Maria bonita restaurant cafe & grill in Tamuin

We had a birthday dinner and everything was delicious! Our waiter was very nice. Just wish we could have seen the mariachis! Fajitas wre tender and flavorful. Sides were hot and fresh tasting. The place was busy but they were handling it well.

We had cheese enchiladas with puffy taco and beef enchiladas with beef fajita everything was very good, especially the beef fajita. That fajita was one of top three I have tried in SATX. Service was very good. Also had strawberry frozen margarita which was darn good. Live mariachi Wednesday evening; not my thing but they sounded good to me. I found everything well worth the price.

Tacos are excellent here! I have been here on more than 5 occasions for tacos to go. I cant comment on the other plates at this time but the service has been great. The restaurant looks great on the inside too.

Its my 1st time here. Dont expect to find Mexican food on the menu. This place is 100% Tex-Mex but more Tex tho. I ordered a bowl of pozole on a Sunday during brunch. I was disappointed to see that it didnt come with its traditional toppings (if you know, you know). It only came with a pinch of cabbage and two tostadas. The pozole itself was good, the pork was very tender. I had to ask for limes. The coffee was great, smooth and strong! The mimosa was on point, really good. The server let is know that she was new yet she did a good job attending to my party. I may come back for brunch again but just to have a mimosa, bloody Mary or a tequila sunrise. The food wasnt impressive. Come check them out for yourself!!

The food was very good but it was the service that was bad. We were there for my friends bday. We were told 15 min. They passed over our name so 15 turned into 30.we requested a slice of cake for my friend and we had to get it as a to go since they took so long. A 1hr late lunch turned into a almost 2 hr lunch. Go when you have te to waste.

If you genuinely enjoy rich tasting and spicy Mexican food this is not the place to go. The food was bland and plain. Other than that, it is a decent restaurant.

Got some breakfast tacos and they were good! Surprised to see they had a drive-thru, but it made it convenient for me. The tacos were delicious and the hot sauce was just hot enough for me. I’m a fan of great tortillas, to me that’s what makes my tacos delish, these were perfect. Better tortillas than most places. I’m planning to dine in for lunch sometime when I can. Hope everyone goes to try this place.Got to dine in for lunch and everything we ordered was delicious. Ordered lemonade and it’s freshly made which is always a nice surprise. All the food was so good we decided to try the tres leches cake and that was a real treat. Have come back at least a few times and told friends & family about it. Everyone has been impressed by the food, service and great employees. Although the waiter didn’t understand everything we had said he was very accommodating and happy to help us.

We stopped in for lunch. We both ordered the Street Tacos Lunch Special. The plate comes with 5 small tacos, charro beans, a serving of guacamole, and roasted poblano peppers. The tacos and beans were delicious, and the peppers added some good spiciness. The iced tea tasted fresh and clean. Our server, Jessica, took very good care of us, checking if we needed anything, and refilling our tea as needed. She even offered us a tea to go. Well be back to try some of the other lunch options, and likely for dinner.

The restaurant itself is beautiful. The drinks were FANTASTIC. I look for fideo loco every time we go to Mexican spot. Yall!!! This fideo was AWESOME! So good got more to go.

Beautiful restaurant. Great service. Very attentive waiters and management. I love their salsa and everything on the menu is delicious and very affordable. The chicken monterrey is my favorite ❤️

Menudo was good. Service was very lousy!!! Wont be going there again. Waiter was new. He didnt carry a tablet to remember was we ordered. He kept forgetting things we asked for. We sat around waiting and had to ask again. When it was time to pay it took them at least 15 minutes to return with change for two of my companions. They didnt bring the correct change and waited around for tip. Finally she walked away. Really poor service. I dont recommend the restaurant.

This place is under rated. Someone posted it was like Taco Cabana or Mama Margies, but I dont think this is accurate. They even said something about the fajitas, but they only posted pictures of their enchiladas which was weird.Anyways, home made fluffy tortillas which were amazing! Nothing like Taco Cabana. We order Tacos from here all the time because of the quality. They stuff them well and dont cheat you on a thin and sad Taco.The staff is really great too. Very welcoming and attentive.Someone complained about waiting a long time for their food. Breakfast was pretty fast for us. If youre going to a restaurant during a busy time, obviously youre going to be waiting a while for your food. Be kind guys.

We went for dinner for my friends birthday. We had such a wonderful time. Great atmosphere. The food was Fantastic & they had Wonderful margaritas. The only downside was they were so packed & the manager kept coming over to get us to leave but we had ordered more drinks & werent ready to go, although we had finished our dinner. We had our drinks & left because there were so many people waiting for a table.

