White-tablecloth American standby with thoughtfully sourced ingredients, a bar & patio seating.
Our beloved Mark will always have the best restaurant on the planet! We love Marks food and atmosphere! And will always eat here at every special occasion and anytime in between!
Had dinner there the other not, hear this was a fiver star place but I was highly disappointed! I guess 5 star means you eat on paper over your linen table cloth!! Then our serve brought out bread and told us hear is your bread made yesterday, cool thanks for the day old bread!!! The menu was limited which is fine I got ta steak, steak was good but the vegetables and potatoes were nothing special something anyone could make at home. I felt like the whole time the serve was condescending and looking down on our table like he was better then us, at one point I heard our serve tell another tablethey just don’t know what real good food is, not sure if he was referring to me because I didn’tlike the giant slivers of anchovies on my Caesar salad or the yellow iceberg lettuce it was sitting on. The atmosphere was stiff and out dated! Are worn was odd which is fine but I didn’t find anything charming or romantic! Won’t be back because the serve just ruined the experience and didn’t make us feel welcomed.
best prime NY Strip and garlic mashed potatoes!!!!!!super chef!! always twisting every dish into a unique delicious way.Very beautiful multi-picture window view of the court yard garden, too. All are VERY friendly and make good cocktails!
Great service and staff! Delicious food super convenient location. We had a great Valentines day there.
Amazing filet. Lovely atmosphere. Service was good too, but there wasnt anyone else there at the time we arrived.
Went there for New Years Eve.I was underwhelmed by both food and service. Our waiter was rather indifferent. The food was good but in my opinion to pricey.Maybe next time.
Marks Restaurant is a great choice for a special occasion. When everything has to be perfect, this is the place to go. In warmer weather, the outdoor seating is delightful, with a quiet, peaceful feeling. The servers were knowledgeable, and able to give helpful advice on the foods and on the wonderful selection of quality wines that are available here. The food is meticulously prepared, and sourced from the highest quality ingredients.
Overall the experience was good. Chicken was one the best Ive tasted. The vegetables were ok as was the salad. The creme brulee did not have a strong flavor. Service was excellent from Bob. Id go back to see if it was an off night.
food was good, our server was good. However another server was VERY rude. We were seated outside and the server stood at the window inside starring at us wanting to leave. It was during the furniture market and a time when you should expect to work later and appreciate the business. We had an 8PM reservation and had to move outside because the table behind of 15-20 men was very loud and we couldnt hear each other. Not a place to take clients during furniture market.
This was my very first time trying Escargot and choosing where to try it was not an easy decision. But I chose this place because of the reviews and it being 4.7 Stars. Im not one to complain but I know that every review made, whether good or bad, is all positive and a way to improve the business. The food was okay, but the service needs attention. I felt like I was a "bother" being there. I felt that if I looked "Rich", I would have been treated with Respect as I watched how the waiter treated the others. When i asked for a recommendation on what type of Wine was good, I was given a menu and was told that all the wines on the menu was hand-picked by Mark himself. I was told that if we wanted to try the Chocolate Souffle, to order it when we order food because it takes a long time to make, in which we did confirm that we wanted it. But due to a misunderstanding on his part, I was blamed for it because he said I "pointed" to another type of dessert. He repeatedly stated this. I was not upset that it was a misunderstanding, but to be blamed for it, I was in utter disbelief! The owner himself was very unprofessional as he was in inappropriate state of being. Overall, I give this place 2.5 stars because I feel that the customer service needs improvement.
Wonderful atmosphere, this place is a gem off the beaten path. The food was delicious and the service was great. The chef even came out and talked with us. One of the better restaurants around Greensboro.
Very good food, though they didnt really have a dish that stood out. Cuban theme in the decor, but it didnt seem to be reflected in the menu. Overall, a nice experience for a Mothers Day lunch!
The food was good. Served precisely as expected. Salad greens were fresh and crisp. Atmosphere was fun and eclectic. Our server Kyle, the budding young film maker, was quiet, gracious, attentive, and right on cue. It was overall a very pleasant experience. Ill definitely go back.
