Mango Mansion™ in San Juan

This trip could have been so terrible if it wasn’t for the amazing staff and good setup of this hostel. Hurricane Fiona hit while we were here, and not only was the staff wonderful and made the experience of being stuck inside for days as enjoyable as possible, the hostel was equipped with a generator, they had plenty of food, and they collected water so we could flush the toilets when then water went out. I found out that most of the hostels in San Juan don’t even have a generator, so I feel very lucky to have been where I was during the storm.Muchas gracias a la gente de Mango Mansion! I will definitely come back again when it’s not hurricane season!

Everyone was very welcoming and friendly - staff and guests included. Great location in San Juan, walkable to neighborhoods, museums, and great food. Hostel manager Marilyn was so kind and helpful, and the staff cultivated a great social atmosphere. Comfortable, felt very safe, there was a/c for sleeping and, and overall I had a great time. Will definitely be returning.

Everyone was was nice with us. The location is perfect to go out at night and the beach during the day walking safely. I met so many amazing people during this trip.

I had the time of my life at mango mansion… i do every timeI first came here last July and I stayed two weeks. It was my very first hostel experience and it was absolutely phenomenal. The owner, Charles, comes by every day so I got to know him very early on and i liked his vibes, and I have been coming back ever sinceI went back the second time for New Years, and charles had renovated the place, and he had remembered me. It was nice to see the improvements, and it made me feel more at home knowing that the owner actually makes the effort to build connections with the guestI returned again a month later and once again Charles remembered me immediately and even asked me about my life and remembered things from previous conversations months priorI returned this time again, on a1 way ticket, just like every other time.. and I ended up staying at mango mansion for 2 months straight. I literally left at the two month mark just because I felt that it was enough.. however I don’t have anywhere else to be for the next 2 weeks, so I might go back. I like this place that muchOver the time that i have been here, I have never once had a problem nor did i witness anything major happen.I have NEVER seen/heard of anything getting stolen. There are cameras at the important locations that make you feel safe.The staff laptop sits on the kitchen counter and everyone knows its completely fine there.There are lockers to use if you need the security, but after about 1 day you will realize that you don’t even have to lock you room door, it is a completely safe atmosphere. I left my tablet on the counter overnight many times, and never once panicked.The best part about mango mansion, is, and always will be, the staff. Charles does an amazing job picking the staff. They always come together like a family. And i was alway lucky enough to be accepted in every time that i visited. Everyone was.The manager, Marilyn, Is one of the best people that i have ever met in my entire life. She is a genuine friend of mine. And she is Puerto Rican, so kudos to Charles for hiring from the island.He actually does a very good job at that. When i was there more than half the staff had roots to PR so it felt very genuine, and the others were either international, or from the United States with the intentions on permanently moving to the island.. everything always felt genuine. Many of my life long friends are staff from mango mansion or extend guestsThe very first person that checked me into mango mansion, a year ago, (Jasminewas back at mango mansion my last day this last trip. And the person staff that took me to the beach the very first time, his name is benny, and he was working there again this summer. He has become like brother to me, im going to visit him in Germany..I can not underestimate how amazing of an atmosphere mango mansion was and still is.Every time I go there Charles has renovations ongoing, (shout out papito, he is extremely kind and talented)I am always excited to go back and see what has changedThe location is also amazing as well. You can hear la placita every night. You can walk to Walmart in 16 min. You can walk to Superman in 12. You can walk to cvs and wal greens in 8. All in different directions.At the cvs if you make a right, the road literally ends at condado beachYou can not get better located than mango mansionI would like to give personal shout outs to the current staff member still working there named Michael.. he walked me out of the gate my last day. And he too became one of the best people that i have ever met. He did a great job making me feel welcome a mango.I can not given enough credit to Marilyn for the vibe she sets and always be a top notch professional. She’s my one of my best friends on the island, but she never once blurred the lines between friendship and being the manager of mango mansion, and i respect her dearly for that.I travel for a living and mango mansion is top 2 of my favorite hostel experiences of all time, and the other one in the top 2 doesn’t exist anymore.

Best location! 2 min walk to la placita and about 6 min walk to restaurants/beach. Everyone was so friendly the moment you walk in and guests were very welcoming. It is clean and organized, felt like home.

