Maika's Charcoal Chicken & Takeaway - Fish and chips takeaway in Leeton, Australia
Horrible experience with their customer service. The girl working there is very rude and unprofessional (on 10/28/22 @5:30pm). Won’t order from here again.
Hawaiian BBQ seems so simple yet hard to perfect. This place was really solid, and I must say their food is really up there with other Hawaiian BBQ places in Houston. Their ribs are amazing and not too hard and chewy. Mac salad is just right. I wish this place wasn’t too hidden, they’d get a lot more business.
Their main dishes are ok but my problem is with the lumpia. OVERWHELMING fish taste, lumpia shouldn’t taste like fish. That was extremely off putting. Mac salad could use more flavor
Don’t want to blame the cooks for the off taste, seemed to me like old cheap meat, with a overly chewy texture , couldn’t finish it , took it to my dogs
Good fresh food will be back
I love it! I wonderful hidden gem in Alief and very much deserving of your appetite and time! I ordered the H1- Chicken Combo 10/10. Will visit and order again!
I came in today to tried out maikai on bellaire. back then I used to be a worker at Katy location. Now today I noticed that the ingredients has change since the cabbage is too sweet! The mac salad taste like it doesn’t match up with the plate of c1 or it just makes me wanna puke. The chicken was not bbq and more of a baked since I see no grilled charcoal on the chicken. Which was a big disappointment because it doesn’t not compliment one another. I also ordered fries which is a disappointment too. Not hot and ready but more of redump done fries and soggy. Taste value isn’t worth the money and I was left with bad food and had to go elsewhere to find a better business. . the chairs tables walls and floor are not clean .
The best chicken katsu and crab puff. I could eat here every day if I could afford it.
The online order doesn’t work!!! The staff knows it but it’s not fixed.
Man! Great local Hawaiian style food! Better than that fake Hawaiian bros for sure! Broke da mout!
Ordered take out and the Mix BBQ plate was cooked to perfection. Definitely stopping by again soon. 👍🏾
Highly underrated food! Their food and service never dissapoints!
Truly reminded us of our experience in Hawaii! We got the classic loco moco and Hawaiian BBQ mix and it did not disappoint. Plentiful portions and authentic taste to us!
Met Andy today, not sure if hes the owner but makes it a point to remember people and was very friendly. The food is phenomenal, the vibe inside is very cool. If youre looking for fantastic food and to be treated like a friend, look no further!
Very delicious, inexpensive lunch
I got attracted by a Facebook ad on a Friday afternoon for a limited time Tuesday special $5.95. the photo was so appetizing. So I came.Staff was friendly to introduce their menu. I ordered a mix plate of Hawaiian BBQ chicken and chicken katsu. And a teriyaki chicken plate. OMG. They are so ono and tasted like in Hawaii as I am used to.Ill be back for more island style dining.
Awesome! The cashier was so thoughtful and kind. He walked me through the menu on my first visit and gave honest opinions. That was cool. The food tasted great and it was quite filling.Would definitely return.
10 dollars or less for a bug majority of the dishes here. Filling portions and interesting drinks! Im not a big fan of the pasta that comes with a lot of the dishes but the price is so cheap its still worth it for the selectiong of meats and rice.
When I opened up my box of food I wanted to cry. I just kept saying thank you Jesus cause I could smell that rice and that meat together and I knew it was about to go down. I had the Hawaiian sampler and that beef and chicken was on another level. I felt like I was in the home of a Polynesian family and was getting served a plate from Tutu! Thank you guys I am very pleased and will be back
This place had been on my radar for a little while and wanting to try something different I gave it a go. We got both the H2 and H4 as well as some lumpia in order to get a sample of different things. The H2 had the barbecue chicken, some sort of beef and short ribs. The H4 had the BBQ chicken, fried fish, and fried shrimp. Both boxes also came with rice, some sort of macaroni thing and a veggie ... Maybe it was cabbage? The barbecue chicken, beef, fried shrimp, and macaroni were all super delicious. The fried fish was good but nothing special. The short ribs were tasty but a little chewy. The lumpia were all right we could have been fried a little more. Overall the food was good. All the food together was about 30 bucks and more than enough for two people. I kind of wish there was a combo of the chicken, beef, and shrimp since those were my favorite three parts.I wouldnt mind trying some of the other stuff they have,. Also, I saw a sign about a Thursday special so I might go check that out
Great food for a great price. The macaroni salad is very good. I highly recommend going at least one to try yourself.
