Though it is main route connecting varanasi to chandauli and padav but on the bridge most often accidents occur, there are no cctv cameras on rhe bridge and in night time there are snatchers active for snatching chains, jewelleries, mobile etc...My 16 yr old one of the cousin got beaten there by group of three strangers during daytime about 10.30 am and no one helped... people often get involve in fight so be alert when passing through this route.
Malviya bridge, also known as Dufferin bridge is a double decker bridge. It connects the two main stations of Varanasi and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar through railway. And also as link between the two sides of Ganges through road, though heavy vehicles are not allowed on this bridge. The beauty of the city of Varanasi can be seen through this bridge. The railway line is at the lower part while the road is on the top.

Bridge was awesome and mind blowing because bridge was many years old but no anyone can say . Bridge manufacturing and creativeness is very honestly design by engineer . Bridge also clear by dust but sometimes traffic are currently very disturbed . More than 1M car or bike others passing on the bridge . We can see ganga river on the bridge . But at the night time bridge lightings looking very attractive and amazing . I am also visit there . Bridge very strength full . In this bridge have two types of load because in this bridge two types of road one for cars or bike or truck etc but one for railway bridge was under the road .
Nice place to chill its the shortcut for mgs to vns and it is made in british government

Malviya Bridge, inaugurated in 1887 (originally called The Dufferin Bridge), is a double decker bridge over the Ganges at Varanasi. It carries rail track on lower deck and road on the upper deck. It is one of the major bridges on the Ganges and carries the Grand Trunk Road across the river. It has 7 spans of 350 ft and 9 spans of 110 ft and it was the first bridge of its type constructed in the Indian sub-continent by the engineers of Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway (O&R Railway).[2] The engineer in charge of construction of the Dufferin Bridge was Frederick Thomas Granville Walton, who went on to become the Engineer in Chief of the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway company.[3] The bridge was renamed as the Malviya Bridge in 1948 after Madan Mohan Malaviya. As the bridge is near Rajghat, it is also locally known as Rajghat bridge. Malviya Bridge is between Kashi, Varanasi Junction and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (Mughalsarai Junctionstations. In Rudyard Kiplings story The Bridge Builders, the bridge is given the name Kashi Bridge, after the nearby city also known as Varanasi. Dufferin Bridges opening ceremony was delayed because of floods; the Kashi bridge in the story also faces similar problems due to flooding just before it was opened to public.
An engineering marvel and one of a kind iconic bridge that has been a symbol of varanasi since generations. Govt. needs to preserve this heritage and ensure its maintenance.
Malviya Bridge, originally called the Dufferin Bridge is a double decker bridge built over the river Ganges at Varanasi. With two rail tracks on its lower tier & the Grand Trunk Road on the upper level, it is one of the finest landmarks of the city.Built in 1887, it was named after Lord Dufferin, the Viceroy of India. In 1948, it was renamed as Malviya Bridge after Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of Banaras Hindu University. As this is near Raj Ghat, it is also known as Rajghat Bridge. This 130 year old bridge is between Kashi, Varanasi & Mughal Sarai stations.

Very beautiful scenery can be pictured in mind from this bridge. The bridge is very old. When train is passed under the road bridge, any one can feel the vibrations and oscillations produced by the bridge. The pedestarian trip is very awsome.
