Martello Hall - Bar in Wete, Tanzania
Went for bottomless brunch, nice venue and decent food. Service was a bit lack lustre and disconnected. Food arrived very slowly with sides arriving before mains. Would probably head back if I was in the area.
Lovely place, lovely staff, a very nice drink made by someone called Libby! Would definitely recommend and will be going again!
Great place but no draught beer on the day we went. The bartender was rude
Went for a bottomless brunch. Food was delightful. Brunch started 20mins late but they accommodated this by adding the time to the end. Would highly recommend! Lovely staff 👌
Went for bottomless brunch, overall very disappointed. Staff were lovely but clearly overworked, booze was great (loved the mix-your-own prosecco ideabut the food was poor quality, especially for the price. We were told one main had run out 1.5 hours after wed ordered, another showed up 30 min late, and we were charged for someone elses pizza. One pasta dish was inedible and pizzas were just okay - but *so* expensive for what they were. To be fair to the manager, she took all the food off the bill after we complained, but I wouldnt visit again. Have been here for dinner a few years back and loved it - maybe they just dont put the same effort into brunch
Highly recommend renting out the space on the first floor - such a nice set up with the balcony and bartenders! Had a great 30th birthday here :)
The pizzas were OK (not worth the price thoughand the service was terrible. The waitresses were chatting and it was difficult to their attention. When we finally got a hold of them, I had to explain 4 times that the drinks we had been served werent what we had ordered. The Manager didnt charge us for the drinks but I could see the barman at the bar trying my drink telling his colleagues it was exactly what we had ordered. Terrible service for an overpriced place.
A lovely bar with great staff and nice seatings!! Asked for passionfruit based mocktail and the bar man made it so nicely!! Although it was Saturday and we did not have a reservation they found us a seat quickly and it was a very quick service to ordering as well. They have a pizza oven which looked amazing! The pizza was ok, but this might be just because we chose a interesting pizza rather than some of the classical pizzas. Lovely second floor terrace as well.
Jamie was fabulous, her expertise in cocktail recipes was mythic. Jamie was like the first pint in a 500km draught as someone who pushed their boundaries to help us
Really nice food and great drinks! Amazing service from Miles! Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic place, never a half empty glass, staff are amazing especially Miles! Travelled all the way from Newcastle for this and it’s well worth it. Will be back again soon!
Great food, great bottomless brunch but incredibleeee service from Miles! We had an amazing afternoon here 🙌🏻
While we were there it was a good enough experience. Food was good, portions were generous. We got the bottomless brunch which was pricey for the quality of prosecco and the 2hr time cap, in my opinion. They had a really cute menu of how to mix your drinks with mixers that were left out on the table. It was VERY hot inside and we have a sneaky suspicious the little glasses of mixers had been left out all morning. Both my friend and I had a funny belly afterwards and we dont think it was the food as we had completely different options. We were served the bill maybe 45 minutes to an hour after being seated, by no means were all the tables full. We were being ushered out quite quickly. We were going to order dessert but were being ushered out so we left it. The servers generally were nice. The music was obnoxiously loud for a brunch venue. Coffee was good. Not sure I would go back again after our bellies feeling so bad (we did not drink much at all).
A mediocre place to go once you’re legless, and have already been somewhere else in hackney when all your inhibitions have gone out the window. If you don’t mind being served drinks by this one woman who is FOREVER miserable, and out to kill your vibe then go for it. Her attitude kills whatever vibe you may be trying to bring/continue in this poorly designed layout with at best a mid shelf bar. What bar doesn’t have Pisco in 2022 or even know what it is? The furniture is way too bulky to navigate and feels like a early 2000 Britney Spears video. A stifled spot with no real place to dance for somewhere that closes at 3am. The toilets are up 5 flights of stairs and there happens to be no cloakroom for such a huge venue. They gained an extra star because they’re one of the only late night spots on mare street but aside from that, Meh!
What an amazing night ! Jo and Esma were so on point! They were polite, courteous and had such amazing vibes! Made our weekend
Esma has given the best pizza Ive ever had. The service here has been great. My waiter, Jax, has been really lovely!
Had my wedding reception here. Adam the events manager was very communicative and made sure everything ran smoothly. The venue was very accomodating, staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly, and everyone had a fantastic time. Food was good, drinks were lovely, and the whole evening was very well executed. Special shout out to James and Jacob, two of our fantastic bartenders, who took good care of us into the early hours.
We went for the bottomless brunch. Myles was amazing!! We had such a good time, the drinks were flowing! We didn’t have to ask for refills at any point
Last night was chaos. the bar staff were woefully inexperienced, we had to ask them to not make the drink I asked for since after ten minutes of waiting the guy didn’t have a clue how to make it. He then messed up my partners drink too before accusing us of not paying. He was visibly drunk. Dreadful service.
