Middle Eastern grilled meats, vegetables & naan bread served at a marketplace walk-up spot.
Matina in Bristol
Description
Privilege
Best food in Bristol, but try to avoid the guy wearing the cap from serving you as his portions are always tiny compared to the rest!
MoreAbsolutely incredible food in the heart of Bristol. Highly recommend a cous cous box!
MoreStunning food, all made fresh in front of you and quick enough considering the number of orders. Deserving of their reputation.
MoreThe worst eating experience I have ever lived! I am a real foodie and travel to Bristol often for the vast offerings of great food. Firstly, I was made to feel embarrassed about not knowing that the unlabelled sauces on offer were. Following this, I managed a few bites worth of food before my body refused to consume anymore, forcing what I had eaten to be regurgitated and thrown-up! I managed to find myself a bottle of water and some napkins to clean myself up and went elsewhere for lunch that both tasted nice and settled nicely!
MoreReally yummy wraps. Very friendly people at the shop.
I have to say that the hype is justified as are the long queues. The portion sizes are epic, so yes you could share one kebab or bowl of tastiness between two, but why would you as its all so delicious. All of the veg and fresh sauces are spot on and the large naan wraps melt in the mouth...*one extra piece of advice it tends to be cash only*
MoreI visit Bristol frequently for the past 4 years. I visit Matina frequently for the past 4 years :The guys are the best and they are always treating you like you are their best customer!
MoreI have absolutely no complaints with this place!!! The food is incredible and easily one of the best places to get lunch in Bristol! Great portion sizes and some of the friendliest staff about
MoreI have always seen a queue outside Matina for years, and finally I know why. Great tasting wraps, decent price, and a team that genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. Slight wait on my partners Veggie order but that was nothing to be worried about. Will definitely be going back.
MoreFabulous wraps, one lamb and one grilled chicken was todays order. Spicy, lots of grated veg and a spicy sauce. The wrap itself was soft and delicious, soaking up any excess juice. Make sure youre hungry before you order. Staff friendly and efficient, despite a never ending queue, testimony to its deserved popularity.
MoreThe bread is so soft and fluffy. Made in a proper kiln. Spices are delicious and flavorful. The meat is grilled to perfection. veg option is excellent. What more can you want!
MoreExcellent Kurdish wraps. I had the chicken and lamb with everything, they use some delicious chili pastes and salads. Great value.
MoreThe best wraps in town. Food always fresh and delicious 🤩
Great food - worth it for the bread alone. This does get busy at lunchtime so get there 10 mins before
MoreFresh ingredients, friendly customer service and colorful salads. This spot is great ! Make sure to bring cash (no cards accepted). High quality food at an affordable price.
MoreWe were recommended this Bristol institution by multiple friends. Did not disappoint. We shared a mixed chicken and lamb with everything on it. Recommend 👌
MoreEverything in Matina tastes fantastic and the price is reasonable for their delicious food. Strongly recommend to everybody who loves to try different food.
MoreThis place is truly amazing. Been eating here for years. Good quality food, lovely tastes with the fresh veg/salads and homemade sauces. Dailey reasonable prices £5-£6 for a meat or veg wrap which will fill that gap and mo so
MoreHonestly, if you haven’t been here please go. Don’t let the long line scare you off. It goes really quickly. The fresh naan is worth waiting for. Lovely staff. Excellent prices.
MoreAmazing middle- Eastern wraps and salad boxes!Huge portions, lovely fresh ingredients and friendly service! For more recommendations check out @Bristolfooddude in insta!
MoreAn absolute must when visiting Bristol. Go for the lamb and chicken combo and you wont regret it ! Delicious freshly baked wrap filled with grilled meat and amazing salads easiest 5/5 of my life :)
More“To reach something good it is very useful to have gone astray, and thus acquire experience” this philosiphical quote by Saint Teresa of Avila is a bon mot of wisdom that has never been used as a commentary of finding the perfect kebab. Until now.Years of being drunkenly slumped gazing at the slowly spinning stick, encased in what looks like a dark beige plaster of paris, renders a man sensesless, brow beaten by the dry leathery meat, sloppily dressed with limp leaves and eye watering chilli sauce. All encased in a hardback book of miserable pitta. You have “gone astray” in the words of Saint Terry. So, the “reaching something good” will happen. For me and my twelve friends this moment arrived yesterday at Matina in St Nicholas food market in Bristol.I can’t be certain, but I believe that St Nicholas and St Teresa were Saint buddies.Matina serves kebabs. Not just any old Kebabs. Matina’s are chock full of chargrilled benevolent, chicken or lamb, succulent and tasty. Teamed with beautiful, fresh red cabbage, heavenly homemade hummus and three day cooked sweet chilli sauce. They are delivered to your hungry mitts in a naan bread freshly cooked before your tear filled with gratitude eyes. Pillowy soft and beautiful. If you are ever in Bristol you must go there. In fact, make a special pilgrimage to eat at this gourmet booth of joy. My friend Carl is a very grumpy man. Difficult to please in all honesty. He cried salt tears of joy upon taking his first bit of a chicken and lamb mixed kebab. High praise indeed.
MoreBeen going to Matina for years whenever I’m in Bristol, one of the best chicken wraps you’ll ever eat!
MoreBest street food in Bristol. If you look for something very tasty on the go, if you are close, this is the best option. Try the cous cous boxes for a more easy eating meal, or take the flatbread wrap and head out quickly. Best food around.
MoreAmazing food all fresh. Great salad.best kebab in Bristol fact.
