Great food. Service was perfect

This place was just ok. Service was slow to start but ended well enough. The rolls were ok, the udon was mediocre. For the price, I wouldnt recommend it.

Server was great, sushi was very mediocre. Way too much rice, rice was weirdly cooked, no flavor to the 3 rolls I tried. Fire roll was okay. House soup tasted very fishy.

I’ve never had a Philadelphia roll with cooked salmon before nor have I seen this elsewhere. When you send it back, they argue with you to try and justify it.And then when you order sashimi, you get nigiri. When you order whole scallop sashimi, you get chopped scallop nigiri. The cooks just do what they want and what you order seems to not matter.I tried this place out twice just to have the same bad experience. Never again.

I have always loved masa but after today’s experience my whole view of this location has gone down hill.10-20: my son and I came in to have lunch and I saw the sign that said their card machine was down until 3:45. No problem that was only 20 minutes and I wasn’t in a rush. I asked the server if she would check to make sure it will come back on before we ordered (I had some cash but not to cover tip and all). I over heard I guess the manager or the gentleman get angry that we were there and we should have never been sat. I left money for my drink as well as my sons- but I won’t be coming back to this location. If it was an issue- come tell me that’s why I waited before ordering.. not yell at the server and talk bad about us.

We always enjoy our neighborhood sushi bar. The ton katsu pork belly ramen is one of our favorites along with edamame for a healthy appetizer and one or two or their specialty egg rolks.

Love the sushi here! You must try the Ramen too!!

Service was not badBut sushi lol, it is a joke. We were wrong we went to white sushi restaurant. Tasteless, and not good quality sushi at all. Anyways, if you are non Asian you might like it.

Great sushi place for all your palettes and good atmosphere. Miso soup is one of my simple favorites. I do have one complaint: the tables near the sunken area are too dark (we day here). There is no light under the tables, we have to rely on the ambient light (which is still very dim). Add some spot lights under them to take care of this issue or at least aim some of the adjacent lights to point towards them.

We will not returning here!We were waiting at the table for a good 20 mins. No one has come by to serve us. We waived at at least 5 servers, but were ignored.When we told the host, he just said I’m sorry 🤬The food is good but staff and management is poor!

At first, I wasnt going to leave this review. I told the waiter my grievances in the most polite and constructive way possible. Then I got home and am now sick as a dog.Guess where I am while typing this?1st time dining here as I just moved to the area and this was our low key, celebration dinner. We were sat at a table that still had the previous guests used chopsticks sitting there. The table was sticky to the touch. We ended up moving to another table. Still sticky. Told the waiter and he said that it was from the cleaner that they used. Maybe change cleaners then?I ordered water with lots of lemons and asked for SweetnLow. Water came, no sweetnlow. Asked again. He finally brought it to me but nothing to stir it with.Ordered appetizers.Edemame and pork dumplings. No plates. When we requested the plates, he just brought a stack and set them down at the end of the table. Almost every one of them was visibly spotty and all of them had a chip in them in one spot or another.Then I asked if anything had dairy as I am REALLY lactose intolerant. He made a recommendation of the orange dragon roll. I went with that and a spider roll.Food arrives, pretty much one person at a time. Then I eat the spider roll and it tasted a bit "fishy" (pun intended).Well, you guessed it, now I have food poisoning. Im currently the king on my throne and I paid almost $100 for the privilege.I will not be back Masa Sushi. Your restaurant sucks. Your food sucks. Your service sucks.Save your money people. There are easier ways to lose weight than violent vomiting and explosive diarrhea but if you need a crash diet, order the spider roll at Masa Sushi! Im sure it will deliver that gaunt look of a prison camp victim with dysentery in no time!I AM SO SICK!I have so much work to do tomorrow.This sucks!

Ive been going to Masa for years and I love the sushi! Its suprisingly easy to stick to a budget despite them having, well, sushi prices, if you know to try. The staff are always quick to help and check in often to see if they can help you with anything. They have really good deals on Tuesday evenings, to the point my parents go there for a date nearly every week. Wonderful, low key fancy atmosphere. Only complaint I could possibly have is they have a minimum 7 dollar per person policy, and my boyfriend doesnt like sushi. He only takes me there because he knows I like it, and ends up ordering chicken nuggets. Its nice they offer alternatives for those not in to fish, but the flavor was sub par considering every other item on their menu. I would recommend the Philidelphia hand roll, they warm up the salmon for this particular order and I personally find the flavors divine.Update: I originally wrote this review 3 years ago, about 2018. I still visit relatively often and enjoy going, but Ive had two particularly bad experiences in the last year, one of which involved food poisoning. It is not frequent, and I believe that was the only time it ever happened and has not happened since, but I had to remove a star at least temporarily on behalf of my poor mother with a sensitive stomach. I will return my review to 4 stars if I dont have anything similar occur for half a year to a year

