Kornmarkt, 6004 Luzern, Switzerland, Luzern
Overlooking the Reuss River, this polished hotel in the old town lies 2 km from the Lion Monument war memorial and 3 km from the Swiss Museum of Transport.Eclectic, individually styled rooms and suites have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and minibars. All include tea and coffeemaking facilities. Upgraded quarters have sitting areas, whirlpool tubs, 4-poster beds and/or balconiesBreakfast (surcharge) is served in a neighboring restaurant.
Clean and spacious hotel. Lift accessible, however when you go in, you might been to climb 1 flight of stairs to your room 🧳🛗Our rooms located slightly higher. Believed that each rooms has different theme, ours were a little vintage with dolls (kinda eerie but it’s fine if you’re ok 🥹😅..???Toilets are super clean! House keeping are on time 😊👍🏻
This hotel is the best value in Lucerne. Its simple, small rooms, and no amenities-- but if you are looking to visit such an expensive destination, this hotel is a great way to make it work. The check-in process at their partner hotel a couple hundred yards away was no problem at all.
A horrible experience. If you carry big luggages and don’t wanna carry them up and down the stairs then this hotel is not a good choice. Reception is a few minutes walking away, at the other hotel - Kone (I should have booked this one). Freaky and incomes furniture. Nothing looks like the picture (I got the lotus room), you don’t even have a sofa to sit on. No AC, can’t even open the windows because of spiders. Bathroom is clean.
Old furniture, bed sloped to the middle. No a/c, so we had to open windows that have no screens. Lots of bugs. We killed 2 large spiders and a few other bugs. We did not spend the night. We left the day we checked in as we could not spend the night with spiders. My husband is very allergic. The hotel did not give us a full refund.
BEWARE OF BUGS. Stayed 1 night in the Egypt room. The room was large and was cleaned, but the overall cleanliness of the hotel was not great. The biggest problem was the number of large spiders in our room. They do not have AC (expected), so we opened the windows. When we returned to the room, there were >7 large spiders on the ceiling. We told the hotel and they said they know that the spiders come in when you open the windows. There’s no way to survive 80+F days with the windows closed, so they need to address this problem
We booked at Hotel Krone originally, but our reservation was cancelled with no prior notice and we were offered a room in Hotel Magic and due to a lack of time, we ended up taking it, for a higher price. The room was dirty and tacky in decoration. The distribution is uncomfortable (theres almost no space between bed and walls). Bed is uncomfortable and we could hear all the noise from other rooms and outside. The location is good and the lady at the check out was the only supportive person and gave us a discount, but overall a very unpleasent and draining experience.
My Ratings *Out of 5* :Location : ****Service : ***Cleanliness : ***Breakfast : Not ApplicableService Desk : ***Value for Money : **** (As I paid approx 70 Euro /night without breakfast)Hotel location is good. Remember that there is not service desk / reception in this hotel, you will have to visit their other hotel krone for check-in/ ot which is around 150 meters away from this hotel.*About Room and Location - Every room has different interior in this hotel. The one we stayed in was square facing room. Interior was okay. The problem was with the bells from clock. It was disturbing in night as every hour they ring.** Cleaning - Good** Facilities in Room - Capsule coffee machine with free capsules, Vanity Kit, fridge with Mini bar , locker etc.** Lift - Yes* Staff - Staff was quite helpful. they helped us to understand the surrounding and what are the different things we can do in city. They also provided us city pass which allow you to travel in bus/ train free of cost.
Check-in is done in another hotel, so there is no actual "hotel" feeling to this place. You have to go to the other hotel, do the check-in and then take your bags and walk to the Magic hotel. The hotels entrance is hidden in a super small street, you feel like you enter through the back door. The rooms are more or less clean but in an awful state. The walls are thin as paper, you can hear anything that goes on anywhere in the hotel. The bed is as hard as the floor and the pillows completely empty. Also the blankets are way too small for anyone taller than a child. To top it all the room prices are fairly expensive and almost at par with other more respectable hotels in town.Funnily enough, at check-out the staff will not ask you how your stay was so they wont have to hear your complaints :)
I have never met, something more filthy and uglier than this hotel. Isn’t dirty room, dirty walls, totally untidy bathroom, spiders and all kinds of insects, you cant talk about what the bed and armchairs look like! Disgusted ! Be very careful with your credit card! We had the opportunity to have our cards blocked after check out. I made a complaint and no money, they were returned! We do not recommend, it was one night with many events!
