Maita Cocina Nikkei - Restaurant in Haarlem, Netherlands
The crispy rice spicy tuna is one of my favorites!
If you want to go to this restaurant you have two options. Either you eat before you go and then have the food samples they sell there or be prepared to spend a few hundred euros to satisfy your appetite. The place is fine, but the service bad (there were only two waiters to serve a restaurant full of people). The taste of the food was good but they decide it to miniaturize it.The "lomo saltado", the iconic dish of Peruvian cuisine, was reduced to five slices of meat, no rice, and six small fried potatoes. Even worse, the "tiradito", is a micro dish of four slivers of fish no bigger than 4 mm. of width each, and so on. Youve got the idea.Notwithstanding, the prices have not been miniaturized. On the contrary, they are getting big.
The manager looked to me unfriendly, he even kicked out a couple with a baby, quite unfit for a client facing role. They should find a peruvian or a japanese manager to be a bit more authentic and credible. Food not expensive but nothing special, they should add significantly more value in comparison to an Imbiss.
Nice food, but extremely slow service. We was waiting more then one hour and the restaurant was half empty.
Here is the most excellent restaurant was in the nice City of Haarlem!! The top location that surround by different restaurant in central. The best restaurants in Noord Holland*****
One of the best sushi in the area. The ceviche was good but the portion was very small for the price.
The staff here were so friendly & great! Recommend for the staff alone! But the food and drinks were also great, get the crispy rice 🤤🤤🤤
Totally incompetent team. Long waiting for service and food.
In the end half of us had to eat in the snackbar across it after paying 70€ per person. More details here: reservation for 10 on the phone, good. Arriving to the restaurant to see were divided in two tables, not ok but ok we go with the flow. Meal quantitiy, very poor. Food quality, average. Food innovation, good. Waitresses, uncomfortable service (it just made us uncomfortable to keep asking to be spoken in english so we ended up letting them speak without understanding a word). Price/quality, highly expensive.
Amazing place! Really nice food, wine and cocktails. Great ambiance
The food is amazingly good. But, honestly I am quite offended by the service. I feel that I am being treated differently, my fiancé (who is Dutchgot a little wine tasting before we got our wine, but I didnt get the same treatment. They didnt explain to me the food in English, rather they ignored me and only speaking Dutch to my fiancé. Just to be clear that she already explained that I dont speak Dutch. On top of that they didnt even talk to me or ask me at all. I feel not being appreciated, ignored and uncomfortable. Racism might come across sensitive in this review, but maybe you can explain to me what happened in that particular moment?
Is a bit expensive, not the casual place I would go regularly, but the food is really good. Dishes are curated and the service is friendly.
Food was great, sushi and the Miso fish were incredible. Little pricey but worth the experience.
Excellent food as usual . Unfortunately let down by amateurish and careless serviceI have been a fairly regular ( save lockdowncustomer and highly rate the food . Sadly service is far from up to par . Pity. .
Very nice ambiance, very good service and excellent food! We will go again!
As a group of 6 we were looking fwd to dine at Maita but their online system only allows for a reservation of 5 max. We emailed and called during the week without any response. Finally we connected the day before only to have full our reservation cancelled on the spot because we were with 6. The argument was: the tables are small and the difference between 5-6 cannot be accommodated. What restaurant is so rude and unaccommodated to do that just a day before? Who lets such a group go. Needless to say we will not be dining there ever!
This is one of the best restaurants in Haarlem. Service was high standard. Its something to experience yourself. You will not be disappointe.
Hmmm, very interesting dishes, ceviches were lovely, balanced and singed the palate. Sushi was fresh and very well made. Grilled aubergine best Ive had and with a style I did not yet know. Ill come back for the other dishes we simply did not have room for. Service was attentive, not pushy and friendly. Setting was great. Other reviews mention it too, it is on the expensive side but you will eat something you will not get anywhere else in Haarlem or vicinity so.... go
Great for small bites. Good tempranillo, lovely atmosphere
Delicious. Best Peruvian food in the Netherlands.
