Maguires Cafe on The Hill of Tara - Coffee shop in Navan, Ireland
Great spot in a beautiful setting! We had lunch there recently and the food was just amazing. Looking forward to our next visit already! Thanks folks! 😊
Beautiful place for coffee and breakfast . Also a marvelous gift shop. Parking place and toilet facilities available
Huge amount of staff behind the counter with no sense of organisation. They say us at a table in a walk way, said they were going to clean another table for us and then seemingly forgot about us until we got up to leave. The menu you’re given and the menu on the blackboard are also totally different and once you enter the seating area - you can’t see the larger menu.A few thoughtful changes and this place could be great.
Great selection of food here, lots of lovely things to buy in the gift shop. Great place to visit after taking in the Hill of Tara .
Got a taste of their new pizza oven! The pizzas are savage! Go try them!
Went here for lunch on Sunday. However with no explanation from staff the kitchen was closed. Couldnt even get a sandwich from the display. Staff were unhelpful and provided an exceptionally poor visitor experience. Ended up getting tea and had to rummage through lids to find an appropriately fitting lid.
Cracker little cafe and gift shop. Food is of a decent quality and fair prices.
Excelent shop. Friendly staff. Very good vine. A lot of things to buy. The owner is briliant, very trustful, honest and friendly person. Recomended. I will come back there.
Great spot to relax after a nice walk and then to sit in or out, with a coffee or juice food its also excellent
Good cafe for breakfast, friendly and efficient. Shop has a huge range of stuff.
Fantastic place with wonderful staff. Especially Lee who always welcomes you with a warm smile and makes you feel welcome, remembers what you normally have and makes you feel right at home. Nice menu with good variety. Well worth many many visits.
I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try out this chic cafe while touring the Hill of Tara with my husband and 10 month old a few days ago, and I must say it was one of, if not, the BEST decisions I have ever made! I could feel the loving and warm atmosphere with every fibre of my being, the meals were well prepared and tasty, the view of the nature outside was breathtaking, and the staff were just incredible - most notably the waiter, Lee. This diligent young man catered to our every need and ensured that our experience was nothing less than spectacular. When our baby Ma’kayleigh became fussy just as we began to dine, he took it upon himself to soothe her and kept her entertained for the duration of our meal. When we complained about the slight chill, he ra- SPRINTED to the back to adjust the thermostat just for us. But I think what really cemented my deep love for Maguires cafe was when Lee overheard my husband and I discussing his recent diagnosis of renal failure and our distress regarding the search for a donor. Without a word, Lee rus- LEAPED into the kitchen and performed nephrectomy right there and then, and handed BOTH kidneys to my husband. Not only did he do this, he also offered to perform the organ transplant as well but we couldnt allow this, so as to not rob other customers of his amazing service. He only humbly accepted our many thanks and hefty tip as we prepared to rush to the nearest hospital - the match was a success! Thanks to Mr. Lee, my husband will live to see our baby girl grow up, and the birth of our unborn son, who we will most definitely be naming Lee. Thanks a million Maguires, you made this family vacation one to remember 🇺🇸 💘
Very disappointed today, the service was shocking. Food arrived without drinks. I had to ask three times for butter and twice for our drinks. Overpriced food. Had to then queue to pay for our food, standing with cold blowing in. Eventually we got to top of queue . I asked the waiter why I was being overcharged twice for an extra on a panini , a euro for each. We had one ham panini and one cheese panini. On the menu it was advertised as a cheese and ham panini. The staff told me I had to pay extra because the chef had to make it up.Ludicrous, pay more for less food. I thought it was the chefs job to make the orders!!We are locals and visit regularly. I certainly wont be returning to maguires for any meals with this service and charges .
