Classic brasserie fare on a renovated 1899 boat with elegant, wood-lined interior and marina views.
A warm welcome. Fantastic food. Friendly, charming service. We cant wait to return.
Absolutely perfect: thank you to all of the staff, what a team. Friendly, happy, attentive and relaxed. From booking, to arranging birthday table decorations, drinks, food and service ….. they didn’t put a foot wrong. The venue and atmosphere is superb. Thank you for a lovely evening, best service in Ipswich. We can’t wait to come back.
We had a wonderful meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Service was fantastic and would highly recommend their house champagne.
Very well appointed restaurant on a boat in Ipswich Marina. Food excellently prepared and absolutely delicious. Drinks very good. Service very good. Bill came quickly when requested. Its a very pleasant experience and Id definitely recommend. Its a bit pricey though - £40 each for main plus drinks.
A very nice restaurant. The staff couldnt be more helpful. They all made a point of rotating through the tables and made sure everyone was well looked after. The food was lovely.
Part of the water front development, this barge based restaurant might have issues with disabled clients, but it was a very well developed facility. Food was excellent, although robust pricing for some items.Wine list was extensive and colleagues thought it good quality. I stuck with low alcohol beer from the local brewery and I was content.Service was attentive without being oppressive, one request for a refill required a reminder, but that is a minor quibble.
Amazing day out and lunch! We try different restaurants but this one was unique!!!Never forget the look and the taste🥰🥰🥰
Lovely food, beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff.
We arrived at around 8pm on a Friday, but were accommodated outside due to a fully booked dinner service and after some bread and wine, were served a delicious 3 course set menu.Food was tasty, staff are some of friendliest and accommodating I’ve met and the waterfront setting is amazing. My first visit, but I will be back!
Oddly interesting, or interestingly odd menu. A weird mish-mash of different styles and flavours which seems to work. For example, chicken satay with a naan bread and an arancini ball. Sounds odd, is odd, tastes great. Super staff and super location and ambiance.
A group of four of us who were sailing got a late (9pmbooking on a Saturday. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice on the à la carte menu. A great wine list too. It was busy but the waiting staff were attentive and very friendly. The setting was great and everything was ‘ship shape’! At around £50 per head, including wine and drinks, it was really good value too.
Absolutely amazing ! Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was fabulously presented but tasted even better than it looked if that’s at all possible !!! The sunset view just added to a fabulous meal !!!
Good location and food. We sat outside in the warm weather which was lovely...inside has a nice ambience too. Had the jackfruit starter and the mixed seafood for main which was enjoyable. Only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars was the staff were not attentive and we struggled to call them over throughout the meal. Though they were very pleasant and helpful when they did come to the table.
Excellent Sunday lunch, good value and variety on all courses. Pleasant staff and service.
Very average experience. Prices are too high for the service you get. The reception was fine. The interior and the fact that you are on a real ship is great, but although my wife ask for her dish to be without onion, the starter was brought with onion. The restaurant manager kindly apologise and change the dish. Then come the main. Again No onion, please. It was served with onion again. I ordered lamb. The waiter told me that normally comes pink, so I asked to be well cooked, but my lamb still came pink. For the prices they ask you to pay, surely they could listen to what you order.
The service, meals and staff were all excellent. We were a large group and we were looked after really well. Highly recommend a visit
A couple of recent visits unfortunately none without fault but it was always a favourite place but now quite disappointed. Booked a table for 6 people previously and always used to love and rave about the chicken satay starter..flavour wise still good as is the aranchini ball but it didnt used to have soooo many whole peanuts in..its changed but personally for me not for the better. The Fish cake still as good as it was. When our steak arrived it looked amazing and the chips excellent.. but the steak was completely cold. We sent it back.. with an apology.. and that new ones would come back.. understandably other people on the table tucked in whilst we waited. When the new steaks arrived they were actually the same steaks reheated but with new chips. We knew they were the original steaks sent back due to the small pieces we cut off/tried before sending back. Whilst I totally appreciate why they wouldnt cook brand new ones they shouldnt have said theyd cook new ones. To make it worse they gave my steak to other person on our table and their steak to me.. not ideal. That said the returned steaks once swapped and with their original owners did taste great. We all ordered dessert and the chocolate fondant whilst lovely and per the menu would take time took about 45 minutes... others waited for theirs and unfortunately when the fondant arrived they completely forgot to bring one.. which was simply the cognac ice-cream... we had to ask.. it was then brought over. The chicken main dish on offer was excellent .. crispy skin a wing, breast and great flavours.Kindly the supplements for both steaks were taken off the bill £6 and one dessert which based on the set menu equated to £2. We paid and did leave a tip as eventually what we had was good..Return trip.. Monk fish in curried batter, scraps and peas.. really very nice.. then came the roast beef.. the worst roast Ive ever had.. the beef was supposed to be medium rare..it was light brown/beige. the gravy... No idea what it was... gloopy and pink and no flavour whatsoever.. soft and chewy roast potatoes, the Yorkshire pudding whilst very dry had a great taste.. as did the whole carrot, the green beans were squeaky on the teeth and the cabbage watery.. the addition of salt and pepper and horseradish sauce didnt really help it in anyway shape or form..I did eat the beef Yorkshire carrot and 2 potatoes... but honestly have to say I didnt enjoy it at all.. my husband had the satay as a main and did like it, but the addition of extra peanuts doesnt bother him..We did go for dessert.. my husband had the coconut aranchini which we had previously and enjoyed both times. Mango flavours and pineapple.I had the pistachio Paris Brest. The pistachio ice cream on the plate was really very good the choux bun crispy and cream raspberries nice. When the bill arrived the bottle of wine was missing.. we are honest people and advised the waitress who was thankful for our honesty as well as mentioning the disappointment of the main.. the revised bill including the wine was returned and we settled for £93..The let down for me both times was the Main as the name suggests its the main event of a meal.. flavour and cooking wise for the roast.. and the incorrect temperature of the steak along with mixing up and giving meals already part eaten to different people.Reviews are subjective and dependent on what you chose.. my husband would rate both visits as a 4 whereas my experience is a 2 hence the 3 rating..
