Mao Yuan Restaurant in Taipei

A local restaurant in Taiwanese style. True to its original tastes. Nothing fancy but good on many dishes. Its pork liver is a signature dish. Strongly recommend. Also its Taiwanese sausages are quite tasty. The service is better than its peers are, as it comes pretty friendly. If you are hungry for local Taiwanese food, this is a good choice.

It was so nice to have Taiwanese home style dishes. I liked steamed pork belly, fried noodles, oysters. The mood is not heavy and bit comfortable to enjoy the dishes.

Overall outstanding quality Taiwanese food over comparably reasonable price.Most dishes come with 3 sizes at your choosing. Chicken, fried seafod rolls, calamari balls, stirred fried clams, and steamed fish are must-tries.

Very poor experience.The staff were not particularly helpful nor were they happy to assist with relatively simple requests.Didn’t feel welcome in this restaurant.Food was somewhat adequate, hardly what I expected given its good reputation.Maybe the staff were just in a bad mood but not experienced service like this for some time in Taipei. Won’t be going back.

Space is a bit small, crowded and pretty noisy but food is nice.

The very best of Taiwanese food. You will regret if you dont come to taste for yourself.

Mao Yuan Restaurant was a 2nd generation family restaurant in Taipei. The seating was comfortable. The waitstaffs were polite and attentive. The Pork Liver (粉肝was a cold dish. It just had a salty taste and lack the good natural flavor of pork liver. The Oyster in Garlic Sauce (蒜泥鮮蚵was fresh. The Salted Crispy Cuttle (鹽酥小卷was not crispy at all and was bland. The cuttles were kind of too large. The Stir Fry Water Lily (炒水蓮had an interesting texture. The Braised 3-Layer Pork (滷三層肉was a big disappointment. Its presentation was poor. The pork was not treated property to remove the unpleasant odor of pork. The flavor was below average.

Best Taiwanese cousins, must try! Reasonable price, great service, smaller portion is available with condition (check with the restaurent so you can try more dishes!!

Been to Taipei many times, but this is the first time I tried authentic Taiwanese food.It’s interesting, we ordered 13 different dishes... my favourite would be the pork+intestine dish, the pumpkin meehoon, the chai-por pork soup, the toasted fish roe, the cabbage stew, the sausage (heavenly), the fish pomfret was very fresh, the bamboo shoots was good....Will visit again.

Good place to try really authentic Taiwanese cuisine! And the portion is very satisfying, highly recommend for ppl gathering, sharing and enjoying the traditional meal!

Wonderful Taiwanese cuisine

Have read reviews about this restaurant via Instagram. The restaurant serves classic Taiwanese dishes. We went there without reservation but only waited few minutes as we were couple. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Good Taiwanese cuisine in home cooking style. They have been running for more than four decades and now just added a new extension a throw’s walk away from the original location. The cold boiled chicken is extremely good.
