40 South St, Baltimore, MD 21202, USA, Baltimore
Low-key, counter-serve Afghani eatery specializing in kebabs & other Middle Eastern delicacies.
September 20th 5:15 pmClosed and looks like closed or out of business !!
Its a hidden gym right off the harbor. Nice service and even better food
Very tasty food ..you enjoy every bit of it
We visited during last hour for dinner, the food was not as advertised and less in qty, but the taste didnt disappoint.
Advertise pizza and burgers but cant point to a menu with those listed on them.
Prior 5-star.This place has fallen into the annoying new trend of giving 100% priority to people who order with apps or order ahead by phone. You simply wont get served if you have the audacity place an order in-person.
The nefariousness of this establishment and theirCustomer servce experence . The cashier did not even greet us and could not manage their busy environment. The lack of focus to the customer as well as the amount of funds we have presently spent is abhorrent. Please refocus on the customer and I dont want an appetizer I want you to appease the customer at hand.
Some of the best food Ive ever had period. The hummus is simply the best! Great people, authentic food, I would travel back just for this place!
The place is really small to dine in but take out should’ve been ok- except when you go through Doordash. I ordered 2 plates of aushak and a few other items and after having confirmed my order and telling me it was ready for pickup (I called 20 minutes before getting thereI was told that I was given only 1 plate of aushak and that doordash would refund me, either that day or latest by the next day. The man also said I could call him if doordash is unable to resolve the issue. On Saturday night when I still got nothing from doordash and was either put on hold or told repeatedly to contact the merchant, I called the restaurant and this time a very arrogant sounding man told me I should tell doordash that the restaurant doesn’t have my money or credit card information and that doordash should sort this. The worst possible service especially for a first (and lasttime customer. I could’ve looked for better food in the hours I wasted in vain for a refund. The quality of food is barely edible- extra oil, lacks in flavors.
These people saved my day! Away from their yummy food, they really saved my day by their fast act and professionalism. I made a catering order and it come on time, but my crazy dog damaged the order, the restaurant quickly managed to get me a replacement for the order in just minutes! These people are amazing and will definitely consider ordering from them again and again! Thanks to everyone working in that restaurant!
Small place, but good food. The chicken wrap was warm and tasty.
Excellent food. Went to a few top-end restaurants on this visit to Baltimore and my chicken kebab was the best food I ate all week.
What an experience. If you like middle eastern food, please try this restaurant. All meats come with delicious sides of rice, flatbread and salads that will fill you up. The lamb kabob was delicious and juicy, I also loved the kofta kabob.Paid $31 for 2 full meals. The owner and staff were really pleasant as well. In summary, a great place for great food in Baltimore
Great food, he said the food would take 15 minutes but it came out in 5-10 minutes.
Just got some dinner and food was amazing! Fresh and super tasty! The guy (cashieralso is very very nice!
Maiwand kabob is another restaurant that serves tastles food. We spent $70.00 to buy lamb kabob and rice. The food was cold and the owner was rude and disrespectful. When I got home, they were missing sauce, and salad.
This place is a hidden gem. Service was lackluster and that’s the reason for the 4 stars, but the food was worth it. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing
Just started working near this spot. Saw the reviews and had to try. Absolutely delicious!! Everything was so fresh and the staff was so nice. I will be back!!!
We were from out of town and got lost trying to find this restaurant. We showed up a few minutes before closing time and they could not have been more hospitable. The food was incredible and the proprietor and his son could not have been more gracious. The portions were good sized, so I got lunch for the next day too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. If you want to explore different food cultures, this place is a must!
Great little halal food spot across from the harbor. Food was hot, fresh, and flavorful. Very friendly and straightforward customer service
I called really close to closing to place an order and they were kind enough to still serve me. This is my first time trying the food at Maiwand Kabob. I ordered the samosas, chicken kabob, and mango smoothie. The chicken was tender and the rice is really good. The samosas were delicious and crispy. I will definitely be returning!