Food was absolutely delicious, lovely atmosphere and staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend and come here again!
Had a fantastic 3 course set meal, all six of us had different meals and all had excellent quality, great tasting food served brilliantly by friendly and efficient staff…..well done Mariners team 👍
Great ambience eating on an old gunboat. Food very good. Not rushed by the staff - service a tad laid back. Let down by (lack of knowledge of waitress : asked for description of Adnams Ghost Ship and was told it was a dark beer, a bitter. Pressed she said it wasnt a lager but a dark bitter. Today I checked, and Ghost Ship is a Pale Ale which I would have ordered and would have been so much better than what I actually drank. Why not also offer Shipyard IPA, at least the waitress wouldnt need to be trained in the difference between IPA, Bitter, Ale and Lager ?
The crab & prawn taco is something else, if I never had anything else to eat again after having the taco I wouldnt mind.
Good ambiance, great food!
Our first visit to Mariners left us very impressed. The vessel was well presented with the staff being pleasantly helpful and efficient. My starter of salmon treated with Calvados, capers was interestingly pleasant. The main course, Fish Skewer, was a triumph of presentation and taste. Sadly none of our group had room for a dessert, which gives me the perfect excuse of willingly returning another day to try that part of the menu too. Recommend Mariners, well worth a visit.
Second time visiting this evening. Service is quick and food was delicious once again cant fault anything at all. Id recommend the sirloin steak or the sea bass. Will be returning 100% 😀😎
Unique experience to dine on this old boat which has been converted to a fine dining restaurant quay side in the historic Ipwhich docks precinct. Food was superb.
Great food, service excellent.
Three of us ate an early dinner here on a weekday evening. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was simply fabulous with a wonderful attention to detail, delicious flavour combinations and skillful execution. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our visit; heartily recommended!
Lovely food great service nice experience having a meal on a boat
Great food, hospitality and ambiance.Nice and warm and happy atmosphere. Went here for late mothers Day celebration. Views over marina good. Aesthetics great. Staff approachable and well humoured. Soundtrack and system in good taste and contemporary.Been here before, will also come again
A totally pleasant dining experience. The service was friendly and without fault, the food was well presented, well cooked and very tasty. My only criticism concerns my table. The deck of the boat curves (as many decks doso my table at the edge of the deck was sloping very noticeably to one side. Something a couple of blocks would sort out easily.
Visited mid week in Feb, pleasantly busy, friendly and knowledgeable staff who were able to recommend wine to match the food & an excellent whisky at the end of the meal for my husband. Food was delicious and the flavours especially the salad with the seared tuna were amazing. Excellent food for a fair price, highly recommended.
Nice place. Theyve converted the interior of the shipminto the restaurant but its done in a nice way.The food is of a decent standard without being ridiculous in price. Try the scallops and the pork, beautifully cooked!
Busy place, some interesting dishes. Had the bruschetta followed by seafood platter (hung on a skewerand a pint colada pud. Nice view over the marina and great service. Parked over the road a short walk away. All in all very good.
Absolutely incredible never tasted food like the fondant biscoff centre nicest thing I’ve ever eaten if I could give this place 10 stars I would definitely recommend. The price as well I’ve spent more on absolute trash at KFC unreal anyway never mind for the price believably good.