Excellent location, breakfast the very same every day. The cleaning lady does not do a good job.
Do not choose this hotel!Do not choose this hotel!Do not choose this hotel!Due to the COVID-19 policy, it is impossible to enter Switzerland. This hotel is unwilling to refund or postpone the fee. It is disappointing and angry. It is too unethical to charge for accommodation without providing accommodation. This kind of service treats customers The way is really irritating.
It is an ok hotel. Actually it is a branch of a nearby hotel. This has the usual disadvantages: no reception with information in the hotel, no bar or restaurant, no lobby, check-in and check-out are elsewhere... However the main hotel is just around the corner where the service was quick, kind and professional. The rooms are themed and we had the quaint farmer themed room. The bed room was an ok size. The bathroom was also avarage sized. There was no airconditioning, so the room was quite warm. The open window let in the noise from the alley and the restaurant below. The interior was a bit old, but decent and clean. There was an elevator.
Hotel is super well located!!On the border of the river and inside the Altstadt. It is not possible to park here, unless you spot a parking place and wait for hours for a parked car to leave. However the Krone hotel on Weinmarkt place (where you check I anywaycan take car and park it for 27chf a day. Expensive ? Probably but no hassle anymore. We got the Honey Moon suite for the family and this was a great room for us all. The suite is more like an apartment with large space and empty space. There is a kitchen with a dish machine but no cutlery and plates !! Surprisingly !Globally this is a great place for resting except the main room that gives on the river because of the noise of restaurants and nights owlers...Side negative note: there is a bad smell at our door entrance that never went away and the little stairs in the middle of the flat are dangerous for kids because they can hurt and they did hurt herself in slippery stairs ... quite badlyOverall we liked it because it was nice large and very rococo furnitures :)
My wife and I spent a night in this hotel on Saturday 18th of July 2020.I have to admit, I was really disappointed.I live in Geneva, and for the price paid in your hotel (CHF 255), I could have found a much better value for money hotel room in Geneva, even though is quite pricey city. I wanted to book a room, hesitated for a while but eventually decided to book a suite, thinking that the room would look nice and all.Everything was falling apart. The horse for the Jacuzzi was broken, paint was falling from the ceiling, there was hairs on the floor and dust under the bed, there was toilet paper around the fire alarm, and the view supposed to be a city view was actually a view over some roofs - with direct view in our room.I have attached a few pictures so it would hard for you to say that I am exaggerating. So I checked in, got the key, walked around the room and went back to the Krone Hotel. I spoke to the person at the desk, who was no less that the front office manager. I even have his name on paper: Daniel Friedrich. I told him and explained what was wrong with the room, but with all the worse arrogance, the king you would think only you can find in Paris, did not care at all about my saying and dismiss all my complains. Hi answer was the booking is non-refundable and we do not have any other room available. In other words: bug-off.Lucerne and the surrounding are really beautiful, so and the end of the day this is all I will remember. But still: at this time the situation is complicated, and we ask Swiss citizens to spend their summer holiday time in Switzerland, which is the best thing to do for the economy and hospitality business. How can this type of behaviours can attack Swiss customer? I am sure that the staff at the hotel do not care much about Asian tourists, who they will never see again, but may be because they have seen too many of them, they think they can do the same with Swiss nationals? That was a bad experience, and even though I will return to Lucerne sometime soon, I will make sure that I will not book in any of your hotels : Krone, Stella nor Magic.
The hotel had a very eerie and weird atmosphere. The checkin reception was around the corner. You cant drive here. You have to park across the river and walk to the hotel. The room we got had a bathtub in the bedroom and strange looking sculptures staring at you in the room. If you open the only window in the room you see the wall of the building next to you. The entrance is dingy and overall not the best hotel to stay in while in lucern. The alstad hotel which is the main hotel has better views as its on the square. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly.
