Maple Leaf Tavern in Toronto
Description
Privilege
Try the seats overlooking the kitchen. We had a great dinner which included a conversation with the chef while he was cooking. He gave us the inside scoop on the best dishes and provided a free sample. So delicious.
MoreCool east end bar. Nice
Had dinner at Maple Leaf Tavern with friends last night, and it was amazing! Had several different appetizers and side dishes and all were delicious... especially the brussels sprouts! Mains and desserts were all excellent as well.. not to mention the best martini Ive ever had! Very nice menu choices and service was outstanding. Highly recommended!
MoreCame here to celebrate a milestone with family visiting from out of province. We wanted somewhere with high end food with cozy/comfy atmosphere, Maple Leaf Tavern did not disappoint! One thing I noticed as soon as I entered was how staffed up they were! There were SO many people working - and it showed with the service. Our water glasses never even made it to halfway, we ordered 3 starters, drinks, and 4 mains and it was some of the most efficient service Ive seen in a while. Start to finish we were there for only about 1h20mins!The food was incredible, everything had such rich and vibrant flavour. It was balanced impeccably, and the presentation was beautiful.I wouldnt say this is a hidden gem (since the building itself is so large 😅but the exterior presentation definitely does not match the fine dining experience. Check it out when youre able (youll need reservations on weekends)!
MoreAbsolutely deliciousGreat serviceId definitely recommend it to anyone looking for casual, yet upscale food
MoreWas an excellent dining experience. Food was incredible, every dish tasted great. Very attentive staff. Made a birthday meal extra special.
MoreThis restaurant is simply exceptional. The food and service are consistently spectacular and each experience there can be unique, which is fun for us regulars. Then menu gets regular additions which respect the bounty and flavours of the seasons. Last night we discovered the charred padron peppers with pickled charred corn and Parmesan emulsion - a magical and unique combination which instantly became the thing I will be craving for a long time to come. We sat at the chef’s rail last night and watched Chef Stephane Renaux orchestrate a perfect brigade and got to experience the sights and smells of every dish being prepared for the restaurant. The stunning wood grill is mesmerizing to watch and the smell is unbeatable. We have also sat at the bar for cocktails and snacks and got to know Michael, the most masterful and incredibly knowledgeable mixologist who creates phenomenal cocktails for us, including some delightfully craveable off menu creations on our anniversary and again last night when we sheepishly asked if he could do that special thing again. And then he topped that by adding seasonal flair with special Indigenous herbs! On most visits we curl up in a comfy corner banquette - whichever one is in Jennifer’s section - because she’s a pure gem. She makes us feel like we’re having a lovely dinner at a friend’s house, complete with the same excitement you get when your friend starts suggesting all the wonderful things they might want to cook for you. She makes us feel just as special when we shlep in tired for a quick burger and fries as when we come in for a lingering multi course meal. The managers also make every experience wonderful with their friendly greetings and check ins. And last but not least, they expertly and kindly accommodate our food allergies, which is no small feat. To the whole crew at Maple Leaf Tavern, thank you for all you do. We feel spoiled and honoured every time we sit at your table.
MoreDid an evening walk about last night and happened into The Maple Leaf Tavern. Well done! Start to finish. Promptly seated at the bar and enjoyed a fantastic bottle of Amnesty , suggested by Michael.A few appetizers and more drinks followed. A fantastic entertaining place.See you very soon.THANK YOU.
MoreGreat service, steak tartare, onion soup, Bavette steak followed by Black Forest dessert.
MoreHey there. We went there for a brunch, had heard a lot about this place!!!It was a meal worth the visit! We tried three savoury pancakes, one each and couldn’t finish any of them (the quantity is so generous! We had the hot Dutch, the meat feast and some like it hot. I liked the hot Dutch the most. We asked for chilli oil on the side to give our spicy tooth some treat!!!In the sweet one, we had the poffertjes fruit and ice cream pancake and the banana chocolate waffle!!!
