MoreVery nice art museum - highly recommended
Really awesome exhibit of Yayoi Kusamas work, it blew me away more than once. You must see it!
MoreThe holy land of Yayoi Kusama. If you are kusama lover, must be here. There are stunning collection of her.
MoreFantastic museumThe prices were not so expensive compared to Tokyo. The staffs were also nice and accommodating. I bought tickets online buy buying on site was fine. It wasnt too crowded
MoreIf you visit this small museum the most important is the part dedicated to Yayoi Kusama the city of this great artist
MoreAdmission for only 400yen and seems they have the permanent exhibit of Yayoi Kusama. I felt this was a good value for money if you like modern art
MoreA museum that mainly focuses on the art of artists from Matsumoto. They currently have a special exhibition on of the works of Yayoi Kusama. The exhibition is spread over 2 floors and consists of woodblock prints on the 2nd floor and large scale art installations on the 3rd floor. And of course there is the large flower sculptures outside. You can also access the courtyard and cafe without buying a ticket.
MoreMuseum located in birthplace of Yayoi Kusama. Its a small place, but loved their collection. Felt like I could have more intimate encounter with the art pieces.
MoreWhen I visited this location, they were doing the Yayoi Kusama exhibit on the 3rd floor. The exhibits were all exceptional. Sadly there is no photography allowed except for one spot with the big pumpkin. The meuseum was a bit different than others in terms of what they display.P.sIf you come from another country, and you are a student, make sure to bring something to prove your age (since students can get in for cheaper. (Passport works))
MoreGood place! It made me feel peaceful. (July, 2022)
Highly recommend. They had a Yayoi Kusama exhibit when I came.
Awesome collection! I didn’t see the special exhibit, so it was super cheap to get in. 410¥ for adults and the Yayoi Kusama collection is included in that! I loved all of the art postcards I got at the gift store too. Great place to spend a rainy day (or a sunny one)
MoreGreat museum. Very interesting part dedicated to Kusama san. But the other artists are interesting too.It also makes sense the the photos are prohibited, otherwise it would a spoiler ;)
MoreA small quiet art museum currently featuring Yayoi Kusamas exhibition, Tamura Kazuos landscape paintings, Kamijo Shinzans calligraphy. The calligraphy is very impressive but requires Japanese to contextualize the meanings.
MoreThe current exposition «Mucha to Manga» is a must see !
This was kind of a last minute decision to make. The location for the museum is great because its way from the center of downtown AND offers free parking till 9pm or whenever the restaurant staff leaves. The museum has some great art albeit most are repetitive patterns, but nonetheless enjoyable. The staff at the museum lacks common sense. No picture are allowed according to their rules however the staff wouldnt let me reply to an email regarding an emergency issue at work. I tried to reason with them and they can watch me while I use my phone to email, but they just kept refusing and told me to put my phone on my pocket. Common sense and self thinking wont be found by the staff here. Be warned.
MoreExtremely lucky to see the retrospective of Yayoi Kusama at the modern art museum in Matsumoto where she was born. This small city has lots to offer, from art to castle, cosy coffee shops. Stop there if you can !
MoreMatsumoto city, birthplace of artist Yayoi Kusama, naturally houses a vast collection of her work. It is on permanent display on the first floor, as well as on the buildings facade and exterior. The other exhibits are also not to be overlooked though. Ranging from calligraphy masters to free amateur shows, there is always a lot to see here. The staff is friendly and speaks basic English.
MoreInteresting local exhibits and Yayoi Kusama’s intense artworks.
You can see some amazing artwork from yayoi Kusama for only ¥410! Definitely worth a stop. The building and sculptures out front are cute as well. There’s a cafe and a shop and other rotating exhibitions.
MoreThe Matsumoto City Art Museum is a must visit place in Matsumoto, this also the most interesting attraction. The permanent collection from Avant-Garde “Yayoi Kusama”, is absolutely amazing and stunning. There are lot of artworks from Kusama, and some of installation art. The Pumpkin also located inside the museum. From the fan of her works is a reason to visit Matsumoto rather than the castle and other attraction. Mainly the museum proudly present the art collection from Kusama but there are some of other famous artist from Matsumoto. Overall the museum is the second attraction to visit after the Castle.
MoreTheyve got a good collection of Yayoi Kusama artworks. She was from Matsumoto!
Must visit for fans of Yayoi Kusama. Free parking and 450 yen entrance fee makes it extra special.
