Awesome church near River.A very beautiful place.
One of the Traditions is – when Tipu Sultan came from Mysore with his armors, destroying the churches and all things made by the Portuguese, reached near Pallippuram, banks of the River Chalakkudy. Then the nearby people gathered in the Church and prayed to Mother Mary. And then the place was covered with snow – even the season was Summer! There after this church is known as in the name of “Church of Our Lady of Snow” or “Manjumatha” in Malayalam.
One of the beautiful church in the shores of North Paravoor lake. The Mother Mary church was initially built by Portuguese in 1507 and the Dutch after conquering the Portuguese built the St Roch church adjacent to it in 1602. Both of it maintained here now. We can feel the presence of Mother Mary in the church. It is the 20th Basilica in India and the eighth in Kerala. Many miracles had happened in the life of many people who came here and prayed to the mother Mary. The church’s surrounding are always kept near and clean. Also there is an auditorium in the church. At evening and all we could sit the stone benches in front of church and enjoy the silent movement of the North Paravoor lake.
Beautiful and serene church in the shores of North paravoor lake. It was established in the late 16th century by the Portuguese and have a rich history & lore attached to the church. A must visit place if you are spiritual or if you are in to ancient architecture and lore.
