Mahzen in Ipswich

We always enjoy our trips to Mahzen. The owner has always been the same and is very welcoming and friendly. Staff were very attentive and happy. Food is always good but we always manage to fill ourselves up on the starters (eat too much bread before the mains come out so be careful what you order.

Perfectly cooked tasty kebabs. Easy to get to behind Ipswich waterfront.

Excellent food and hosts. However, we had a toddler who had just turned 3 yesterday. She couldnt reach for her food or drink when eating. I had to feed her and ended up putting our jackets on her chair to give her a boost so she could reach the table. Its really a shame that they dont have high chairs. I could have given a 5 star however, because of no high chair it has to be a 4.

Fantastic Turkish food. Great quality kebabs and done on a dining level rather than a takeaway level of quality so well worth the price.Dining inside was really nice layout and great quick staff.

Out to celebrate our daughters exam results! Everyone and everything in mahzen made this a night to remember, food, service, ambiance was amazing.🥂thank you for making a night to remember.

The food was to toff.I ordered the mix grill.The lamb was un eatable.To raw and toff cant chew it.I completed and the waiter said I will tell the chef..And nothing after that.And when I paid the bill the manager was so rudely spoke to me. And did not even apologise..Very bad 1 person £28Rubbish service

Delicious food, great atmosphere.

Food was amazing. Kind staff and speedy service 😁 especially my wife loved the sea bass and the sauce. Only problem we didnt bring baby push chair and they didnt have baby chair.

Lovely food and plenty of it. Everyone enjoyed the meze starters and then had individual mains. The lamb was melt in the mouth good and was nicely spiced. Very enjoyable.

We opted for a large selection of mezze rather than a main. Although all the dishes were excellent, the Arnavut Liver was a standout success. A decent choice of Turkish wines alongside rhe grub. My first time here, definitely not my last. Outstanding.

Table booked for 6pm we arrived a few minutes early, and had to wait for the table to be ready. We waited 15mins to place a drinks order and a further 15-20mins to place food (they were not busy). We asked the waiter why gluten free options were only listed against the starters. Apparently, i can have anything on the menu its because the menu has bulgar wheat rice but they can exchange that for chips which makes it gluten free. I ordered my meal only to receive it with bread at the bottom so I checked woth waitress that it was wheatfree bread to be told no and she walked off. I explained to another waitress its not good as this will make me ill so they took it away and cooked me something else. They blamed me for what I ordered even thought I informed the waitress it needs to be gluten free, not sure what else I could do. DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU SUFFER A FOOD ALLERGY. Some staff do not understand. Most places have wheatfree products as substitutes or a separate GF menu. They never apologised therefore, thats says they do not understand the severity of the matter. By the time my next meal arrived my party had all finished and we ran over the 2hour table slot which could have all been avoided if the waitress had been trained.

Visited for family celebration and really enjoyed. The atmosphere, food and service was excellent. There is choice for vegetarian dishes for sharing and the portion size is really filling. My favourite dish was Mussaka and Ayran for drink! Only downside is parking needs to be at waterside car park opposite and is expensive.

Great food. Cant remember what the name of what I got was. My partner and I loved it. Defo will go back.

Amazing food and great service. I was with a group of 18 so didnt know what to order but the girls there were brilliant in helping out with that and with generally looking after us.

We were very fortunate to get a table without advance booking, and were extremely impressed with the restaurant.We ordered the hot meze platter and added 3 items from the cold meze.The hot meze were delicious and beautifully presented, each one with its own specific dip. My personal favourite was the fried halloumi.The cold meze were also very appetizing, and the complimentary breads went well with the dips we ordered.My son and I both had Efes beer which was very pleasant.The service was good and the staff friendly and helpful.Highly recommend this restaurant - but make sure you book!

The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great but we did have to wait quite a long time for the food to arrive. That being said it wouldnt put me off going again

Both the food and the service here was fantastic. The attention to detail from Kerry was second-to-none. The food was excellent; the lamb extremely tender and the chicken beautifully succulent. The prices are more than reasonable at less than £5 a pint and £15 - £20 per course. The hot meze is ideal to feed two as a starter, and at £20, represents good value in my opinion.

Pricey compared to London. They only gave us an hour slot. Felt like I was rushed to eat. The adana was nice and moist.

Dont order from the meze. Very disappointing experience. We love Turkish food, specially the meze but here these are very disappointing. We ordered the Sigara Borek which is clearly store bought and not made with filo pastry neither and they serve it with cheap grated cheese on top. Very bland and sad. We also had the Hummus Kavurma. This was probably the most upsetting as it is my favourite dish and the reason we chose to dine here. We had this dish at every Turkish restaurants we went to and this was by far the worst. The lamb wasnt fresh (taste and smellat all and if the hummus isnt store bought is quite bad. They warmed up all together in a pan (as the waitress explainedand served us this shame of Hummus Kavurma.Our main was ok, although the bread at the bottom Lamb Kofte Iskender was hard - felt like eating pieces of plastic, but the sauce was tasty and and the meat as well.We gave our feedback to the waitress and the gentleman at the till but neither of them seemed to care about it...

The food at mahzen was amazing, cant wait to go back again. We managed to get a walk in seat mid week. Would recommend the sharing 4 person option.

Table for 8pm still waiting for main course at 9.30, and chefs had all disappeared. Not offered dessert.Young lad took our complaint to management who then reduced total bill by 50%. Food was good but experience was very poor.

