81 Trafalgar St, Brighton BN1 4EB, United Kingdom, Brighton
Popular French-run eatery serving Gallic classics and daily specials from breakfast to dinner.
We popped in for dinner this evening. We hadnt booked but my friend had heard good things so we thought we would give it a go. Im so glad we did. Im plant based but they had run out of the vegan option. I asked the staff if they had anything else and the chef agreed to do me a flat bread with veg. This was mo ordinary flat bread and veg. It was so good. And Im so appreciative of them just saying yes, well do you something. Just lovely. My friends food was really good too.As is the way with all modern restaurants it was a bit noisy but thats nit picking. Thoroughly enjoyed it and Ill definitely go back.Thank you x
Really delicious breakfast food. The full mangetout is a full English equivalent served on a sourdough to soak up all the juices and was amazing! We also had the French toast and eggs Florentine which were equally delicious. Highly recommend for a breakfast spot.
Really mediocre, overpriced, food and incredibly rude staff….. the service felt very rushed, to the point where they were stacking chairs on our table before we had got up to leave and then swore at us!! So many much, much, better restaurants in Brighton on every level ….avoid at all costs
Amazing food! My favourite breakfast in Brighton for sure, never been disappointed. Staff can sometimes seem a little rushed. I try and make it down there most weekends. Reasonably priced for the quality, coffee is great too. You must get the tomato compote!
Good menu very tasty and reasonably priced. Friendly staff
Been for breakfast, lunch and brunch. The food here is so good, whether your going for French toast, a grill some, a mixture of small plates for lunch or simply a coffee and croissant I would recommend
Such a cute place and the food is absolutely amazing! It can get quite busy, but even if the food takes a bit longer, it is 100% worth it! This is probably one of the best brunch places Ive ever been to!
Always have a great breakfast here when visiting Brighton. Good coffee and vegan breakfast is excellent. Friendly staff too.
Have the eggs mangetout or the pain perdu. Its a great sadness in my life that Ill never manage both in one sitting.
Amazing food, cosy atmosphere and lovely staff! Favourite in Brighton!
Slow and somewhat inattentive service. Nice food but poached eggs were hard.
The atmosphere was nice, the service was friendly but at times a little slow and lacked attention (some cutleries were missing and was hard to get the staff attention so had to walk over to the bar), the food was hearty, Bloody Mary could do with a little more flavour and excitement.
This place is very lovely. The bartender was electric and was dancing and whistling to the music i thought that was really funny keep it up dude. The mushrooms and spinach are very well seasoned. The eggs are amazing i can eat these for the rest of my life. The sausage is different from what i am used to but i have a lousy american palette. Eat the bread after you eat everything on top because all the flavors are soaked into the bread and it tastes really good. This place is great and had great vibes 🫡
The best eggs Benedict Ive ever eaten on really good gluten free toast from a local bakery. The normal bread was equally good.
Good coffee and very tasty croque madame. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent Food and Service! Certainly come back to enjoy again!
Really good food and super service.Nice to sit outside on the wooden chairs.Fantastic coffee.
Have previously been for both brunch and dinner and received good service and lovely food, however sometimes a true test is when things go a little less smoothly. Unfortunately my partner had a long hair buried in his food which was rather unpleasant, but of course these things very occasionally happen. He has had this once before and that restaurant, fairly similar to mange tout in other ways, offered a new replacement dish and also did not charge for the dish at all. Perhaps this was just a sign of a place with exceptional service, but I felt mange tout let themselves down by just giving a 10% discount, cheekily still adding a 10% service charge so essentially no discount whatsoever. When I mentioned to a waiter that I was a little disappointed given the high regard I had previously had for mange tout and the superior experience in a similar situation elsewhere, he just shrugged and told me "well we did replace the dish". Personally I feel that is an absolute minimum to be expected in such a situation and certainly not going above and beyond as it seemed they were implying. Its a real shame as I would have hoped they might handle the situation better. I will choose the other restaurant next time!
Excellent brunch (incredible selection too, Im definitely coming back for some French Toast!), brilliant vibe and above all lovely staff! Deffo wont be my last visit! An essential eatery for anyone visiting Brighton
What a shame !!!!What happened to this place ?I left a great review last time we went there but everything has gone so bad. Staff very unfriendly and stressed, running everywhere all over the place and giving attitude to customers.Even if the food is still great, I will never go back to this restaurant.I was recommending that place to all my friends…. So disappointing !
Awful food. Cold, flavourless and bland. Coffee also bad. Tastes watered down. Would not recommend.
Fantastic French (with local influencesrestaurant in the North Laines. We are there twice for brunch on Sunday, and well certainly go back for more.
Lovely staff, great food, reasonable prices, dog friendly. Highly recommend the Moules Mariniere. Food for two plus a glass of wine each was a little over £50. Would go back.