I could tell this place was gonna be a winner from a block away. This is a restaurant thats never once had to resort to changing its look to attract customers. The rice is cinnamony and incredible, the meats are juicy, and the samosas and bread are still crisp and after a forty minute walk on a humid day.I can see why its been in business for 22 years. Thats like a thousand in restaurant years, and its got the taste to last a thousand more.Do yourself a favor and get some hummus. This is a long walk from my house, but ill be back.
Amazing food and so we’ll priced versus the tourist trap restaurants in the harbor. Don’t be fooled by the humble decor, it’s really, really good!!!
Unprofessional practices . I ordered through grub hub . They were very late and were not answering restaurant’s phone . I called grub hub for an update and grub hub canceled the order and told us to place an order from another place . We adhered because I am 8 months pregnant and need to eat . They dropped off food about 1.5 hours late . We elected contactless , so I called grub hub and let them know . They said nothing they could do at that point and the restaurant would get paid anyway and to keep the food . That evening at 9:30 pm we got a call from a very angry employee yelling at us ! Saying why did we cancel the order and saying “you people just wanted free food !” You live far away - 3 miles which I commute everyday lol. I was appalled . I would never treat any customer that way not the less call a private residence after nine pm . My review also disappeared from this site so reposting. There are free webinars on custom service and maybe they should have called grub hub first before directly contacting customer so late in the night . Food was donated to neighbors and they enjoyed it , but I have been there before and it is good food . Unfortunately professionalism is lacking . During this pandemic when everyone is stressed it was just unnecessary to call and be so rude . Especially since we called grub hub to make sure you would be okay lol . That’s the crazy part. We support local business , plus we let grub hub know of the behavior . It was the weirdest delivery I have ever had .
At first I was not expecting the food will be good man to. Be honest with you. I love the food delicious kabobs fresh salad love to smell the rice every thing is fresh I recommend this place to everyone
So I would totally have shared a pic if I hadn’t crushed my meal. I got the chicken tikka and the veggie platter. When I say the chicken was sooooo tender and well seasoned I’m not exaggerating. The pumpkin n eggplant were so ahmazing it made me forget about the rest of the veggies on the platter. Will def be returning and naming this as my one and only kabob joint.
Great kabab shop. Friendly staff, enjoyed the falafel platter, and the naan is probably the best Ive had (very fresh, soft inside, crispy edges, perfect). Large portions. Great value for money here.
We found this place on google and it’s Halal. They have a halal sign. This place delicious that we went there two days in a row while visiting from Minnesota. I will definitely go there again when I visit Maryland. The staff were so friendly and were observing proper face covering during pandemic.
The food is DELICIOUS. I ordered the chicken Karahi with a mango milkshakeand it was tasty.
Finding good quality halal food in the USA is hard, apart from the endless food carts offering the ubiquitous chicken over rice and rock hard falafels, a decent eat in diner is most welcome. This is the second time Ive been here and whilst the food can take a while to arrive, it means that it has been freshly cooked for you, and in this fast food culture, a welcome chance to sit and read whilst you wait. Being Afghani, the food may seem a little bland from a spice point of view, and being of Pakistani extraction, it is less spicy than I would like, but spices are available to pep up the meal should you wish.
A small outlet good for Afghan food at Harbor Front in Baltimore downtown. Eat in portions are much smaller than take away. I was amazed how much more I got in the take away box than what I had at the restaurant a few days earlier. Food is freshly made to your order. Taste amazing. The location could do with a little more cleanliness. Staff is nice and helpful.
All I can say is wow. Served on a plastic plate, the best kebab Ive ever had. Everything was bursting with flavor. Ordered the chicken and beef platter for $15. Huge portion, almost enough for two. Definitely making this a spot when Im in Baltimore!
Beautiful plating and great smells. The rice is fused with cardamom and has the perfect consistency. I ordered the lamb kabob. The salad was quiet standard. The lamb was flavorful. Lightly spicy and a good kick of lamb flavor. It isnt washed over by seasonings. Quite good. The mint sauce that served alongside is a great addition to meat. It just adds complexity to the meat. Well worth it. Lastly, the naan is what someone would expect. Overall, I would highly recommend the "Lamb Kabob". You wont be disappointed.