The food here is great and the atmosphere matches. They have good drinks, and are serious about the service. Granted it is a bit pricey, but you get every pennys worth. This is a great place for a serious date or a celebratory dinner. They can accommodate larger parties, but smaller groups are more their specialty.
I have been going to Marks for years and have never been disappointed. Food is always outstanding. Recently went to a wine dinner where Beringer wines were featured and dinner consisted of 4 Tapas plates as well as dessert. A great experience that I would highly recommend whenever these special events come up. Mark is a great chef and a really nice guy to boot.
Mark is an incredibly talented chef. He has a great following of serious food and wine fans who dine there regularly. If you have not tried Mark’s yet, add it to your list.
Food was awesome!! Service was good!! It was our 3 year anniversary and they brought us a flambeau at the end of our meal without asking for one but when we got our bill they charged us $15 for it. I was a bit confused about that. Besides that food was good.
The restaurant is charming, with what seems to be a thoughtful menu and drink list. Our service was good, and our waiter did a good job of providing recommendations to us. However, the food was pretty underwhelming, particularly at the price point. Perhaps our expectations were heightened because of very strong reviews seen here and elsewhere, but we found our food to be little more than adequate (with the exception of a delicious curried cauliflower soup.Specifically disappointing was the presentation of the tenderloin bruschetta small plate. Requested at medium rare, it was served at medium (or even a little more), and the crostini, rather than crispy as described, was soaked through with juices. Not that that would have been awful in and of itself, but soggy≠crispy. Finally, the cocktails were not worth their $12-14 price tags. They were good, to be sure, but for that price in this market, Im expecting close to a life-changing experience.
The service was good and the food was divine. Between the four of us, we had the seafood gumbo, crawfish fettuccine, and crawfish spring rolls.
Best word I can come up with is, "Wow!" Everything on my plate was SO delicious. I had the Seared Duck Breast with Sweet Potato Hash, Mixed Vegetables and a Blood Orange Reduction. Im not even a big veggie fan, and I ate every last one on my plate. And the Sweet Potato Hash... oh my. Its a beautiful atmosphere. It got a little loud in there due to a larger party close to us, but I wasnt overwhelmed by it. Great food, great staff!!!
Good food and nice atmosphere. Not your typical mixed roasted veggies-- instead a wonderfully unique mix of green beans, Brussels sprouts, and carrots. Wonderfully seasoned salmon as well!Only suggestions: create more professional looking menu, replace garlic-infused olive oil with fresh herbs and olive oil to be served with bread, and continue providing training for the service staff.
I used to eat at Marks on Westover way back in the day. Just tried Marks Restaurant since moving back to the triad and WOW! This is just as fantastic! We had salmon and scallops, both were served timely, hot and super tasty. Roasted red pepper bisque was delicious. There are plenty of options on the menu to keep it healthy and service was spot on.
New Years eve dinner was outstanding! Service was perfectly timed. Food was perfectly prepared. The bill was quite reasonable.
I love marks restaurant. Great food. Caring staff. We have our Christmas party here every year. The food is to die for and its so quaint. You must visit.
You may have passed this restaurant many times without realizing it , but it is worth visiting even for just appetizers and drinks, or after dinner coffee and dessert. It is white table cloth dining without all the pomp and production you typically find at restaurants of this caliber. I had a wonderful experience dining here. The intimate setting with colorful artwork adorning the walls allows for good conversation in a relaxed and carefree environment, the kind of place that lends itself to story telling and toasting to old times. The wine list is quite extensive, and varied regarding price and varietal, but the food is clearly the shining star here. Everything on the menu looked fantastic, and our server gave us plenty of time and guidance to make our choices, never rushing us. We chose to order a few small plates so we could all have a bit of everything. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the ostrich was tender and moist, and the duck was served with just the right amount of sauce to compliment versus drown the duck flavor, and the corn- red pepper flan was surprisingly my favorite part of the whole meal ( if its on the menu during your visit , it is a must try). Treat your self and visit this local establishment!