Lunch very tasty ,well presented and nice sized portions. Staff friendly and efficient. Only gripe is €9 for 3 teas. Will definitely return
Absolutely loved this place, living local it was our go to place,ice-cream,pancakes,after school treats, morning coffee with friends, dog walks etc, being awhile but went today to my horror, the place has gone down hill big time, mildew on all outside furniture, staff ignorant, and you have to order your food before you get your table?warm coffee and no more Tara special?come on guys remember why and how you became so busy, and bring our little bit of heaven back🤔
Dreadfully disappointing. No kids menu - no option to purchase anything except full size adult portions. We asked for various different options - and were stonewalled at each turn. We asked for adult meal to be shared between two small children - we were charged for a portion of wedges for one child.Service was very poor - waiting for ages for drinks, repeatedly requesting the same drinks. The visit to the cafe was a treat as a long-awaited get-together. But we left tense and with crying upset children.Spoke to manager on the day - and received absolutely no help or suggestions.Food mediocre at best. Total rip-off at this most historic location.
Was disappointed that they had started charging for the car park immediately opposite. Understand its probably to control the use of it by people visiting the hill but would be a good idea if they offered free parking for customers. As it is Ill be less likely to visit in future
Menu has changed. Its now a pub grub menu. They did beautiful light Sandwiches and Paninis. Menus were dirty and staff unaware of what was on the menu.
Food was nice but waiting 40mins for 2 sandwiches was ridiculous. Nothing offered by way of an apology and people were being served before us having arrived well after us. Mentioned it 3 times to staff. Wasnt even that busy at all.
Maguires used to be a favourite but after todays service will no longer be on our option list for Sunday lunch. Disorganised and too many staff behind the counter creating confusion and incorrect orders with lengthy delays. We chose to remain and waited to be seated. When sitting at the table noticed a few empty tables yet a que outside. Table seating capacity also did not match seated customers, huge waste. Couples seated at 4 seat tables while twin tables remained open.Water was brought through in a filthy bottle and paper cups provided. The meal, once a favourite, Beef & Guinness stew with mash failed to live up to previous occasions. Overcooked and bland. Hopefully Maguires get this right as it remains a perfect location.
Had lunch here today, shortly after beginning my food I noticed what looked to be chewing gum stuck to my plate. Standards do seem to have dropped here over the past while but this simply should not happen.
We stopped into Maguires late on a Sunday evening on the way to watch the sunset on Tara Hill. As it was a bright but chilly evening we decided to bring some hot drinks with us. I had a lovely Americano & my friend had a hot chocolate but not just an ordinary one, he had a minty hot chocolate which came with cream, marshmallows & some mint chocolate sitting on top... needless to say it went down really well. We were too late to get food but are already planning our next trip & will definitely leave earlier so thay we can enjoy some hot food.
I’ve been going here for years and I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff in the cafe are so welcoming and friendly. The staff in the little gift shop beside the cafe are so informative and friendly and always have amazing things in stock. The history of the Hill of Tara is so interesting. I would recommend coming here during the summer so you can avail of the tours of the Hills.
Always our favourite cafe & gift shop to visit! Even if its a rainy day & we cant walk the Hills of Tara, we still pop up for lunch & a snoop in the shop. Great place for buying special presents. Its magical! The food is always so tasty & impeccably made. When I had to ring ahead for my disabled son, the owner personally came on the phone, to ensure he would keep a comfy table for us when we arrived. This is without a doubt, my happy place on a sunny or rainy day. I visit at least once a month without fail. Oh & the pizza oven outside is fabulous & you can sit in these hobbit house-shaped pods (see the pic of my daughter in one!Anyone that should have a chance to visit, will only want to come back again xxxx
Nice shop and seating provided outside. Bought some cool gifts and a coffee.Guys, just watch the hot chocolates drinks. I bought two for my young daughters today and both burnt their mouths. Way, way too hot to drink even after I had finished my coffee. We had an uncomfortable journey home.
Absolutely great place. Located at a beautiful historic site with lovely strolls. The food is always delicious. Every time, someone is asking for their recipes. The staff always come back with an answer, there is always pleasant chats and service that is efficient and effective. We have come back here many times over the years and will continue to do so.
