Mardi Gras Memphis in Memphis

My family and I visited this restaurant on October 16, 2020. For starters dont judge the location of the business. Great to know that during the COVID-19 pandemic they are checking people temperature before you are able to sit in the dining area. The dining area was simple, but thats ok. Customer service was great! Food is good; although the lemonade was a bit too tart for my daughter and I. I would recommend for others to try this spot out.

Visited memphis from missouri for my bday and heard good things about this place from a travelers group on fb. They did not disappoint. Food was AMAZING and the alcoholic beverage was as well. I bought a jar of NOLA sauce to bring home 😁. They require mask upon entry, have hand sanitizer for each table and check temps at the door.

My husband and I were in Memphis visiting friends and they took us to this amazing restaurant!! Our server Johnny was the best. He had personality , swag and knew the menu very well !! He could have sold me everything on the menu🥰. The cook came out and met us , the music was great , the atmosphere was relaxed. I could go on and on. This is my new favorite spot. Please try the deep fried bread and Ms. Pennys corn something lol you’ll see it on the menu ...get it it’s da bomb 💣 . Oh and that peach cobbler baaabbby!! Even if you full get it!!

Ive eaten at Mardi Gras Memphis before but its been a while. I liked the food, drinks, service and ambiance the first time I ate there and the second time was very close to being as good. The waitstaff was on point as expected. Our waiter was professional and friendly. The ambiance was still great, even in Covid times where tables were spread out, still awesome and my guest and I felt safe. Since we ate lunch and had to return to work, Im sure you can imagine we didnt sample the adult beverages but the iced tea was perfectly brewed and not cloyingly sweet. I had the shrimp and grits. I love spicy but there was a little too much cayenne used. My guest had the crawfish étouffée which wasnt very well seasoned, cold, and lacked spice. It wasnt bad but Ive had better from the same restaurant. Overall Im happy way more good than not. If you havent tried Mardi Gras Memphis, do yourselves a favor and give them a try youll be happy you did.

We happened upon this resturant today! I am so happy we did! The food was excellent! And so much of it!!!! We had shrimp and grits, gumbo and the mashed potatoes! The biscuits we got before lunch were awesome as well! You could tell everything was made from scratch. The atmosphere was great also! Anthony took such great care of us! I can not wait to go back and try more of the menu !!!! We were out of my "bubble" going somewhere Ive never been. So happy we did! Thank you for an awesome lunch and awesome service ! ❤❤❤

Very authentic cajun food. Dining room is open with distancing restrictions. Service is a bit slow on the day we went as long only one server is working the tables. Food does get spicy.

My sisters and I decided to go to brunch. The customer service was on point from the moment we walked through the door. The biscuits were so good I had eaten one before I remembered to take pictures. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Seafood Gumbo, and Seafood Pasta. The staff are wearing masks properly, social distancing, and cleaning constantly.

My first time ordering was through Grub Hub and it was sooo perfect. They give you a very nice size meal! Not only that, I went there in person to get to-go right before they closed and the guy with the lox’s was so kind. They had my food ready in no time and it was FRESH! I live about 12-15min away and when I got home my food was still pipping hot and fresh. I’ll definitely come back and recommend! Not only is the food EXCELLENT but the customer service is tip top!!

What a great find, thanks to the earlier reviews, and they did not lead us astray. Service was prompt and friendly. The mini sampler is perfect for a light meal, and then Mardi Gras sampler was light, flavorful, and enough for two. I had the blocked catfish etouffee. Even though I was stuffed (the portions are huge), I would keep eating just because it was all so good.

My shrimp po boy was LEGIT. We stopped in on a cross country road trip for a late dinner and everyone left full and happy. Also tried some of my wifes red beans and rice, and it was as good as Ive ever had. Even the fries were super yummy, cooked to the perfect crispness. Son loved his catfish and daughter said the Mardi Gras pasta was outstanding. Will definitely stop here again if were back in Memphis!

Highly satisfied. Was on an 18 hr road trip and wanted to try something non-chain. This place was divine! Great vibe and AMAZING seafood gumbo & Catfish Po’Boy. Also random but LOVED the cute inspiring restroom.. one of a kind place, a must try!!

As a Gulf Coast native, I can tell you this is the most authentic shrimp poboy and dirty rice Ive ever had away from home. Im sorry I didnt get a before pic, once I tasted it I couldnt stop. Ive found my favorite local eatery. ♥️

Visiting the area and trying restaurants that aren’t chain related. Had the corn chowder with crawfish and it was very good. The chicken noodle entre was what I chose and it did not disappoint either. The peach cobbler to finish it off. All was very good, friendly atmosphere and great help in choosing from the menu. Highly recommend this restaurant!!

Food was delicious... The gumbo had me feeling like I was really in New Orleans...

