This quaint, old-timey market with gifts & a coffee shop also sells pastries, sandwiches & salads.
This place blew my mind. Full bakery, hot counter. preserves, clothing, and knick knacks. If you arrive before noon they usually have all there varieties available but by mid afternoon they are usually running low or out of a lot of items. They also have a breakfast menu. Their lunch menu has cold sandwhiches and hot homemade meals. The home made meals are warmed which you eat in the upstairs sitting area overlooking the store. They serve Texas Donuts which are like 5 times the size of a regular donut and taste so good. They have a variety of cakes, cupcakes, donuts, cookies, and baked goods. There is a large variety of preserves.
Great lunchtime stop! A large variety of homestyle Jams, Jellies, sauces, salsa and freshly baked goods.
The baked goods and most sandwiches are wonderful, but sadly because it’s become such a tourist draw, the hot sandwiches aren’t what they should be. The Chicken Parmesan sandwiches are pre made, microwaved and dry. Not at all what you’d expect from a good sandwich place, and definitely not the traditional saucy Italian classic.Stick with the other sandwiches and wraps and hope you don’t arrive right behind a bus tour. Although they did get the crowd through reasonably quickly. The cakes and other baked goods looked amazing. I tried the otter tail and it was delicious and easily large enough for 2 or 3 to share.
Theres something special about the Mariposa market. It has everything that you didnt know you were looking for and great coffee to go with it!The bakery, the staff and atmosphere help define this great hidden gem of a city!
I live in Orillia so I go to the market quite often. Lots of selection and great quality of food. The loss is a star is for the way the place is run during the weekends (especially in the Summernot enough staff, the place is an absolute zoo that lacks any direction for controlling lines. I sometimes walk in and turn around rather than try to get served and out the door in a timely manner. It can be so busy and chaotic it kicks off my anxiety lol jokes aside this establishment makes more than enough money to hire more staff so a planned visit doesn’t become an event.
The Food is not the best, although, the place looks very interesting with a unique view, the food could be much better. The portions are huge but tasted cement. Dont understand why there is such a big line. Do people not know that there exist better cafés? Wouldnt recommend.
We just went to Orillia for a fun day and we started our day in this beautiful bakery and coffee shop. Everything looks delicious we buy different desserts from donuts to muffins and of course their delicious cookie. We will return here for sure.
We loved visiting the Mariposa Market which was full of homemade desserts, a quaint restaurant, a fun toy filled room and seasons which contained lovely, unique gift ideas. Downstairs is Apple Annies where we were treated to a sample of delectable fudge! We bought some fudge to bring home as a souvenir. The market is a must visit in Orillia
Never disappointed! This place is a staple destination to Orillia. Food and desserts are absolutely delicious.
Recommended by a friend to visit. And I’ve been back several times. The jams and pickles are next level. I have taken them home to family as gifts and only heard positive reviews
We really loved this place. The toy section was a walk down memory lane. The bread and desserts are delicious. We bought several different sauces and they all taste really good. Definitely would recommend visiting.
I ordered a birthday cake for my husband and son. We asked for balloons on the cake and this is what they gave us.. Not impressed for $50. Kind of makes me think, with some of the crazy designs they have in their cake book how can they make those kind of cakes if they cant even draw balloons. I suggest not paying before they make the cake, and if they wont make the cake without payment first then just go elsewhere because that was a huge disappointment. Why they would let someone draw on a cake who clearly cant draw for sh!t is beyond me 🤣
I have now tried this place at least eight times. No denying, it is an interesting place with great food, especially desserts but boy oh boy, the management or ownership must be awful. Why? Because the staff is so unfriendly and act like they hate their jobs and would rather be anywhere else. I used to work as a server and in retail and my experience had been that if Frontline workers are that unhappy, it means the ownership and management don’t treat them very well.Don’t know the inside scoop here but the managers and owners here should pull up their socks. Now I get that it’s really busy with tourists etc. but that’s literally the bread and butter of this business .so you need to train your staff to smile a bit, to actually look customers in the eyes and say hello, at least pretend that they enjoy service work.I’ve given up, I would rather spend my money somewhere where people treat me well and the business seems to appreciate my loyalty.
This time I brought my husband. Mind. Blown. Happy belly. The sandwiches are soooo good. He had a heated beef crescent and was very happy. I hate cranberries so I ordered the cranberry with turkey wrap. It was so good - and now I like cranberries!
Stop by if youre in the area. Lots of sweets and desserts, but savoury options as well. The skor Texas sized doughnut has been the best doughnut Ive ever tried. There are lots of jams, cookies, sauces and other items. The old creaking floors add to the experience
Everything in this bakery is amazing and tasty, tons of options for lunch or to take home for dinner. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming theres definitely something for everyone to eat here. Definitely recommend
Meh... Its okay. The place does not live up to the reputation. I dont mind higher prices for a quality product but I was not impressed with what Mariposa Market produces. Ive been there four times over a few years out of convenience (or with someone else who is going anywayand I was never really impressed. Good, but not great.... and if you look around a bit you can find great.