The best eggs benedict Ive ever had.Came back here for lunch almost 3 years later and still as good as it ever. Delicious well balanced dishes and good wine too.
Just finishing up a delicious breakfast - tasty, filling and well worth it. The staff are friendly and helpful and I will definitely return when Im in town.
Excellent food and service. We had breakfast and dinner on 2 different days.Highly reccomend.
First time in a French restaurant, and had great experience with French cusine!! I loved the chiken liver dish!! All other foods were just great!!! Cant say more except that it was great!!
Lovely twist on a cooked breakfast. Good service and nice range of food and drink. Merci!
Delicious food and drink and a really calm and friendly environment. Super glad we stopped in. ❤
Great selection of tasty food at a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly and helpful, plus provided quick service. Well worth a visit.
Went here for brunch and coffee, really lovely place with excellent food. I had the croque madame (picture doesn’t do it justicewith an americano.
Brilliant breakfast/ brunch place, offering delicious food and coffee! Loving the scent of French vibes there too 🇫🇷 Also a wonderful place being pet-friendly, dog-friendly, LGBTQ-friendly etc ❤️Highly recommend🙌🏼💖
Delicious dishes with top quality ingredients and reliably high standards of service and cooking. Great atmosphere too, bustling but not so noisy you cant hold a conversation. Must-try dishes are the steak tartare, any of the eggs with hollandaise and the croque madame.
See tripadvisor review on photos. This place was lovely
Classic French Bistro food that ironically is very difficult to find in France these days.Quality ingredients with generous portions.I had a version of eggs Benedict, my wife had a croque monsieur , our friends had an omelette and a Mackerel Tetine. All excellent.Good value for money as well.
Incredible food, equally incredible staff and dog friendly!
Nowhere better in Brighton for a casual brunch with a glass of (naturalwine. French(ishmenu is approachable and exciting amd the staff are great. *****
Gem of a find in Brighton, run by passionate French business partners, very well presented and delicious food, excellent wines and in depth knowledge by the FoH. Wish I was more local to go more often.
Food was such high quality. Seared scallops (locally sourced), crab gnocchi and samphire. With a very small but perfect bit of a seafood sauce. After eating, pot of tea came in a teapot (loose leafwith a small egg timer set to when tea should be ready to pour. Small touches like that made it feel more like a 4 star restaurant than a nice cafe style bistro. Lovely staff, friendly but professional. Pretty amazing! First time eating here. Def not the last :)
Our dinner today was simply perfect. I had a vegetarian dish and my partner the pork casserole. Great wine and beer to match our tasty and beautifully presented food. We shared the vegan chocolate dessert and I thought I died and went to heaven. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices very reasonable for such quality. Recommend!
Best hummus tartine I have ever had! Love it when the vegetables are warm. Also the hollandaise sauce tastes amazing!
The best wine, best brunch, best dinner and best staff in Brighton. A must-see for this modern traditional homely French cuisine. Dog friendly and just make sure to book on weekend mornings because it’s the most popular place in town for brunch. You don’t want to miss out!!
Right off the Lanes, in the heart of Brighton, this lovely little independent bistro serves up delicious seasonal dishes, using local and sustainable ingredients. There is an amazing choice on the daily changing menu board of small and large plates. Brunch or dinner, you can’t go wrong.
Loved this brunch place. The croque madame is to die for and they make good coffees and juices. That said, my only feedback is that the cafe should have let us know that the tomato sauce/paste was chargeable before offering it to us in replacement of ketchup. They also charged an extra coffee to our bill, which is not ideal if we werent attentive enough to check that we ordered the right items. Nonetheless, would recommend and come back again :)
Not cheap... But worth it. Food was outstanding and the place has a pretty laid back feel to it. You could do a lot worse for lunch!
Very nice discovery! The staff was very friendly and the food was really good, they have lots of different dishes and also gluten free options. We really enjoyed our brunch there.
This is an amazing little bistro, serving up dinners way above the level you might imagine. Highly recommended, really worth a go. Portions are good and food prices good value. The wines - all natural - are great too, though do push your bill up... and there are no beers or spirits on offer.A super-lovely touch is their loyalty card: get a stamp for every £25 spent (including on wine), to earn a £25 voucher. Marvelous!
Popped in for brunch - staff were friendly, service was efficient, food was absolutely delicious! Ordered the Egg Mange Tout - perfectly poached on crunchy sour dough toast & a bed of wilted spinach & tomato compote. All slathered in rich, creamy hollandaise. Heaven! Evening menu looked delish too
The croque madame is SO good. The bread is freshly baked and amazing, its not cheap but its not outragous either, especially for the quality of the food. 100% recommend.
Consistently good food and service. Great brunch. Theres a reason I keep coming back!