We were in town on business and decided to try Marks. A little skeptical when we first pulled up, but dont let the appearance of a small house fool you. Its much bigger inside and they have a nice garden dining area as well. Service was prompt, Conner was very informative and the food was right on point! We had the escargot and calamari sticks to start. Entree selections were bone in veal chop, bone in ribeye special, lobster ravioli and several others. All were great!! I would recommend this place to anyone and well be back again...sooner rather than later.
Superb cuisine! Risotto and scallops are "melt in your mouth" good. Wonderful atmosphere for you and that special someone. 5 Stars!!!
Marks recently catered a gathering for my extended family and earned rave reviews from everyone. The food was fantastic--fried chicken, eggplant parmesan, lots of blanched vegetables with a lovely salad. We topped it off with a delicious chocolate cake. Mark was enormously helpful with menu suggestions and even accommodated my mothers request for sweet potato chips. He reconfirmed before the event and followed up to be sure that his driver was on time. Marks has always been a family favorite for dinner, but now hes our favorite caterer as well.
Loved it. Nice atmosphere nice couples mood lighting. Gourmet menu and an entire wine menu of its own. Food was great wonderful in fact. Waiter was perfect. Spent enough away and always came back in perfect time. Prices are good for the experience. Small parking lot but huge interior. They even have a private dining option. A must try.
This is a hijacked website. The menu is all wrong. Google should remove it. The confusion ruined my anniversary dinner. The restaurant is fine. They will not be hi jacked to buy their own namesake website. I reported to Google, they have done nothing.
I visited this place about a month ago, and it had a nice atmosphere with spectacular food, but my primary reason for writing this review is because of the spectacular service we got from our server Dennis, I believe his last name was Adams. This young man provided our gang with exceptional service, in fact, I dont believe anyone in our group wanted for a thing that he hadnt already anticipated. I recommend this restaurant, but I highly recommend that you request Dennis as your server, I can promise you will not be disappointed.
Not sure why we dont go there more often. Beautiful setting in old house. Interior ambiance perfect. Menu offerings top notch.Whether for a romantic dinner or just a really good meal, Marks restaurant succeeds.
A high end restaurant that is for the discerning diner set in a nice suburb of Greensboro. You might drive by the place if you are not paying attention as it looks like any other house in the neighborhood. It is across the street from the Walmart. An elaborate menu with some unusual items in it. Certainly not the run of the mill dishes that you would come across in the franchise restaurants.Knowledgeable wait staff that know what is on offer and are well informed. Mark himself (yes the one the place is named aftercame out a couple of times to check on the guests to make sure everyone was happy!I got the Kobe steak which came with a rather delicious Mushroom sauce and some mixed vegetables cooked to perfection and fries. The back end of the place has very large windows overlooking the garden and backyard. The view is very nice and I would highly recommend booking a table that overlooks the backyard if you are going to get there with some daylight remaining.Overall a very satisfying experience and would recommend.
Wonderful food and a great wine list. Small plates and full dinners, all are delicious. The menu isnt extensive... looking forward to some seasonal changes.
Great dinning experience, food and service was great, ambience reminded me of B&B places in Blowing Rock. The only drawback was the prices which were more costly than Green Valley Grill. I simply thought the food was overpriced. Would I go back? Yes, but only for a special occasion.
