Staff very attentive and explained everything well but the food I ordered was just average. I got the lamb in the broth. I ordered spicy but it was hardly spicy and needed salt. The garlic naan was good. Also for some reason Google told me this was Thai food so when we got there it was a surprise lol

Re the English name " marigold". The marigold flower has huge cultural significance in the Indian religion. Its also called the herb of the sun and adds great auspiciousness to weddings and any festivity. Hence the restaurant is named marigold which I think is very appropriate.

Food was good but for Indian standard a bit bland on the spice. Service excellent, prices compared to Cape town very high.

Went for lunch on our 1 year wedding anniversary. We got bubbly on arrival and the experience was special. We had starters, a thali each and desserts. The service was exceptional and the restaurant is cozy, warm and perfect for winter.

It was nice overall experience. The food however, lacked adaquate seasoning and the VA-VA voom that indian quisine usually offers. We sat outside and it was a lovely atmosphere. There are blankets provided to keep you warm if you sit out.

Wow. What an absolutely overrated place. Food portions in the thali is borderline robbery. So sad that the only Indian place is so average

I have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants around the world. This is one of the best Ive ever been to. The Rogan Josh had lamb falling off the bone. The butter chicken was wonderfully rich without being overwhelming (like so many are). The breads (I think the true measure of all Indian restaurantswere exceptional. The roti was the perfect consistency and impressively thin. The layers in the paratha were expertly prepared and cooked. Well done Marigold!

Wonderful service and very tasty food. the tika massala and butter chicken were good, but the highlight was the black dal. Service was excellent. With a bottle of wine and tip, we spent 950 rand for dinner for two. Highly recommend.

Brilliant curry and great service (the wine was excellent too!)We hadnt finished our first course before my wife started suggesting we book in again next week, thats how good this place is! The food was great, smaller portion sizes than usual but fine for us, and the lamb was a little over cooked but still nice. The sauces though were some of the best wed tasted. The photo is of a non vegetarian and vegetarian thali.

Good Indian food (Even though the name is English, which threw me off. They have vegetarian. Make sure you reserve your table, as it can get busy during the holiday. Staff are helpful. It is slightly expensive, so make sure you are willing to pay more than 150 for your food - without drink. Its right next an art gallery and a chocolate shop.Overall it was worth it, would recommend.

Wow what fantastic food! The dishes were so flavorful. The standout dish for me was the butter chicken. The samoosa starter is exceptional. If in Franshoek and you can get a table then this is a must.

A warm welcome was appreciated to this modern chic Indian eatery. To start, every table is served fresh papadum with tamarind and mint chutney. We ordered both of the salad options (each have a backbone of cucumber), a vegetarian tandoori platter and butter chicken. All of our food was fresh and for the most part delicious. Both salads could use a more salt/pepper/seasoning (the table is devoid of all such accoutrements).$50 USD for all this, including a large bottle of still water and the tip isnt bad.

Seriously such an unpleasant welcome. We had a booking for 19:30 and arrived at 19:15. Only to be told by the hostess that we are 45min late. Turns out the hostess was wrong and didn’t even apologize. She then told us that she can’t help it if the service is late to serve us. We were really looking forward to spending our anniversary dinner there. Instead we had a platter and decided to move else where. Beautiful setting and the platter was good but if you want the warm Franschhoek welcome them Marigold is most definitely not the place.

Expected a lot more from this restaurant, especially from the main dishes. My family and I visited recently and asked for a paneer tikka masala and were informed that this could be done. When the bill arrived- they had charged R135 PLUS and additional R100 for this dish. No Indian restaurant charges that much for paneer- that’s even more expensive than chicken! Other than this, we had a decent experience, but would not go back again as there are plenty of wonderful Indian restaurants in the Southern Suburbs with delicious food and do not kill you with their prices.

Top marks to the Marigold for excellent contemporary Indian food and service that is normally only found at the worlds top restaurants but at a more affordable level. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed an evening meal here in October, 2017 whilst attending a friends wedding in Franschhoek. We both chose the vegetarian thali, which delighted across the range of curries, savoury and sweet katoris. Although not usually a highlight, the raitha was a standout accompaniment with a wonderful light zing to it.I believe that the restaurant had only opened a couple of months before our visit. It is owned by Mr Aniljeet Singh, who also owns the five star Leeu across the Hugeuenot Road. Although the external architecture is modest, the interior design is warm and welcoming with a comfortable connection with the outside. We were extremely pleased to meet head chef Vanie Padayachee, who is an outstanding talent and we are sure will be destined for much success. Bravo to both Aniljeet and Vanie.