My airliner cancelled the flight due a pandemic viral, our honeymoon plans are totally ruined and this was the only booked hotel that refused to redeem the cancelation fees. They ignore that health is a sacremented right in Switzerland Constitution (art. 10and that is illegal to force someone to honor his obligation under such a straitened circumstances (art. 119 and 21 of Swiss Code of Obligations).Dont expect human emphaty or compassion, all they care is about your money and ask you to find another way, even if it costs 9k euros, even if you not present in reason of evident force majeure, even if you dont use their bed, they light energy or eat one piece of their breakfast. They will charge you, ignoring exceptional circunstancies and enriching theirselves. Many thanks, Altstadt Hotels.
best part of my trip! got upgraded to a romance suite eventhough it was just myself. open the window you will see a view worth a million dollars. nice friendly and helpful stuffs.
The room was larger than expected, the service was great, and the location can not be beat. Pics are the view from our balcony.
Rooms are okay-ish but no reception in the hotel which makes communication very difficult . Also, the staff we met was incredibly rude. Overall, apart from the location of the hotel, Id give a thumbs down for all other things.
The location is perfect to have a true, old world charm experience. We had an amazing suite overlooking the lake with a balcony. Spacious and comfortable - despite the unseasonable heat this year. A super friendly staff and impeccable service from start to finish.A quick 10 minute walk from the train station, across either this historic bridge or other paths, it was easy to get to the hotel - trick is to check in down the street at the Hotel Krone - where the front desk is.We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to using the Magic as our starting point. Highly recommended for people that want a luxurious experience w/o feeling like they’re in a sterile apartment that has no personality. The French provincial antiques throughout were fun and added to the experience overall.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alstadt Hotel Magic Luzern. The location was amazing. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and it was large and perfect for our family of 4, which includes two young teens. The balcony overlooking the river and bridge were amazing. There is no air conditioning, but even in the heat of early July, we were comfortable because of the large windows and fans in the room. It does get loud with the windows open due to the restaurants below the rooms; however, that is what happens when you stay right in the heart of Old Town! The beds and bathrooms were perfect and comfortable. We would absolutely stay again, especially in the Honeymoon Suite.
This is not really hotel, but the suite in the apartment. It is not that convenient that the reception is not in the same play and need to take the walk around 3-5 minutes. If hot water is needed, u also need to go to the reception. The good points are the special decoration and the coffee machine is good.
The stair well is very noisey and the doors into the room let all the noise in. There is also moise comming in from the street.
Great hotel with immense rooms in a great part of town. Will return. Themed rooms are great for kids.
Location was good... Had trouble with check-in as I had to check-in from other location from the property which I was staying. Walking distance from train station. Good restaurants near by. WiFi was bit slow and was having connection drop points on few places. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cleanliness up to the point. Value for the money 8/10.
Lol this is literally one of the worst hotels weve ever stayed at in Europe. You get two options: close the window and have a sweltering hot room or you open the window and have a lukewarm room with all the noises of the neighborhood (and the noises are loud throughout the night). Wish we had stayed somewhere else :( Luzern is really pretty but this place sucks.
Location is lovely. Staff is good. Breakfast is good. Rooms are also great, spacious, but lack air con, so it sorta gets warm during summer nights in the rooms
Good location large rooms you have to book in at a other hotel who h was hard to find as in as pedestrian area very noisy due to location due to restaurant delivery early hours.
Think twice before you book!! This is a very bad and dirty hotel, actually it should not be called a hotel. We saw a big spider in the bathroom, there is a big spider web inside the room. You need to walk a few hundred meters to another hotel to check in. There is no air-conditioner or kettle, if you want to drink water, you may need to buy some from supermarket. It is near a bell tower, you can clearly hear the bell ringing every 15 minute, it is noisy to sleep, but you cannot close the window as there is not air-conditioner...
Amazing hotel! The best we have stayed in Europe. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the Pirate room. And in the perfect position - restaurants everywhere and the train station and meeting point for most trips are across the bridge 5 mins away. Definitely recommend
The best part of the Magic hotel is the location and the size of the rooms. Rooms are oddly decorated and include mismatched furniture that is not very practical or in great shape. Rooms are very warm but come with a fan. Square is just outside the window so it is noisy. This location has no amenities. Better options exist.
