Manyeleti Game Reserve - Wildlife and safari park in Tzaneen, South Africa
Lions everywhere. Tons of birds as well. I stayed at the Honeyguide camp. Its a bit lower in quality, but the game viewing is the same. Excellent. The reserve can do more to clean the garbage thats laying around is some places.
On my bucket list for before the end of the month
The gravel bumpy road from the main gate to the residential chalets is a pain 😫 😢, the comfortability of the chalets is perfect, nice kitchenette soft beds hot shower ohh i could go every month, the staff is so friendly but could do with learning other languages,we not all tsonga 🙄,although we didnt see animals i had a great time, definitely going back there, and the accommodation is affordable, the monkeys stole my chips 🤣🤣🤣and my son was shouting at them saying they should bring them back
We spend 2 night at Manyeleti Game Reserve and it was a great experience for us. We have seen the big 5 and many other wildlife. Overall a great experience
My 4 star rating is purely due to all the different animals we saw. The road signs need some work we had to download a map in order not to get lost in the reserve. Their booking systems needs a lot of work. We tried to book a camping spot at the main camp and were told that they are fully booked during the specified time then we asked for a chalet and were told that the chalets were also fulle booked. but when we went in as day visitors the camping site was not even 50% full and approximately 7 of the chalets were occupied.
Its difficult to give advice about Manyeleti because once you have been here, you know that its not a place for everyone... but the toilets are clean so I didnt have a problem... you can drive a normal town car to the main camp but after that I would only recommend a 4x4... if it rains, then the jeep track roads can become un-drivable by any except high ground clearance vehicles. This is a reserve that has several concession camps and many vehicles you meet will be game drive vehicles. Most of these drivers are pretty ok, but stay off the concession roads unless you want to meet the "dark side"...The main Manyeleti camp is rundown - although there has been painting and maintenance going on to a small extent. Its run by the Mpumalanga Parks & Tourism. The staff are mostly quite friendly, but they do cater for wedding parties and day visitors so the swimming pool area can get noisy... complaining about this may not get the reaction you had hoped for...Baboons and Hyena inside the camp need to be respected. The primates are intelligent and strong. They have learned how to open an unlocked car door and anything then found may be destroyed...I will probably come back again, but Im not sure Id openly recommend it... it can be peaceful and beautiful here, but not everyone will find it so. If you come here with an open mind... willing to take the rough with the smooth... willing to love whats here and forget what isnt... then I would say to give it a try.Oh, and I did find a power point in the campsite that worked... but I was prepared for having no power, I would suggest you do the same...
What an amazing place. I couldnt afford the luxury lodges so decided on the camping route. I was not dissapointed they also had very comfort chalets. I would recommend an awd or 4x4 here if you want to adventure onto the 4x4 roads. The game viewing can be tough but very rewarding. It is truly amazing and there is always something to see at the main dam. We saw lion, hyena, elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, wildebeest, zebra, and impala at the dam. The campsites are a little run down, they do have water, wash basin, dusbins two electrical outlets as well as a bench and chairs. The caravan sites have a level section for caravans. Beware the baboons they come through here daily. The chalets are comfortable and make for a pleasant stay. There is also th AM restuarant on site and pub that also sells charcoal. The staff ate all extremely friendly. Loved this place and will definitely be back.
go driving yourself or enjoy the luxury of one of the lodges or camps in the park. We have stayed there twice and have come to know Tintswalo as one of the best lodges in the area. This is not supposed to be an ad, just a report from two people who love Africa :-)
Saw some good sightseeing. Was a great trip.
Since I practically live in the place . I must say the tours are worth while
Great place to visit to c the big 5 also affordable prices for accommodation
Amazing experience of the big five.
I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. The place literally stinks and is dirty, even the pool
Awesome park right outside of Kruger. Really cool to be able to go on small dirt roads to be able to get closer to animals.
My friends and I had an absolute blast. I highly recommend this place. Big ups to Bongani and Charlie for being incredible hosts. Our driver had so much knowledge about the biome and animals, which made the game drive informative, worthwhile and fun. Bongani also made an effort to return my friends jacket to the place we were staying.
From the main entrance the staff was helpful, reception also the was also friendly I had a great weekend.
Beautiful tented camp. Drives were educational and the meals were delicious. Animals come right to the camp to drink water. What a memorable experience.
Nice place but complete run down.no maintenance at main camp.green pool and no care attitude from staff in camp.need proper managment.staff at gate friendly
The nature reserve borders Kruger and is brilliant. Tha main camp is run down and there is no shop. The roads are not in great condition for a small car. Accommodation was ok, a bit rustic but sufficient. Monkeys and Baboons a problem. Staff were helpful and friendly despite the place going to ruin in general.
I cant imagine a better reserve experience than what we had at Manyeleti. The crew of Distinctly Africa were very knowledgeable, incredible trackers, and all around great people to spend a weekend with. The animals we saw were numerous and quite active. It was an amazing experience we will never forget.