Lovely Indian food. Nice contrast to the fine dining scene in Franschhoek, as good non-fine dining options are a bit limited here. Ate here a couple of times during our week as it was a nice contrast to the fine dining lunches we enjoyed.

FOOD POISONINGMy girlfriend and I were enjoying our last 3 days of vacation in South Africa and were recommended this restaurant.Within an hour of finishing our dinner we were both suffering from aggressive diharrea and vomiting which lasted all night. We had to go to the doctor in the morning to take injections to stop the vomitting and took a bunch of medication (anti bacterials and anti parasiteand were suffering with this for 2 full days. Took us more than a week to get back to a normal digestion. This really ruined our vacation. I would avoid this restaurant.P.s. they did refund my dinner (~$35the next day. But still ruined my vacation

Paid an impromptu visit. Beautiful location and decor. Food good, but there are better Indian food in greater Cape Town. The pricing vs. portion sizes reflects what Franschoek eateries have turned into. R155 for butter chicken with 5 deboned cubes. R155 for 4 deboned cubes of tandoori chicken tika. Since I love Indian food, I am letting my tastebuds get the better of me and add a 4th ☆

A lovely restaurant nice settings and ambience, good unhurried service. Food and drinks excellent, they serve the South African version of Indian food which is full of wonderful flavours but not as much chilli heat as you get in UK. Would definitely recommend.

RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE DAY MARIGOLD RESTAURANTS THALI STOLE MY HEART!I am a foodie of note, which you would know if you are a regular follower of my blog. Working in social media means that I am constantly exposed to the newest, best and brightest of everything. While few things capture my eye, a good restaurant or a travel deal are guaranteed to knab my attention within seconds. So when the new restaurant called Marigold launched in Franschoek I was intrigued, to say the least, there were gorgeous images splashed across Facebook and Instagram and I started to have some serious #fomo ... yes, for reals. It was then that Marigold Restaurant progressed to my #2018 wishlist without hesitation. Marigold is housed in Heritage Square and complements the Leeu Collection hospitality portfolio. These past holidays I made a lunch date with a long-time friend who lives in Franschoek, and the two of us toddled along for lunch at Marigold Restaurant. My Marigold Restaurant ExperienceBeing an authentic Indian restaurant Marigolds serve truly unique Indian dishes which you may struggle to find elsewhere. The tone is immediately set once you enter the quaint venue which seats a maximum of 60 people. The decor is rich in metals and warm tones all speaking to the namesake and inspiration of marigolds which are a vibrant orange. The tables are beautifully set and arranged so as to get as much intimacy and privacy for the individual tables, as you can within the confines such a small space. The beautifully screened windows are not only decorative but filter the bright light coming in, and they once again add to the rooms beauty and ambience. The problem is where to start on the menu? We thats easy, start with the #Thali. What is Thali you may ask?“Thali” is a composite and wholesome meal with various small portions served on one platter. The idea behind the Thali is to offer all the various flavours of Indian kitchen – sweet, salty, spicy, crispy and sour.A Thali feastAt Marigold it is offering of what our chef likes the best and was a composite of the following:Vegetarian - R280- One vegetarian Indian street food- One vegetarian tandoori starters- One vegetarian main dish- One Basmati Rice- One Dal Preparation- One Salad- One Yoghurt- One tandoori naan- One dessertNon-vegetarian - 320- One non-vegetarian Indian street food (fish goujons)- One non-vegetarian tandoori starters (tandoori chicken)- One non-vegetarian main dish (lamb kebab)- One Basmati Rice- One Dal Preparation (we had yellow dal)- One Salad- One Yoghurt (Raita)- One tandoori naan- One dessert (yoghurt khulfi ice-cream lollie)While the servings may look meagre to the naked eye, I promise you that you will be busting at the seams once you have finished your Thali."The individual dishes are flavour filled and a virtual feast for the senses whilst the khulfi cleanses the pallet and leaves you feeling refreshed."The waitrons are so efficient, maybe a little too serious but Sive our waiter was all that you would expect from a fine-dining establishment (he did smile for his photo). The uniforms are reminiscent of a bygone Victorian era and very impressive.All-in-all from the food, the presentation the beautiful venue it is a dining experience to beat, and I will definitely be back to sample the normal menu and once again tantalise my taste buds.BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL!

This has now become my go to Indian Food Restaurant in the Western Cape. Starters were fantastic, hard to believe we didnt have meat given the textures and the flavours. Main course I went with the Mutton Rogan Josh and I like it spicy so HOT it was. Starters we went the sharing root and not so much on the main course except the odd sharing of a fork. Loved the food and paired well with the Chenin Blanc from their sister establishment, a wine farm Im the Swartland.