Everyone was so friendly there. Both the staff and other guests welcomed you as soon as you got there. The suggestions on what to do or where to eat were great. The location even better. The hostel is so close to the beach, bars, grocery store, and restaurants. I always felt relatively safe if I went out walking around the neighborhood alone.

Mango Mansion was the highlight of our trip! We made great friends, the location was exceptional and the process for staying was seamless. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I am most certainly going to go back in the future. Super appreciative of all the staff as they really helped in creating a sense of safety and building community among all guests.

My time at the Mango Mansion was lovely. The people there truly make the hostel feel like a home. I was staying in Purple Room, the 12 bedroom one, with the bottom bunk right across from the door. This, combined with being next to La Placita, had me prepared for the worst, but I was pleasantly shocked. Within a few hours of being there I had been checked in and greeted by all of the current guests. I then proceeded to have 3 of the best days of my life, hanging with the people in the hostel and experiencing San Juan. The room was well cooled, clean sheets, could use a bit more privacy but overall no complaints. Not for the lightest sleeper, although ear plugs are provided, but unparalleled access to La Placita and new friends

Pros:Great beds with individual lights, good storage, kitchen just what I needed, friendly staff- special shout out to the woman who helped me find my car rental keys when I misplaced them!, good location, & especially CLEAN. Breakfast was passable; Ive had better & worse at other hostels, & mostly would have just liked the eggs to be consistently cooked all the way & a bit more fruit available.Con: staff made no effort to enforce quiet hours, so every other night I had to (forcefullyask groups of ppl in room to take their loud convos while getting ready to go out outside the room (always after 11pm, sometimes after midnight, usually sounding like party level noise& many times they came back loud and chatty as well. (I already was sleeping with earplugs & a eye mask knowing there is always some noise at a hostel!, this was excessive). Of course staff isnt in the room, but a reminder to everyone around 10:30pm that quiet hours will be starting and/or literally any attempt to enforce quiet hours beyond notification of them at check in would go a long way to helping night life/night owls people and morning people coexist. I know some others looking for some quiet find alternatives to staying there because of the noise, & I would strongly consider elsewhere for another visit just because of this even though I enjoyed so many other aspects of the hostel. A secondary issue would be that the mosquitoes are so much worse there than anywhere I went on the island; I hope you are able to get this resolved (I am sure the neighboring propertys neglect isnt helping!since almost all the seating is outside, & being coated in deet all day is not my ideal way to spend vacation.Minor suggestion that I think would make the staff even better: it seemed like staff suggestions largely came from personal experience & knowledge; it would have been great for them to have a bit more knowledge about the standard info I usually get at hostels, like local affordable places to eat, tour/activity suggestions & the like. Some consolidation of shared knowledge seemed needed.

I was here around 2 weeks and threated everybody really well, the hosts made me feel like home.What happened is that a new host appeared today 08/05/2022 in the morning (dont know his nameand he was very rude.I delayed 20min to checkout because I was working and finishing a meeting, than I was just hanging out in the purple room talking to people that I met and he was totally rude when approaching me: "You already did the checkout, you shouldnt be here, please leave the property".I understand there are rules, but we are in a hostel, and specially this one that I felt home, I though I could still hang out and talk to my friends. I understand that I was wrong, but at the same time this is not the way you talk to a client. Like I said, during my stay I didnt do anything wrong and always respected everybody.

Mango Mansion was an amazing experience living with others, going to the beach’s, exploring the jungles, hitting the clubs and casinos. The staff did an amazing job cleaning and preparing daily breakfasts. Sleeping and our bathroom was also comfortable and clean. Thankyou mango mansion!

I had an amazing stay at Mango Mansion. All of the hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable. Corey was very kind while checking me in and provided me wonderful recommendations and directions to local attractions. Although the area can be noisy at night, I brought earplugs and slept perfectly because the bed & bedding were so comfortable. The dorms and bathrooms were tidy and kept clean. Wonderful shared community areas within the hostel to enjoy. I loved that the hostel was within 5-10 min walks of cafes, parks, beaches, nightclubs, and restaurants- great location! Thank you for a wonderful stay, I will be back soon!

