Maroon-Snowmass Trail, Aspen, CO 81611, United States, Carbondale
181,152-acre national forest with stunning mountain & water views & no private vehicles admitted.
Its a beautiful place. The trees, fallen leaves, mountains and lakes are perfectly integrated into a beautiful landscape. It is best to take good photos in the morning, because the afternoon is backlit! Tickets are only $10
Beautiful but crowded during peak fall. Make sure you get booking well in advance
Enjoyed the views. The transportation service worked out perfect. The bus driver was funny and made the trip up more relaxing and enjoyable. Beatiful location. Hey, tourists/Instagramer fools that like to take photos and changed outfits in the middle of the trail move away, other people want pass you! Dont be inconsiderate, por favor!
It’s gorgeous, stunning. But the permit system, while warranted, has some holes in it. If you take the shuttle you can’t be at the park past 4pm, and bike rentals START at $90 for a few hours. I feel it’s made seeing Maroon bells more complicated and tedious if you want to see the sunset.
Was very pretty even in the rain. Took the bus from Maroon Creek area instead of driving. There are bathrooms where youre let off and a couple areas to get out of the rain. Lots of hiking trails. Bus comes around every 15 minutes to go back to the Maroon Creek area that has some shopping and food.
Obviously this is an absolutely stunning place. The only thing I would say is that, since its a popular spot, prepare to be amongst many people. We got there around 6:30am and there were already a lot of people there.
Went to see the sunset. Breathtaking views up by the lake. Be prepared to share the trails with moose and deer. Almost witnessed natural selection up close when dumb tourists walked right up to a moose and her calf. Good times.
Came here 40 years ago and would come again. Magnificent scenery. Bathrooms on-site. The shuttle service was efficient and convenient. The scenic loop was rated easy, but there were plenty of rocks on the way to bring a bit of a challenge. We were here at the beginning of the fall colors- it gets better than the photos show. Dont pass by this gem if youre in the area.
Surreal experience. Took the shuttle and did some hikes. So beautiful.
Every bit as spectacular as you think, probably more so.
Stunning. Easy walk from the shuttle drop off.Crater lake hike was far more difficult than we anticipated and planned for, but so worth it! Just take extra snacks and water if you plan on doing it
Absolutely one of the most beautiful spots in the US. Cars are not allowed into the preserve after 8 am unless you are camping within the park, but the shuttle from the Aspen Snowmass are great and run several times an hour. From the park there is quite a bit to see and do and different areas can accommodate a variety of hiking ability. We had the opportunity to take the trail up to Crater Lake which was lovely but can be a demanding hike for a novice.
Great place. Bells are easy to get to from the parking lot. Crater lake is 1.4 mile up from there. Medium level hike.
This incredibly beautiful spot is a must see! Easiest way to visit is to park in the lot ($6 per hourand take the shuttle bus up ($20 per person round trip, $14 per senior)
Maroon Bells offers some excellent hikes and opportunities for photographers! The trails were busy, especially the scenic trail that we hiked. You have the option of biking up, or taking the shuttle up (which is recommended). Our driver on the way up was Owen, who was a wonderful gentleman from Brooklyn. He was an engaging and funny dude who had many stories about the landscape and houses around the route up to the trail. Additionally, the office staff and tour coordinators at the shuttle area were very pleasant.
Very unique and beautiful place with read6y hiking areas.
Amazing view! Good trail! Expect a lot of bugs in summer.
One of the most beautiful spots on earth. If you plan on hiking to Crater lake be prepared for ascending grade and large rocks
Where do I begin? The hiking is so fantastic I can’t even come up with the words to deceive the view. No wonder private transport is restricted to this natural beauty. The mountains in the background, the clearest water rolling down the hills of long grass and purple wildflowers is just enough for someone to believe they’re accidentally found the garden of Eden or heaven itself. Not to mention the tour guides and staff surrounding the area. Beyond helpful and caring which isn’t common. The shuttle on the way up providing a narration of the sights on our journey up there, what can I say? It was well worth the trip and I can’t say it enough but pictures do not do the location Justice.
Wonderful place and enjoyed the drive and places. Small creeks and running waster with huge water fall which will make your mind peaceful and stay like that with view and sound. Melting snows.
Simply Mindblowing. Got there riding a bike and hiked for an hour. Memorable trip!
Hiked to Crater Lake. Incredible mountain views & beautiful lakes.
