This restaurant is small, but it is quaint, aesthetically pleasing and the staff are polite & courteous! The food & drink are delicious (especially so for their tamarind drink & falafel sandwich), reasonably priced the seating areas are clean & appropriately spaced; Dining in has been a terrific experience!Overall, its a wonderful little place thats out of the way, quiet, and good eats!

It might not look like much from the outside but this place is great. Such a chill atmosphere. There are choices between sandwiches (pitasor plates. They have the best falafel and Baba ghanoush.

Game Changer: Lamb or chicken schwarma *with* fries & baba ganouj! So delicious & filling. One of the few late night spots in New Haven. The tea & mango juice are refreshing as well. Baklava is on point too! They’re also great with catering—everyone loved the food!

I don’t want to publish bad pictures but falafel overcook for not say burnt, we asked for chicken shawarmas and received lamb but didn’t notice because the first half was tomato and lettuce by the time we noticed we had eaten half of the sandwich even if you want to say was a salad shawarma the dressing wasn’t savory. Will not come back.

Food is good but prices have increased in the past few years and its now pretty expensive for what you get. Adding a small amount of hummus to your sandwich costs over $2. Its grab and go food but not grab and go prices.

Terrible food. Its hard to mess up a shawarma but they managed to do that. My chicken shawarma had no taste and on top of that it was half a sandwich so the price for the food quantity is also way off. They forgot my side addition of fried and soda so attention to detail is also lacking.

Nice branch to the classic NYC shop. Feels authentic. Staff is super busy with take out orders. I wish it was a little cleaner and a little more personal.

Still an essential New Haven restaurant, but feels like its slipped a little from its height. The rear parking area has been replaced with outdoor dining, which is a great change. The food is still delicious. Prices have climbed a bit. Overall still worth a visit.

We had the Mamouns meat combo and the Falafel sandwich. For around 25 bucks, the meat combo had alot of burnt chicken and lamb which was obv was overcooked and chewy. The Falafel sandwich was really good though. Would go back only for the Falafel sandwich.

The food was soooo delicious but why I gave it only 3 stars is because their overall appearance of the store was really not nice at all. They literally had like 3 carpets hanging from the walls which were probably so dusty and God knows how old and long they were unwashed for. Even though Im not claustrophobic but the bathroom was like super small I could barely even wash my hands or fit myself in there. This place needs to move either the location to a bigger place or some major inside work because just eating inside the place was very u pleasant and disgusting looking which kinda spoils your appetite.

I’ve been a happy customer of Mamoun’s for years and it used to be one of my favorite New Haven spots. However, after visiting yesterday for lunch I was sadly disappointed. The prices have increased and the portions are reduced, which wouldn’t be as much of a problem if the food tasted good, which Mamoun’s is known for. However, the falafel sandwich I received was cold, rather empty, and it was not flavorful as their sandwiches are known to be, which was surprising to me. I asked to get hot sauce and they never added it to the order. I’m not sure if the restaurant is under new management but it just isn’t the same anymore. It’s sad to say but I don’t think I will return here anymore.

I used to always come here for the cheap falafel sandwiches. Today I ordered a tabbulleh salad and my friend got a spinach flaky pastry. We didnt finish either and threw them away. 😳 The spinach was over spiced, and the salad lacked salt and acid. Disappointing, I have to remove this place from my New Haven food tour.

Falafel sandwich was good but chicken shawerma is rather disappointing; tons of spices to mask the low quality chicken’s taste, I threw the sandwich after a couple of bites

After the second visit, I found that food to be very good, but inconsistent between the two experiences. Overall, though, the experience was very good and I would recommend Mamouns for both the food and the experience. It has the air of being a neighborhood place, with a certain air of familiarity that can seem too familiar at first. Ultimately, I find it charming and inviting. The decor inside seems like it was accumulated over the years, as it probably was, and adds to the charm. On my first visit, I thought the food was very good - both the falafel sandwich and the baba ghanoush - and on the second I thought it was still good, but less so. I suppose that should be expected from a neighborhood place where consistency might be less of a focus then an industrialized chain restaurant. I enjoyed both visits and will come back.