Incredible cuisine. Would have been 5 star if better service.
Nice ambience. The chefs at this place are technically masterful and clearly have a passion for the craft. Food is pretty darn good, though a little on the expensive side even relative to other already expensive restaurants in this corner of Haarlem.I think this place suffers from trying a little too hard. Several dishes simply had too many ingredients to the point that their complexity produced more confusion than deliciousness. Case-in-point would be their edamame which had something like 5-6 different spices and sauces. Edamame is meant to be soy beans and salt (period). Piling on all the different add-ons just means peoples fingers get dirty and you miss the simple aspects of making delicious edamame (i.e. making sure theyre boiled for the correct amount of time).Their menu is also a bit weird and challenging to interpret in places. It seems to be a confused mix of tapas style dining combined w/ a traditional Appetizer-Main-Dessert format menu. I can sorta see what they were going for, and its a neat idea, but if patrons cant understand it, its just not going to work.Service was a bit slow, which Ive got to imagine is linked to the unusual complexity of the menu and dishes they produce. These guys could be next level if they simplified things a little and focused on basics.
A trendy Peruvian Japanese fusion restaurant with some interesting dishes and sushi. Good cocktails. Id give it 4 stars if the service was better. In fact, I almost considered giving it 2 stars.... . We had reservations on Friday evening and were told, when we made them, there was a 2 hour limit, so we could have the table from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. At 7:50pm we were asked to move outside from our indoor table(!). Then, when it was time to pay, the service was also subpar, even though, despite the less than friendly treatment, we left a tip. Wont be going there again for dinner.
Wonderful food, passionate people! The level of creativity and craftsmanship on display was very impressive. 😊👌
Very nice restaurant with good food! We really liked it. The service was a bit slow….
Really good Peruvian-Japanese fusion! I am from Peru and loved it! 🇵🇪😋 and service was great although restaurant was busy
Order quite frequently and the sushi is always top notch
Food was amazing. The gourmet Tacos are insane. Very expensive though.
Quite unique place sitting in the heart of Harlem, the food is exquisite! Had probably the best ceviche of my life here! The staff is super friendly, definitely worth checking out.
Although not cheap by any means, it is clear that Maita has a true passion for great cuisine, balanced flavours and highly appealing Nikkei choices.Started with a not-very-Nikkei padrón peppers that were nonetheless grilled to perfection with some topped up katsuobushi.Added some wonderful spicy gyozas a causa de pulpo and an excellently made truffle ceviche with enough of the black stuff not to overpower the flavour of the fish.Followed with abundant, really well made torched salmon and foie-gras unagi uramakis, and finished with a heavenly yellow pepper risotto and a juicy sukade steak done with what seemed grilled chicory and pesto. Cooked absolutely on point for my taste. All of this accompanied by a skilled pisco sour and a blasphemic glass of Nero dAvola which was my own well taken choice.Lovely service and perfect location.Highly recommended.
Excelent food and amaizing service, for sure I will return. It deserves more publicity.
Excellent Peruvian Nikkei fusion food in Haarlem, comparable in taste and quality to Coya. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable, the ceviches wonderfully fresh and bursting with flavour and the sushi creative. The salmon tacos with apple and smoked yogurt were also very inventive, striking a surprising balance of flavours and textures. It would be wonderful to see some variations of the pisco sour on the menu as well (such as pisco infusions).
Fantastic tastes, cozy interior, friendly staff but left hungry. Portion size and prize are out of sync
Food is amazing, although many items on the menu were sold out on a Sunday at 19:00.. also the service was bad, took forever to order food or drinks and we were shocked by the price, as in too expensive! The 3 stars is just because the food is so good
Not cheap but well worth the money - everything I tried is delicious and I have been many times, so by now I tried most things on the menu.
Fantastic food! Simply amazing!Awesome variety of tasty dishes, especially seafood!