MoreJust went to see the Kusama Yayoi exhibit, which is good. Did not see any of the rotating or special exhibits. This a nice and fairly small museum. It is a 10-15 min walk from the Matsumoto train or bus station (most East and a bit southand the Kusama exhibit takes about 1 hour.
MoreThis was a very nice museum. I loved the Japanese artwork and the calligraphy exhibits. The other artwork, both professional and amateur, was great to see. I was impressed with the museum. The cost was very reasonable. For a basic ticket it is 410 yen but for the advanced ticket to see the limited artwork was 1000 yen for everything.
MoreDelightful museum, top floor is all Yayoi Kusama artwork. The exhibits are stunning, though then whole museum is not very big. You can probably wander through slowly in less than an hour.Admission is pretty cheap but no photos inside.
More400/200 adult/student yen for standard ticket. 1000/600 for standard plus temporary exhibition. 30-45 mins to browse through the normal exhibits. Interesting pieces and ideas.
MoreGreat visit for Kusama fans!Their’s more than just the usual pumpkins, a lot of really nice installations.Entry in also quite cheap and the parking is free.
MoreSmall museum but was great to see the Yayoi-Kusama exhibition.
Thought the Kusama exhibition a little small. Underwhelming even. That said, the two major Kusama exhibits were, as you would expect, very good.Too quiet to be fun. Far too hushed. It was still worth the visit.
MoreVery nice , place however close at 5 pm and no pictures in the exhibition. Over all good, do get some post cards from the gift shop the are very nice alzo.
MoreLimited permanent artworks of Yayoi Kusama are on display after the 2018 themed exhibition. This could be a bit disappointing
MoreLoooove everything Yayoi Kusamas art in the entrance.
Came here for Yayoi Kusama - her permanent exhibit was short but sweet, very beautiful. Some other amazing exhibits of Japanese calligraphy masters and painters. No photos allowed in exhibits though.
MoreNice experiece per total, but Yayoi Kusamas artworks in the permanent exhibition are incredible! Definitely worths visiting the museum.
MoreContemporary art museum - the exposition about Yayoi Kusama was nice, but I like the exposition of Tamura Kazuo the most.
MoreVisited the Matsumoto Museum of Art. Works of Yayoi Kusama and other Matsumoto artists are there. Those that like Japanese calligraphy should come visit as well. Greeted by a psychedelic fun pieces of Yayoi, even the vending machines became art pieces.
Morebeautiful place. exhibits were interesting and has English translation.
Beautiful city, beautiful art. Try to converse with the locals as much as you can. One of the artists was coincidentally present and even handed us a piece of art straight from the display to further examine.Yayoi Kusamas section is my favorite. There is a lot of calligraphy that for the most part escapes my appreciation as a foreigner.Worth a visit if you are already going to Matsumoto.
MoreWhat a total pleasant surprise! My friends and I came to Matsumoto as an impromptu visit and found/found out about Ms Yayoi Kusama’s connection here! It was just the right magical place I needed to be for my trip. Thank you for featuring a beautiful artist for not only her work but her authenticity and story - truly an inspiration!
MoreThe permanent exhibition was pretty interesting. I especially enjoyed the collection of woodblock prints, which mainly includes prints of Enoshima Island and Mt Fuji. As a student I paid only 200¥, which is a good deal. But I dont think its worth paying more than 500¥ to pass an hour or so in the museum.
MoreGreat exhibitions by yayoi kusama, definitely worth going if you havent seen it!
ticket 1200 yen.you can enjoy all about yayoi kusama master piece.its all about polkadot, polkadot and polkadot 😁
MoreHere is Yayoi Kusamas home town so this art museum has many exclusive arts and you can know her life story related to her arts.
MoreA lovely experience of Yayoi’s world and work. Wonderful place to visit.
Seeing Yayoi Kusamas works was an amazing experience. So glad I had the chance. The museum is laid out nicely to make sure you see her exhibit, but be careful you dont miss the permanent exhibitions on the other side of the bridge!
MoreWe visited the museum during the yayoi kusama exhibition and it was just great! The collection was good and it was very fun. At the museum there is also a shop for souvenir and if you ask at the information desk they will let you rent bicycles for free.
MoreThe exterior is really cool. Didnt have much time to spend inside. But would definitely recommend a visit. Also has a cute gift shop.
MoreI really loved this museum! The exibitions were all amazing, but i think they should use more the spaces outside the galleries. But it was a great experience though. Sadly its forbidden to take pictures inside the galleries.