Incredible views, great hike up to crater lake. Worth the trip.
Very beautiful place, make sure you get reservations for the shuttle bus early.
It feels wrong to give nature less than 5 stars but hear me out. The maroon bells and surrounding wilderness area/forest are stunning. The trails are clear and there are quite a few trails varying in difficulty. The hike to crater lake was decently difficult for a stubby asthmatic such as myself. The trail gets rocky and steep in some places but it really wasn’t too bad. We went in the morning which was a good choice. If it were hotter I would have had a harder time.My issue lies with the way you get to Maroon Bells. There are two reservation options, a shuttle where you pay for the ticket AND for parking your vehicle or pay $10 to park near the trails. We ended up paying about $70 for parking and the shuttle. I called and emailed about parking passes (which are $10and was told they were all sold out. We did spend several hours at the Bells so I guess it was worth it. You can walk from Aspen to the shuttle area as well which would be cheaper. The parking/shuttle situation just wasn’t my fav.Beautiful place. Highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing! My dad and I finally made it up to the Maroon Bells for the first time, though we have lived in Colorado for almost three decades. The spectacular views of Maroon Peak and the surrounding mountain ranges are visible immediately after stepping foot off of the shuttle bus and only get better as you get closer. I highly recommend the moderate hike going past Maroon Lake and down to Crater Lake where the magnitude of the peak can best be viewed towering up from behind the serene water. Cameras cannot do it justice, but Im sure a wide angle lense would help! We ended up proceeding about a mile past Crater lake which also provided some gorgeous return views, but then turned around there. When we went in mid June, going past Crater lake several parts of the trail were submerged either under the lake which had risen or creeks from the melting snow. We were able to navigate around them, but there were a couple of areas which may be difficult for some people to pass.
Just wow! I expected huge crowds but we nearly had the place to ourself for the 5pm ticket. Highly recommend visiting, view is insane just for a short walk.
Wow. Just wow, what a fantastic place to visit. Great scenery and wildlife. We saw elk, deer and moose. Including calf elk and calf moose. Oh, and a fox. So yes, a must do for Colorado.
Beautiful viewpoint. Scenic trail around the lake is short but the best views are still from the start of the trailhead. Im summer months, youll want to take the shuttle or reserve parking pass online. For parking pass, you need to arrive either before 8 am or after 5 pm at the place marked Maroon Bells Welcome Center on Google maps. Interagency pass is accepted. Reflection in lake is best in the morning
One of the most photographed natural areas in North America. The aspen trees in peak autumn are stunning. Sunrise was beautiful, but I can imagine sunset being even more breathtaking.
One of the best places that Ive visited and seen in my whole life. Highly recommended! ❤️
What is there not to love about the Bells! Always worth it! Incredible views, the perfect experience for all ages and the best place to remind you of Gods majesty. Sign-up online for the bus to take you to and from the mall. You’ll have to pay for the bus and parking. But it’s worth it. If you’re going to drive it, you’ll have to pay park fees and parking, but you’ll be able to bring more things with you.
Wow❤A painting-like scenery. Before joining the shuttle bus, listen carefully to the instruction of the staff. Also, take a lot of pictures and videos on the way and when your in Maroon bells. Enjoy the place ❤
Maroon Bells is a moderate to difficult hike which is located about twenty minutes before Aspen. You need to make a reservation before getting here. There is a shuttle service which picks up the hikers or visitors from the parking lot and take them to the drop-off zone. There are stand by tickets also available when the season is not too busy. The hike can be difficult if it has rained because most of the hike to Maroon Bells is very Rocky - that is if you decide to hike up to the Crater Lake. I would say this place is outstanding when visiting during The Fall season when the colors are just breathtaking. If you are here just do view the Maroon Bells you can get dropped off by the shuttle and it is a easy walk through the first viewing point which is mostly paved.
This is most popular trail in Aspen, post covid passenger vehicles are not permitted up, you are now required to pre-book your reservation and take a bus to the trail. Not to worry if you dont have a reservation, head to the Highlands and you get on stand-by and get on the bus to Maroon Bells within an hour. The crater lake trail is a 3.6 mile must hike.
Maroon bells is the most beautiful lake in colorado state and also one of the most photographed place is the USA. If you want to go to maroon lake, you need to take a bus from visitor center, the bus service is till 5. There are multiple trails but try to come back before 5 otherwise you will be stuck there. Masks are mandatory!