A unique market showcasing a breathtaking array of handmade pastries, cakes, pies and breads, and various other household and other items, including clothing. Its fun to go through all items and enjoy their uniqueness. There is even siting space on the the top of section. Washrooms are exceptionally clean.
Amazing! I had trouble finding a place with availability to do a cake for my daughters first birthday. Mariposa was suggested to me and totally lived up to its word of mouth reputation! Not only did they do a completely custom cake, they were able to accommodate dairy and gluten intolerances which made sure all our guests could enjoy something. Words could not express enough how amazing the cake and cupcakes tasted and how perfect the design was. So absolutely happy, will be returning and highly recommend!
Best bakery ever! I am local and come here at least 4 time a month either for lunch or just product. My family comes in from all over the world and this is the first place that they want to go. I have never had anything negative to say until today! And this has nothing to do with product. I was in line this morning at the back of the store. It was not a busy day but it was steady. I got in line behind the people in front of me and proceeded to wait for my turn. Then a couple come in through the back door and jumped in line, ordered their food, and were receiving their food. I complained and was quickly dressed down by your employees. When while the line jumpers got their stuff, while people who lined up had to wait. The worst part was I got dressed down by your staff and the line jumpers were treated like gold. Something very wrong!!!!
Never have I ever left a bakery feel a bit of disappointment.,......until today. They do everything to perfection with a startling selection. Its been several hours since my visit and am still in a state of euphoric awe, while enjoying my tasty treats. I dont think I saw everything, so Im going back tomorrow.
We had fantastic sandwiches here today! They also have an excellent selection of pantry items.
SAUSAGE ROLL!!!We stopped in on our way home from The Rawley Resort in Port Servern. We picked up a Turkey Wrap with Cranberry Mayo and Shredded Cheese as well as a Sausage Roll 😋. SO GOOD. Also grabbed the Back Forty Roast Beef in a croissant... That Croissant was MEMORABLE. All buttery and covered in baked cheddar 🤤All of the above plus a tea and a bag of chips was about $35Go. Buy. Eat. Enjoy!!
Amazing bakery and shop! The Texas size donuts are worth it alone
The customer service is definitely a reason to make me want to revisit. Its super friendly and fast. I got the Texas Homer Donut and a mini carrot cake. They where delicious. My favorite place for a donut! I found the mini carrot cake a tad too sweet but I still obviously didnt mind as I ate both on my own in a single sitting.. Will be back for another donut and again will not be sharing.
Mariposa is always a great place to walk into the atmosphere is always positive and the staff are always very helpful and kind. The food is always amazing, they have sandwiches cookies, donuts, coffee tea and specialty drinks of all kind! Mariposa is a must visit place if youre in the area. It usually is fairly busy but the people are still always very kind and polite.
Amazing place. The food was great. The options are fantastic. Everything was clean and tidy. The customer service was fabulous. I highly recommend stopping in and tasting the variety of things. Love this hidden gem.
Absolutely disgusting. I got the blueberry cream cheese mini cake and never in my entire life have I had such an overly sweet dessert just after one bite. This place seems like it’s trying to make people diabetic or something. I know eating overly sweet stuff doesn’t automatically cause diabetes, but you get my point.
Definitely worth the stop. Lots of delicious baked goods to pick up and enjoy. Need to go early in the day, we went early afternoon on a Saturday and most of the treats were already sold out.Lots of fun stuff to buy, if you need a gift lots of great options to pick from.
A must to seeA must to visitAwesome FoodWell Worth the trip to visitOut of this world baking & preserves
Great store with so much variety. Lots of space to eat. Great variety of shopping. From Barrie and there is no store like it. There maybe be stores that exist like parts of Mariposa Market, but this is a one of a kind.A definite tourist stop if coming into Orillia.Great food. Enjoyed Moms meat pie and maple donut at last visit.
This is a must visit place in Orillia. We headed to the Farmers market but were not impressed but this place here is the real deal. It was busy but there is something for everyone. We had just had brunch but had to get a coffee and a treat. Latte and espresso with a cherry turnover and a packzy! They were delicious. We also got a lemon loaf, cornbread and some raisin biscuits! Lots to chose from and also nice souvenirs and gift store with unique items. I would love to be back.
This is such a cool place it has everything. The Chocolate Turtles Cake taste amazing!
Baked goods galore. This place is great for food, but dont go if youre on a diet. The cakes, donuts and deserts are outstanding. The staff are very friendly. We grabbed a couple sandwiches and coffee and headed up stairs to take in all that is Mariposa Market. We enjoyed our food while taking in the atmosphere. I cant go to Orillia and not stop by here. See you soon.
