Maritime Museum of Finland - Maritime museum in Lappeenranta, Finland
Cool place, but they should make a bigger spot for kids. Mabey a thing just for kids. Still, good. (the "Merimonsterit" theme is a little creepy🐡😬
Excellent place for both big and little.
good
Great museum
Mielentoista historiaa, avaraa. Ehkä turhan hämärää, vaikea lukea tekstejä. Hienot näyttelyt.
Very Bug, very much seeing
On tullut reilu kymmenen vuotta sitten käytyä, mutta laivat ulkona olivat uutta. Kymenlaakson näyttely myös hyvä. Kokonaisuus sangen laaja.
Very Big place must Have Time at least 2h and boat simulator
Large exposition, magnificent design.
Nice museo
Absolutely stunning place. You can stay here for a half of the day and find something interesting. Definitely a place to visit while in Kotka. Nb - wheelchair friendly place.
Kiinnostavasti rakennettu kokonaisuus. Sain hyvän kuvan merenkulusta eri vuosisatoina. Ruotsinsalmen meritaistelu oli avattu nykyajan keinoin helposti ymmärrettäväksi draamaksi. 1700-luvun hmisten elämäkerrat toivat sodan kurjuuden lähelle.
So much to see.Among other things: Fatefull Svensksund is an interesting and really versatile exposition that tells a story of the biggest sea battle in the Baltic sea in 1790.The exposition lasts until 2027!Old icebreaker TARMO can be visited with extra 5€. Really worth it, and the guiding was excellent and very helpful. We had limited time, 1 hour and a half. Will come back for more. The museum shop was good, and in 5minutes before closing time the service was still impeccable and friendly.I found an excellent shampoo soap bar, good coffee and a fan.
All in all a great museum. There was an exhibition about sea monsters, which the kids liked. The other exhibitions were interesting as well!
Always nice to be here.
It is really nice with a big variety of objects and enough information.
Excellent museum.A lot of high tech helps explain history. Educational and some fun spots for kids. Plan two to four hours.
Niin iso ja vaikuttava paikka, että iskee paljouden väsy ennen kuin on kaikki kierretty. Suosittelen varaamaan aikaa 2-3h, tai käymään vain osassa kerralla.
Fun and informative. Good for children too.
This museum is excellent for everyone! Ive been there with my parents and grandparents and everyone was shocked and excited. I loved the part about the Russian-Swedish war 1788-1790, the lives of the soldiers were described in detail, what is interesting, also exhibits where interesting.
Pretty amazing museum, with a ton of content for adults and kids, no matter if you are seasick or own a boat. Large (and super funsection for kids, additional exhibition spaces (this time there was a lovely Finnish glass exhibition). Highly recommended if you happen to be anywhere near Kotka.
Kaksi aikuista ja kaksi lasta, kaikille ikäluokille katsottavaa ja koettavaa.Hienot puitteet, samassa tilassa monta eri kokonaisuutta ja kirsikkana kakun päällä höyryjäänmurtaja Tarmo, minne oli kylläkin oma pääsymaksunsa, mutta juuri hankitulla museokortilla (aivan paras 🌲/5sekin tuli kuitattua "samaan hintaan".Suosittelen👍
Very interesting exhibition.
Brilliant museum for young and old. Impressive boat exhibit, gripping interactive exhibits of naval battles.
It was very nice 😊
Excellent place to visit
Must see in Kotka.
A very nice place, even if you arent interested in boats or the Finnish marine history. The prices to get in arent too high and in my opinion its worth every penny.
Amazing museum 🤩 whole family place 🤩
Beautiful museum.
This stunning museum has something to offer for all ages. If you are interested in naval or Finnish history this is a must visit for foreigners and locals. The first thing you will notice when you arrive is the unique architecture of the building itself. Its shape makes it stand out, and you have a beautiful view from the top of the museum. The entrance feels grand. The entire interior, including exhibitions, has an elegant modern feel to it and is superbly designed. The museum consists of multiple exhibitions, a permanent one and up to 4 temporary ones. Descriptions of works are shown in Finnish, Swedish, Russian & English. Some pieces do only have Finnish and Swedish text so be warned. The permanent exhibition is a wonderful look into Finnish (Russian/Swedishnaval history starting from the medieval era. It holds everything from boats to tools. But it is much more than that, as reading and studying what the museum offers gives a lot of insight in the progression of Finnish culture over the years. The layout switches up the timeline which keeps it from becoming monotonous, but can be confusing. The temporary exhibitions usually consists of one related to Finnish traditions, one for local artists and two with varying topics. When i visited there was an exposition on the Swedish/Russian naval wars near Kotka and the impact on the people. It was shown in a moody, ominous vibe setting it apart. The museum is a good visit with kids, as they offer activities for younger children to do in between pieces, shown by a cute cartoon dog. The temporary “monsters of the sea” exhibition also doubles its purpose as a playground.
Modern place. Expected to be a city Life center soon
Very worthwhile and absorbing.
Very nice museum with nice models of boats. I recommend to see also Ice Breaker excursion.
Excelent museum for family. Kids really liked it.