At the end of a long travel day, I want a clean room and quiet atmosphere. (Cold A/C is a plusCouldnt be happier with my choice to stay here. It was a bit more expensive but completely worth it. Very well managed and great employees, especially Jeron. There was some city noise, which is to be expected but I always travel with earplugs anyways. The other guests were extremely considerate and quiet once people went to bed.

This place made sure to make me feel at home while me and my friends were staying there! The location was fantastic, but managed to make us feel safe as well! The people working there were so nice and welcoming, every morning I would look forward to seeing and talking to them! The facilities were very clean and there was always something to do. Honestly, I cant say enough nice things about Mango Mansion! Thank you for making our hostel experience an amazing one!

Staying at Mango Mansion was the best decision I made for my trip to San Juan. The staff was very helpful and welcoming and fostered a feeling of safety and community. I would recommend this hostal to any solo traveler or group of friends looking to meet new people and have a fun, safe, and affordable experience. I will 10/10 stay here again in the future!

Met amazing people and most of the staff was incredible.The location is good, close to La Placita, but this can also make the place quite loud - so of you are not a party person, this wouldnt be much of your vibe.The room could be cleaned more often, but the facilities in general were nice.Breakfast in the morning was really good :)

This is one of the most fun hostels Ive been too. Very friendly people. And even animals are really friendly (dogs, a cat, a bird).My only non-positive comments are: Even though Hostelworld said my card would just be charged for the small downpayment, the hostel charged myy whole 5 nights to my credit card even before I left home.And this can be plus or minus, but you need your key to go out the main gate. I guess thats good for security--just never saw it before.The people who run the hostel are very, very nice. Great place!

One of my favorite hostels Ive ever stayed out. Not the cheapest, but lives up to the price. All the staff when I was there were fantastic too -- Megan, Amanda, Finn, Lukas & Wallace. Special shoutout to Jose (the managerand Megan for their cooking skills.

I stayed here for about 10 nights and I had a good time. The staff were nice and the facilities were good. Its also within walking distance to La Placita which is cool to go out for night life if you like.

The staff is great here and I highly recommend this hostel for your trip to PR. It was always clean and maintained. I’ve slept on some rough hostel surfaces in the past and the beds were much more comfortable than I expected. The indoor and outdoor spaces here are very fitting if you would rather take time to yourself or hang out with a group. The appliances in the kitchen and washer/dryer are a huge plus, especially if you’re staying long-term. The hostel is in a great location and I felt safe while staying here. Definitely consider Mango Mansion when looking for where to stay.

Mango Mansion made our experience in Puerto Rico so fun!The environment is great, a lot of good people to hang with, the staff were very friendly and Jose the manager was very nice and helpful.Other than the location is amazing- so close to the nightlife and the beach.Highly recommend!

We stayed there for a week and couldn’t have had a better time there!Jose and all the crew that works there was great, and everyone very friendly. Definitely recommend and if I go back to Puerto Rico I will for sure staying there again!

Clean. Safe. Well stocked. Well managed. Definitely a party hostel. Great place to meet new friends. It’s not very quiet or private. It’s a very social environment. All the bad reviews are from guests who don’t know how to act right. Be courteous and polite and you’ll have a great time.

so many mosquitoes! but at least you guys try! I love the lamp, and the sprays you provided there, low stress, good people, great set-ups, wish I coulda stayed longer! maybe I will next time soon, jose is so cool! so is megan and the rest of the staff! the animals really are awesome, thank you so much for the hospitality!

Everything about my stay at Mango Mansion was enjoyable, and clean but the best part was the employee Jose. He was incredibly cool and kind. He has a pet parrot at the hostel named Eydie, and he let me hold her and pet her! It was such a cool experience! :)

This is my first time travelling alone. Employees there were friendly and essy going. Rooms were clean and they have pets that are well trained. I will be coming back soon and I recommend to try this place out. You wouldn’t regret :)

I am so grateful to have chosen Mango Mansion for my stay in Puerto Rico. Its the perfect location, close to La Placita, beautiful beaches, and right in the city with great access to Old San Juan. I felt totally safe and secure, and it was awesome to meet new people. Johnny was an exceptional welcome with the best vibes; José kept the dogs fed and everyone on their toes; Amanda, Wallace, Finn, Megan, Lukas - the whole crew is overflowing with kindness and charisma. I will definitely be back!