This hike is a must! I came here about 8 years ago and its still as beautiful as I remember. I would recommend to wear hiking boots if possible because there is a part of the trail with a ton of rocks of different sizes. The Crater Lake part of it is also beautiful. Take your time to notice the beauty all around. Its also a good idea to carry bear spray just in case since it is possible to encounter a bear in this area. I will definitely be coming back to enjoy it again.
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! Warning: the trail up the mountain is quite challenging. I do a fair amount of hiking but with the heat, altitude, steepness, and rough trails, I could not make it to the lake. Its worth at least hiking 20-30 minutes up the trail as the views are beautiful and youre surrounded by Aspen trees.
Maroon Bells is such an amazing place. The trail is a bit rocky and might be difficult for beginners. It is windy and a bit chilly when you get to Crater lake but well worth it. Stop frequently and enjoy the scenery.
Really beautiful place. Not a hike if you take the bus. Really pretty with all the wildflowers and the lake. There are a few trails near the lake if you want to explore more
Best places to visit in Aspen. During covid you need to do reservations for shuttle services since private cars are not allowed. Its very crowded and tourist spot. Its a nice view If you come during golden hour and not in the peak afternoon. I personally loved crater lake more than maroon bells. There is a hike which takes you to crater lake right from maroon bells and that lake is magical. Maroon bells is perfect spot for someone who is not fond of hiking or cant walk.
This is a remarkable place in all seasons. We went in the winter and summer and it always amazes me how beautiful our planet is. Truly and #1 spot to visit in Aspen!
I highly recommend visiting the Maroon Bells. The mountans and lakes are spectacular. The hikes are easy to moderate. I took many gorgeous pictures, including one of a deer that was only 10 feet away.Plan to drive up before 8 am or pay $25 to park your car and another $12 per person to ride the bus. The last bus run is at 5 pm.We took the noon bus up to the park, walked the major trails, and took the 4:30 bus back. We had plenty of time. I recommend taking the bus no later than noon.I also recommend arriving 45 minutes before your bus is scheduled to leave. We ran into traffic delays and almost missed the bus.Lastly, I recommend purchasing your bus tickets online to reserve your ride. Maroon Bells is a very popular place. Also bring water, food, and a jacket with you. There are no shops at the park.
A very accessible paradise, just gotta book a shuttle or reserve parking (due to COVID). Hopefully the COVID restrictions are lifted soon for allowing a larger number of visitors.
Beautiful spot, even in the summer, to take a photo and start the hike up to Crater Lake or beyond. Be sure to make reservations in order to drive up and park before 8AM or reserve a seat on the shuttle for anytime after that. They do get booked up so dont wait until last minute. If reservations are full, you can still grab a Taxi to take you up before 8AM.
Woah! The views here are worth it! You have to get there early to beat the traffic, but if you can it is absolutely stunning. The trail isn’t too long and the end of it is very rewarding. Amazing views from the first step to the last, with many in between. One of the highlights of my visit to this part of Colorado.
There is a 10$ cash/cheque for entrance fee. Shuttle ride is available till 5pm. After 5pm you can drive your car to reach the location. The place is serene with birds chirping, water sounds, clear water, picturesque views. It can get chilly here so better carry a jacket or a hoodie. This place is definitely a must visit. Don’t miss the sunrise. The best time to visit this place is August. The water levels dropped during October
Wonderful hiking in spring, summer and autumn. The views are stunning and there are plenty of trails to choose from. Great photography here! If you enter before 8 am or after 5 pm, then you can drive up in your own car. Otherwise you can park at the Aspen Highlands Ski Area and take the bus to/from Maroon Bells. (Continuous bus service starts at 8:05 am, the last bus departs to the Maroon Bells at 4:30pm and returns to Highlands from the Maroon Bells at 5:00pm)
Got to experience this amazing place at the peak of fall colors. I have never seen such a beautiful place before and it was honestly breathtaking. Grateful for everything I saw, and the bus driver from the bus tour we took before we went back up, the one from Brookyln. He was hilarious and I genuinely enjoyed that too.
Most photographed place in Colorado (I would rate top 5 in US). We visited this place in September’s last weekend. It was full of yellow aspen. The Fall colors definitely add to its beauty, but the centre of attraction are the Maroon Peaks. Amazing views. It was a bit windy and chilly until 12 pm.
