Plaza central Lima, Cercado de Lima 15001, Peru, Satipo
Known as the birthplace of Lima, this plaza featuring a fountain is bordered by iconic palaces.
Historical hub, don’t miss Basílica y Convento de San Francisco catacombs that lie underneath! Stroll around the streets and shops
Beautiful buildings, and they give a good sense of the spanish influences in Lima and in South America in general.
Pretty square with beautiful gardens!
Me and my partner really enjoyed our time in Peru, everything was amazing. Nice people, good food and a lot to see. Our time there flew by pretty quick. I would definitely recommend visiting Peru, theres a lot to explore. We spent two weeks in between different cities and every single one of them was amazing, I would definitely go back one day.
Centro historico and Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayorare a mandatory stop for every tourist. Being that said, its a little disappointing. Mainly because of the insecurity you feel. Ive been in other South American historical centers (e.g., Quitoand its different. As you reach the Plaza de Armas youre told to not step one street out of the Plaza or the two main roads. The plaza itself is quite large, with Limas Cathedral on one side and several historical buildings nearby (most of them, being remodeled). Its nice and quite crowded with tourists and people trying to sell you things.
Its a very nice place for tourists to visit! The place is very ancient, especially the buildings are very historical.
The Plaza de Armas or the Main Square of Lima, also called the Plaza Mayor, is the cradle of Lima. This is where Francisco Pizarro founded Lima in 1535, making it the oldest square in the city 🤓
lima main square was absolutely stunning. maybe the most beautiful main square ive ever seen
The Main Square is one of the most important touristic destinations, located in the heart of the Historic Centre of Lima. It is surrounded by the Government Palace, Lima Metropolitan Cathedral, Archbishops Palace of Lima, the Municipal Palace, and the Palacio de la Unión
Wonderful square with presidential Palace and Cathedral. Everything is neat, clean, and full of history.
Loved the square with all the palms, the buildings. Had a very nice talk with touristic officer who explained every building and gave me few tips for visit.
Well, its a beautiful square but I guess in the wrong place. I didnt feel like in Peru at all. I felt like in Spain. Of course, it is part of history but I just disagree with the colonization ideas around the whole world. So the square is nice with that Spanish architecture but it just looks to me like a strawberry on the top of a beef steak. Both are delicious but not tasty together.Thank you 💙
Beautiful plaza with manicured lawn and surrounded by some of the most important buildings of the city:The Government Palace, Lima Metropolitan Cathedral, Archbishops Palace,Municipal Palace andthe Palacio de la Union.Francisco Pizarro himself designated this place to become the central square of the capital in 1535.
Its a must go place if you visit Lima.
Got lucky and arrived to the plaza before the local police had to kick everyone out because of security reasons (aka protesters). They put up fences and only those who lived/worked on the plaza were allowed through. People who purchased tickets for the cathedral tour also were allowed through. If you were nice and the police thought you looked like a tourist they might let you through to the edge of the plaza so that you can get your holiday selfie with the cathedral or palacio de gobierno but they will be watching you until you exit.Nice plaza though.
Peru is beautiful....We caught the tour bus here and theres a nice little outlet mall
The main plaza of the historical central of Lima is one of the must-see places when visiting Lima! The government buildings and cathedrals make this plaza very beautiful, and there are many good restaurants and street vendors nearby. My favorites are Churros San Francisco (5 minutes by walking from the plazaand El Chinito (right in the corner of the plaza).
Great example of a South American plaza with the Cathedral of Lima and Presidential Palace. Access can be limited if there is a local protest - but worth the visit!
Great restaurants, we ate ceviche at Meson del Inca
A beautiful square surrounded by beautiful architecture on all sides in the historic heart of Lima. Great for relaxing and people watching.
Beautiful plaza with great restaurants around it. Go there at late afternoon and stay tillNight time to see the square light up. Visit all the other things around like San Francisco cathedral and others.
Nice place, full of armored policemans ;)
Nice place to visit. Clean, tidy and big whit many photo locations. Definitely must see location in Lima.
This place is a must! ... You have to admire the Spanish colonial architectural influence in this part of Lima, it is a very well maintained place and surrounded by greenery ... definitely an amazing view!
Closed off for pride parade when I visited. Still managed to see it- it is beautiful and grand. Great restaurants around the area but the traffic is bad around it.
Historically, perhaps it deserved a 5.. but as I took photos of Pizarro. A group with Indian roots appeared to be protesting current government and I felt a bit out of place. Nee York, much? But still I felt I have to step out of this.
The center of the center, plaza de armas in Cuzco. The city that was recognized by most of the South Americans as the center of the short lived in an empire, has huge cathedrals, small tienditas, and lively restaurants. There’s always a cool gathering, political, religious or dance event.