We hired the upstairs space for a work party which. It was a great party, thanks to all the staff who looked after us and especially to chef Esma. The food was great, thank you so much for looking after our guests and for personally delivering the gluten free pizza.
We love it here. The main reason we love it is because of my boy Myles. He has made it everything and more. Laughing joking and being a superstar. Beyonce eat your heart out. What a sort! Honestly, he was so helpful - feel really good about everything today.
Bottomless brunch was 10/10. The staff were lovely, especially Myles! He was so patient, fun and fabulous - he fitted in so well with us all, we wished he was free to join in!
We love it here. The main reason we love it is because of Myles - he is the absolute best. I love him. He’s gorgeous. The best waiter ever XX
Myles was the best host - all our needs attended and made the bottomless brunch the best experience. Thanks again! Hope to be back and have Myles as our host again 😊
Myles and Jass were incredible hosts, they made the day for us! They made us feel loved and attended to the entire time, although they were clearly busy. They made our day! Thank you, we will definitely be back xx
Myles was the best host. Very attentive and had a big smile the whole time. He made us feel very comfortable and we will be back for another bottomless brunch!
I love it, a very special place. The pizza was the best I ever had, its so delicious. There is a wide variety of drinks, we enjoyed the Gin Cocktails.Very nice people!
Amazing food, very great Bottomless Brunch deal and the service received by Miles was 10/10.I will definitely go at least once a month
Unfortunately our group left disappointed, the service is a bit off and the music in the venue is so loud you can barely hear the person on the opposite side of the table from you. We asked for the music to be turned down ever so slightly on a couple of occasions, and it was to the credit of the waiter, however the bar staff immediately turned it back up once they realised it was different, it made any form of communication with friends extremely difficult. Ironically towards the end of out sitting the bar same bar staff had to yell over the top of the music to tell us our time at the table was almost up.Delivery of food was below expectations, my partner had to follow up on her pizza 20 min after everyone else had received their food and essentially finished. The sides were given to the wrong end of the table and when queried if we could get more they said theyd run out, to our surprise replacements arrived 10 min later. In my view, save yourself the pain, book Mare Street Kitchen up the road and just order the amount of drinks/food you want. Probably works out cheaper and the atmosphere is better. (we went there straight after MH).
Bottomless brunch is so good, was expecting food to be substandard which can be the case with bottomless lunch however this was not the case as the food was delicious. It was lovely atmosphere for a Sunday and the staff were attentive especially Myles. Myles was an absolute darling and really took care of us. He’s a credit to Martello Hall
Really really poor, avoid! I was so excited to come here for my bday but am so let down with this place. Ill summarise the main issues below:1. Emailed that one of my party is in a wheelchair and telephoned over a week in advance to confirm so surprised that we were given a high table with stools to sit on (with my wife in a wheelchair next to me). I had to explain why that was not suitable for someone in a wheelchair, it was surprising the staff seemed so unsure about different accessibility needs.2. Took about 30 mins to order a drink then 70 mins to order food with it turning up 90 mins into our booking (for this entire time there were 4 other people in the bar). When I explained to the waiter that we only have the table for 2 hours but have only just been given our food with 30 mins left he said he will see what he can do and if there isnt a booking afterwards we can stay to finish our drinks even if the 2 hours is up which seemed meaningless. Our second drinks turned up about 10 minutes before the end of the booking.3. So many items were missing, the waiter had to come back 3 times to take one of my guests orders as they didnt have the ingredients. Then when her meal finally arrived it was missing a lot of the items (although we all had a laugh that a three tomato salad would be served with only two tomatoes on it!). Same for the £8 triple cooked chips with nduja ketchup which were just bog standard oven chips served with cheap vinegary ketchup. Ditto for the jalapeno cheese dip and other items which just didnt arrive (but were on the bill). The buttermilk chicken was awful too, just 3 burnt chicken goujons and some watermelon for £15!4. The drinks were nice, I had a mezcal negroni which (despite the very long waitwas nice. It was disappointing to order another and just get a standard negroni, when I managed to find a member of staff to ask about this I was told that they had used a different type of mezcal which, regardless of whether its true, is a shame as it just tasted like a standard negroni and nothing like the first one.5. The staff seemed very disinterested and I dont think anyone apologised for the whole time we were there and the majority of the time there were no members of staff to be seen.Overall, this is probably the worst bar / restaurant Ive been to in Hackney and one of the worst Ive been to in London. One of the issues above would have been disappointing but all of those issues ruined what should have been a celebratory birthday meal and left me quite embarrassed in front of my guests. This business is clearly trying to run before it can walk, the menu looks nice but until you can do the basics like serve guests in a timely manner and provide the items on the menu Id rather go to a wetherspoons! This is the first time ever that I have not paid service in a restaurant and still feel like we were ripped off. Avoid, go to anywhere else in Hackney instead!