MoreI really enjoy MLT, and the Manhattans are fantastic! I really like the environment and when im having dinner with a friend, theres no better seat than at the Chefs table overlooking the kitchen in action.
MoreMy husband and I along with our 25 guests had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our wedding at Maple Leaf Tavern in late August. With our input, the Director of Operations, Esther, and the Executive Chef Renaux created a tasting menu that was just perfect! Along with the tasting menu, Esther suggested canapes and cocktails to start and we finished with a surprise black forest cake decorated with florets and chocolate maple leaves. The hospitality throughout the night was top notch and all our guests were well taken care of. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and many of our guests raved about the food for days following. We highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion!!
MoreWe had our anniversary dinner here, we had been wanting to try it for some time now and finally had a chance! So glad we did, the food was amazing, the portions were a perfect size, and the service was great too. It was also a nice atmosphere, unexpected from the outside really. Definitely recommend for any special event or date night!
MoreMade a reservation here for dinner, we had great service and tasting meal. They make their Caesar salad with a twist, it comes with a large slab piece of bacon which you cut up yourself. Fried brussel sprouts is a must order size, its fried to perfection and the sauce that accompanies it is to die for. For dessert, we had the Pavlova, had the great airy meringue texture. Would definitely return here to eat these items and try out new ones.
MoreGreat local eatery, quality food and nice cozy patio. Service is also attentive.
Casual elegance, top tier cocktails and honestly, some of the best food in Toronto.
MoreI love the creative twist on the menu using fresh local produce and ingredients and their drinks are not bad. I was first introduced to them when I had their Thanksgiving take home menu for 8 during covid. And subsequently tried their Valentines menu. The burrata in the appetizer is amazing. Everything on their menu is. Hostesses and waitresses are absolutely nice. Great ambiance and great food.
MoreMy husband and I had a great time at Maple Leaf Tavern. Great food: lobster cavatelli, aspargus, halibut, brussels, and rhubarb pavlova as a desert. Woww, everything to die for! I had Paloma fresca as my drink 🍹🍹. Amazing environment, and Heather was our waitress, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. Its worthy every penny.
MoreI just had a belated mothers day brunch with my partner and 9 month old daughter. Service was excellent and the food was great but we did have an issue when orderinh something for our daughter. I asked for a single scrambled egg without salt or seasoning for her to pick at. What came was a full scrambled egg breakfast. I didnt question it at the time. After giving her several bites, my partner tried the eggs only to find them quite spicy. When I told the waitress, she did apologize and said maybe there had been something on the grill. My baby seemed fine so no harm done. But then we got the bill and her meal was not comped. We paid $8 for part of an egg. At that point my daughter was getting restless so we just paid and left. I dont think well be back, sadly.
MoreWonderful experience! Great atmosphere, delicious food and amazing, helpful staff. I cant wait to go back.
MoreJust had the best dinner out and top notch service in years! As a big birthday celebration we ordered a wide variety of items off the menu and each one was delicious! Highly recommend the burger, Brussels, Beets and chocolate tarts. Plus, staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. Great place to get together with friends!
MoreWe had a fantastic experience at Maple Leaf Tavern. The staff from the host to chef is warm and welcoming. Our host Esther is friendly, helpful and accommodating. It made our dinner out that much more enjoyable. The food is great and the atmosphere is perfect. Our kids enjoyed the food and the adults love the menu.
MoreIt was a lovely evening, this place may have "Tavern" in its name but it feels more like a "Bistro". Service was great, food was delicious. The decor is warm and inviting. Try it out, you wont regret it. Now ... I cant guarantee that you will love it, but I am comfortable saying that you will like it.