One of my favorite places in this whole region. Favorite spot to get a book or some oracke cards. We stayed in here qondering for probably an hour. Relaxed, beautiful things inside. The cafe is adorable. Great place for coffee when its cold out. So chill!
Nice shop, good quality things there. Cafe have few tables on the street and other few in 2 separate terraces. Basic things you can buy, not too much. Didn’t like that for the toilet you are asked to pay 1 euro.
Maguires of tara has always been my favourite place of solice and peace. I highly recommend the hill of Tara for healing. Everything from the food to the gifts shop is of the highest quality and standards. You will never taste a better pizza anywhere else. Highly recommend.
Good place, but used to be great!!! Their coffee used to be delicious, now its only mediocre!! However, on a good note, they do have fabulous clothing!!The hill itself is magnificent, breathtaking and steeped in history!!
I love this cafe in the heart of county meath. Situated at the hill of Tara, it has a lovely relaxing friendly feel. It also has a great gift shop. Highly recommend a visit.
Beautiful foods, great service and brilliant covid setup
Its open today on St Patricks day, take away only. But great to see someone is keeping the head up with Covid. The Hill is beautiful this morning, we went as we do every March 17th and pay homage to St Patrick. If you visit the Hill please be respectful of our beautiful country.
Wonderful staff always very helpful and friendly. Beautiful views of the countryside. My little cockapoo luves it up there. Great space for dogs to run around. Lovely coffee shop
Strong covid-19 guideline policy in place. Great cafe menu & gift shop products, both catering for all tastes. Excellent staff, friendly service. High quality of food locally sourced & delicious homemade goodies to enjoy in store or takeaway.
Nice cafe, gorgeous scones. Bit pricey though especially for the kids menu, pancakes same price on main(*adultmenu and for the kids menu, and a little mean on the portions only 1 slice of brown bread came with each dish we ordered ( poached egg and an omelette). The omelette included 2 ingredient choices and and additional ingredient was 1 euro extra which included onion which is steep! It just felt high priced for what you got. Lovely area to sit outside good. Good covid measures in place.
We visited the Hill of Tara today and then had a lovely warm drink and a breakfast bagel, absolutely delicious! and the staff were all very friendly!
Surprisingly spacious with a 5k loop walk nearby on the historic Hill of Tara. Great variety of food and friendly staff. Highly recommended. Toilets are functional but disappointing given the standards generally.
Food us marvellous. Coffee is superbStaff fri3anx helpful. Its a real gem.
Can get a bit busy on Sundays and bank holidays, but the food quality really is worth the wait. The soups and bread are gorgeous.
Nice setting with good food. Must try their home made bread.
Bike friendly cafe with plenty of outdoor seating. The Tara special is a great option and superb value: two scones and tea/coffee for €5. Great place, lovely staff, will definitely be back next time Im in the area.
This is a very welcomed sight when, you have done a good winter or summer walk around the hill of Tara. Great refreshment and super views.
Great selection of lunch options and deserts and cakes
Beautiful shop ♥️ Super sweet and friendly staff! I hope that I am able to visit again some time.
You will never have a bad bit of grub here. The staff are always friendly and helpful.Be sure to try the scones!
Busy but quick turnover of tables so not waiting too long. Food was delicious. Piping hot and very tasty!
Really pleasantly surprised after a 2h walking tour in the cold. The place was warm, nicely decorated for Christmas. The mulled wine was very good and so was the steak sandwich. Reasonably priced too.
Lovely place to go.The food is very good, tasty and the people are nice.Indeed sometimes it is a bit crowded but it worth it.They have only craft beer and I consider this a plus because of the taste and quality. Also you can buy a lot of souvenirs from here.Enjoy !!!
Good food and lovely atmosphere in the restaurant! Not the fastest service in the world but its well worth waiting for! Be sure to take a walk around the Hill before or after your meal!