I ordered beef kabob, it is really awesome and the waiter is a nice guy with kindness this is a must try restaurant.
Excellent preparation of food. I have enjoyed their food for last four weeks and every week I eat their I am reminded of home ( I grew up in north India). The lamb curry( lamb is very tenderand Chicken curry is very flavorful. I even tried their vegetable platter and every item was delicious and ofcourse the bread is freshly baked in the oven.
The food and service were exceptional. It is little on the more expensive side for what it is but I was very pleased with the quality and attention to detail. I had a daily special and my wife had kabobs - we also had smoothies, all taken to go. The food was fresh, well seasoned, and carefully packaged for us to take back to our hotel and it was all ready right on time.
Great curry! The lamb curry was on special so I tried that and it was very tasty. The sauce was flavorful, and the meat was cooked perfectly. However, I have to also mention the rice and bread. Normally these serve as adequate fillers, but in this case they were both exceptional on their own, and as a compliment to the curry. The bread was soft, and soaked up the curry so well, and the rice was seasoned and I could have eaten a plate of it on its own. Id definitely go back to try more menu items!
Flavorful! I order lamb and beef kabob, it was delicious. Naan tasted fresh. Very clean restaurant and great location. Prices are fair, take note of daily specials. Service was friendly. Not large seating area if with large group. Im a happy tourist!
Awesome place. I was going to the Chinese place next door. Went in waited 20 min to not even be welcomed. My family and I went next door to Maiwand Kabob and they welcomed us right away.We ordered 5 or so meals and took about 20-25 min to make fresh. Food was worth the wait. I come to the inner harbor every year for a convention. I will come back here. It is amazing.
Our driver bringing us in from the airport recommended Maiwand Kabob to us. We ended up eating there three times in two days - its just that good. The hummus and pita bread were delicious, and the kabobs (chicken, beef, lambwere tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Serving sizes are generous! We also appreciated the kind and welcoming staff. Thanks for a great experience!
When we asked after 30 minute if our lunch is getting ready, the working lady showed a bad mode by shouting that she and her friend are the only people working for all the guests in the shop. My friends food came after 35 minute but it took them another 15 minute to being my food. By that time my friend had finished his food. The seating area is small compared to the window.I gave only two stars for the owner that I dont know but has started an Afghan restaurant. They can do much better.
I got the chicken kabob. The food was cooked perfectly. I have never eaten such good chicken. My friend got the lamb kabob and it too was cooked perfectly. Normally, at other restaurants the lamb is dry, but here it was perfect and juicy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and these dishes to anyone who is looking for an excellent meal.

Greatttttt halal food!! Highly recommend. Worth the price for the portions! Staff is extremely friendly.
This place is the best! The food is delicious, authentic, and affordable. I enjoy eating here and recommend!
Food is awesome. Service is not bad.
This restaurant is relatively small, and food is made to order, so typically theres a bit of a wait involved. But, totally worth it! The kebabs here are amazing. Great fare for lunch, conveniently located for office workers in the area or tourists in the Inner Harbor area. Give it a try!
I ordered a large take-out order and they had the food ready in about 25 minutes. When I arrived to pick it up, I had to get the attention of the people behind the counter, but once I did they were very friendly. The restaurant looked very clean and the food was super delicious! I did have to use near-by parking garages which charge a fee but the walk only took a few minutes. I will continue to order from Maiwand Kabob!
Wonderful Middle eastern flavors at a great price. We walked from our hotel, but they would have delivered. SO much better than fast food or fried plates. Perfectly seasoned. And some of the best Naan bread ever. Highly recommended!
Awesome food and great prices. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. The food was hot and fresh. Served by a great staff. I had the lamb kabob and my wife had the chicken kabob. Plenty of food, served with rice and a small salad, the bread that they serve with the entree is also very good.