Situated in a converted house across the street from the Quaker Village shopping center, Mark’s is easily overlooked, but it shouldn’t be. Owner/chef Mark Freedman claims 40 years of experience, and it shows in what comes out of the kitchen.Though a small space, Mark’s is handsomely appointed. Vibrant art adorns the dining room walls, and there’s a homey yet elegant feel. This would make for an enjoyably cozy environment were it not for the room’s acoustics. Conversations at nearby tables tend to sound louder than they are.Mark’s menu offers a variety of apps, salads, small plates, and entrees with enough potential to render decisions difficult. My wife, who had a fried chicken craving, was freed from this dilemma, but I was torn between salmon with black butter, duck confit, or shrimp with lobster ravioli before finally settling on the latter. Good food takes time, so we knew we would be in for a bit of a wait. Thankfully, fresh bread and olive oil kept hunger at bay. When they finally did arrive, both dishes were nicely plated, and they tasted even better than they looked. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the lobster and mascarpone ravioli were addictively good, and the tomato cream sauce was rich and complex. The fried chicken was not only moist but more flavorful (some kind of pan sauce?than most renditions of the bird. It paired well with boursin mac (shellsand cheese and mixed vegetables. Execution was spot-on across the board.Mark’s servers are polite and attentive, and they seem dedicated to making sure that you are having a good meal. Mark himself will also make the rounds, which was a nice touch. As to be expected, the food here isn’t cheap, but it is in-line with other Greensboro establishments of this caliber. The fried chicken came out to $18 while the shrimp and lobster ravioli were $26. While the former was a respectably sized portion, the latter ran rather small.Mark’s may not be the first name that comes to mind for a celebratory meal, and its definitely a small-scale operation, but on taste alone, it belongs in the conversation.
Best restaurant in the Triad, without any doubt. Best wine list with reasonable prices. Venison is off the charts delicious. New Zealand wild salmon is phenomenal. Chef sometimes has Wagyu or Kobe beef - ask and if available it is awesome.
Good food. Good service.Wide range of choices, including some not on many menus, such as ostrich, and some on a lot of menus but a bit different, such as mac and cheese.I especially liked having small plates with small plate sides.Specials but dont delay coming too long. Tonight our table ordered the last two sea bass entrees. No matter, youll find something youll like.
Excellent meal. The grilled salmon was delicious and the veggies were steamed perfectly. Service was good.I plan to return... Soon
A birthday celebration with friends was delightful. Marks food was particularly wonderful, as well as his attention. Matt was so attentive and helpful with menu selections. Lovely evening all around!
Me and my husband went to Marks Restaurant for our one year anniversary. It was so much fun! The food was very delicious. I had lamb chops and couscous. My husband had shrimp and lobster stuffed raviolis. Both our dishes were amazing. We ended up ordering another plate of the lobster ravioli to take to the hotel with us to have some more. We also tried the ostrich too. It tastes like steak except way more tastier and juicy. We ordered their lobster tails. They were seasoned to perfection. We ate so much last night. I also love the artwork displayed around the restaurant. It is marvelous. I love the seating as well. Our waiter was amazing! I am sort of like that really annoying energetic customer who likes to take pictures of every moment. I had asked the waiter if he can take pictures of me and my husband and he was so kind and courteous and did so. Mark had greeted us and was so kind, fun, and courteous. I am beyond happy we chose Marks Restaurant for our one year anniversary. We were beyond satisfied. We will def come back. I would recommend hus Restaurant to everyone. 😊😊
One of the BEST dining experiences I have had in Greensboro in years. This was more than eating out, it was DINING. First there was little noise which was a quality that the majority of restaurants in Greensboro suffer from. You could actually carry on a normal conversation. Everyone at the table bragged on their food. My Sea Bass was the best that I have ever had and it was cooked to perfection. Every vegetable was cooked perfectly. The service was friendly, professional and very attentive...perfect! Moved to the top of my list. Looking forward to returning.
Good food with friends. Casual in the bar or more formal in the dining room. The owner Mark is very accommodating as well as doing requests in food with adequate lead time ahead your meal. Occasional cigar on the patio is welcome later in the evening.
We came here for our anniversary dinner after a trusted foodie friend very spoke highly of his first experience at Marks; our night was equally as wonderful and we will surely be back soon. We had the cheese plate and shared a salad-- both were fresh and very tasty. I ordered the duck, medium, and the soufflé for dessert-- I loved each of them would definitely order again. The soufflé was perfection! We also has afew glasses of the Tate Red Blend, which I really enjoyed, and the Moscow Mule, incredible! The dining room was nice and romantic with a lovely view of the patio, which looks very nice, as well. Definitely recommended!
"Great food, service, and atmosphere.""I had fish and chips and enjoyed the meal.""They did not charge us for my sons meal or the appetizer!"