Nice cozy ambiance inside. Prices are higher than standard Dutch restos but this is somehow justified by the good service and clearly high-quality food. Pisco sour was delicious (one small portion is not enough!). My half-Guatemalan friend was impressed with the menu and found most of the foods great. Personally i feel like in general, the sushi’s are leaning on the sour side, maybe this is just how Peruvian cuisine is and that Nikkei is just not so much my thing? Although i looovveee Pachamama (rolling store during food festivals who serve Nikkei sushi’s tooso i’m not sure. Anyway i don’t think i’ll come back just because it’s not my preferred taste.
Very good restaurant, the mix between food from Peru and Japan is very tasteful. Good staff that advise what to eat.
Amazing experience, the stuff was super helpful and friendly, the food was non trivial and delicious, the restroom was clean and tidy. This was really not just a food but a real journey. I cannot skip the part that the check is about 65 Euros per person if you will get everything that is recommended and couple of beers.
Conclusion: wonderful fusion flavours blending Peruvian and Japanese. Really a culinary pleasure.Advisory Warning: The menu was a challenge. It was difficult to comprehend, and almost random when trying to translate it into an actual food order, given a lack of familiarity with this area of cuisine. Felt like ordering in an unknown language which has a totally different alphabet or character set!The staff tried to help, but it would need more than a reasonable time to forecast what might be a good order. So we just ordered what was likely to be a starter size and a main size per person, and we found this enough for us. During all this time, the chef was working next to us in the open kitchen, which began to give us a sense of it all. The kitchen, by the way, was an oasis of calm, and dedication, efficiency, proficiency, and work. (Somewhat an improvement on many kitchens.)Portions are beautifully presented and perfectly functional (i.e. a visual delight made of that which you are going to eat, and not some visually bland food camouflaged by a bouquet of inedible decoration). The food is a fantastic potpourri of taste. Really wonderful.
The food was really good and well done but unfortunately the service and hospitality was really bad. The waiters didn’t explain the menu or pay attention to make the order. We had a incident with the food and the waiters ignored us instead of giving us a solution
Funky and fashionable with pretty good food. A bit style over substance and a bill that fits the target audience but definitely worth a visit
A very interesting culinary fusion experience Peruvian Sushi.Very good food and really one of the best services and atmosphere in the Netherlands.Zoe and her husband the chef are a ray of light with all the staff are great, friendly, smiling and warm every minute of the night.Good seating and minimal Culture fused design. We had a wonderful night. One minor note: it is a bit expensive. But the service makes it exceptionally OK
Wow! In one word!!!! The best Nikkei cuisine!!!! Forget everything what youve ever heard about sushi : sushi in Maita is a new level of deliciousness!!! Great cocktails too. Wonderful place. Seriously good! Highly recommended
The food at this place is outstanding and of a very high quality.Never had such a nice meal!I highly recommend going to this place!
Food was absolutly amazing, from preparation to presentation, and the friendliness of the staff is genuine. Definetly we will be back.
The food was nice. Dishes nicely presented, some were over complicated with far to many juxtaposing flavours fighting on the plate. The sushi was great, as was the beef - a strange combination though. The service was nice, but oh so incredibly slow. My friend and I had almost a whole glass of wine before they took our order (we had to flag the waitress down), then wed almost drunk an entire bottled before the next course was served (about 1 1/2 hours after we arrived). Such a pity.
Great ambiance and food! Like the combi of Peruvian and Japanese fusion cuisine! Recommended ;)
Newly opened Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant in Haarlem. Nice interior and ambience.. Service was a bit slow although the restaurant was not even half full. Had to wait for a while to get attention from staff. Food was interesting but not that impressive. Some were good but some were off balanced either too spicy or sauce is not cooperating. Dessert (frozen coconutwas very good.
Just opened place, serving the delicious Peruvian-Japanese fusion called “Nikkei”. Varying courses from typical Ceviche to Peruvian influenced Sushi. Very much recommended.