We came for bottomless brunch which was pretty cool with a few options for drinks. The rum wasn’t too strong so it went down well for me! The food was good, and the triple cooked chips was probably my favourite. The downside would be cost and atmosphere, it was just too loud to be able to hear anything and quite a tight space. For a bigger group of friends and maybe one time visit is fine but I couldn’t see myself going there with a small group.
I’ve been here several times and loved it heaps. Great service, fantastic pizzas and the cocktails have been pretty good, too. Oh, and the design of the place is quite something as well.
Cocktails werent impressive. Lacked the kick or alcohol needed. Disappointing, Thanks for responding. Does that mean youll be serving cocktails with alcohol in it. Forgot to mention about your triple fried chips. Definitely a let down underwhelming. Try Lidl triple fried chips. A vast improvement on what you serve as chips. Havent tried your food yet and doubt i ever will.👍
Came for bottomless brunch, despite waiting 20 minutes for someone to come to the table, we were told our two hours started at the start time of the booking as they needed the table back. We decided not to do bottomless brunch, and the service was very slow. One of the meals took over an hour to arrive, we had to follow up three times. In the end we were at the table for nearly 3 hours as we were waiting to pay. Very strange business model. Drinks slow to come, no one checking in on you to make sure you were happy with food and didnt need something else. Food was mediocre. Buttermilk chicken as a main meal was literally three small pieces the size of goujons. Pizza undercooked.
We booked dinner for the first time at Martello Hall and immediately thought the place had a lovely interior and music, however.. it was incredibly cold!!! Never been to a restaurant without heating, seemed like it was cold throughout the whole venue, but especially on the ground floor. To accompany that, the food came out completely cold as well, which is a real shame because it would have been absolutely amazing otherwise, the place has a great menu. Staff are lovely and seemed like they recognise the temperature or lack there of. If you were going to book a table here in winter time, make sure to request a table that has no vents above it... you may regret otherwise :(
I love Martello hall! I’ve been the past 2 years for my birthday and many times for food and drinks! They are a full service venue - brunch / lunch/ dinner / drinks and late bar & music!Lots of options for table bookings and private hire. The service can be slow due to running short staffed possibly- but the servers / hosts/ bar staff are always so lovely.Great food, big stone pizza oven in the back and plenty of options on the menu for all dietary requirements including vegan/ dairy free etc.Great drinks- beer wine/ sparkling menu as well as cocktails and in house gin!Hugely recommend for brunch/ birthday plans/ group plan or even drinks. Open mornings until 3am so there’s always time to visit!
I’ve just been to a birthday brunch with some friends to your restaurant, food was great drinks were great but the management was appalling. We were never once offered drinks asked how our food was, our table was only cleared when there was no more space for dirty glasses or plates. I felt like I was sitting in the scullery we all enjoyed food and drinks but the experience was spoilt by poor management. That there’s no manager on duty on a Saturday is shocking we spent over 300£ in your restaurant.
This used to be my go to for bottomless brunch. Great food, great drink, and lovely staff. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as great lately. Had a friend tell me she had a horrible experience and didn’t receive her food for 3 hours, but thought it must have been a one off. Decided to book and had the exact same experience. First we were told there was no pizza because the pizza chef had gone home, except every other table around us, including people who arrived after us, were still receiving pizzas…. Then we waited 2 hours for our food which never showed up. We ended up canceling our order because we had somewhere to be. The staff was very kind and apologetic, but it was still a horrible experience. Really disappointed, as it used to be such a solid place. Hoping they can get it back to what it used to be
First time here, very welcoming, bottomless needs at least 3 people, pizza was a good size, Home fried chicken was very nice, definitely come back again.
Came here on a Saturday bottomless boozy brunch, definitely got value for money. Was seated straight away as was waiting for my party arrive. Staff attentive and came to the table to ask if I wanted to order something before they arrived. We decided on the rum punch cocktail, wasn’t what we expecting as thought it would be red but did the job! When we asked for our top ups the staff were great and able to accommodate, we had a table opposite the kitchen. Food was yum, we ordered a variety of starters and pizzas Great vibes and music. Was busy...good loud music which is what we like as originally was looking for place that had DJ... Large portions, especially pizza.
We had an amazing experience at the Saturday Brunch on 29th August. The food and drinks were outstanding, and so was the staff. The staff surely needs a separate 5 star review :)Visiting again soon with a bigger group!
Visited here last night (Wed, 13th Aug 2020), it looked really nice and the staff were excellent. It wasnt too busy at 7pm. They have the "Martello Larger" which changes on a daily basis from one of 4 local options, this to me was a really nice thing to see.The food: The food was really good, they have some great pasta and pizza options. I definitely enjoyed it and would highly recommend. My one downside would be the price, it is a little higher than initially expected. Overall the meal cost us £26 for a pizza, pasta and 2 pints with the 50% Eat Out to Help Out discount on food.Overall, I enjoyed the evening and the food. I would definitely come again.