Overall had a great experience. The staff was awesome, the pets were adorable, and the hostel is located only a few minutes away from everything. If youre looking to experience Puerto Rico, come check out this place. You wont regret it. Ill be sure to be back again in the future.

For a hostel experience, this was beyond what we were expecting. The staff was friendly and sociable, and everything was clean. The mansion is only a couple minutes from condado beach and la placita. It was totally worth it for the cost!

I have never had such a good experience at a hostel. José (the managerwas an outstanding host. Full of kind positive people. Beds were very comfortable, rooms and hostel were clean and was an awesome place to hang out at. Perfect location for beach and clubs. My stay could not have been better

Jose went out of his way to make sure I was well accommodated.I have been to this hostel multiple times and every single time Jose has been an upstanding host.Every time I visit. He makes me feel at homeAmanda and Wallace have been extremely helpful as well. Always lending a helping hand and guiding me towards wherever I want to be.

This hostel is amazing! I made lots of friends and had and had a fun time. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I even left my bag out in the common area overnight by accident and the staff locked it up for me to keep it safe. I would definitely stay here!!

Mango Mansion has a great hostel environment with people from everywhere looking to explore the city and have fun together. Its very close to a nightlife area (less than 5 minutesif you want to party. You can hear the music a little bit, but earplugs or being a heavy sleeper helps. The people there are good, good breakfast, and the staff are excellent. The front door requires a key so its safe. Lots of bathrooms and the staff does clean the place everyday. I recommend this hostel if youre looking to interact with people, be close to the beach/nightlife, hang out, plan the next parts of your trip, or just have fun.

This was my first ever hostel and I loved it! The house has a chill vibe with different hangout areas. The kitchen is big, two fridges, lots of bathrooms and the staff are great! The co-hosts work hard and the hosts are knowledgeable of the island and San Juan and so friendly! The owner pops in from time to time so you know he loves his property. The guests are all pleasant and I was there for 2 wks so I met A LOT OF PEEPS! Clost to the clubs, close to the beach, fine dining and old San Juan...just the best time for my first visit to PR & a hostel.

Good hostel, very safe and well located. good for solo travelers. Great crowd. Its pretty much your standard hostel with all the amenities you would expect. The price was definitely way too steep, I was expecting a much fancier place for this price, hence the four stars. There are surprisingly few hostel options in the area which is why I suspect its priced so high.

This was my first time ever staying at a hostel. It was a great experience over all. Clean friendly. The group of fellow travelers is what really made this a great place. I would give five stars but a few of the employees were less Hospitable then others, others went out of there way to make sure you had everything you needed. Safe. Clean. Secure. Accommodating. Great location, easy highway access. They did not have secure parking for my rental car but I did know this ahead of time.

Find that the quality of visitors that choose to stay here is excellent. Have had frequent excursions in & around the island w/ other guests, as well as w/staff. Staff will assist you w/ ANY questions you may have, along w/ suggestions on things to do. he hostel is kept clean, & the morning breakfast is terrific! Highly recommend you try a stay here, doubt that you will not find it excellent!

Arrived during a big storm, but staff were super friendly checking me in and showing me around in between mopping and bailing out the rainwater. The bunks were Super comfy and I slept great! Breakfast was substantial and tasty consisting of waffles, toast, fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs. The hostel cat and 2 dogs were very friendly, though I hear the cat can be picky (sorry, Bobbi!).Within walking distance of La Placita, the farmers market there and Condado beach.Would definitely stay here again.

If you’re looking for the party, look no further than Mango Mansion. Just with like 20 patrons in the hostel, it was still a party! I can’t wait to go back when it has a more full occupancy. I had the best night out I’ve ever had on vacation in San Juan that night. I’ve been to Las Vegas, Nashville, New York, Berlin, and Amsterdam. La Placita (like two blocks from the hostelprobably the best. I’m a solo female traveler so safety is important and I felt super safe and secure. The outside looks different than the pictures but once inside the gate everything was good. The staff was amazing. The manager Jose took care of us, Steve was helpful and super friendly, and the rest of the staff and owner were friendly and answered all of the many questions I had. It really is a Caribbean vibe: chilled out and a party at the same time.