MoreCame here for a cocktail. Was hoping to get a maple cocktail of some sort and the bartender whipped up a special concoction that did not disappoint. It was exactly what I wanted. He was super friendly too.The atmosphere here is classy and cozy. I would totally have had dinner here if I didn’t already have a reservation somewhere else. Definitely would come back here. Special spot. Love how friendly the staff is. They know what they’re doing when it comes to customer service. 😁
MoreSUCH beautiful food at Maple Leaf Tavern last night! We were celebrating a birthday, so did the tasting menu (which changes sometimes), and everything was WOW. The menu is posted in the pics. Heather and team and team took great care of us!
MoreGreat food and atmosphere. Been here 2x now and overall I like the food and drinks. Its a nice addition to the neighbourhood. Bit pricey but worth it.I wanted to give this place 5 stars until 1 night, a table of 3 women were seated right next to our family and given complimentary food right in front of us when all they ordered were drinks. Thought that was kinda rude.Aside from that one off experience, Id still go back hoping for more balanced service the next time.
MoreI was invited to a tasting media event and let me tell you.. I was actually surprised how good and tasty the food is. My only problem is their decor of the restaurant. It looks too much like a bar but the food is more fine dine. I also had a chance to meet the chef and hes super friendly. I do love this place! I highly recommend it 👌
More100/10..if I could give this Hidden Gem 10 STARS I would. We found out about Maple Leaf Tavern through a blog. A BIGTHANK YOU to all the waiters / waitresses, GM, Manager, Chef Stephen & Sous Chefs for making our 1ST time dining experience at Maple Leaf Tavern a great one.The food was amazing. The atmosphere, amazing. The service AMAZING.I was craving a hamburger & they sure didnt fail me. The Burrata (Must to try).
MoreWe randomly found this place after a few fails of trying to get away from downtown. Let me tell you what, this was A+ elevated neighborhood dining at its best. From Jasmine, Heather and bartender Michael tag teaming every patio table, they nailed it. Started with the Watermelon Spritz pitcher, onto our initial app, the Milk Bread and it was accompanied by their shrimp avocado toast by their choice since we were newbies! Our dinners were the trout and cavatelli, and as amazing as you can imagine. We werent planning dessert but they gave us a pavlova with pistachio and strawberry that was out of bounds! Seek this place out!! My only regret is not taking pics of the entrees, equally impressive.
MoreGreat service 11/10. Really proud of the staff welcoming us to the restaurant. Atmosphere was very soothing. Great place for a date. Ester (hostwas MVP - made our experience 10x better. 100% would come back again - quality of the food was very delicious. No bad experiences what so ever. Would come back just for the great service
MoreWe celebrated my spouse’s birthday here and could not get over the spectacular service/wonderful food. It was a rainy night but they had a covered patio. Last minute we decided to dine inside because we thought it would be chilly that evening and they were so accommodating.Ester and our server really acknowledged the birthday celebration and provided complimentary burrata (yumand a sparkling red wine. It’s been difficult for the restaurant industry but we’re so glad we could celebrate our special occasion at a place that went above and beyond. We ordered the pisco punch and a Manhattan for drinks and the presentation was beautiful but more importantly the taste was amazing. For food we started with a Caesar salad (delicious anchovy sauceand for our mains we ordered the Bavette steak with chimichurri (this was my favourite dine in meal of the year), cavatelli (handmadewith lobster, and a side of asparagus (a must!).In the past I’d come just for the drinks but going forward I’d come for both the food and the drinks.Thank you for a memorable evening MLT. ❤️
MoreGreat atmosphere, delicious elevated gastro pub in the East end of Toronto. Patio is modest a little loud but comfortable (and covered).Thought the burrata was delicious especially with the candied walnuts but the side milk bread was *devine* especially with their home made butter. Wow!Had the lobster cavatelli mixed with peas, oyster mushrooms and asparagus. Perfectly cooked, lovely seasoned and worth it with the mountains of lobster in the dish!Cocktails were nice but nothing to write home about.