Very good food and very good service in an eclectic environment. Po-Boy, grilled shrimp platter and seafood pasta were all very good. Dont miss the bread pudding either. Great dining experience.

Sorry, I dont know how the food tastes. So, the one star is because I had to choose one to leave a review. We didnt get any food. It took us half an hour to even get drinks. By then we had decided to go somewhere else. The family a couple tables over started singing about hoping their food would soon come and we decided it was best to go elsewhere.

I have been to this establishment 4-5 times. It is absolutely fantastic. If you like New Orleans type food you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere and wait staff are excellent. Highly recommend. This restaurant is now closed. I tried to have lunch there on Friday, March 15, 2019 and there was a sign on the door indicating they are closed due to staffing problems.

I was so excited to go to this soul food kind of place right across the street from where I was staying for a few days & then became unbelievably disappointed with this place from the time I walked in as the beer & food election ended up being quite different from what is shown on their website. In attempting to order a beer instead of being able to choose from 7 or 8 selections as seen on their website they now have just 1 single beer to choose from which is a blonde ale & then when I tried to order a couple different tasty sounding food dishes from the newly created menu I was told that they didnt have any vegetables at all that were suppose to come with the seafood dish but I could have french fries instead which seemed a bit bizarre. When I received the mixed seafood dish ordered the large catfish fillet was seriously overcooked as well as the shrimp & oysters too let alone most of the goofy french fries overcooked as well.........what a funky strange experience

First time here though I had the food previously at a business function. I had the shrimp Po-boy sandwich and steamed veggies. The sandwich was killer good. The bread was fresh and toasted. It had lots of great, blackened shrimp with remoulade sauce and it was huge! The veggies were good as well. They were very hot and well-seasoned. Im looking forward to coming back and trying the gumbo.

Great staff and management. My twin daughters enjoyed having their birthday dinner here. Perfect service and timely. And of course, delicious cajun food. One of our guest had food allergies but she was able to eat the chicken without worrying was it in the same oil as the seafood. Overall, the best.

We visited for dinner on a busy Saturday night, my first trip to the restaurant even though it had been recommended to me several times. At this place, you seat yourself so I grabbed the last available table. We ordered a signature dish, Pasta Mardi Gras and an order of fried catfish Bienville. The food probably took 45 minutes to come out but as I said, the place was packed and I didnt mind the wait at all. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and exceeded expectations! Once contact was made, our server was very courteous and obviously knew the menu and the offerings well. Not fast food but delicious, I recommend and will return!

Food is still excellent and the gumbo is the best in the area (Miss Penny is still cooking!The restaurant has changed to a counter service restaurant with no table side wait staff, no ceramic plates and only plastic utensils. Not a show stopper, but when we return we will bring our own silverware. The young man and lady running the front of the house are very friendly and helpful.

This place has hands down the most authentic down south creole food i have had anywhere outside New Orleans. The food was INCREDIBLE and i will DEFINITELY be spreading the word and bringing my family. Service was very warm and nice. Only criticism would be the food took a lil while but after tasting it...."i completely understand." 4.5 out of 5 👌🎊🎉✨🎆🎇🥳

We were thrilled with the quality of the food and the overall taste. It was a sub par night for service but everyone has a bad night once in a while. The food outweighed the slow, painfully slow service. The fried catfish was just about the best Ive ever had and I highly recommend the corn chowder and Crayfish etoufeè! Hands down best Cajun meal in a while in Memphis. Well see if we can add a star for service next time.

Awesome food, and atmosphere. Got the sampler just to try some of everything. They were good tried shrimp and grits really good a well. Wife tried pasta it was superb, had fried fish A++. Everyone enjoyed their meals its a nice spot for an good food and nice service.

Very good food, only decent Gumbo north Louisiana, but the staff needs to learn to scan a room for customers with needs. Im sure theyll get it with time and experience. #WillEatAgain

Cajun and Creole done very well. Everything I tried, tasted and asked, perfect. I was pleasantly surprised how well the food was prepared. Service amazing.Decor was something you would expect in Orleans. This is one of those hidden gems.

wow, i Had some of the best Cajun food today. This place isn’t the largest but what it lacks in size it makes up for in every other way. The drinks were great, both flavorful and strong. They were only upstaged by the food. I am genuinely impressed and that’s no small feat. I’m skeptical about any claims to Cajun north of highway 65 but this place has all the rights to be called “Mardi Gras Memphis” because that’s exactly what it is. The food parties in your mouth and I mean that in the best way. The only way to truly appreciate it is to experience it first hand. I’ll be back, and all my friends are coming with me. Great service and even better food.