I love this place!! Even though it’s expensive, I tried to ask my family if we can when ever they ask where we should go to eat, I always say Masa. I never like sushi, but after eating at Masa and getting there Crunchy, I want Sushi every day now. There dumplings are amazing to. Me and my sister alwasy fight over the dumplings 😁

Servers was nice but the quality of the fish wasn’t great and the sushi’s wasn’t really cold so I didn’t finish it

Very horrible experience. Warm sashimi that was old and dry 🤢🤮. We left in 15 minutes leaving most of the food. We were holding it the whole way home and trying to kill the aftertaste with a fountain drink. Serving seafood in this condition is not safe at least. Mr. or Mrs. owner, you just cannot feed people with this.

Dont order the ramen.Was in the neighborhood and in the mood for some ramen. There werent many options in this area. Masa seems to have decent reviews and one of the reviewers even said the ramen is to die for.Took them 20 minutes to make the ramen. Noodles were under cooked. Soup is very thick almost like custard. Pork belly was mostly fat. Corn was even cold. The worst part is it is extremely salty. On a scale of 1-10 for saltiness, this is a solid 100.Cant comment on the other items on the menu. But trust me, dont get the ramen!

Good sushi and service. Kid friendly as well with edamame on the house. The chicken fried rice is a go to when our kids want "shushi" 😁🍣🥟

I just ordered here for the first time and OMG I loved it!!! their sushi and the beef teriyaki is delicious, the portions are wonderful. Would 100% recommend

I’ve been coming here for many years. What has happened to the shaggy dog? It tastes terrible now and has for a while. That has been my go to thing to get for many years and it has definitely changed. It smells like fish and tastes terrible. I literally couldn’t eat but maybe a couple of pieces last night. I hope it goes back to the way it was because it used to be so good.

Sushi was fresh. Crab puffs were the bomb. Shrimp tempura was pretty good. Combo fried rice had big chunks of meat and wasn’t greasy. I highly recommend.

Wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious. We had the Gyoza, Crab Puffs, Agedashi Tofu, Crunch Roll, Tiger Eye Roll, Nigiri, and Houston Roll! Ask about the secret menu too.

Came for dinner. Had oh ya beef, gyoza for appetizer. Had three different types of hand rolls, fried rice, chicken with noodles and teriyaki chicken. The two appetizers were good4/5. All the other food was a 1. The rolls were not rolled well and the quality of the ingredients were sub par. The other foods were all over salted. I do not recommend this place and will not be back. It is sad, looks like they use to be good based on previous reviews.

Food is fairly descent but staff need to learn to clean. Tables are sticky , restraunt smells musty , plates for sushi snd soy came out with the previous meals rice and bits still attached, and food is on floors around tables ( carpet = yuk )Everything has gone down hill. Sad because for so long it was the premier sushi spot in friendswood area. Staff are not experienced and service is slow.

Never had before a tonkotsu ramen with rope meat..

I really did not enjoy it here so much. I was there for early lunch and extremely expensive ($30 for my half of the billand we were drinking water. Their roll selection was so incredibly limited, I cant eat raw sushi anymore and was depending on a few options for cooked rolls but there were only 3, I believe, possibly 4 and some still had raw ingredients in them. Our server was great, very helpful, he was working a double that day.. I cant remember his name, but it was something like Connor? Dark, longer hair, he was great. Sushi is my favorite and I remember loving this place years ago, breaks my heart that I wont be coming back here again.

First time trying Masa Sushi and the tonkotsu ramen had a good flavor but the noodles were a little doughy. What I really enjoyed was the fire sushi roll, it was delicious and I highly recommend it. The restaurant was clean and the staff are friendly.Will definitely come again to try something else.

Delicious tempura, sushi, and hibachi plates! My family and I ate there and it was really nice! Service is iffy, but aside from that it was a very great experience and we enjoyed our food. I recommend trying this place. We plan to return to try other menu items.

My favourite japanese restaurant! The lunch special everyday til 3:30 makes it a nice and affordable place to get a really good lunch! My husband and I come here on a semi-regular basis. We love that you get soup and salad along with your entree and the whole atmosphere is really nice and inviting :would really recommend! Took my father here for Fathers Day and he loved everything! He got udon and said it was super good.