Hotel with a thematic room concept. The bed is lausy, cracking and squeaking sound everytime we move on bed. No airconditioner, only Electric fan. Bathroom is neat and clean. Bath tub included. Hotel location is close to the river and restaurants on the river bank.
theme hotel, good view of the area, nice friendly staff, clean.. bed and pillow are not as good, too soft to my comfort. recommended
All rooms are themed, rooms are spacious not like rooms in Paris where you have no room to spread your arms. Bathrooms are of decent size. Very close to railway station. Chapel bridge is 1 min walking. Close to Indian restaurant. There is no reception, keys for the hotel are to be taken from hotel krone which is 1 min walking again. Rooms are neat and tidy. It also gives pass (passepartoutwhich enables you to take bus and trams free of cost. its included in your stay price.
Weve been upgraded to Honey moon suite free of charge, although we booked a standard double room. The room was very spacious - 2 bedrooms, 3 toilets, a kitchen, a dining room. The room had a balcony with a fabulous view on the Luzern lake and mountains. The hotel is situated in the old town which is close to all restaurants, shops, grocery stores and the Luzern railway station is in a 5-min walk.
Check in at a different building but its a short walk over. We stayed in the Angel room which was nice and spacious. Some parts do feel a bit old but overall it was a great stay. The staff were friendly and the location is good.
Had the honeymoon sweet, was a wierd layout but a bloody fantastic view and bed! Best suite to get!
Spacious room and convenient location. Only con is they do not have a reception and you need to check in at another hotel and pull your luggages to and fro
Luzern is a mesmerizing place. The Altstadt hotel rooms are done beautifully with a theme in each room. Its next to Chapel bridge and walking distance of 2_3 km to shopping area , metro station and Indian restaurant Kanchi..Only thing to note, The breakfast has limited options.
This lovely hotel has a great location right in the middle of historic downtown close to all the sightseeing highlights, shops and restaurants. Staff is very professional and friendly. The room we had was very clean and offered everything we needed plus more. For the price we paid, this hotel deserves a very strong recommendation.
Absolutely love this quirky hotel, will definitely be staying again. We have stayed in two of the themed rooms and thoroughly enjoyed both. The service was fantastic and the breakfast which was part of the deal was really enjoyable!!
We enjoyed our stay at the Altstadt Hotel Magic in Lucerne. The room was a good size and had all of the basics we needed. The team also gave us extra towels when we needed and were generally great. When I made the reservation it said check in began at 2pm, however when we arrived they said it was 3pm and the room was not ready so we had to wait a bit. Not terrible though, we found a great little bar / restaurant nearby. The continental breakfast is very pricey for what you get so I would recommend eating elsewhere. Hotel accomodations were good :)
Hotel was in a great location. We did not care for the first room we were assigned and the staff was very accommodating in finding a room for us that was more suitable.I would recommend this group of Alstadt Hotels to future travelers.
The hotel is located right in the old towns heart. However, there are some problems. The room (Lotus, 4th flooris comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and provisioned with amenities (including a capsule coffee machine). However, check-in was misleading: it takes place in a different location (Hotel Krone), and the indicative map on the entrance door is not clear. Another issue was the noise made by the neighboring church bell. It rings every half an hour, non-stop. If you have a light sleep, you should not book this hotel.
We only stayed at the hotel for one night, but it was a great place. Excellent location, polite staff, and a nice suite. Would definitely stay again.
Very good location. The counter and the restaurant are in another hotel which takes you a 3-minute walk. Not far, but we could hardly find it when we were going to check-in in the very first day. The equipment in the room is old but very clean.
Loved our room, we were facing the famous clock tower. It was also very clean. And I think the floors were heated???, it felt warm. The breakfast was good. We just had a difficult time finding the reception of the hotel to check in, the directions posted on the door was not clear. And had trouble with the door key to get inside the building, it takes several attempts to get in. And only one of the 2 key cards we have is working. But overall,we had a great time staying there.
Great location for the price. All the rooms are themed, we had the Egyptian room on the top floor. Great views and a comfortable setting. Great location next to tons of activities, restaurants, and more. Free breakfast is just a block away in the main Already hotel.
The hotel was located close to train station, within walking distance. The room was very well done and great chocolate shop across the street. Definitely worth a return visit.
Very clean, wonderful room, dog no problem but no Park or grass outside in the city, straight in the city center very noisy during the 6 days of carnival... Even on the top of the building. No Wifi at all for free (not existingin the bed...