From all bakery I have been, this is one of my favorites in Ontario.Definitely a stop if you going to a party, friends or family gathering and want to impress. The building is more than 100 years old. They have ready to eat salty and sweet.Great bread options. The store is massive (walking around feels like there are 5 stores combined into one)Friendly staff. And you can find everything there from funny souvenirs and toys to frozen lasagna , unique homemade sauces, sandwiches and pies. The only downside is the gluten-free and vegan options. If you are under that restrictions you will be very limited.
Love this place. Best cookies ever. Especially the peanut butter ones. Sorry Mom, but Mariposas cookie are the best I have ever had.Great food selection and the bakery items are really to die for.The place has so much charm and character and the staff is really incredible.
Wow, definitely it is the best bakery that I visited in Canada. I was waiting for a long time to visit Mariposa Market. This place is way over my expectations. Everything is awesome there. The food is great, the price is fair and the people who work there are so kind.I loved the variety of sweets, cakes and sandwiches they have.I barely can wait for the next opportunity to come back and try other great donuts, cakes, sandwiches and so many things they have.It is definitely the best bakery I know so far in Canada. For everyone who is driving around Orillia region, go to visit Mariposa Market and enjoy all the good things you can find there.
Picked up some delicious Easter treats today. Aways delicious 😋
A very cute (but hugeplace if you are in/ heading to Muskoka, with wide variety of items ranging from sauce, jelly, spreads, cakes, pastries and breads. We tried quite a few things from fresh bakery items, along with coffee and all of them tasted pretty good. While we didnt get to try their tomato soup, but heard its a must try and they usually run out of it, before lunch time. This place also has a gift shop within the vicinity.
I always get my baked goods here, I love it. This morning I picked up a cake and got to chatting with the lovely, bubbly lady behind the counter. When I got home, I saw that she had taken the time to write "Happy Birthday Beautiful!" on my cake box. So thoughtful and precious- it made my day... My birthday, in fact!! Great staff!!
If youre ever looking for a quick and tasty meal, ready fast, served hot and at a great price then check out Mariposa Market. A great selection of hot and cold dishes and so many delicious treats.
Over the top huge donuts and amazing pastries! Wow, it was a treat to see this place in Orillia. Next time I will be getting lunch! They have breads, pastries, donuts, cakes, sandwiches, wraps, quiche, along with the side shops that have a ton of candies, cards, skin care, and novelties.
This place is beautiful! We received amazing service when we popped in on a Sunday morning for coffee and pastries. Everything we bought was so tasty, especially the cranberry pumpkin pecan muffin which was truly a thing of beauty. Two friends recommended Mariposa Market to us while we were in Orillia this weekend and I can totally see why. I’m so glad we checked it out.
Mariposa used to be a 5 of 5, but my last few visits from this summer have knocked it down to a 4. Everything here used to be bang on. Favorites included the cornbread and death by chocolate cake. My favorites are still there, but you can tell, especially in the corn bread, that things have taken a step back. The corn bread just isn’t the same as years past. Same thing with some of the prepared food. Naked egg omelette was just horrible, wired texture from over baking and way, way under-seasoned. Overall had no flavour and was bad enough I couldn’t finish it. DBC cake was still good, same with the Sheppard and beef pies…until next year Mariposa….
Love visiting this place, has something for everyone. So many delicious baked goods to choose from. Great spot to eat in and also perfect for taking things to go. I love their cakes for special occasions, the San Francisco Sourdough bread is amazing and their coconut macaroons are some of the best Ive ever had. Definitely check this place out if youre in the area.
A nice place to shop for local goods and souvenirs. Its tourist-oriented, so you will pay a bit of a premium, but hey, youre on vacation. Treat yourself!
We ordered a variety of tarts, cookies and brownies for dessert at our small backyard wedding and everything was so delicious! My maid of honour picked up the desserts for us and everything was ready to go at the time I had requested. I thought I had ordered too many, but there were none left at the end of the night! We received so many comments on how delicious everything was.
A very cute and colorful place with lots of sweets and baked goods. They also serve lunch items such as wraps, sandwiches, quiche, smoothies, tea, etc. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. A must visit if you are in Orillia.
This great bakery never disappoints. Every time I go in I always manage to come out with something. Even during the pandemic they offer a decent selection of food. Can’t think of anything I have not enjoyed. Their mini cakes are great.
Worth the drive! Packed with wonderful home-made and local foods, baked goods, treats and spreads. The decor and open concept market vibe was beautiful, and the place was well-staffed to ensure customers were serviced quickly and pleasantly. We had a San Francisco Baked Hot Dog, a Pulled Pork Sandwich, a Chicken Enchilada, and a BBQ Chicken sandwich. For dessert, a Blueberry Fritter, a Homer Donut, and an Eclair. All delicious, plentiful, and very fresh. We will be making this a weekly visit for sure.