MoreAn ace experience at the tavern! They have a great patio vibe with the perfect combination of privacy and action. The Burrata (A MUST!), Avocado & Shrimp, Cavateli and burger were all delicious and shareable. Perfect drinks pairings for the summer season bringing a refreshed taste to the evening. It’s evident that the chef Stephan is passionate about bringing a memorable experience to tavern guests. The best dining experience we’ve had since the start of the pandemic. Can’t wait to come back and try all the other dishes we saw come out and immediately regretted not ordering!
MoreOne of my favorite restaurants in the city. On my first visit, my wife and I dropped in without a reservation and they only had a small section available, which turned out to be (in my opinionthe best seat in the house. Looking over their wood fired grill, watching the chefs cook. That was a very nice night and started my love affair with this place.I bring all my friends and coworkers here and they love it. I brought my mother who was visiting from out west and two years later she still talks about the froie gras hassleback potatoes. The real thing that caught our attention from the first visit was the roasted cauliflower and cheese sauce. This dish is some sort of culinary wizardry that I harass the staff about in order to learn a bit more about it each visit. Its outrageously good and I order it every time. Their burger is truly great, and I recommend you get their burger kits for takeout cause they turn out so great at home. This is a truly special neighborhood place. All the food, cocktails -- everything is great. The decor and ambiance inside is wonderful as well. Please do what you can and support your local restaurants during this dumpster fire of a situation. I hope the Maple Leaf Tavern stays around for as long as they want, they are a neighborhood landmark in my eyes. Ill see yall soon! Some pics attached of my favorite meals over the years.
MoreI really wanted to like this place. Ive heard such great things! I ordered off the winterlicious menu and maybe that was my mistake. I got the onion and brisket soup to start, elk cheek for the main and the ice cream bar for dessert. The soup was good, but it didnt have any brisket in it! That was a mis-leading menu item. The elk cheek was all gristle and tasted bland. I had to chew it forever to get through the gristle and eventually I left it on the plate with a couple bites left. It was served with a sad looking cabbage leaf and dried out parsnips. I was mega let-down. I guess if you go here, order off the regular menu and focus on menu items they do well.
MoreMLT was good, not great. Most dishes we had lacked some oomph or needed to be just that much better. As well, our server was maybe having an off night but they really weren’t there and missed the mark. The onion soup and Caesar salad really lacked flavour. The burger was very good but the veg pie again, really needed more flavour. It presented beautifully though. The room and ambiance were great and I would definitely go back for the burger and a martini.
MoreAmazing Canadian comfort food!Really loved the brunch menu and the cobbler cocktails. Will be back for sure. The scones and sausages are made in house and they are soooo good. That alone is worth the trip.
MoreI remember when this was the kind of place you would avoid, its so nice to se whats been done with it. The decor was nice, the food was amazing and the service was excellent.
MoreSeriously amazing place. Food is fantastic. The garlic bread is so so good. We had the ribeye with the carrots, cauliflower and fries, the Cheddar emulsion with the cauliflower is binge worthy by itself. The steak was perfectly cooked and the red wine sauce is was delicious. We were also celebrating our anniversary and in the reservation I mentioned Id like to preorder dessert and it all came without question as well as making us a card signed by all the staff. Really classy touch. Thanks so much ❤️
MoreThis place looks like nothing on the outside, but once you are inside you know you made the right choice. If you look to see the action in the kitchen, make sure to sit in the semi private room in the back, it offers a seating are where you face the grill station and a sides preparation station. The food is excellent, I had an amazing steak tartare and the mutton. The mutton was flavorful ,however the cut I ended up with wasnt the best, nevertheless my friend got a very nice mutton piece and really enjoyed it. This place is really busy , be sure to make reservations. The staff was top notch as well.
MoreTavern food was done perfectly. Every dish was perfectly seasoned and well balanced. The chef here is very talented and shows restraint by serving straightforward meals that people will crave. Will be back for sure.