After many years, the Friendswood location is a mirror image of the original Houston (NASA PkWY)location. With great kids food and a Bento Box that will take you on a journey of flavors and textures. Excited to try the newest Dickinson location is right off I-45.

We were really hoping to see some cool hibachi... but they don’t have hibachi tables. Their fried rice was good. But I wasn’t super impressed w much else. Their miso soup wasn’t great... they’re sushi roles were alright. Their service was alright. Not worth the $$.I didn’t like that I had to ask for parts of my meal multiple times bc the server forgot to bring it.I may come back here... but only if we didn’t have better plans.

Got the lunch special bento box with the grilled salmon. The fish was a good size, but sadly very dry. Nothing in the box was particularly remarkable. Id read good things about this place so I was excited to check it out, but Im not too keen to visit again. The staff member that served us was also not very inviting in her demeanor and honestly seemed a little bothered whenever we asked her for something.The ambience is perfect for a date night but perhaps a tad too dark for the daytime. The food, however, not great.

It’s a good place to go. I always take my dad and they have such a big menu. We always end up getting a variety of sushi and have never had anything bad.

I loved it, the rice was not hard, it was probably the best rice Ive ever had, I would like them to add one thing to their menu, the black dragon sushi roll, I had this at a different sushi place, best roll ever, so yeah, if you can add that I will be very happy, and will rate it five star

Made a reservation and when I arrived they gave it away. They seamed incredibly disorganized. And did not care at all about the long line for pickups.Update, the sushi sizes are so big you cannot eat them in one bite making a mess and leaving to a horrible experience. The picture is of a medium to small sized piece. The large pieces needed 3 bites to eat. Unforgivable for a restaurant that the menu is 80% sushi.

Decent quality overall. Sushi meat quality was really fresh. Food combination/seasoning style was mediocre. Not the best place in Houston for sushi, But good for the local area. Ordered beef sashimi, tuna tartare (they add cilantro- Its weirdsuperwhite tuna was great! Rice tots were not good. Chameleon roll was so-so. Tako su was good.

Love going to Masa. Very good sushi at a great price! They have your traditional style sushi, but what makes them stand out is the high quality and unique rolls they offer. For those not into sushi Masa does offer noddle soups, bento boxes, and hibachi dishes.

After enjoying a sister day, my two sisters and I went to Masa Sushi for dinner. It was a little dark inside but it lent itself to a nice quiet ambiance to the restaurant. You have to try the sushi roll with honey drizzle! Im the sister not afraid to eat, and I ordered that roll and a bento box. My sisters were second guessing themselves after seeing my dinner. We all really loved the honey roll and as all sisters do, they kept snagging some stuff from my Bento box. Over all the food, price and atmosphere was the perfect way to end the day that was needed after our long absence from each other. Thank you Masa Sushi for a wonderful dinning experience.

I am new in town and of course with that means that I have to find myself a new sushi joint and came across Masa Sushi. People ask for the chef special.. plenty of food for a bargain price! I was amazed. I will definitely be making Masa Sushi the place to be for me. Keep up the good work folks! 🤗

Came in for the first time today. Brought the family in for Mothers Day dinner around 4pm. This place is dirty! The dishes that our food was served on were dirty. The cups our drinks came in were dirty. There were 8 tables/booths that have not been cleaned during the time we were here. Dirty dishes everywhere. If the dishes are dirty, how clean do you think the kitchen is?Ordered the Chirashi Sushi. Came with imitation crab? No thanks. We ordered Miso soup. It was not ready until after the rest of our meal. The pork was hot, but totally dried out.I heard good things about this place. There are some other good Sushi places nearby. Dont waste your time. They got my money once, but wont get it again.

I went on a Friday night. There was no wait for a party of 7. It is decorated nicely with dim lighting. They have a sushi bar where u can sit and watch them make the sushi dishes. Also, they have a regular bar with all kinds of drinks. The waitress was very informative and always kept our cups full. Very satisfied.

Great Shaggy Dog roll. Not on the menu but everyone orders it. Chicken fried rice is amazing too. When we dont feel like driving to Galveston for skybar this is the ONLY place that will suffice. Fast and friendly service too.

We took a chance on a new place for my birthday, and Im so glad we did. Masa Sushi has a nice ambiance for a suburban restaurant, a casual atmosphere, a great selection of rolls, the service was just right, and we were satisfied all-around. Well still hit up our favorite sushi in the city from time to time, but this is a very solid choice that happens to be five minutes away. Our favorites so far are the Masa Tower (this is a meal unto itself), the Tiger Eye and Rock n Roll rolls are old faves and were great here, and the Volcano roll is something else entirely. So *delicious.* We will be back!
