Some of the best Italian I have had!!! 100% a new favorite

Came to this restaurant to expect to have Italian pizza. Ending up having a lower quality pizza than domino with much higher price. The worst crust base ever, with poor quality ingredients. Even with a lot of salt and pepper, still taste like plastic, worse part was cheese. We couldn’t even finish half of what we ordered, and of course no thanks to take the rest home. Very disappointed.

Was looking forward to some good food but was not even given the opportunity to order…all we got was a menu. Walked out after sitting in the restaurant for 15min without even being offered water. It is a small restaurant with a basic menu, why should we consider this restaurant again? The food might be good but if the service is bad or non existent, it leaves a bad taste or in this case no taste in my mouth.

Customer service was very underwhelming and lacking in personality, it’s as if they couldn’t be bothered. We had an accidental spillage and was offered some tissues to clean it up with no offering of help. The menu has not been changed for ever and the food was very average with a lack of fresh ingredients. We ordered the angel hair pasta with seafood which was very garlicky with red stringy fibres which was supposed to be chilli I had to ask what it was as I was unsure. Some fresh herbs would have made a big difference. My mum had an Irish coffee which came in a really small glass and it was not enjoyable as the ratios of coffee to alcohol did no seem appropriate. I will not return to Mama Mia’s.

At far the best Italian food around Tauranga, Ravioli and Gnocchi are from another world! Also a really good atmosphere of the restaurant. Perfect for family dinner or going out as couple.

This is a very good Italian restaurant with great food and great service.

I’ve lived in the Mount for 2 years and have never been here. I had the surf and turf steak and it was sooooo good. Definitely will be coming back to try other items on the menu.

The girls are super friendly and recommend amazing wine and food! Love the decor and vibe is very chill. Service was excellent! Thank you for being amazing hosts you guys!

I think every dish is good!My favorites are cheese gnocchi and angel food pasta. My friend also loves this vegetarian dish, I tried it and it was amazing. The staff are also very friendly.

My partner and I enjoyed an exceptional dinner here a couple of weeks ago whilst we were on holiday. The staff were super attentive and accommodating and the food was to die for. Highly recommend if you are in the area and looking for something that will leave you daydreaming about the food days after you have enjoyed it! Thanks for having us!

For the price I expected to have a proper homemade Italian base this one really felt like supermarket base, it wasn’t cooked enough either, some bits were cold. Just kind of disappointed

I am sorry but never ever again go to Mamma Mia.we wait so long for everything , drink cocktail disgusting like dish washer missing mint food burned...I dont advise go there need good advise be good business...

They had 3 waitresses, but only one look like was taking orders. We waited ages for someone to take our order(I keep asking waitress to take our order and they said coming soon-no they didn’tplus after we ordered we waited 1h for the food. People what came after us was getting food before us. We had booking 6:15pm(came a bit earlier, restaurant was pretty much empty)….trying to get someone to take our entrees order - mission…. got our entrees and want order mains - super mission. We finally ordered mains 7pm and we got food after 8pm. Some people was leaving with takeaway food bags because food was taking forever to order and then to come. We never go there again, for much we paid service was poor and food very average(some burned). 👎

Yumm! I love eating here. I have been 2 times this week and will be testing it out a 3rd time at the end of the week. Service is great and perfectly timed between entree and main. The team is observant and super friendly. A big 5 stars from me 🤑

My partner and I went for an early Valentines dinner. We both ordered the same pasta dish (Angel hair pastawhich was absolutely delicious and would of been worth every single dollar if we hadnt gotten sick. I contacted the restaurant the following day to let them know but have not received a response. If there had been a response I would not be writing this review as I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The portio sizes seem decreased. Asking if you want still or sparkling water without explaining that its another 6$ is an easy way to pad the bill but is underhanded. To summarize food ok business practices not good.

Overall experience at this restaurant is great, and the food is absolutely delicious. The portions are also generous. All of our group of five would recommend everyone to come to this restaurant, and we will be coming back soon.