First time trying Hawaiian food and it was delicious!!! Friendly staff and the food came out quickly. We had the rib bbq, teriyaki chicken and the mixed plate. The portions are a good size and will fill you up. It’s not at all expensive and you get a good bang for your buck
The food has a unique taste. They do sell hawain drinks but only in a can maybe try to sell other forms of drinks in the future?? maybe idk really. Its good dont get me wrong but one is just is just not enough. they do have regular drinks so that kinda helps. Secondly I love the Chicken katsu with the Katsu sauce its really good. Whats is to die for is the mac salad and the hawain mix. It comes with kali ribs, beef and bbq chicken I believe. However my kids are a little picky eater because of the kali ribs so they just get grill chiken or fish with fiys on the side. the plate size are good so you will get full. other than that I think this is better than fast food. dinning area is open now so thats a plus
Their $5 Chicken Special on Tuesdays is the bomb! It comes with 2 scoops of rice and a large amount of chicken done your way. The portion is big enough to feed 2 people! Ive only tried the Hawaiian BBQ chicken so far and Im already hooked! The chicken is well-seasoned, not dry, on a bed of yummy cabbages. While youre at it, try their Spam musubi and Macaroni salad. One order of Spam musubi consists of 2 pieces. Give this place a try, you wont regret it!
First time eating the food and sadly it will be the last. The mac salad is bland, the kalbi is overly fatty and the chicken is gummy. Believe me I totally understand were not in Hawaii but this didnt even come close. The ONLY good thing was the Lilikoi Passion drink. I did have very high hopes and was let down.
My wife and I decided to stop by to try it out. We brought home a family meal and a few other things and it was a hit. Everyone liked it, well be back. Staff was very friendly as well.
Our first visit to Maika’i, but not our first Hawaiian BBQ - we absolutely loved it! Sauces were delicious, beef and spam musubi was delicious, katsu and bbq chicken were delicious. Friendly staff! You must eat here.
Its great to have a taste of aloha from the owner/ staff to the many ono plate lunches. Sticky rice n mac salad. Ho! This broke da mouth . Asst musubi topped with an aloha juice drink. Nice to find in Texas. Mahalos plenty
Our family loves Hawaii food and this hit the spot. The Tuesday special is fantastic. We had 6 orders of Mac salad and that didn’t last long at all.
Great neighborhood restaurant! Interior is bright and colorful, without feeling cheesy. Staff is friendly and fast. Portions are large, tasty, and reasonably priced - a hallmark of Hawaiian food. All the classics are here - chicken katsu, loco moco, kalua pork, mac salad, etc. and yes they are good. Also, they have Aloha juices! The only thing missing that I can think of is that it would be cool to play some music from contemporary Hawaiian artists in the restaurant.
First time eating here. I ordered a combo plate to go. When I got to the car, I opened the container and was pleasantly surprised how much meat was there. But when I got home and started eating, I realized there was a bunch of cooked cabbage, under the meat so it only LOOKED like there was a lot of meat. For $11, I think there should have been more.(It tasted great, by the way--just not enough)
I got the combo. The food was fresh, hot, delicious and the portions were very generous. I couldnt finish it. Quality and quantity, what more can you ask for. Will definitely be back.
This place is ok, you do get a nice portion but the macaroni is more of a coleslaw macaroni. This place can not compare to a Hawaiian Brothers. I highly doubt I will be back, also only drink options were 12oz cans.
Good food with excellent portions. The price is good for the main entrees. I could have used more of the teriyaki sauce. Will definitely come back. Been missing good Hawaiian BBQ since I lived in Atlanta. The decor and atmosphere could use a little more liveliness, to really make it an experience rather than just something to eat.
Love the original store and this current branch. Well priced and big servings. Good array of choices. Was shocked at the 4.0 rating because I expected better. Turns out the 1-2 star reviews here are from the old Vietnamese restaurant located at the same address.
can not get any better. best hawaiian bbq and price.