I really want to give 5 stars as this restaurant should easily get 5 however just a couple of things. I did as requested and booked a table and they stated that they were full at the time i had asked. I was happy to move time so i we were there at half 6. No problem. The restaurant was empty and the table that was provided was directly under the bar.... When i say under the bar i mean UNDER the bar. Im extremely easy going and i though live with it. So i now know all that the staff are doing in the next few weeks coming up. I mean come on...There is people eating !!! I paid a good amount for the meal and i wanted to really love it. That was not one thing. LOOK around staff and just think. The scallops for starters were not 100% fresh. Now scallops are very light in flavour when fresh these were extremely strong. This Im hoping was the fish supplier, not the restaurant. Well the chef would of tell. The main course was outstanding like the service. Everything was lovely. The location was beautiful and the staff tried very hard but Im afraid if you are asking good prices then i expect a lot more. Its such a shame as this experience should of been out of this world. I will try again maybe. See how i feel as well as the future reviews.
Amazing place. The staff were on point knew the menu and very good at helping out on the wine. Good serve times and the food was amazing ! Highly recommend and not to expensive.
Delicious food, a great view and lovely staff. It was a perfect location for our anniversary meal, we will be back!
Brilliant. Dropped in without reservation. 3 course set meal for £23. Excellent experience
Lovely food and great service.
Mother took us to the Mariners for my Birthday. It was a lovely day. We were looked after by the well trained obliging hard working staff. The food and the service was exceptional..prices were responsible for both the three and two courses. We opted for two. Amazing food cooked to a high standard. Highly recommended and wouldnt hesitate to go again sometime.
Lovely view and yummy food. Cant ask for more. The service was great too!
Lovely restaurant on an old boat. Decor is nice and the deck is lovely to sit on when sunny. The set menu is very good value for money. I had seafood skewer which was delicious and my partner steak which was HUGE but a little cold unfortunately. The waiters and chef provided the most excellent service though and insisted it was absolutely no trouble to swap it. Food is fresh great quality and tastes delicious. Drinks were good too and reasonably priced. The starters are excellent value at only £3!!!!! Eat here.
Stunning food at great value. 3 courses for only £24. The quality of the food was world class. The service was amazing. The place has a lovely view over the docks.
Great destination for on the water dining on Ipswich. The Beef Wellington and Beef Brisket mains were perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine prices were easy on the wallet as well, along with a full bar menu. Compliments to the chef and great waitstaff.
Went here for work Christmas meal and the food was excellent. If youre upstairs, the stairs are a bit steep and the queue for the toilets can get a bit cosy, there is a slight lean to everything but its part of the charm. Well worth a visit.
I had dinner with the girls last weekend. The boat itself is stunning as is the decor and ambiance. The service was exceptional. I was let down by the food though. My haddock fishcake was quite nice but no better than the ones I buy from lidl. I had the lamb for main. The meat itself was delicious and cooked to perfection. The dauphinois was dry and completely overpowered with garlic. I couldnt taste the potato or the cream. I would have preferred actual mint sauce or jelly rather than the pea mousse which tasted like mushy peas. The bakewell tart had very over baked pastry. The food didnt match up to the price. Also it was freezing in the boat. Some heating would have been ideal.
6 of us dined here on 2.4.19 for my Mums 65th Birthday. She flew over from Spain especially for this occasion so wanted to make it memorable. With her younger years of working on cruise ships I thought that the Mariners would be the perfect setting. And it was.... Excelled itself in everyway possible. Service 1st class, Staff 1st class, Fine Dining , Food absolutely beautiful, Affordable..Im amazed how cheap it was. Well cooked, Well presented. Caters for parties, top and bottom deck available. Personally met the chef afterwards and thanked him for our meal. Looking forward to Date Night now with my Man 12.2.19
Ok so bad points first ... We booked 3 weeks in advanced . When we arrived there was no confirmation of our booking so we had a bit of a make shift table next to the bar .... Music in this restaurant is all over the show one moment it was Robbie Williams rock DJ too some type of Spanish salsa dance .... But apart from this the food was absolutely exceptional by far some of the best food I have tasted .. presentation was brilliant and the staff was friendly and helpful with food and wine recommendation ....Set along side the waterfront and within a boat which gives this place its piece of character would definitely visit again ..
Absolutely amazing! Came here today for lunch and got the set menu. 2 courses for £14.95 and had the Camembert to start and steak for main! Highly recommend!! Really good service, very well looked after and they did everything they could. Also found out that they are starting a Sunday lunch menu so will definitely be coming here again! AMAZING 😉
Restaurant set on a boat and not a great deal more to say. The food was quite nice but the portions were pretentious to the point of the rabbit dish came with what I can only assume was one spoonful of mash (see pics). The quay was very very still like a mill pond and this only seemed to stop all the rubbish being washed away from around the quayside of the boat and jetty. The boat itself need a damn good scrub on the outside however the inside was quite clean. Staff were friendly and on the ball but I dont think Ill be back anytime soon.