Some of these bad reviews are really reaching…please don’t be discouraged-I urge you to try.Our food was great as per usual. 4 falafel sandwiches, Syrian rice, stuffed grape leaves and of course a mango juice. We inhaled it all.Sam our waitress was awesome. Made our experiencing that much better :She was handling maybe 6 other tables and she was friendly, helpful and attentive.Even sold me on a hoodie! I’ve been going to Mamoun’s since maybe 2011? And I finally have a souvenir because of her. Cheers

I’m from Houston and Mediterranean places pack your plate with meat, rice, salad, pita bread etc all for under $15. You literally get two meals in one . This was the most skimped Mediterranean food I’ve had (little chicken and lettuceon top of it having zero flavor and costing $17. The chicken was literally tasteless…if you’re eating this you don’t know real Mediterranean food. Adding rice is even an up-charge…. Never coming back

It is not the place of you are familiar with authentic Falafel and shawarma in Middle East. Leave to others to try it. What they called shawarma is chicken with Maglooba seasoning. Falafel is digesting. The place is so dirty tables and rest rooms.

Some of these bad reviews are really exaggerating, I urge you to try it out!The food is always amazing, I usually get the lamb shawarma plate with baklava or chocolate halavah. I don’t like overly sweet things so the mango juice was just perfect. They even grow the mint for the lemonade themselves in their garden. If you can handle spice, I recommend the pepper hot sauce on your meat dishes. The customer service is very nice and helpful, the dishes always comes quickly. Even the environment is comfortable, with music & colored lamps, I always dine in. If you feel you have a bad experience, I urge to come back another day, the business is sometimes busy from university student online orders. Don’t let it discourage you from truly experiencing Mamouns :)My mom has been eating at Mamouns since she was a teenager and now I am, it’s honestly such an amazing family restaurant!

I called to confirm whether the meat was zabiha halal since I have moved to the area recently, and the person who picked up (dont know if it was the owner, or just an employeewas one of the rudest people I have encountered. Told me that I should just trust him and not concern myself with these trivial matters. He also rudely told me not to give him dawah. As if asking whether the meat is halal or not is giving dawah. Dude, dont tell me what I should want as a customer. If you have it, then I will purchase, and if not, then dont try to convince me that your product is satisfactory for me. And next time, dont feel threatened by a simple question, and insult dawah as a result. Wont ever be eating from this place ever, and dont recommend it to anyone else given how dishonest that person was.

I went here for a lemonade and a dessert. The reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars was because the lemonade was actually good. The customer service however was terrible. When we got there the restaurant was empty. Even though two people were standing behind the counter, we were not acknowledged, no biggie but it would have made the experience easier. we placed an order on the touch screen menu then sat down for a while, realizing no one was moving or making an effort to complete our order I decided to ask when it would be ready. The lady behind the counter was visibly annoyed and gives us a generic “in five minutes” response. After that they started working on the order and we were out of there in almost 15 minutes… for a lemonade, in an empty restaurant. The lemonade was literally right next to them, but they were too busy talking and ignoring customers. The only thing we understood from their little conversation is one woman saying “I don’t care” over and over.

I’ve been coming to Mamoun’s for 40 years(!and from the first falafel, it’s always been a great place to enjoy a delicious middle eastern bite to eat. Consistently the best falafel in New Haven, easy parking, friendly atmosphere and staff, cheap prices. Open 365. Love the cardamom ice tea and the hot tea. Sweet deserts. Eat in or grad and go.

Do not go to Mamoun’s. We dined here about a year ago and it was great. Something changed, though, and we’re sure to never go back. Spent $36 on two sandwiches, one of them a “combo” which I thought meant pita AND fries. Nope, just a few fries on top of the pita. Portions were absolutely tiny for the steep price. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. What a shame.

One of the worst take outs I have had in over 4 years. The coke cans had expired (as picturedand the quality of food was bad. I had ordered the falafel plate and the vegetables were stale. My friends ordered the Chicken Kebob and they were served lamb instead of chicken. The portion sizes were also disappointing for the price and the restaurant never owned up to their mistake, apologized or issued a refund.