We took our 1 year old to the beach today, had a dip in the hot pools and decided to treat ourselves to a good pizza.Looking at which restaurant was open around the corner we headed to mamma Mia restaurant.We ordered two pizzas and 1 kids cheesy pizza. There was just another couple at the time sitting and already eating.The waitress was very friendly and efficient, she made our drinks promptly and well.The pizzas arrived, undercooked, soggy and tasteless, an insult to Italian food culture really. Nothing was homemade, neither the sauce or the dough, just a load of bad quality frozen products.Our son, who genuinely loves pizza, hardly ate anything and somewhat nearly chocked on the solid mozzarella that had cooled down.We have had a busy day and ate anyways knowing we wouldn’t have time to wait for anything else.I did mention to the waitress that the pizzas were rather not good at all. That we were hungry and ate but that it was by far the worst we ever have had.We did not take dessert as we needed to head back home to get our son to bed. The waitress said she would tell the chef, not sure if that happened but all we heard from the kitchen after she dropped our plates was laughter.Anyways, we pay the bill ( 110 dollarswhich made it even worst on our disappointment.We try to eat local, but at this stage, Pizza Hut does better pizzas and cheaper.We obviously do not recommend this restaurant , the treat is now ruined and at the same time emptied our pockets quite bit.Would recommend to the chef to stop cutting cost on products, maybe make the dough? I mean for 28 dollars a pizza you might want to try to make better not worst!Service was lovely though!

Fantastic authentic Italian restaurant, great food and wine options. Generous portions, the best and largest eye fillet I have ever eaten. If you are looking for a true Italian restaurant with all the options then you need to try Mamma Mia.

It a great little Italian Restaurant in the Mount. Have going to it for years and on Saturday it was the best ever. Four of us enjoyed a birthday celebration with excellent service and food. We had the eye fillet delicious, a crispy Hawaii pizza and the pasta spaghetti dish. I also enjoyed the excellent fresh salad. The wines from Italy are worth trying too. An excellent night out and well priced.

I went there with my friends and had the worst dine in experience in terms of food, waited around 1 hour and 15 minutes, and disappointed with the food, not good portion size and taste was like very bland, the only one star for the Brazilian Wait staff who atleast tried her best so we didnt left. They spoiled our night

Best pizza I ever had! I would 100% recommend the vegetarian pizza, the quality of the ingredients are on point. My partner is trying all the pizzas on the menu and has never been disappointed.5 stars for the service as well. The smiley Diane is extremely lovely.We love going to Mamma Mia for a romantic diner. I ordered gnocchi and even though it was really good, the plate was really really small, and my friends felt the same way. The service wasn’t that good either, we waited more than 30min for our entrees and have to ask multiple times for our drinks since they kept forgetting about it. I don’t think I’ll go back.

The local clerk recommended this restaurant to us and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is great, the food is great and not too expensive. We will definitely go back there next time we visit Mount Maunganui.

We were here for a birthday celebration and took up most tables. They did very well to get the food for each table out close together. The food was delicious and service was good and friendly. Recommend.

I came with a group of friends and have dined/ordered take-aways multiple times. The food is always fresh and flavorful with generous portions.The Fiorentina steak is a showstopper.. around 500g of rib eye steak served on the bone. It gets sold out very often because of how popular it is so I recommend the "book your steak" option when you are making your dinner booking. My partners ultimate favorite is the Gnocchi Mare, a homemade gnocchi with prawns in a red sauce. It is rare to find a restaurant that homemakes their gnocchi, the way they make theirs is particularly expectatular where you can actually taste the potato and it is soft and delicious.The service is always friendly and accommodating, my friend asked for a particular pizza that wasnt in their menu and they were very kind to make it happen for us.it is clear why they are always full, not only the best Italian in town but the only place that does BYO at the Mount. Well done Mammamia!

Im giving Mamma Mia 4 stars 3 stars for service but 5 stars for the food. Out of the roughly 10 times Ive gone there to buy a pizza, 8 times they got the order wrong. I only ever ask for one pizza, a ham and mushroom pizza. This time the server repeated exactly that to me and then went on to tell the Chef exactly that as well(I heard the server tell the Chef). So of course I receive a pizza with only mushrooms on it. When I asked, is this the ham and mushroom pizza, the server looked at it and said, no you asked for only mushroom.I think what Im getting at here is that the pizzas are great but Id rather not be told I am wrong about how I order a pizza. Really, working in the restaurant business for over 20 years I can only put it down to a lack of training. This business already has great food, all that is needed is better staff. Ill be back nevertheless, fingers crossed Ill get my pizza the simple way I want it...ham and mushroom.