We went for a birthday celebration. Granted we were 10 in the party. We waited a good 30 minutes to get seated. The food was delicious but the service sucks. Our waiter was inattentive. The food didnt come out together. We had to get another waiter to get more chips. He didnt check on our needs. Will Not Be Returning and not Recommending.

Their food is incredible! Their margaritas are extremely good! I got takeout this time and it was ready in 15 minutes and extremely delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone! It does get quite busy on the weekends just an FYI. Parking can also be quite tricky but there is a lot across the street.

First time here use to visit this spot when it was a different name. We enjoyed the cocktails and appetizer and our food everything was very good and we loved the hot salsa they had to offer. We will definitely be back.

When we walked in the door we just walked right to our table ordered our drinks and started eating chips and salsa. Our food came right out, it was delicious, we used to come here all the time when it was La Fonda, so glad a restaurant like Maria Bonita opened here, our old and new place to go and enjoy really good food service.

An absolute must experience for any visitor to San Antonio, the food was great, the ambience was F I E S T A all over it! A really talented Mariachi, the wait time was worth it! Food arrived rather quickly after ordering, the pace of the staff is fast and upbeat! I was surprised for my birthday there when they opened and went back a second time, the overall experience was even better! I cant wait to go again! I gave it 3 stars because its a very nice restaurant in and out. bar is fully stock. beer is cold. Nice food presentation . Would of gave it 5 stars but didnt cause I got a very bad stomachache from the green enchiladas i ordered. A really bad stomachache. I would go back only for the cold beer .

Weve been coming here once a week for the last month and love it. We drive from the 281N/Thousand Oaks area. The servers are very friendly, the food is delish, the ambiance is beautiful. Today I got Chicken Fajitas and they were so good and juicy. In the past Ive ordered chicken puffy tacos, green enchiladas, chicken mole enchiladas, bean and cheese nachos, chicken quesadillas, and everything is absolutely delicious.

Great tasting food. First time there , very happy with food and service. Careful, food comes on a hot plate, but its not microwave. Will be going back soon.

Excellent! Food was delicious. I had a lunch special plate with 2 cheese enchiladas, crispy beef taco, rice, beans and tortillas. Plus drink, For only $8.99! Delicious! My wife and I went on a Friday and had a great date night. The food, service and entertainment was phenomenal. We went back on Sunday evening had a margarita and listened to Irma Aguilar an amazing Mexican singer. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Celebrated relatives 98th birthday. Great atmosphere, great food, best service. Active, festive restaurant. Food is a definite value, especially in these contemporary times. A gem waiting to be discovered. Cant miss with the menu, just quality standards we grew up with. Go local. A hit for San Antonio.

The atmosphere is beautiful and vibrant. Its is so clean and all the little touches like candles on the table, the revolving culutural pictures on the wall, and live mariachis just makes this place my new favorite place. The wait staff is on point and always ready to assist. The food is fresh, best ceviche Ive had in a long time. I had the al pastor place with queso fresco, perfection. Will def be coming back!

Great food at a great price . Their menu has a wide selection of favorites. They still give out chips and a really good salsa. The steak ranchero was spot on , and so were the enchiladas. The musicians playing where we sat were a little loud so next time we will asked to be seated away from them . Other than that everything was good . I will be back to try them out for breakfast .

Excellent service and reasonably priced food. The staff is the best ,very friendly. Food came really quick. Try the puffy tacos they surpassed my expectations.

Food was great and the service was amazing! We had a party of 20 and they accommodated us quickly and with a smile. Alicia was our server and she did a fantastic job!

Awesome place, food is excellent and not your generic San Antonio Tex mex (nothing wrong with that but just saying this is not that kind of place.. All around good flavor, service and speed. Check it out if youre nearby.

I sat there for 25 minutes watching 3 managers trying to figure out where to place a new employee. They had her hosted, server and bar but no schedule and had her all over the place. AND if you dont soak Spanish, dont bother. I thought we were in the US but majority of staff only speak Spanish. The food is ehhhh

Updated 7/8: Growing pains. The food is now taking a very long time at lunch, so no more in and out in an hour. Also, if you cannot speak Spanish, you will need to ask for an English fluent wait staff. Its really frustrating when you cant communicate and have to flag others down to translate. Original: We were not expecting the awesomeness that we found here. Beautiful first impression, tasty chips and salsa while waiting, and then, the food... Friday lunch special for me, standard San Antonio plate for my companion. And HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS. Oh boy! Frickin delicious. Due to time and price constraints, lunch tends to be a compromise. In and out within an hour, belly full, and achy to come back without restriction and have some margaritas. We. Will. Be. Back.

