An update for August 2022: lately all salads, sandwiches and soups taste more acidic that is difficult to enjoy. Hopefully this will change.Always a treat to be at Madison Sourdough. The quality is incomparable to any other places in Madison in my opinion. My favorite place for breakfast, lunch and meetings.

Everything about this place is top notch. The miche is extraordinary. Love, love, love this bakery.

Fantastic food! Easy. I couldnt wait to eat my braised pork sandwich so you got the pic with the bites in it. So good!

Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday, was pretty busy. Staff was friendly and food was delivered very promptly. However everything was extremely cold. Biscuits were barely warm, gravy to go with was room temp or lower, ham & cheese croissant we got as well was also barely above room temp. Even the toasted sourdough seemed like had sat out for a while, room temp again instead of warm. Bread was nothing to call home about, everything was about the same mediocre flavors. It was kind of hard to tell since everything was cold.

Absolutely perfect. Just had a slice of the chocolate espresso cake... words cannot describe the perfection that I just had. I should have paid for the whole cake instead of a slice

I want to give this place more stars as the food was great, but unfortunately the staff were rude, and despite the sweet treats we left with a bitter taste.I stopped in with my parents to grab a coffee and some cake. Parking nearby is okay and there is a nice little outside seating area with shade and screened from the road by a tall hedge.Choosing what we wanted werent really sure and I got the impression the staff were in a hurry and while not rude they were very direct. We ordered 3 drinks and two cakes, one of the cakes when it was put on a plate the staff member saw and snatched it right back off the plate without saying anything directly to us, then gave us a new one and when asked why they said the other one wasnt up to their standard. Which was great, I thought wow they really care about their product, it was just communicated in such a weird and abrupt way.We went to sit outside and waited for our drinks. The coffee was nice and the cakes were as good if not better than any others we had in Madison. They were on the high side of price but clearly worth it.The main issue we had started when we got up to leave. We looked around for somewhere to clear our 3 mugs and 2 small plates but could not see anywhere. We couldnt see a sign asking people to clear away tables and as we had table service with the drinks coming too us as well we assumed a staff member must clear and wipe down tables.Just as we started to walk away a staff member barked something at us and then turned around. They werent near us, and werent looking at us when they said it so we didnt really pick up much and when we asked them again they turned around and just said "clear your own table" in a very cold way. They turned away again before we could ask where.So we got their attention again and asked where, and he pointed and mumbled (still couldnt really hear what he saidtowards a small station with cutlery and condiments on. Turns out underneath the top level was a old tatty washing up bowl where customers can leave their stuff. If only there was a sign, or it was more obvious, or staff asked politely when you order or when they dropped off drinks for you to clear your own table. We get it places are busy and dont mind doing it all if its clear and obviously thats what we are asked to do.There was so many opportunities to let customers know or to ask customers to clear away their table, and there was 100 better ways this staff member could has asked. It is probably the worst service we have had in Madison, and means I would be very unlikely to go back here, and if I did I definitely would not dine in. Its a shame because the food really was nice.

We bought a custom birthday cake and it looked incredible. The cake was stunning and tasted even better. When we picked up the cake we couldn’t help buying a loaf of bread and a coffee. Everything was perfect.

Fantastic pastries, breakfast sandwich, quiche. Salad with breakfast is fresh lettuce mix with perfect vinaigrette. Service is very helpful, very pleasant.

Best bread Ive had in my life so far. Beats all of the sourdough Ive had in San Francisco. I think that access to local grain farms gives MSCo an advantage. All the people are wonderful too.

Such good bread. I had the hot Italian beef sandwich and it was straight up amazing. A little pricey but quality to match.

Our group was in town from Minnesota and were looking for local eateries for breakfast. Madison Sourdough blew us away; great staff, quick service, calm inviting vibes, and DIVINE food. Definitely purchase anything from the bakery if you drop by. Highly recommend!

Delicious food. Outstanding service. One of the best breakfast restaurants in Madison. I love the avocado toast and cold brew coffee.

Wow wow wow! I’m visiting and this was recommended. I love good bread and pastries and this was right up there. I got the toast with sheeps milk and cheese, it was one of the most perfect breakfast items I’ve ever had. The bread is awesome, so tender and moist. The cheese and jam combo is next level.

