Amazing place to visit during summer.
We like Opatija very much. The stature was nice, there is a cool self picture service by the tourist organization called opatijariviera.
nice statue by the sea, beautiful for sunset
Very nice quiet town of Opatija. But then it was not prime time for tourists; lucky us.
Beautiful Opatija! But also very expensive 🙈
Nice!
Symbol of city Opatija. Beautiful sculpture with a dove in her hand. The best view is from a ship.
I have never was here but i found some old foto made from this place
Perfect, and no more comment.
Nice spot where the most popular statue of Opatija is located.
THE MAIDEN WITH THE SEAGULLThe statue of Maiden with the seagull is a symbol, not only of Opatija, but the entire Kvarner region. Elegantly standing on the reef beside Lungomare promenade in Opatija, it intrigues all passengers with her interesting story and identity which was unknown for decades.HOW THE STORY BEGUN?The story begins in distant 1891. when count Arthur Kesselstadt tragically lost his life in a spring storm in the sea in front of Opatija. Devastated with grief, count´s family put the statue of “Madonna Del Mare” on the reef to wake for her lost soul. Because of harsh weather conditions the sculpture was damaged and later restored. Its gilded replica can now be seen in St James´s Church above the Riviera, while the original is kept in the Croatian Museum of Tourism in the Villa Angiolina.THE NEW STATUE ARRIVESAs the place where the “Madonnina” once stood was left empty, it was decided to put another statue in its place. The “Maiden with the Seagull” was put up in 1956. The beautiful view of the sea extends in front of the statue. The scenery is especially impressive by night, when the Maiden is lighted with special reflectors or during the stormy weather when waves splash and water scatters over the reef giving the appearance of a nymph rising from the spray. That is the reason why one of the nicknames locals gave to the Maiden is the “Nymph”.WHO IS THE GIRL?You might be wondering who the Maiden with the Seagull really is. For 55 years no one had the answer to this question, until Mrs. Jelena Jendrašić from Crikvenica revealed that it was her who served as the model for the statue. The author of the statue, sculptor Zvonko Car, did not want to reveal the identity of the “Maiden with the Seagull”, saying: “Those who want to know should make a guess”!It took more than a year for the sculpture to be finished and during that time Mrs. Jelena would pose for hours… It is interesting to know that Mrs. Jelena and Mr. Zvonko were neighbors in Crikvenica. The artist would call her “My Opatija lady”, just like he used to affectionately call his statue.

Super ❤💙
One of the most famous spots in Opatija - beautiful for taking photos
Amazing place!
Good place to visit at the beach and among historical buildings at the old city
Very nice place with great view :)
The story of the Maiden with the Seagullactually begins in 1891, during Opatija’s tourist boom, when the unfortunate count Arthur Kesselstadt and his wife, countess Fries, fell victim to a raging storm not far from the rocks where the maiden now stands. The count’s family, overcome with grief, installed a sculpture of the Madonna on the rocks to honor their son’s memory. Over the years, however, the statue itself also suffered from harsh conditions at sea, and after extensive damage, it was removed, restored, and now stands in the Croatian Museum of Tourism in historic Villa Angiolina. In 1956, another maiden took the Madonna’s place – this time a statue by Croatian sculptor Zvonko Car. This young girl, clad in a light shift, her palm outstretched to a fluttering seagull, embodies life on the Adriatic – light, breezy, carefree, with a hint of elegance. For years, no one knew the identity of the girl. Recently Jelena Jendrasic, Car’s neighbor in Crikvenica, finally revealed that it was she who served as a model for the statue.
Nice place to have a walk, but girl with a seagul is nothing special... though it became symbol of the Opatija, and in a joke they say if you dont make a pocture there it is like you didnt visit Opatija :but there are mich better places around, to make nice photos
OPATIJA is the Riviera of Croatia and lives up to its reputation. Wonderful promenade, beach, and restaurants.
Nice spot in the rocks nearby the sea in a “meh” area. Anything really special.
Opatija is old classic town with many monuments. It is worth visiting
The maiden with the seagull is just a part of a very nice sea walk through Opatija that is very nice. Just to the South of this statue is a fantastic park with lots of trees, shrubs, flowers etc. many walking paths. Just to the north of this statue and across the street is a fantastic fountain that changes colours and patterns. Just a very nice area!
It is an amazing experience to se such a beautiful statue that is a symbol of the town of Opatija over looking the beautiful adriatic sea..and if you are sneaky you can get an even closer look😉
It is a statue of a girl with a seagul, bin there at march and it was very windy so dress warm in winter months. The view is the best bouth at night an by day. It is a part of a 14km long walking path that runs by the sea. I thin it was worth it to wisit opatija in winter months. It is worth it to see it all without extreme crowds around.
Perfect walk, nice swimming coves

I was amazed by beautiful statue on the perfect spot! Looks so alive 😍
A great landmark, in case you loose each other, very much a major part of Opatija and the history of this beautiful seaside resort. We loved everything about Opatija and this is one small but important part of the resort.
The view is breathtaking when it comes to sunset! You can sail the rented boat nearby, also the restaurant is quite busy but great with seafood!
Its good to walk and have a picture
The place is very nice for a holiday. Hotels and restaurants in every corner. Lots of beaches and pools in hotels. The beach is really amazing with a long promenade, colorful and simply wonderful. The food is very tasty. Very nice people. There is a desire to go back there.
Opatje...lovely city...
Looks really good but, the cafes and restaurants there are not that good. The quality is to be desired because they know you probably wont be back....
Beautiful Statue & worth a visit, especially at night when you have the lights of Optija in the background!
Beautiful view of the city and the sea, perfect place to shoot some panorama photos. Theres a big park with lots of flowers for relaxing, and a nice little church as well.
Delightful backdrop and placement of this statue; reminds me a great deal of Stockholms Little Mermaid statue
Lovely, wonderful sea side
Sehr ausgezeichnete Denkmal! Wonderful! View on the sea with this statue is really beautiful. Nevermind if the weather is good or bad, i really liked Opatija town. Will come again for sure in this comfortable and beautiful town. The beaches aswell look really nice and water is clean.

There’s really a seagull on the statue!
One of the best view of the city
It is an ok statue, too bad it is facing away. Best pictures can be taken from the sunbathing area nearby. The nearby Park Angiolina has more to offer.
