Colorful, laid-back eatery with a bar, outdoor seating & menu of Mexican favorites.
If you leave these guys a bad review, you can go back to the stuck-up neighborhood in CA you came from and dont come back . Good food , friendly folks, eh ... Hawaii prices. Dont know what the vegan chic & guy who said they add the tip in the bill are complaining about - both FAKE NEWS. Had the shrimp cocktail & some mahi tacos , shrimp excellent, tacos decent. Neat spot by the bay with a balcony, surprisingly good mai thai . Love the way the owner tells off whiney reviews on gmaps. Dont change a thing amigos, Margarito es el jefe numero uno 👍
Very good Mexican food! Esp if youre vegetarian. We had the veg buritto (good), veg fajitas (okay), jalapeño poppers (okay& curly fries (really good). Best Mexican food on the island.
I had a bean and cheese burrito smothered in chili verde. It was EXCELLENT! My husband had the spinach enchiladas that were also excellent and very unique. They used fresh ingredients which is a necessity for me. Super happy we found this place!
Its okay. The shrimp in chorizo was spicy to the point that my face went numb, and the shrimp still needed shelling, which was weird for something that is essentially stewed. Probably great for some, just not me.Warning - they include their own tip when they present the bill, and then double dip when paying on a card, asking for another tip. Thats unacceptable. A tip is for me to decide on their service (which was good), and the food, which was mixed - the rest of our party had fajitas, which looked great.Overall, it was okay, but I didnt appreciate how they automatically chose their own tip amount - thats one star less on principle.
Great Mexican food and margaritas with a beautiful view from the outdoor patio. Always a must go when visiting Kauai.
Food was pretty good but the waitress who served us was unattentive. We got better service from the kind busboy who took our dinnerware, refilled my drinks, and brought us more chips.
Great authentic Mexican food. If you like HOT sauce ask for la diabla sauce. Service is always friendly. Great location. For those of you who ever have a concern that Mariachis is from a can or something else. Go try and talk to the cooks I bet unless you speak Spanish you wont get too far. Yes real authentic Mexican food in Hawaii, dont be surprised. Enjoy the great location, food and people!
Slow service and mediocre food.As with most mexican restaurants, they brought some complimentary chips and salsa. Tiny little basket for four of us and they charged $6 for a second basket. Wont be back here again ever.
Great service, food and drinks. Last minute accommodated our party of 14. Actually open during posted business hours. Lol
Great service, kind staff, delicious food. We are very familiar with Mexican food due to the area in which we live, and this hit the spot. My only complaint is that we ate here on our last day of vacation. I wish we would have eaten here sooner so we could go back multiple times.
Mariachi’s is always on our list when we’re visiting Kauai. Our whole family likes the food, the service is good and it’s in a great location. For lunch today our teenagers said their food was better than eating at Duke’s last night (they all had filet at Duke’s and steak fajitas here)!
Had dinner here with drinks and some wine probably came closer to $50 per person food was excellent the service was very good. 4 days later return for breakfast on our departure morning the food was great the young lady that served us was a local, working multiple jobs and she was outstanding breakfast 20 bucks a person will return very good place to eat.
Way over priced for sub par (at bestfood $11 for “cheese dip” that is not queso Blanco. Guac is awful and slimey. Go somewhere else or go hungry.
Great service. Food was good. Mole was spicier than expected. Good view!
Great place near the Sonesta Resort. The breakfast is particularly great. The in-house made hot sauce has a wonderful flavor and decent bite.
Great service, delicious food, amazing location, and their coffee, I mean, just their regular, black coffee, was FANTASTIC! We were super impressed with this place and recommend it for anyone in the area craving authentic Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price. 😁👍
Had Mariachis twice on our trip- once for a late lunch and again for breakfast. Its pretty much what you would expect- food was pretty good (particularly the breakfast burritoand service was friendly. Has a nice view from the patio. Prices are far higher than you would expect- but that is par for the course in Kauai.
Good food. Wish had more spice. Was not as authentic as it claims. Seemed like most the food was from a can or premade and made bland enough for most people to like it. However from someone who sees the sign authentic Mexican to come in and get canned nacho cheese and not as fresh made and the salsa tasted like ketchup .. staff was really slow and to be honest seems to be not in the happiest.
Another pleasant experience at Mariachis. As always the staff is pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. The prices are good especially considering it is a strong tourist zone. The portions are perfect and well done. The flavors are much more authentic than your typical Mexican restaurant. A± for this place!