If you are looking for a place that feels like a home away from home, Mango Mansion is the place for you. The employees were very friendly and easy going. They took us on a excursion to hidden spots. The bathrooms were always very clean and the included breakfast was great! It was so hard to leave! If you want a great experience with both locals and people from all over the world, you should definitely stop by Mango Mansion.

Excellent hostel - really enjoyed my stay here of one week +. The staff, especially Jose, made me and my friend feel right at home. One of the most social hostels Ive stayed at overall and met some great people throughout the week. The free breakfast is a great time for socializing. The hostel threw a great cookout on NYE as well. Location is amazing and can walk 3 mins to go out at La Placita or 5 mins to the beach. Will definitely be back at Mango Mansion next time Im in San Juan -highly recommend.

The good:- incredibly friendly culture/people- breakfastThe bad:- hard to find staff with questions/issues. I don’t know who they are and they are busy up keeping the hostel so are hard to find.- cold showers- no mirrors in most of the bathroomsThings I would’ve liked to see:- locker storage large enough for laptops- exiting hostel without needing to use a key- parking- better flexibility on reservations that get longer/shorter/or move. Most hostels are much better here.All things said I will likely return here as indeed it is the best hostel in PR and there is a lot of good here. Could be much better too.Another comment. Had some issues with checkout. Someone had managed to check in with my name and that created unnecessary complication. Was resolved without too much time.

My friend and I stayed at Mango Mansion for a few nights, this was both of our 1st times at a Hostel. It was absolutely the best!! There is not 1 thing I would’ve changed. It was the best experience. The whole staff were amazing!! They were so helpful with information, and great people to hang out with in the evenings.Breakfast every morning was a plus!! Location was perfect! I’ve never stayed at a hostel before and had such a great time. I mean the staff not only addressed every need but made food and hang out recommendations and went out with us. Laura and Conner were my favorites but all of the staff were great. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a hostel in Puerto Rico that u stay at Mango Mansion. U won’t regret it.

This Hostel is amazing, the location is great, right next to some beautiful beaches and lots of great places to eat and drink. The accommodations are good and free breakfast of waffles and fresh tropical fruit every morning is a great way to start the day. But the best thing about this place Is the staff. Jose, Laura, Connor, Isaac, and the rest of the staff were the highlight of my stay there. They guided us through the rainforest, took us out to cool bars and showed us all the best beaches to hang out at. I would highly recommend Mango Mansion to anyone visiting San Juan!

San Juan is an incredible city and Mango Mansion is right where you want to be if youre looking to soak up as much of the area as you can in a short time, like I was. Beaches, club, food, and the main strip are all just minutes away on foot. If for whatever reason you dont want to go out, the overall vibe of the hostel is fantastic in its own right. The staff is incredibly friendly and quick to help with any issues. Exactly the type of people I hope to meet when traveling in a new area.

Had an amazing stay at Mango Mansion! All the staff members were welcoming, silly, and caring - Jasmine, Ken, Georgia, & Jose, especially the owner Charles! This was my first solo trip, I am 21 so I was slightly worried but Charles reassured me it would be a fun trip! I am vegan, and thankfully managed to find many vegan options on the island! I was also accommodated for it within the breakfast options - there is toast, plenty of fruit varieties, tea, and coffee. I met an abundance of people within 6 full days - 5 nights, planned nothing before coming, and got lucky enough to tag along to others plans. The location is also ideal - walking distance to supermarket, bars, clubs, the beach, restaurants, and affordable Uber rides to and from historic cities and sites in the city. When I am back in San Juan, I will definitely return to Mango Mansion for a fun, good time!! 10/10 will recommend!!

I stayed in this hostel for 4 days and the vibe is amazing. The people are really nice and I made incredible friends. The staff are VERY fun and helpful. We had a little communication problem on arrival and the staff José (I dont remember if thats the namewas very kind and nice. However, we need to talk about some points that could make the environment more pleasant: the bathrooms were dirty, there was beard hair all over the sink, it smelled like pee and the toilets were dirty. Our room was clean, I have nothing to complain about the room, clean bed linen and we didnt find bed bugs. There is no hot water in the bathrooms. And it would be MUCH easier if it had a front desk, the communication would be easier. Anyway, we already knew it wouldnt be a resort but for the price and the people I still think its worth it. I really liked the people, staffs, EXCELLENT location!! Close to some really cool spots and it was very easy to find uber. I would stay again.