Excellent service, the food was great and the food was reasonably priced. Ambiance and decor are spot on for this hidden gem. The area and looks from the outside are deceiving. A must if your in the area.

Great atmosphere! Mariachis provided the festive mood. The drinks of Don Peppino and the Maria Bonita margarita are highly recommended to start the evening. The Maria Bonita appetizer provided a good assortment of tasty items. We had the salmon, street tacos and green enchiladas. All were delicious. We will definitely be back!

Dang, this place is great - and what a cool building, Beaumont Mood Lighting fixtures all over the place! Also, it’s very reasonably priced for such a fancy-lookin’ joint with such good food, I mean, the cheese enchilada plate (which were muy delicioso!cost less here than at dumpy lookin’ ol’ Don Pedro (I was shocked= 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Jalapeños!

First and last visit. So me and my family came on a friday, yes very busy and understandable. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated then when we got seated, waited another 15 minutes for a waitress/waiter to talk to us. Finally one comes up to us ignores me and talks to my husband THE WHOLE TIME. if your waiting on a table, please pay attention to the whole table rather than just the man… next, the food came and it was tasteless and just all around bad. I went to my hotel and threw up all night. Food poisoning was not on my agenda for the weekend. I will never go back.

Been trying hard to like this place but they are so disorganized and the wait staff is very hit and miss. They serve a really decent coffee for only a $1.99 with some real half and half. So, cant go wrong there but certainly that doesnt make a place. The enchilada was perfect but then again how is it that so many places messed that up it doesnt take a lot to get it right but at least they do. Did not care at all for the rice nor the beans. The flour tortilla is average. The fajita taco was good and certainly better than many places but nowhere near the original Taco Cabana. Still waiting for someone to figure out how to get their marinade and then of course use good meat and grill it at the moment you order it fresh.

This was my first time. The atmosphere is excellent. The beef fajitas were very good. The service was ok. I had to wait for refill but they may have been lacking staff.

As soon as you walk in you are greeted! The host sat us down at our table, and immediately our waitress came to take our drink order. She brought us chips, with 3 different salsas. We placed our orders, and the food came quick!! Everything was delicious. Im very picky about my enchiladas, and they use real cheddar cheese, not American cheese. The beans were real, not can- a major plus. And the rice was super tasty. Another thing is the beef fajitas were cooked fresh, as you can see a pink center. Well be back again!!

As soon as you walk into Maria Bonita the decor and the ambiance is very impressive and relaxing. The bar is beautiful with great drink selections. I was very impressed with the friendless of the staff along with the service that was absolutely on point. The menu had plenty of selections with fair prices. Well, my only grip is with the taste of the food. I would compare it to Mama Margies or possibly even Taco Cabana quality. Truthfully, I so wanted to make this restaurant one of my regular stops, but it came up way short. Thankfully though the flour tortillas are homemade. Im willing to give this restaurant another chance but this time with the fajitas because some places really shine on just that alone. Please do give Maria Bonita a chance because you may feel differently than me.

Found this place by mistake. WOW! Starting with the first chip, it was so good. Kimberly was such a sweetheart of a waitress. Manager really had us feel welcome. The prices are just right too. Ok , going in for breakfast in the weekend. Our meal was DELISH! Lets go!

Fabulous!!! Every dish we ordered was delicious. Loved the margarita, made with fresh ingredients. The ambiance was festive but still felt like a welcoming neighborhood spot. We can’t wait to return.

Incredible food and drinks and service! We stopped in on a Sunday mid morning and walked into a total gem! From the outside you cannot tell what an absolute gold mine this restaurant is. The service was phenomenal, the decor inside is incredible. You are totally transported to another world from the strip mall area you walked into. The food is amazing! We had ceviche, huevos rancheros, a pancake and the caldo. Seriously, all were so amazing! They have plans for an outdoor area soon and I cannot wait to walk here multiple times a week! Unfortunately we are most of our food before pics!

My 1st visit. The restaurant is very beautiful. Staff very friendly. I ordered a combo plate . The flavors of all the items were delicious! Seasoned well, and served hot! Tortillas were very tasty! They do not have a full menu yet but they assured me it is on the way. They also have a drive thru for picking up items to go. Closed on Sundays. I will definitely be back to try out more of their menu!