Had the beef ranchero burrito. The burrito was good, nothing special compared to avalerage mainland Mexican food. I had a pomegranate juice with it. I would have preferred the juice colder but I cant complain that I got more without the ice.My wife had the carnitas tacos, she thought they were good. Nothing near authentic tacos of Southern California. The kids mostly ate their food. I snagged some curly fries off the boys plates, and ended up finishing my daughters rice and beans.I wish they didnt offer fries for kids meals, I would prefer they just served rice and beans to kids, thats why Im at a Mexican restaurant.
The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was very helpful and attentive. We had salsa and chips, guacamole, tacos (both crunchy and soft), flautas, ceviche, a quesadilla and a burrito…they were all excellent. I was surprised to read someone thought the food was tasteless… for us, everything was so fresh and flavorful. We would be delighted to eat here any time!
Worst service and server Ive had in years. Seemed irrated and impatient that we were even at his table. Asked for a different beer than what he gave me and he was extremely rude and put off by the request. We paid for our drinks and left without ordering. Went next door to Lilikois and had a great dinner with outstanding service. Dont waste your time with Mariachis in Lihue.
We were seated right away which was nice. It took a while to get menus. A sever asked my husband what he wanted to drink & decided that’s what it would be for the both of us?? I ordered a drink with another server and they never brought it out. We finished our meal and I asked the server if she could bring my drink - they didn’t have it which is fine, but they should let us know so I can order something else. The place seems nice but it’s overpriced and I’m very disappointed by the customer service. And for some reason they were playing jazz music? lol Also the food had almost no flavor.
My husband and I went to Mariachis tonight to have a margarita and check out the menu. We planned on eating there tomorrow. When we got there, I asked if we needed to wait to be seated since we were just having a margarita. He said yes. After we were seated, the waiter didnt understand my husband telling him no salt on the margaritas so I repeated the order and the waiter asked me to tone it down. He acted extremely rude and disrespectful of women. We will never go there again based on this incident.
I like Mariachis very much. Is an authentic mexican restaurant, so all the traditionals dishes can be found here. Their menu is large, including mole. The stuff is super friendly, most of them speak spanish. I got the mix ceviche. The portion is very generous, the fish is sea bass (top qualityperfect for ceviche. I totally recomend this place.
This was a cute little restaurant overlooking the ocean. I dont recommend the shrimp tacos
This is good Mexican probably 5 star for Kauai. Fun place, good drinks and large ones. Food is well prepared. Free parking lot. Nice covered deck seating area and indoor dining with lots of air flow. Some TVs. 2nd level of building up stairs I think there is an elevator.Credit cards ok. Restroom.
The view is great. Margaritas are alright. Understaffed. Refilled drinks while we waited two hours for our food. Apologized and brought the meal. Decent. Then took 45 minutes to return the check after handing over the credit card. Beware.
Chain Mexican restaurant in Hawaii, if you have a craving for some fish tacos. The guac was pretty good. The outside patio has some nice views…
Great atmosphere customer service PinaColada and da Loco Moco was foof delish.Homemade gravy. Highly recommend this place
Summary: Not good Mexican if youre veganService: the servers we all really nice and attentive as well as accommodating to the whole vegan thing.Ambience: typical bright Mexican joint with nice seating. Definitely one of the larger places in town with decent operating hours.Food: unfortunately, after all those positives... the food was pretty terrible. The beans and rice were unseasoned with salt, pepper, any spice. The salsa was definitely not fresh and tasted more like canned tomato paste that was watered down. They gave us a total of two tortillas for our veggie fajitas. The guac was really just mashed avocado with no seasoning as well. Lastly, the veggie fajitas were really undercooked (crunchy), oily, and unseasoned again. I dont know if it is because Kauai is mainly a destination for old, rich, mayonnaisey white people with no cultured taste buds and therefore Mariachis makes its food for the average Wonderbread eater, but for us, it just wasnt really edible.Coming from Florida, traveling to the South West, we know good Mexican and this was not it.
Everyone was very friendly! However, the starter chips are saltless and salsa is weak - with a $3 refill fee. We ordered two drinks and my girlfriend got the wrong drink - not even close on the menu to the one she wanted. The taco salad was appropriately portioned and tasted okay, as were the enchiladas. All in all, an okay experience, but not great.