Came here twice, first time it was cloudy and was only ok. Second time was sunny and much better. Still I would say it’s only ok but it is also probably one of a very few places to visit in Lima. There are also Lima signs on every corner and you can’t go inside the government building.
The most amazing and historical place in Lima. The main Square, the Catedral, the Government Palace, Chabuca Granda food court. You can find Francisco Pizarros grave (founder of the City in 1518Totally safe to go with children, simply awesome.
Interesting but crowded. Street performers too.
Beautiful buildings and history. Good for tourists for walking around, taking a pictures and having lunch.
Lima itself isnt the most romantic or fantastic city, but the Plaza is a different story. A must see if youre in Lima.
Lovely place with tourist on every step. Restaurants, shops, drinks...
Beautiful place. Lots of history on each corner. Worth to visit with a knowledgeable guide.
Normally this place should be buzzing but we went a week after the 2022 protests and the square was locked down, great place to admire some fantastic examples of classical European architecture
Really a beautiful place to visit. We bought us a coffee in a coffee shop an sipped it comfortably on a bench.
Seat yourself to an exquisite Peruvian high-class meal and top-notch service. Every meal comes with an abundance of amazing flavors and large fullfilling portions here at the Quechua Grill. Salud!
A very beautiful place comparing to the rest of the city. (Un)fortunately we were there a week after some serious protests and they would let only tourists in.
Very clean, safe and very nice to visit. Keep in mind that sometimes they close it due to too many people and you still take pics, many different restaurants across the streets and around the Plaza. Indian markets located 1/3 block away as well. Very cost friendly.
This is one of the best tourist places to take photographs. The Spaniard arquitecture is simply beautiful.
In the center of Lima, Plaza de Armas is a great pit stop if touring the area. Again, only if touring the area. There is so much history with the surrounding buildings. The cathedral is right there! So pretty. I would suggest getting dropped off at Plaza San Martín and walking up to Plaza de Armas on Jirón de la Unión street. Tons of stores on the walk up. I will say the stores surrounding the plaza are touristy and in my opinion, play to the average tourist. Nonetheless, a must see when in Lima.
Beautiful square… unfortunately not accessible today because of some protests against the new government. Very clean and with some old building in a very good state. 👌🏻
Very beautiful Plaza and worth the visit - not only as a tourist! It makes you feel a little bit like you are in Europe or better to say, in Spain.Beautiful buildings, beautiful Plaza with many options around it to either eat a big and full or small meal or to just enjoy a coffee or a hot chocolate. If you are planing to visit the churches or museums arround it, bring some time along as there were long queues to enter.Wonder around the small side streets with its beautiful little shops and cafes.I recommend to visit during the morning hours as the places were not overcrowded - also many shops (clothing etcwere closed. But it definetly feels much safer compared to the evening hours.
The centre of Lima is full of stately buildings from the colonial period, elegant houses with window boxes and balconies, ornate churches, and modern museums housed within beautiful architecture with exquisite azulejos or ceramic tiles. There are so many places to explore so if youre short on time, you need to pick and choose.
This plaza de armas de Lima its a quite place to visit, today, October 22, 2020, this is how it looks like (see photos)There are security guards and police officers are around which is always good, it makes me feel safe.Looks like the plaza de armas is slowly getting back to normal, ok could see some visitors taking some photos there, surely local and nacional tourism is getting better, good for everyone, I miss traveling.
Did a free walking tour around Lima’s Centro Cívico (go to tourist information center! They have so many options and good recommendations!). The area is full of antique, colonial-style buildings (almost all of them are protected by UNESCO. The squares are full of flowers and the churches are gorgeous!! The tour guide was Susana, she knows so many things about her country! Really lovely. At midday we were able to see the change of guards at the National Palace (it happens every midday). Highly recommend this tour.
Beautiful but difficult to acces. The streets around there feel unsafe and dark. We had no access by car so had to park on Plaza San Martin and walk 10 min there via Jiron de La Union, which on a Friday night was full of heavily drunk people
Very nice Plaza, great architecture, lots of restaurants and shops. This place looks nothing like the rest of the city ( except Miraflores ), it has style and quality. One can see the colonial influence and the opulence pumped into this square. If your are looking to escape the rugged reality of the city - come here.
A nice place to walk around basking in the vast colonial era buildings and cathedrals. The colours of the buildings are colourfully pastel. This seems typical of this part of the world. The sun is not hot, just warm enough on most days and there are no rains. The plazas and the buildings are vast, so go girded to walk long distances and carry a bottle of water.Walk in group, dont risk it alone.See the Art Museum to understand some history of the place.
The center of the town, which you have to visit. I came there in the evening and I wish I had started before it started to get dark. But anyway, it was still a nice stroll in the evening. The architecture is definitely something to look at and the lighting in the dark makes it more dramatic. Besides that, there are shops and restaurants nearby.