Don’t judge a book by its cover! This little place is amazing! Located across the street from the Crosstown Concourse, you can’t miss this little gem with its purple exterior! The staff was extremely pleasant when we arrived, the waitress was on point and so was the food! Every plate that came out of that kitchen looked absolutely mouthwatering! I had the Blackened Catfish Bienville w/white rice! The sauce that they top the dish with was so flavorful! Even the grilled veggies (squash & zucchiniwere amazing! Not sure what they used but the flavor on them was just right. My office mate had the same dish, but with dirty rice versus my white rice & his food was literally gone in 60 seconds. If you’re a fan of Cajun food & love flavor then this little place should definitely be on your “to do” list. I will be returning often! Oh & let me not forget the fully stocked bar! They also have a daily happy hour from 5pm-7pm & I believe Sunday the happy hour special runs all day (you may want to double check the time & days)!

Its not as I remember. The food was okay, but before it seemed to pop more, and they had a larger menu.. I really enjoyed my grilled shrimp, but for some reason, the catfish tasted a little different.. The roll was aweseome!!! The dark and stormy was not what I am used to; it was just okay, and the dark and stormy was 1 of my main reasons for going there before... *sigh* I will give it another try soon, but I was disappointed... Im used to it being great there, and it was just kind of okay this tome... 😢😥✌🏽

The decor was cool, but the best part is the food. The flavors were excellent!! The people there are friendly and helpful. Great service! We each ordered different plates and shared everything. Next time we visit Memphis, well be back and try other dishes.

The food was so good that I couldnt give it any less than 5 stars! The waitress was a bit lack luster, (College girl that was more concerned with her phone than customersbut when the food came it made up for everything. I know the restaurant is going for the whole "Louisiana" vibe, but some things in the restaurant are just old. I.e. the floors, ceiling, and walls. If youre a person that desires top notch ambiance, this isnt the place for you. If you want amazing food filled with flavor without the staggering crowds of Beale street.......It gets no better than this!

I was just introduced to Mardi Gras Memphis. This is 4 years too late for me. I love this place. It is on my MUST eat here list.The owner, Penny Henderson, is from Lake Charles La. I grew up in that part of Louisiana. I can assure you, this is authentic home style Cajun Food! Don’t confuse this with New Orleans cuisine. This is Cajun, not creole. There are some creole dishes, but this is rural Cajun at its best.Penny does a fantastic job of cooking and presenting her dishes. Ca c’est beaucoup bon!

Fun environment Fast and friendly service. The shrimp and grits melted into my mouth! Oh and the butter bread was the best !!! !My taste buds are excited to try more food(son the menu ;)

My wife and I ate here tonight. We ordered ..like....just about everything in a sampler, plus a few other items. This was absolutely authentic top quality Cajun food. My aunt was Cajun and Ive had the real stuff. I go to the big easy regularly and Ive not had better. It was worth the drive from Knoxville.

I love the concept here and the fact that this restaurant is helping to bring life back to the Crosstown community.The pricing on the menu is pretty awesome. If youre a large family, youll definitely get the most bang for your buck.The food itself is really flavorful. My side salad was delicious. I love when restaurants really dice your salad into bite-sized pieces. The dressing was on par with the salad. Blue Cheese dressing is hit and miss. This was a hit.For my main meal, I got the chicken and sausage gumbo - what a savory flavor. No to-go container - no leftovers. The rice that accompanies the gumbo was cooked to perfection.The staff was eager to make sure diners had a good experience.

This place is a local gem! The owner was working and greeted us and checked on all the tables! She also knew we had never been and went into details about how they make everything fresh. She states what the most popular things were as well. The chowder was amazing as well as everything else we had! Definitely well be back! The service was great and its a family owned restaurant!

I had a sample of the Miss Pennys Crawfish Corn Chowder which was awesome! Nicely sweet with a little heat. For my main meal I had the Shrimp Grit Grind. The grits were creamy and flavorful and the shrimp were perfect.I happened to go on a slow day for lunch, and had awesome service. All in all a great experience.

The food is indescribable. The owner is hilarious. The ambiance is outstanding. Everything we ate just made our taste buds go wild.

5+ Stars, great food, great service, Penny the owner very nice, we were talking to her about the gumbo and told her it seemed like the sausage was missing. She said she would bring us some. She came out with a plate if grilled sausage for us, it was very good. We had the seafood platter with fried catfish and shrimp and grilled shrimp, I left off the oysters, Im allergic. Mandi waited on us, very nice and personable. We have been here about 10 times, never disappointed. The gumbo is the things not the thick one, however, very good flavor!

Had a Penny and I loved it.. The service was excellent and the staff is very friendly! Ashley L. was my server and she was the sweetest thing ever. My friend had the seafood gumbo and a sampler said it was best thing shes ate since she left Baton Rouge. Foods amazing, drinks are fabulous, and the atmosphere makes me feel like Im at home with my family having dinner!! Absolutely love this place and we will definitely be back!!