Oh my goodness!!!! What an amazing restaurant, great service, plates, and bar. Loved the Chicken with macaroni and cheese! Went to heaven and came back! Thank you for taking pride in your kitchen!
Fantastic meal in a very nice environment. The food is exquisite, I had the duck breast which is the most tender and light taste that I have ever had for duck. It was paired up with a nice sweet potato souffle and asparagus. I stole some of my friends pineapple chutney which went perfectly with the duck. The wife had the broiled scallops and they were extremely fluffy, like sweet sea marshmallows.
I celebrated an early Valentines day date with my significant other, and it was our first experience at Marks. The service was impeccable and personal - Im not a very "experienced" drinker - i.e., I tend to stick to my relatively short list of known favorites, and our server was very skilled at helping choose beverages for both my date and I to suit our palettes. The food was amazing! We had an appetizer of local cheeses with crackers and jam, followed by filet mignon with steamed (?vegetables, potato terrine, and gouda mac and cheese. We closed out with their chocolate souffle, which comes with a disclaimer that it takes 45 minutes. Since we had a baby sitter, we took advantage of the time and had a drink while we waited. ALL of the food was worth the wait, each and every morsel. The gouda mac & cheese was by far the best mac & cheese Ive ever had in my life, and I would say that the filet mignon was also the best steak Ive ever had, if not super close. Definitely a better experience than your big "fine-dining-chains", i.e. Ruth and Chris, Mortons, etc. Those are good also, but this was by far, the best dining experience weve ever had, individually and together, and I look forward to celebrating our next special occasion there. The ONLY criticism I can give the place (because no place is perfect, but they were close!is that they ran out of the items to make one of their menu drinks, and I called in advance to see if they could put flowers on the table to celebrate our occasion (even at an extra charge); I left a message and never received a call back. Thats being super-picky; it was Valentines weekend, so I wasnt upset by it, just leaving feedback.Overall a FANTASTIC experience, and I look forward to our next meal there!
Phenonimal restaurant. I have yet to find an item on the menu I dislike. The dining area is small and personal which is great for business lunches, etc. Staff is friendly and always provides great service Ive come to expect! A++
I was excited to eat here as I had read the reviews and heard wonderful things about the restaurant. I am sure I will return, but I had a so-so experience that broke down by the following. We ordered an app, entree, and desert which actually ended up being great value for the money. There are some expensive entrees, but for both of us to eat it was about 49 bucks.... great deal. Our app was the Calamari Fries with Sweet Thai.... which let me tell you was the best and most amazing Calamari I have ever had. Usually, you get small slivers battered with a lot of breading. These were large pieces lightly battered and really had amazing taste. That couple with the sauce was truly one of the best apps I have ever had.... WONDERFUL MARK.We then had the Kung Pao Shrimp and Scallops. I have never had such tender and amazing tasting scallops. Another home run.At this point I was amazed at the experience. Then the chef came out and sat at a table of individuals he obviously knew. He got up and said hello and checked on every table except for mine. I know I am being picky, but I thought it was rude he walked right past us and said nothing while he had greeted every other table. Maybe it was because we didnt order multiple bottles of wine or spent 100s of dollars on such, but I felt insulted. We did end up having one of the cocktail specials which was the Shiny Pear... basically Moonshine crafted with pear puree. This was an amazing cocktail. We were excited about the white chocolate bread pudding to finish off the night, but it ended up being a HUGE disappointment. I am unsure as to why it was called White Chocolate. It had no chocolate overtones, no shaved chocolate, the "home-made" ice cream was soupy and it sat so heavy on my stomach I got sick on the way home. It was very hard and was so inedible, we didnt finish it and just left it there in case someone needed to break a window. We didnt say anything to the server as we felt the rest of the meal was wonderful, but the bread pudding was a disaster. We ate over 10 hours ago and I still feel it sitting in my stomach even after getting sick three times already. So to recap, amazing amazing app and entree, but STAY away from the bread pudding. Hopefully the chef isnt as insulting to the other customers in the future.