Delicious as always. My one snag is the table time limit of 2 hours on the weekend, which means you have to rely on fast service if you have a lot of people. We ended up with no time for dessert which was a shame. The starter and main were very good though.

Headed here for dinner tonight. Staff very pleasent. Had a meat share plate for 4 bwtween 3 as we are big eaters and it was lovely. All the near was so flavoursome and tender. Had sole flat breads so kept making little kebabs! Awesome!Would come back for sure.

The food was delicious but the staff was ridiculous. Despite of having plenty of empty tables 12 of us were squeezed to a 10 seater table. I got my drink at 5:59 and at 6pm we were told to leave as the table is booked for another group. There was only one another group at the restaurant at that time.They forgot to serve a dessert to a member of our group and when we asked for it the second time we were told we could have it as a takeaway as we needed to leave immediately. When we paid we were told we were eating up the other group’s time. I have never seen such rudeness in any other restaurants. It is a shame. We will never come back as this behaviour is unacceptable.

Food was fantastic! Great portions at a very reasonable price. It was busy when I visited so food took a while, nearly an hour wait and no-one spoke to us to let us know. Other than that, really good evening out.

Fantastic meal! We got the 4 person platter and we were stuffed! The meats were all delicious. I would definitely come back again!

My Son and partner treated me for my Birthday..The food and service is amazing. The well trained staff looked after us extremely well. Such a plate load of beautiful food, cooked to a high standard. Well presented and came piping hot. You are able to watch from your table the food being prepared. Exceptional and come highly recommended.

For eating in, I would have given more stars as the food is really nice and waiting staff are very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately very disappointed with the new takeaway/delivery service. Complete rip off for the shared meze, meant for 2 people, only one of each thing per person (4 choicesand a tiny portion of mushrooms for £19. Is it really acceptable to charge that much for what we received in the photo? Definitely wont be ordering again. Was glad we ordered extra bread, it was the only thing that filled us up! I think a £32 order is a bit ridiculous on 2 people when bread is the saving grace to fill you up.

It was my first time dining in in Mahzen. Prices were friendly and the staff were accommodating. I tried the Mix Kebab and enjoyed it greatly.

We booked late with 15 minutes notice (4 adults and 3 childrenand the the staff accommodated us brilliantly. The mixed mezze for starters and the mixed grill platter was absolutely fantastic. Both the food and service were fantastic and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the place. Maybe a little more choice on the children’s menu would help but all in all a great place and a very good choice.

Undercooked chicken! So disappointing. We have eaten here before and it has been fabulous. Unfortunately today my daughter was served undercooked chicken wings not once but twice. What i didnt like was the senior waiter tried to tell myself and my husband it was a different type of chicken and was cooked. You look at the pictures and decide. Yes, the red bit is blood. That said the rest of our meals (including chickenwas really tasty. And cooked. These things happen but dont try to tell me its all fine when it clearly isnt.

Absolutely delicious! Hot meze was amazing, mains as well, really yummy. Baklava was to die for and a lovely way to end the meal. Staff very friendly, would definitely recommend the place.

I’ve been here before and was “so so” but having been again this week I must say I had a really lovely meal. The cold starter selection was great (would’ve like some more bread” as was the meat sharing platter. Definitely worth a try.

Mediterranean, Barbecue, European, Turkish, Middle Eastern cuisine with Vegetarian Friendly, Vegan Options, & Gluten Free Options.Their food is food has been cooked to perfection and ofcourse the aroma is breathtaking.I suggest making a reservation on Fridays and Saturdays as the restaurant is very popular at these times.

Quite simply, a great restaurant. Having not made a booking and seeking as it was early, we thought we would try our luck and they managed to fit us in but advised the table had to be back for another booking in an hour and a half, not a problem for us as we just wanted some food, sharpish! We ordered 6 cold meze and asked the chef to choose, what an excellent introduction. I especially liked the spicy one and also the carrot slaw type thing. The flat bread was to die for as well, we went through 3 bowls for 3 of us! For mains we had the mahzen platter for 4 to split between the 3 of us. The quality of the food was excellent. It had chops, chicken/lamb shish, chicken/lamb kofte, chicken wings and other delights all on a bed of bulga wheat served along side a plate of salad and with a couple of dips. The meat was cooked to perfection and all the accompanying dishes were spot on. Had a very nice bottle of turkish wine (kayra kalecik karasi red), and highly recommended of you like pinot noir or that sort of thing. All in all, I will be back...!

Restaurant is very pretty with great Turkish traditional music. Staff is very helpful and quick. When it comes to food...what can I say? Mind blowing. It was pure explosion of flavours. I recommend x100!

A simple choice of food but very well cooked and presented. My swordfish was superb. Feels a little cramped on busy nights.

Mahzen is okay, if youre a veggie be prepared for lackuster mains but the starters are good at least. The service can be slow and if youre not a group of women dont expect much attention for the male waiters. Overall the resturant is overpriced for what you get especially in Ipswich but Im sure these days this is what is classed as "good food" in Ipswich :( .

The Lamb Beyti was superb, a deliciously smokey, meaty slice of heaven, just everything youd want from a Turkish barbecue. Excellent service and great value. Looking forward to my next visit.

Oh my, absolutely loved the food here. Full of flavour, especially great if you love Turkish meat!
