Massi - Italian restaurant in Melbourne, Australia
Great service, good presntation, classy food
Insta: melbfoodie_markYT: MelbFoodieMark** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!-A beautifully Italian restaurant hidden on Little Collins Street - finally got a chance to make a reservation at Massi using theFork 50% deal. We visited on a weeknight but the restaurant still managed to be completely full by 7PM. Space isnt too big but they kept it classy and sophisticated. Not to mention, service was friendly and prompt. Our waitress recommended "Pappradelle" and Chefs Special which was "Braised Goat + Salad"; so we decided to get both with some entrees - oysters, arancini, and croquettes.Oysters tasted fresh with lemony garlicy dressing on top - a great way to start your evening. Arancini was crispy, filled with mushroom, potatoes, and rice - just classic & delicious. Cod croquette was also tasty but I was somewhat disappointed by the presentation - arancini came in an egg carton-looking plate. (Looking at others reviews, they were often served on a plate so thats something they should consider doing again). Pappradelle (forgot to take a photo!and Chefs Special, on the other hand, were great. Veal and tomato ragu tasted amazing together! It was a little bit salty but with Pappradelle pasta, it just balanced out beautifully. Braised goat definitely tasted different - not exactly a familiar taste (slightly bland). My guess is that they braised it using red wine to retain the taste of goat while giving it a grapey kick. Slightly disappointing since I expected something more flavourful but it wasnt that bad. I was excited to visit Massi but they definitely couldve done better that night. However, I still think its one of the better Italian restaurants in Melbourne! Will come back to try their other dishes next time
Great food and good deco inside, but poor service. Not really welcoming nor good customer service.
Upon arrival, the waitress greeted us warmly and confidently got us our Aperol spritz promptly. The food was delicious as everyone agreed. From the fish to the meat, it was all spiced just right. Now dessert was to die for. The cannoli was yummy but the donut was YUM! Both desserts were presented decoratively beautiful. Instagrammers delight. Highly recommend and yes it can be pricey but not over the top.
Starters were amazing and slightly overshadowed the mains. The brisket could have been cooked longer as it wasnt falling apart. Butter was served cold.Highlight was the staff who were great... And funny! The croquettes and the octopus were also fantastic.
Just came upon this gem of a place by accident... heading to the Irish pub Irish times ... Seen the fabulous table setting .. went to the Irish times . Then booked it and amazing is the word from service to food amazing 11 out if 10 ....
1 - place doesnt feel italian even a bit2 - size of the food is less than a nucleus of hydrogen atom. One would need a Hubble telescope to notice that there is a food on the plate.3 - prices are bigger that one astronomical unit in $ units
Great food. One of the best meals I have had. Sat savouring every mouthful.
Outstanding food. Outstanding wine. Outstanding service. Doesnt get much better for Italian dining. Amazing risotto.
Excellent food, amazing staff. Chefs selection is a great deal. Lived it. Well be back 👍
Great little Italian restaurant thats warm and inviting. Was pretty easy to get a booking for a Friday as well. Food was plenty tasty and no complaints about the service either. Thanks Massi!
Great little place serving interesting Italian food and great drinks. Service is pleasant and professional. Very ambient with minimum noise levels. Not cheap but very enjoyable.
Great Italian food. Intimate tables, good for date night. Great selection of Italian beers and wine. And great food!
Totally amazing experience. One of the best Italian restaurants with wide variety of vegetarian options. Made my first anniversary totally memorable. We ordered everything from beginning tills end and in dish was amazing and different. Last but not the least super excellent service. Must go restaurant.
Average. Was hoping something more unique here.
Food and service was amazing, we will be back
Great little Sicilian restaurant with a beautiful menu and nice intimate atmosphere. My wife and I had a lovely dinner here for our anniversary. We started with the oysters and burratta mozarella which were both a treat. We chose pasta mains and went with the agnolotti with chestnuts, pumpkin, sage and truffles and the squid ink spaghetti. Both were outstanding dishes and went well with our bottle of sangiovese. The only disappointment was our dessert. It just wasnt up to the same level as the starters and mains. But overall excellent experience and I will definitely eat here again!
Excellent service excellent food and beautiful wines
A thoroughly enjoyable dinner, even if it was a special event night. The meals were all about sustainability and zero waste and the team in the kitchen pulled it off perfectly. Great wines to match also. Great job.
Wonderful experience with Sarah Wilson. I can’t wait to return to try the regular menu. Lovely service and gorgeous cosy restaurant. See you again soon Massi!
Great night out! Service amazing and food delicious! The cheese plate was the best we had seen in a long time & the donuts fantastic!
Absolutely delightful. We had family nona tasting plate. Not once was the salt and pepper shaker required. Every dish was cooked and served to perfection. Thankyou for a delicious dinner. All the best
Gorgeous intimate venue, great attentive staff and delicious food. Really enjoyed our dinner here. I put a note in our booking for a candle to be added to the dessert of my partner for his birthday and it was done without me having to mention it on the night.
The home-made pasta and gnocchi were excellent, very welcoming and lovely staffs ! A perfect restaurant for date nights with your loved ones ♡ Well-done Massi !
Loved it, delicious Italian meals and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had calamari, gnocchi, and squid ink spaghetti and cos parmesan salad - all delicious!