Truly "phanh-tastic" pho!! A lot of people come here for the old hu tieu place (which moved across the street within walking distance). And they kept the name, but serve only pho now, hence the name, but people still come in (and many leave for the other restaurant). The manager/waitress here is honest and very friendly. The soup broth is by far the best Ive had around Houston. The beef broth is rich and flavorful with the time and preparation you can smell and taste. Ive tried both the typical house special pho (Pho Dac Biet), and the dry pho (pho khoand I can say they are both delicious.Give this place a shot, and if youre feeling adventurous, try the "xí quách" (bowl of beef bone/marrow), where all the broth flavor comes from. Its a must-have for us when were there.UPDATE: still awesome, but now accepts credit cards!! Also added a broken rice dish to their menu "com thit nuong", and their chicken/beef is well-marinated, juicy, and delicious.
DEAD FLY IN THE SOUP!!! Horrible first time experience here. The old man server is so rush, didnt give us time to check out the menu. Making us confusing while ordering, very unprofessional. When the soup came out, theres a dead fly in it. I was terrified but I didnt want to make it big deal, so I just asked them to change the soup. They didnt even sorry about it. Never come here again!
This new pho place is hands down amazing. I was a big fan of Phanh Ky hu tieu (they moved down the blockbut finally came around to trying this. The broth is rich and flavorful and EVERYTHING was extremely fresh from the soft and tender meat to the crispy bean sprouts and mint. They also have yummy fried bread (chao quaythat pairs well with their bone marrow side dish (chen trung tuy). They are also the only ones who dry beef pho (pho bo khoso I will have to try that next time. But it seemed like it was good from what the customers next to me were saying. Give em a shot!
I would say PHO is one of my hobby, I have tried many restaurants with PHO at Bellaire. But here, Phanh Ky, They nailed me, the soup 🍲 is really got a good smell, soft beef, good meatball as well. The spice is delicious. I hit 5* because of that. Also, the customer service is so friendly, politely. I would suggest this place.
Wonton egg noodle soup: broth is flavorful and condiments are freshly appropriate for my order. It has the flavor youd expect from the soup. It had sliced bee, pork and wontons - it had shrimp as well, scallions, sauted garlic, onions. I enjoyed it very much... at 9:30am on a Saturday morning and it was packed already. Any more patrons they would have had to wait outside I think -- BEFORE LUNCH TIME / NOON TIME!
A good friend introduced us to this place and weve been going ever since (we recently started only going to the one in Katy now). The soup here took my tastebuds to new heights- took us a bit to reintroduce pho back into our lives (and yes, I know they are so different- but when we wanted soup we kept choosing Hu Tieu!). The Katy location is fantastic as well with superb customer service.
I love the food here, but not the service. I just came back there last week after the last time almost 2 years ago because of the bad experience with bad service. They changed all new waiters and waitresses. So, the service get so much improving now. I will coming back
Forget PHO!! Hu Tieu is tastier! Especially at this place. I like to get clear noodles with soup. Cant go wrong with it. Every year when I come back it still tastes the same. Why is the broth here so good???
We normal come here on Sun which is the busiest day, I guess. Staffs are friendly and quick. They will always try to make seats, take order and bring out food as fast as they can. To me Phanh Ky has best hu tieu broth in Houston. Would recommend this restaurant.
My friend and I enjoy our lunches but too bad for me because I am a slow eater. The restaurant kindly push customers to faster so they can fit new one coming. The foods is I recommend yes. If youre slow eater liked me and promised you not go there.
Food is good. Service staffs using the same tile that wiped all over the floor and go pick up food (salad plateand bring it to customer table without wash their hand. Be careful you might get a shower with left over soup.

Delicious meal! I ordered item D3 - Mixed Dried rice noodle& egg noodle. I recommend ordering the dried version. Taste much better with the sweet savory sauce. The reason for only three stars is their poor customer service. We kept on asking for water and couldnt get any water until toward the end of our meal.
This place was pretty busy at lunch. This is my first time here. The noodle that I had was Hu Thiếu dai with mì. It wasnt that good and the portion was also small. Since it was busy, I thought it would taste better than what I experienced. However, nothing special to look for at this place on my next trip to Houston from a 4 hours drive.
