Really interesting area, especially watching the application of gold leaf to Buddha statues.Make sure you check out "Buddha Street,"where the craftsmen show great skill creating marble Buddhas. If you have a problem with dust, best not to go to this street.
This pagoda have a unique type of buddha statue and it is connected well to the main road !! It is associated with little park, market and two ponds with water attractions !! If you are to yangon and you love pagodas take this in your list
You can visit the oldest Buddha-image in the country, said to be portrayed about Buddha himself. If you are a guy, you can go and make an offering with these thin gold plates, and pray/wish. It is a fascinating statue and you can feel the holiness of the whole place. A must do if you are in Mandalay.
The huge Buddha statue covered with gold, master peace of Mandalay. Local peoples believed that is living Buddha image because of his legend. Thus they treated as alive Buddha in the morning and evening everyday.
Its the second holiest temple in Myanmar. Women not allowed close to buddha to put gold plating, but can worship from a distance. Has two museums, one bronze museum and a history museum. Has lots of small shrines all around. Its an ancient temple renovatedover centuries and has a lot of history. Even has a lake where one can feed birds, turtles and fishes. The presence is amazing, one can spend a lot of time in front of the mahamuni statue.
This is a Buddhist temple & also a major pilgrimage site. The Mahamuni Buddha image (literal meaning: The Great Sageis deified in this temple, and originally came from Arakan. It is highly venerated in Burma and central to many peoples lives, as it is seen as an expression of representing the Buddhas life.
This is an amazing temple to be in. There is a K5000 entrance fee for foreigners. This temple has got so much gold in its interior and exterior that it looks so magnificent. Here, you get to witness devout worshippers apply gold leaf on the buddha statue. Theres a video live stream as well as women are not allowed near it. Theres also a bronze statue museum on-site with English explanations and an art gallery which details the faith in Myanmar. Would definitely recommend a visit here.
Like all temples, shoes and socks off. Theyll provide you with a wet tissue to clean your feet and a place to store your shoes as well as a map plus a longyi to borrow if you need one. The cost the get in was 5000 kyats. Lots of touristy trinkets for sale. Have fun haggling.

Sacred Buddhist temple of Mandalay. We can see the generosity of Myanmar people who worship Buddha with valuable thin gold leaflets which became small bulbs after repeated compilation. They worship Buddha statue as a living person thus wash the face with scented water and brush the teeth at dawn by an elected dedicated senior monk. Then donate alms after this.If you would like to watch this you get up early and go to pagoda before 4:00 am.

If you have a lucky chance to go Mandalay (Myanmar), The Mahamuni Buddha Temple is the first place that you should pay a visit. Every morning around 6:00am the monk will perform the face washing to the Buddha. I love this Temple.
This temple is famous for the many people that come to add gold leaves to the Buddha situated inside.
Summer season is so hot, but here is great and also big history in Mandalay MYANMAR. Place have many as publicly. THNAK
The pagoda is very beautiful. There are many fish in the lake which you can feed. One bucket of fish food costs 7000 kyats and one basket costs 500 kyats. On Sunday, the place is very crowded, but the garden is beautiful.
Wow, what an interesting place. Unfortunately, you cant actually see the gold leaf Buddha, but they do have pictures of it at various years going back to 1935 so you can see the transition as it gets more and more gold leaves on it. The surrounding building is pretty impressive too. It seems to be a very holy place for people so please be respectful here.
Nice temple with various shops all around it. Key attraction there is the buddha inside, where many people queue to go see and get close to it. Note that foreign tourists have to pay a MMK1,000 camera fee at the entrance to be able to take photos. Female visitors as well as Male visitors not adequately dressed are also not allowed inside the buddha circle but they can get a good view from not far. Furthermore, there is a live TV stream of the buddha for those unable to get too near.
The compound and the lake itself is worth the visit. Theres a 1000 fee that every tourist had to pay no matter what and i guess thats unfair. But its just my opinion.
one of my favorite places in Mandalay. so sacred, the ceremony at 4am is a must-visit.

This is one of the must visit places in mandalay. It is also known as Paya Gyi. It is one of the most sacred places around there. The Buddha statue was made by bronze and covered with gold plating. But it has become very think in gold that you cant properly see the Buddha statue. People who wear pants are not allowed to go inside the pagoda, you have to wear the traditional dress called longyi. Dont worry, they will give you that. But the women arent allowed to go into the chamber where the statue is kept, although theyre allowed to go into the pagoda. If you want to catch something special, go there at four thirty in the morning and youll see the monks washing the face and brushing the teeth of the statue. And they do it everyday so feel free to go.

The Mahamuni Buddha Temple (Burmese: မဟာမုနိဘုရားကြီး, Burmese pronunciation: [məhà mṵnḭ pʰəjádʑí]; also called the Mahamuni Pagodais a Buddhist temple and major pilgrimage site, located southwest of Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma(Myanmar).[1] The Mahamuni Buddha image (literal meaning: The Great Sageis deified in this temple, and originally came from Arakan.[2] It is highly venerated in Burma and central to many peoples lives, as it is seen as an expression of representing the Buddhas life.[3]Ancient tradition refers to only five likenesses of the Buddha, made during his lifetime; two were in India, two in paradise, and the fifth is the Mahamuni Buddha image in Myanmar.[1][2][4][5][6] According to the legend, the Buddha visited the Dhanyawadi city of Arakan in 554 BC.[1] King Sanda Thuriya requested that an image was cast of him. After casting the Great Image, the Buddha breathed upon it, and thereafter the image became the exact likeness of the Mahamuni.
My first stop in Mandalay was here at Maher Myat Muni Pagoda. As always you must leave your shoes, etc. and walk barefoot. You walk past many merchants selling goods before getting to the pagoda. Here you must pay camera fees, but they dont apply to mobile phone cameras. Here only males can enter the central area with the big Buddha statue. I was ask by a local woman to present an offering on here behalf which is common.