Brilliant experience, saw all the big 5 plus loads more.
Loved it there. Only downside is the lack of maintenance on the campsites and ablution facilities. The six days we were there they never emptied our dustbins. Apart from that i will definitely recommend it and hope to go back soon. The game drives are nice with lots of game to see, even the big 5.
Best place to be... quiet and alot of wildlife to see
Its a quiet place, good for tourists, filled with natures creatures.
Great staff, the animsls where great. I had the time of my life. The owner took the time each day to ask you how was your safari was, realy nice a must do.
Best place to see the wild life in Kruger area.
Brilliant Safari trips we were able to spot 4 out of Big Fives!! Was a nature treat!
Amazing. the location is incredible. Charlie et Heavy are attentive, considerate, kind.we loved the place.the tents are comfortable. the food is really good.
The safari was beautiful. Am not giving it 5 stars because the toilets by the main gate where dirty
The place was dry yesterday and the pools empty or dirty. Please work on the pools, because people like to cool down on this hot weather.
We had booked 4 nights in Kruger camps when we heard of this place so I booked a 4 day/3 nights safari at Honeyguide Lodge in Manyeleti Game Reserve and it was the best decision we ever made on a 3 week vacation/holiday in Africa. We saw the Big 5 within 24 hours. A pride of lions, one male and 5 females which we saw mating. We saw 2 leopards on separate nights. We saw plenty of Cape buffalo, elephants, white rhinos. We also got to see a cheetah, hyenas, zebra, hippo, giraffes, jackals, more lions with cubs, many types of antelopes, warthogs, baboons, velvet monkeys and on the last safari drive we got to see and follow through the bush wild African dogs, and endangered species. There were other many animals we saw.Out ranger was Fanuel who was very good and out spotter Johnson, who saw the cheetah at more than a kilometer away. Great job Johnson! The food was excellent, the tent was clean and comfortable, the camp was safe, the safari vehicles in excellent condition. Overall a great experience without having to go broke.More
Not recommend for people with small children, because of the hyenas walking around the camp at night. But for sure any nature lover will love the animal life and quiteness that Manyeleti brings. No big tour groups, just the birds singing in the trees 🎶 We live about 2hours from here and weve been coming here since i was a little girl. Best place to get away from everything!
The staff is just so friendly and helpful. Had a Great time
Amazing, so beautiful and a lot of animals
Friendly staff, close to nature!
Awesome adventure with lots of animals and fauna to see. We visited in winter and were able to see all the Big 5 within the first 2 days. (Side note:Manyeleti is the game reserve. Some of the reviews are for lodges within the game reserve. The reserve has very basic tent lodges all the way up to luxury lodges. Dont get the 2 confused.)
This is one of the most beautiful reserve in Mpumalanga province with big 5 species.
Fantastic game reserve with knowledgable game rangers.
Less crowded - however less variety of animals (at least during our visit - we spent one day in Krueger and one in Manyeleti). There is a nice hotel/campside just in front of the Reserve
Great experience! a good opportunity to be very close to the Big 5. We were at Pezulu Tree Lodge and we retained this game from 5 am to 11 and we were lucky to see all the animals and have a breakfast in the middle of the wild reserve.
Had a great time there. The workers there were very friendly and helpful they deserve a raise. At night after a slight drizzle we were visited by Hyenas which was pretty cool.
Brilliant elephant and lion sightings. Nature so beautiful.
The place its nice and quiet. The pools are clean. No shops or restaurants is a disadvantage
This was such a love changing experience! The Safari rides are well organized and educational. The service was exceptional with the most friendly hosts. Highly recommend this to anyone who is thinking of doing a Safari.
The reserve itself is nice but the main camp is terrible. Will not advise to go there. Camp sites are not up to standard and the bathrooms are very bad. Also not nice to be bothered by all the locals whom party, drink and play music till late at night. They also leave the camp a mess the next morning.
What an amazing experience! The private tours you can book with safari guides is absolutely worth it! You will come face to face to some truely magnificent animals, I would recommend booking multiple tours as you may need to be patient to see the animals you are hoping to see, trust me paitence pays off and is worth the wait! 😁 The private guided tours allow you to go off road and upclose and personal with all the wild animals.
Very friendly staff, great guide - twice and tracker - Douglas. Saw all big 5 on the first drive itself. Cannot go wrong with this amazing place. Highly recommend it. If you love nature, be here. Leopard roaring outside your tent in the night, can you imagine :-)
Great place.Their renevating making it a luxury place to stay.We saw almost the whole big 5.Well done guys.Next time we are going to stay in a tent.
A relatively small game reserve adjacent and open to Kruger National Park. Several private concessions with luxury accommodation, but basic self-catering accommodation also available at a fraction of the price at the main camp. Very few tourist vehicles reminiscent of a bygone era in national parks.
The reserve is not crowded due to the low number of lodges. We stay at Ndzhaka (self catering and Buffelshoek (fully cateredcamps. The animal sightings are very good with regular leopards being seen.