MoreThis is a great pub and they have an awesome burger. Pints are a good price and their cocktails, although more expensive, are awesome. One of our places in Toronto.
MoreUpdated review:Went back to MLT to give it another try for our anniversary and so glad I have this place another chance. I had the vegetable meatloaf and it was so flavourful. The charred broccoli side dish is also absolutely delicious. My parter had the mutton and loved his dish. We also had the peanut butter dessert which was out of this world. Maybe the best dessert I’ve had in Toronto!Decided to check Maple Leaf Tavern out during Summerlicious. I had a garden salad to start, a pasta main, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The service was fantastic and relatively fast, however the food was simply okay for the price. I will come back to try their brunch menu, as well as to have some of their great beers on tap.
MoreStopped in for a quick bite. Had the Beef Tartar(flank steak), tender and flavorful. Arrived at the table quickly, well presented. Paired with Wisers 35 year Canadian Whisky. The perfect pairing, what more could one want. Staff was very accommodating. They offer the perfect balance of refinement, food quality to price ratio. Wood visit again with friends.Cheers
MoreMaple leaf tavern is a lovely place. The decor has a lot of old tavern-style charm, but the open kitchen gives a more modern feel at the same time. Service is great, friendly and attentive throughout the evening. I asked for a custom made cocktail, which was no problem, and came out wonderful. I highly recommend the broccoli and cauliflower side dishes, specially the cauliflower is divine. We shared some appetizers and then the pork chop, which was also perfect. The only thing that didnt convince me was the steak tartar and the sausage appetizers. I thought the tartar was over dressed, and the flavor of the steak was did not come through. The sausage is good, but its a pretty small portion. Overall a lovely place for dinner nevetheless, I highly recommend it.
MoreThe only regret I have with this restaurant is not coming to try it sooner! My husband and I dined there for a Friday date night. The place was slightly busy but luckily there was a cancellation and we were at to be seated at a table in the corner. However, they have an open style kitchen and bar seating where you could observe the chefs and that is one of my favourite things to do in a restaurant so we opted for the bar. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was mostly excellent! We both had a cheeseburger with fries and it was quite delicious. The only downside was my Caesar salad. Although made with a homemade anchovy dressing, the salad really fell flat. But that would not discourage me from coming back as my husband and I both sure we have a new local date spot.
MoreThis is a historic tavern and a east Toronto gem. Completely renovated into an absolutely gorgeous restraunt. Good is fantastic very meat forward, Homemade sausages are to die for. Maple Leaf Tavren unique wood fire grill is chraming giving off a rare flavor you wont find anywhere else. Indulge in mutton chops and big steaks an costume your veggie sides. Plenty of delicious fish avilble as well! Great beer and wine selection to match the awsome food. You like cocktails Maple Leaf Tarven doesnt disappoint. Open for dinner and brunch its a east side must!
MoreFantastic restaurant. Ive been coming here for a while now mostly for brunch and food and service are consistently great. They take reservations and Id recommend doing that especially if your are more that four people or during busy times. The menu isnt huge which I like and they have brunch a little different than other places. Some interesting twists on classic menu items.Been here for dinner as well before and had the same great experience. Great dinner menu as well.
MoreMake a reservation! Food is top shelf. Best cheeseburger ever! Quality ingredients. Excellent, knowledgeable servers. Free parking at Gerard Square!
MoreWe were a group of three. We tried three of the sausages, and liked the bratwurst and the duck best. Also tried the bacon that was delicious and charry. I had the lasagna and appreciated the crispy goodness all around. We all know the best part of the lasagna is always the edges... Here you get all the crispy edges! We also shared the crispy rice pudding, pretty sure the ice cream went through a whipping siphon haha! It was different and a nice treat at the end of an enjoyable meal. Service was great. We loved the Saint when Chef Vallins was there and well definitely be back here even tho we miss the old saint menu ! Recommend it!