This used to be our favourite restaurant for years, we’d go multiple times a year every birthday and anniversary, but hadn’t been in a while until tonight. We decided to go out for dinner to celebrate New Year’s Eve and we’re so disappointed by the entire experience. We made a reservation in advance for 7.30pm and turned up to be told the people currently at our table were running late, but we were given a table outside to wait at and ordered some drinks - after 20 minutes of waiting our table still wasn’t ready so we were seated at a spare table for 4 at 7.50pm. Our orders were taken quickly and our entree didn’t take long to come out at all, but it was bland and unseasoned. I had to ask for water for our table as it must’ve been forgotten in the rush to seat us.. when our mains arrived the disappointment continued as they were both very under seasoned and bland and for the first time ever neither of us finished meals. No one checked on us to see how our meals were going, they used to serve your pasta and ask if you wanted cracked pepper, but we were just left with no follow up. We loved this place and I feel sad writing a negative review, but it’s just not the same anymore. The food used to be amazing, but it was flavourless and needed additional seasoning we didn’t get the opportunity to ask for it as it’s like no one was taking care of our table.

An absolutely awesome place. Food was fantastic, service great.BUT - - - so loud you couldnt have a non interrupted conversation with the other two at our table. Seating was very very close!!The staff did come over and suggest we order early so we didnt get behind a "large group". That was excellent and truly appreciated. As I said, food fantastic. True Italian and superbly presented. It was a special evening for us, and the two of my family who invited us.When a place like this is so popular, it always has the potential for things to be looked at for improvement.All I will say is this:-Great place; food "Excellent"; service great and considerate; sure will revisit.After all; it was a Friday night; and to be expected.An honest review.Thanks Team. Wow!!! We had the best gluten free, dairy free, egg free pizza and pasta here!!!! The pizza base was light, yet crispy (not at all like cardboardand the vegan cheese was the best Ive ever had!! The GF pasta tasted like normal pasta and had such perfect texture. The service was amazing (such a friendly, helpful and patient waitress.They were packed but we were able to use the outside front table and they turned the heater on for us. Such an awesome place.

This was my favorite place for years. Went last night. Very disappointing. Menu has shrunk. Fondant was under cooked. Usually the place is full of diners. Probably only 10 people including us all night. Sunday night as well. Sad folks.

Went to the restaurant for my birthday dinner. Had already eaten 2 hours before we went. Food is really high quality and flavour-some so cant complain on that... But the the portions are honestly smaller than you would expect based on the prices they charge. Me and my boyfriend were already eyeing up stopping at Mc Donalds on the way home and we had garlic bread, ravioli and chocolate mud cake for desert. I would say eat prior to going to feel satisfied. Also the food to a while to come out of the kitchen... this is why I rate 3 stars.Also staff are very friendly! but do not check up on you to see how you are going. Really awkward waiting for a waitress to wave down to say that I didnt have a fork. Otherwise... Great experience, great food- just wish they had bigger portions.

Food was good, got the blue cheese gnocchi with honey walnuts, tasted pretty good. Good location, close to shops and the beach. Nice waiters and ambiance. Slightly annoying that they missed our booking and assumed we booked at their other restaurant, and got one of our orders wrong.

Had dinner here. They were very busy and a bit distracted although very polite and pleasant. Took quite a while for our order to be taken and after a bit of a wait they unfortunately forgot our starter completely and served the main. However our chosen main course pizzas were very nice and well done. They were snowed under, but I cant give more than three stars, although I feel mean as the food we had was good and they did apologise for missing the starters.

This is a favorite restaurant we often visit when we are at "The Mount". A visit last week was up to the usual standard. This time accompanied by a glass of Chianti we shared a delicious bruschetta, and both had pasta ragu, and shared a salad. We may have had a dessert 😊 and finished with an espresso. Excellent polite service, excellent simple but well prepared and presented food are the norm. Unless it is the off season it is wise to book.

Well what an experience!Got taken out by my Wife for a late Birthday dinner, I was keen for one of the usual Restaurants we visit but she had a desire for Pasta an Pizza.Looking in the door they had good numbers an the vibe felt really good - this is key to a good outing for us.There was a few free tables an we were seated straight away with a very warm welcome!15/10 for the table service, we were well looked after an nothing felt rushed or pushed on us which is really nice!Nice Cold water to the table, an an excellent Pinot an cold Tap beer Estrella to the table while we browsed the great looking menu.There was nothing on the menu that was not available a first for me in a while down the mount.I had the Bocconcini Al Marsala which was full of flavour an a good helping with perfectly cooked Veges!My wife had the Prawn & Scallop Pasta Which I was lucky enough to try, this was very tasty with great sized prawns an scallops again all very fresh looking, smelling an tasting.Our desserts were also great an finished the night off perfectly.Cute, cozy, delicious! 10/10 we are coming again - Highly recommend !!!Also I saw as I was paying the bill “Pizza an beer for $20 4-6pm”