Just amazing. Had Lamb wrap which was cooked fresh. Salad very good. service is reasonably fast considering how very busy this place gets at lunchtime. The queue was big but moved fast.Go after 3 as seems less busy I noticed after lunchtime.
MoreAmazing!!!!! You must try this place. So tasty 😋
Excellent. Ordered a Lamb Wrap, and boy was it tasty. Also for just over £6 a huge size too!Gets busy at lunch, so be prepared to queue, and also was Cash Only on my visit.Staff were very friendly and happy to help. Will return again!!
MoreThe flavours were average! And the price is cheap for what you get. However I was very disappointed by the service and the customer service. I don’t usually write reviews but I felt like I needed to for this place. I left the place crying as I felt like the man who had served me the wrap was hugely patronising and genuinely made me feel like I was stupid. I was only not clear at all how the queuing system worked and the lady who served me never explained to me that I then had to queue for the wrap on the next booth. It’s basically just a fancy kebab with a not very good customer service.
MoreFriendly staff. Delicious fresh bread with well spiced lamb and chicken. Could be a bit spicier otherwise PERFECT! I was too hungry so I didnt have a chance to take a photo. ILL BE BACK!
MoreAll is really great. The food is very tasty, the service is also very nice and professional. In my life I did not eat a better "wrap". This naan bread is something wonderful. I will certainly be there again when I am back in Bristol.
MoreFantastic great food. Quality Middle Eastern wraps. I brought lunch for a group of ten and we all had our lunches in 5 minutes. Everyone loved it and would favour coming back here to eat! Friendly staff.
MoreThe food here is incredible. Everything on the menu is excellent. Fresh food really simple done extremely well. The ques at times will stretch back to the other end of the market at lunch. Its worth waiting for and excellent value for money. Cant recommend this place enough!
MoreThis is a must go to place if you enjoy Mediterranean foods. The naan 🫓 bread is fresh ; staff is friendly. I purchased a combo lamb and chicken; I discovered the chicken as my favorite and wished there was more in it. I also had the feta salad. OMG it was delicious. This will be a must go to spot when ever I visit Bristol and it’s my son’s fav. Just a heads up- expect to wait in line which is a good thing.
MoreThis place always has the longest queue in the market. The reason is simple, the food is totally awesome! Got my lunch there AT LEAST once a week when I worked in Bristol. Now, I make excuses to go to Bristol just so I can go to Matina again!. :-)Huge wraps, cooked in a tandoor in front your eyes and filled seconds later. Never ever been a salad fan, however, I make up for it here - the flavours and dressings are delish! Often, I had chicken, with lamb as an extra - this would fill all but the most gluttonous of you Im sure?! - after that I usually didnt need to eat much, if anything, for dinner in the evening.Staff are friendly and super hard working.
MoreI love the food here. The chicken is so well marinated and delicious and the lamb is too with a wee kick of spice. The bread is really soft and yummy and the salads and sauces are fantastic. The only reason Ive removed a star is because last time I had one there was soooo much parsley I had to open it and remove it. Was bonkers and made it inedible until the parsley was out
MoreDelicious wraps with veggie and vegan options. Infamous in Bristol so be warned- always a queue! But queue moves quickly and well worth the wait. Good sized portions and good value.
MoreSo interested in trying this sandwich, everyone in the park was eaten from this restaurant, very huge and yummy 🤤
MoreWalked past this place a few times and always been a massive queue, not really my kind of food so wondered what the fuss was about. Ended up going on a quiet day and wow. Never had a wrap like it. I get why there is always a queue of 20 people
MoreGreat food and quick too, but there can be a queue at peak times. Amazing chicken naan wrap. The chicken was super juicy!
MoreExcellent food, one of the best places Ive tried in the uk outside of London.Beautiful as well as tasty.
MoreGrabbed a quick bite to eat from Matina before cycling back home. Chargrilled chicken naan wrap was delicious, the chicken was super juicy and flavoursome.
MoreUsed to go to this place when I was in school, returned years later to find out its as good as ever! Amazing chargrilled lamb and chicken in the mixed wrap, fresh from the coals. Great variety of salad and homemade sauces to put on top. Great value, even better quality food. There can be a bit of a queue at lunch but thats for a very good reason! Cant recommend this place enough.
MoreAmazing Kebab we had lamb and chicken mixed, the bread is cooked in front of you and a must is the chilli jam
MoreThe Bristolians were not wrong about this place. Swift service within a minute from payment, capsaicin-free option available, and they’d even accept payment by card. And for the wrap itself - about as long as my forearm, and there was chicken even down to the last bite. The bread has the right thickness, salads were fresh and the blend of sauces was balanced - good thing that the paper wrap holds the sauces in. Undoubtedly worth the price.
MoreFriendly, quick, convient, hygienic + damn tasty. Spent £5.60 on a mix lamb and chicken wrap with all the toppings and was sorted for the rest of the afternoon, big up my middle eastern friends!
MoreProbably the best Kebab takeaway in Bristol! Everything is cooked freshly in front of you and the chicken and lamb is marinated to perfection. The bread is also freshly prepared and cooked in front of you. I usually go for the box meal with rice, excellent! All the sauces are fresh and the chilli jam is the best one! Always a big que from 12 onwards, but well worth the wait.
Moreonly supply food after 11a.m. wrap is very delicious, I ordered the mix and thought lamb is better than chicken. pickled chilli is the key part of salads,it improves the flavor and not hot at all.
MoreIn St. Nicholas Market, Matina always has a long queue. For a fiver, you can get freshly grilled lamb, chicken or halloumi and salad in a large, home made, freshly cooked naan bread wrap.Staff are friendly and the food quality is excellent, definitely worth the price. They accept cash, card and contactless