Great Mexican food. Service is amazing great atmosphere. Try the micheladas they are thirst quenching. Aguachiles are amazing. Great ocean view.
Decent selection of good and hearty Mexican food with cocktails and beer that fit every taste. Welcome affordable prices.
This place did not disappoint. After a long day of touring around, my family and I were looking for a place were we could sit and eat. The food and service was really good. They greeted us and made us feel at home. Will definitely keep this place in mind for the next time. The view was my favorite part !
probably the best Mexican food in the island. Gets busy so plan ahead. There are two locations.
Good service & food. We got there just before closing time, but they seated us and food came fairly quickly as well. Not sure it compares to the best Mexican food in San Diego, but we enjoyed it. We got the chicken fajitas (came only with 2 tortillasand fish tacos. The grilled version was good, but the deep fried one wasnt great.
I gave them 4 stars because the fish taco was tasteless and the fish looks like it flew by. The ceviche was good and try to take advantage of the happy hour because it is a bit expensive for the amount of food they serve. The service was fine and the table we chose gave us a beautiful view of the beach.
There are so many Mexican restaurants where Im from, thats probably why I was so disappointed in the food here. It was barely mediocre. Although the setting is super cool and chill, the food let me down big time. Maybe its an unfair expectation. I mean, Hawaii is the most isolated place on the planet. Can I expect them to have good Mexican food? I think I should be able to. $5 for a small basket of stale chips and salsa didnt sit well with me either. For sure wont return when we come back to Kauai. Sorry Mariachis.
Not you cookie cutter Mexican. Fantastic guacamole on my crunchy carne asada tacos. Things are finally starting to open and it appears they made it through. The photos are the view from the deck.
Im writing this review after enjoying 3 mojitos. My friends had many many, many beers and we enjoyed eating & drinking from the open lanai where I could watch the longboard surfers in Nawiliwili bay. Not withstanding that it has been the only happy hour Ive tried while visiting Kauai, it was by far the best happy hour. Theres 8-10 items on the discounted food menue from 3-5 daily & I can recommend the quesadillas & been dip.
Came to Kauai on our honeymoon and it happened to be torrential down pours while we were there, so woke up early and was happy to see this Mexican restaurant was open at 7AM. Delicious breakfast burrito and a pitcher of Margarita can solve all rainy day blues 🤪 definitely visit this place, good food, good drinks and AWESOME hot sauce if that’s what you’re into. Especially if in the Marriot, it’s close proximity.
Ill give it five stars. Im from Texas and the food here is as good as Tex-Mex I can get back at home for the price! And I got a lot of food!! Service was excellent.
Overcharged. Seems petty but one penny on the bill if charged on every customer and every bill adds up. The food was 3 star but the girl pictured was slow in service but the bus’s boy and guy that greeted was great! The food was OK, the drinks were OK, they charge $2.00 extra to substitute guacamole for chicken for the vegetarian with us. What’s with that??One penny Times hundred of bills every month or day🤔
We enjoyed both the Chimichanga and Enchiladas de Camerjo and the Lava Flow and Modelo Especial for Happy Hour. Great atmosphere! Good time!
Wow, wow, wow! All I have to say! My husband and I go here every Friday for lunch. Been to Mexico many times, Cancun, Rosarito, and TJ. I have to say... mariachis is still better then any food I’ve had over there! I get the fajitas and my husband gets the mole. Food is never bland, always the best spices. If you are on the healthier side they do have great salads, I get the chicken salad and add avocado. They add a Mexican spin to it.
We had marisco al mojo de mojo ( buttered mahi mahi with rice n sweet cornand fries during lunch time.My expectations were high for mahi mahi but a little bit disappointed. The food tasted average. Fries were good though. Prices were reasonable. Restaurant is at a good location and has good ambiance. Service was good.
I liked atmosphere in the store! Very colorful, open, and merry store with friendly staffs. It was like Mexico and I forgot I was on Kauai.
I ordered the giant margarita and tacos. My husband got the shrimp taco bowl salad. Everything was amazing and our server Victor was pleasant and helpful. Loved the freshly made tortilla shells!! Reasonably priced and quick service.
I had the nachos on happy hour for seven dollars and it was very tasty came with chicken guacamole sour cream chips and salsa refried beans. It was very simple yet tasty order. I also had a happy hour margarita and that was very good also. Saw some other good items on the happy hour menu I would recommend them for lunch dinner or happy hour.