Wonderful food, great staff, and warm atmosphere. I loved the attentiveness of the staff and the decor of the restaurant. I ordered the parpadelle and it was delicious! I felt bad because I couldnt finish it. They also have a great selection of drinks, I highly recommend finishing the meal with the amaro montegro (a liquer)- very yummy!
Loved the swordfish! Very cool little restaurant. Will return again.
Massi never disappoints from the fabulous food every time to the friendly staff that make you feel like a regular from the first visit..
The food was lovely, we had the meatballs and arracini for entree, marinara spaghettini for main. Its not very spacious and it tends to get quite noisy when its full house
Cosy and trendy. Popped in for a drink on an evening mid-week and was able to sit straight away. Great vibe and friendly bar staff.
Great range of gluten free options for an Italian restaurant. The service is flawless and the ambiance is very romantic!
Ordered arancini, the zucchini flower and the duck breast. The arancini was my favourite. The duck breast was pink with crispy skin. Service was attentive. Overall a good experience.
Really enjoyed it! Food was fantastic with the Nonnas menu varied and filling with each dish on point. Waitresses are cute and friendly. Food is served quickly. Highly recommended. Ravioli and lamb cutlets were the highlight: the lamb cutlets were unique and tasty.
Great service, drinks, and dessert... But for the price ($212 for 3 peopleI would not expect every single dish to be salted all the way to death! Can not recommend, even with an entertainment book discount, due to this.Note: I did mention this to the wait staff, and some food was left over as a testament to the salt, but there was no response/apology from the kitchen (not expecting a discount, but surely the head chef should care about such feedback)!
A colleague came to Melbourne from Sydney and I also wanted to take this opportunity to catchup with 2 of my ex-bosses, so its time to search for nice restaurant where we can eat and chat peacefully without having to shot at each other. 😅I found this restaurant online and wasnt sure what to expect. None of us had eaten here before. Its not a big restaurant but its very cosy. Staffs are very friendly. We ordered The Half Shell Scallop for entre and for main we ordered Squid Ink Spaghetti, Lamb Cutler and BBQ Swordfish. For #dessert, we ordered tiramisu, massi donuts and affogato.OMG, Im glad I found this place. All the dishes are delicious. The stand out dishes for me have to be tiramisu and the donuts. 😍This restaurant is really a 10/10 for me. Love love it.
What a fantastic experience! Amazing food, cute decor and really authentic vibe. I had such an enjoyable evening with a small group of friends, the service was by far the best Ive had in Melbourne. Prices are affordable and food was way beyond expectations! Such a treat. Thanks for a great experience.
Quaint. Simple. Fresh. Just perfect.
The best restaurant in CBD Melbourne. Great Italian food. Super Staff. Good Vibes. I just love it!!! Grazie guys. Great job!!!!
Food and service were hearty, heater working overtime, really homely night out.
Excellent Italian restaurant. Cheerful, efficient, helpful waiters. Tasty, innovative and traditional food. A little noisy at times.
This used to be our favourite place. Tonight the $88 set menu for Valentines Day was one of the worst meals ever. Entrees were awful and the mains sent back, didn’t stay for dessert, so disappointed. The only redeeming quality was the lovely Jade who tried her best to make up for our bad experience on what was supposed to be a special night.
Went there with high expectations, came out dissapointed. We asked about the Market fish, they said it was tuna.... Had the steak and a raviolli it was decent. Did not meet our expectations at all.
We have been here for several times and they were always great. Today, my friends and I went to the restaurant again and ordered the beef fillets and chicken.Shockingly, we were served charcoal beef and chicken, when I said charcoal they were really disgusting and literally with burnt smell. We raised up the issue to one of the waitresses it was escalated to another woman which I believed could be the manager. We were shocked being explained that the beef was meant to be cooked like this even if we were to get the new ones. JOKE, JOKE, JOKE. Absolutely retarded. We came here several times for the beef and we know how good their beef used to be. Instead of replacing the order for us, she teased us for saying it is what it is. Other dishes were equally bad but not as WORST as the “charcoal” beef and “charcoal” chicken with burnt smell that were served to us.We left the restaurant with absolute disappointment. We will never returned to this restaurant anymore.Other people please take note. If you ever want to try dining in the restaurant, be prepared being served burnt food and impolite services. One star is granted as they used to be good. Now, MAssi is the worst restaurant I ever tried in my life.
Best steaks and espresso martini in the strip..Cheese platter great.Bar service exceptional
Ravioli was slightly undercooked. But they quickly replaced it. Fantastic service. Great Italian food.
Shocking service and rude staff, I would not recommend for any group to go there. One of the staffs felt free to kick us out without proper explanation(a group of 8 peopleover a perceived slight (one of us, out of a group of 8 dared asking about vegetarian options availableafter throwing a huge and embarrassing tantrum (he called our friend a rude drunk). Our entire group left pretty shell shocked by the experience at Massi.
Try the spagettini. Great desserts. Friendly staff and chef :)
Food was so delicious and the service was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended you try this restaurant.
A beautiful find, after looking for somewhere that accepted the Good Food gift card. It can get quite noisy when full, but it is a very small venue and is lovely for a date night or with a bigger group. The service was very friendly and helpful, with a lot of knowledge about their food. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted sensational. Quality food at the right price. Try it out and you wont be disappointed.
One of the better Italian restaurants in the CBD.