Based on the reviews, we were looking forward to eating at Mamoun’s but the place didn’t meet our expectations. The receptionist was not friendly and directed us to a computer screen to place our take-away order. The portions were disappointingly small for a ME restaurant with smaller pita loaves and small to tiny meat and falafel inside with mostly lettuce as a filling. One of our kids refused to eat their wrap because they ordered chicken but the meat looked like lamb. When we asked we were told it was chicken but we sure couldn’t tell. The humus was a little too liquid. We are more picky than the average patron because we are originally from the ME and know what authentic ME food is like. This however tasted more like food truck food and wasn’t very good.

Great bite at any time of night. Friends recommended Mamoun’s on a late night after a show recently, and it was delicious. Their seasoned fries are crispy and very flavorful. The lamb pita was delicious. It was tender, not greasy. Although the lamb was a bit chewier than I’d prefer

This is a nice little spot to stop in for a quick lunch. I had the lamb steak sandwich which was really good I thought. Next time Im going to try their falafel though. The staff here was very nice and quick. By the way I was a little bit messy eating my lamb steak sandwich and I wish I would have had more napkins. So make sure you grab some extra napkins after you order your food ;-)

Yo,Yo, Yo!!! MAMOUNS is my new favorite place!!!The ambiance...the vibe, the location, the hospitality ,the reputation, and the food were all as good or better than advertised!!! Im a huge souvlaki - chicken pita type of guy & Ill tell you what, the chicken pita at this place is NEXT LEVEL IN THE GAME!!! I want to eat it every single day!!! The falafel is amazin , the baklava is blazin & the hot sauce is Wild n Crazee🤯!!! Turkish coffee, mango juice, and mango tea are just a few of the deelicious beverages. 3 distinct areas to eat : out front, inside or out back, Hookah on deck- upon request! Very hip place, Even better food.A Straight up gem in the New Haven community.

Ahh Mamouns... This outpost seems to have been losing a step or two when compared to their sister locations. Still a very good middle eastern restaurant by any standard in this state. I found myself a lil let down by my order... I am a huge fan of baklava and while this one was very good being from scratch, it didnt wow me like it used to back in the day or does at other locations. The phyllo dough almost tasted stale and the filling didnt have enough punch in flavor, the cardamom and cinnamon didnt linger. Overall it was good but usually they bring it way stronger to the hoop. Idk maybe its just a lot to ask being in two states trying to maintain the level of quality especially when most in the area arent familiar w/what it should resemble. Will hope for a better visit next time. 👍

Went there on a late Friday night to have a falafel plate. I really liked the falafels. They had a good taste and were done well, not under or over fried. And, you have to try their own Hot Sauce! It is screaming hot and has an excellent taste. The restaurant itself has lots of character and some very interesting ancient artefacts. The staff is friendly as well. The only thing I didnt like much was the cleanliness; I feel the place could be cleaner.I will surely be visiting them again and the best part is that they are open late!

The spinach roll was definitely microwaved, totally mushy and rubbery and really difficult to eat. I ordered Turkish coffee and it was the worst tasting Turkish coffee Ive ever had, very little flavor - nowhere near the complex and rich Turkish Coffee Ive had in the past, it tasted like hot water with a little nutmeg, maybe cardamom. The fries were ok. I like their house made hot sauce, its too bad thats the only thing.

Imported spices, authentic feel, this place is just as good at the one in New York and open until late. Love the vibe, super low-key and uncomplicated but be careful with the red sauce because it is very spicy. Certain rice dishes have a lot of different middle-eastern spices and aroma, so recommend that and the falafel.

The falafel at Mamoun’s is amazing - it’s crispy on the outside but not too crunchy. The lamb is also very tasty and not tough like other places. The sandwich prices are very economical and they have very friendly staff. They also have a food cart in front of the Yale med school library.

Best authentic middle eastern food ever at this Syrian joint. The food is delicious, affordable and fast. Warning: it can get insanely busy at night and on weekends but it’s worth the wait! You cant really go wrong with Mamouns Falafel. This New York City staple has also been in New Haven for decades and offers incredibly priced fresh falafel and other middle eastern dishes. For less than four dollars, you get a fresh and delicious falafel sandwich covered in tahini and filled with salad. They also have an extensive menu of meat options, plates, salads, soups, savoury pastries like spinach pie, and desserts. The hot sauce is famous for its flavour and spice level. The people who work here are courteous and attentive. Mamouns is the place to go for a quick meal or a late night snack.