Genuinely great pizza and food - and really friendly service. Will definitely come back to try the pasta + others.
Good food. Excellent service. Great decor. Small balcony upstairs.
Just imagine you work beside a wood pizza oven? I gonna to be distracted a little bit by the food…haha…but what about work in a warehouse style workspace or a lovely cocktail lounge of an old reclaimed decadence dating back to the 1860’s? That would be different. This time I tried such a kind of workspace mixing these together.London Coffee Shop for Digital Nomads-11Martello HallCategory: Restaurant(Pizzeria)+Bar+Co-workingWIFI: Reliable, free to use (need to ask the code)Seating: There are three floors. If you are looking for brunch in East London packed with character, great music and a vibrant atmosphere, then Martello Hall is the place! We arrived on Saturday afternoon around midday and by 1pm the place was packed. Everyone was having a great time – friends catching up, and celebrations going on! It feels like a place where you can chill out and let your hair down at the same time!Looking round this rustic and super cool venue, I found that Martello Hall has it all. It has (ia great little bar serving some awesome gins and creative cocktails (iia back area where you can watch the chefs in action (iiiupstairs is a cute snug area which you can hire out for parties and (ivoutside is a sweet little terrace! To top it off we met some of the loveliest, friendliest staff and it really made our day!I heard about Martello Hall through Brunchable which really helped me in my search to find great places that offer brunch. I was so pleased I used them because I couldn’t have been happier with my choice of brunch in East London! The menu at Martello Hall is varied so there certainly something for everyone. From hot and spicy pizza to avocado on toast – this place has it all! There is also a great selection of sides and a dessert choice of doughnuts for those extra hungry! Everything is individually priced so you can really mix and match. To top it off for just £25 per person you can make it boozy and bottomless! As we were very excited to come here, we made sure we were extra hungry so we could try as much as possible! We opted for the London Field Pizza (Chef’s meatballs, coppa, taleggio, gremolata, oregano – £14and the Slow Beef Rigatoni (12 hour slow beef ragu, parmesan, flat leaf parsley – £14for main. We also ordered sides of the Pecorino and Mint Crocchettas with hot mustard sauce (£6and the Rocket, Fennel and Roast Garlic Salad (£4). Obviously we had to go bottomless so we also ordered the Mimosa and the Martello Rum Punch (above). We were very impressed with the food here! The pizza was incredible with a crust to die for! The toppings were fantastic and it was one of the best pizzas we have had. As the kitchen had run out of rigatoni pasta they made our Slow Beef dish with tagliatelle pasta instead. This dish was awesome – the beef so tender and there was a great helping of parmesan cheese. The side dishes really complimented our main meals. The salad was light and refreshing and the crocchettas were ridiculously fluffy on the inside with a great crunchy outside. The hot mustard sauce may be a little overpowering for some, but I thought it worked well. The cocktails were crisp and light – exactly what you need when you are eating a hearty meal! They were pretty boozy too and the second your glass is empty the waiters are over with another. You really feel like you get your £££’s worth!Forgetting that our eyes were probably bigger than our bellies at this point, we finished with the doughnuts (Baby Bombolini £5 for one person, £8 for a sharing portion, £10 for the table)! Thirteen beautiful little balls which were dense on the inside and super crispy on the out. We were given two pots – one with local jam and one with Nutella. Although we couldn’t finish them they were so tasty but very indulgent! We loved it so much that we are planning our next trip back! Martello Hall is an awesome place for brunch in East London and really does tick all the boxes – great venue, fab atmosphere, awesome music, delicious food and lovely staff. What more could you ask for? So if you are currently planning a special occasion or a general meetup with some friends then book Martello Hall through Brunchable and you won’t be disappointed!
Great pizza, wood-fired but sitting somewhere between Neopolitan and New York in style. Slightly too thin and oversaucing (whilst deliciousled to a bit of a disintegration at the centre and topping landslide. Easily solved by rolling slightly thicker or saucing slightly less.Apart from textural issues, the crust was great, well salted, some nice leopard spotting and great gluten development.Attached photo references issues, last slice fell apart.
Cute pub close to London Fields with cool interiors and good selection of drinks and pizza. Came here for dinner twice and pizzas and pastas were tasty. Prices are on the steeper side but to be expected in a place like this.
Very pleased to have discovered this place (cafe/pizzaria and pub all in one)Love the vibe and decor, especially the space at the rear with the pizza oven. I also appreciate all the design touches from the lighting of the space to the half glazed coffee mug (which bears the logo of the cafe).Theres a good selection of interesting dishes and the pizza is delicious. Try the Po Boy sandwich made with pizza bread.I am keen to come back to try other dishes and maybe a drink in the evening.