Love the pastries here. Can’t go wrong with any of the croissants! And I love that The folks at Mad Sourdough constantly innovate

Loved this place. We got a couple sourdough sandwiches - mine was the Emma: pickled veggie based, delicious. Very nice crunchy fresh bread. Came with a green salad that was citrusy and super tasty. Terrace is not huge but very cozy and comfortable - overall a cute space to eat. Staff were also very friendly. Would for sure return!

Becky and Sarah are the sweetest!! They were patient, kind, and had the best energy. Also- the bread is delicious.

A few years ago I would have given MSco a 10 out of 10. They had a great atmosphere and wonderful staff, great bakery and USED to have great food. Unfortunately, they have gutted the menu - blaming a lack of staff. If you cannot afford to pay a living wage - you should re-evaluate your business.

We have been in and out of Madison for years but one thing that never changed is the quality of the bakery and cakes from this shop. Some mouthwatering delicacies and almond brittle cake, other cakes are superb. Gotta try their coffee once.

Pulled pork sandwich on Italian was delish. Very busy at lunch. Great shop, top quality bread+ products. Highly recommend.

The best sourdough bread Ive had outside of California. The whole grain sandwich sourdough with seeds is incredible as is their interpretation of Avocado Toast.

Moving to Madison from Chicago posed some anxiety about good food and coffee. Madison Sourdough has exceeded all expectations!!! Quick “Shout Out” to RJ who helped my family of 5 find seating when it was slammed in the restaurant.To all searching Google for a place to eat or get coffee- you need to stop by at least once in your life to get the best therapy for you appetite!

Food, coffee, and bread are great but the level of pretension and unaccommodating nature of some staff is really disappointing. The straw that broke the camel’s back for us was hearing employees very loudly mock a woman that had (respectfullywalked out after learning there weren’t any non-sourdough breads. She was obviously a first time customer, unfamiliar with the process/menu - it was so disheartening and uncomfortable, especially given how busy it was at the time. Not sure we’ll be back.

I used to love coming here, especially for breakfast/brunch but I guess the pandemic has changed things permanently. The menu has changed quite dramatically. You used to be able to get scrambled eggs, they used to have daily specials and amazing rotating soups... All gone. The bread is still good but not sure why the country loaf has to be 2lbs now. Its too much. The pastries and cookies all seem to still be available. The hours have been cut substantially. I wish it could be how it used to be. Very nice of the owner to respond but its just not for me anymore.

This place has an amazing bread selection but most of all, their pastries are delicious and are fresh. Due to Covid, customers can only sit at the back of store. I found the back to be a bit crowded and wish I the front seating was available since it was my first time visiting. Overall, really good spot if you’re looking for high quality bread.

I love Madison Sourdough. A fixture on the east side for many years, this store produces top tier baked goods and stunning cakes alongside expertly brewed coffees and espresso from JBC. The atmosphere is open and inviting like a friend’s kitchen, with tall ceilings and windows that allow you to peer into the bakery where the magic happens.Beyond their products, I’ve always been impressed by the staff here. Even on a busy Sunday at the end of the day, when others might become curt, stellar employees like Sarah welcome you with a warm smile and easy conversation, great recommendations, and top notch service.Thanks for everything! Looking forward to many more good times here.

Very pleasant staff and reasonable prices. I ordered a turkey sandwich, a mocha, and a croissant. After ordering, you have a choice of waiting for your food to go or sitting in the small dining area to eat there. Either way, they bring your food out to you wrapped and contained well. The turkey sandwich was delicious; it had cranberry sauce on it which, to my surprise, was a fantastic addition. A small salad comes with sandwiches. There is free password-protected Wi-Fi, but I didnt use it, so I cant attest to its speed. All around a great little bakery/café. There are cakes you can get slices of that look delicious, a spanikopita galette, and fresh loaves/baguettes you can order.

Great local bakery! I recommend The Drew breakfast sandwich and an almond-chocolate croissant. You can get the bread sliced and it’s easy to freeze and reheat (they will walk you through how to care for your bread if you haven’t done it before), so don’t be intimidated by bringing a loaf or two home. Great tea options for non-coffee drinkers.

The real deal! When I lived in Chicago, there was a French school near me that had a bakery attached, and ever since I moved to Wisconsin Ive been trying to find a place with that level of flavor and texture.Finally found what I was looking for in Madison Sourdough. The croissants are buttery and rich, yet light, crisp and flaky at the same time, and I want an I.V. drip of whatever espresso theyre serving. My apartment is over an hour out of town, but Im looking forward to making this a regular stop when Im in Madison.

I came in just before closing looking for bread. I bought the last baguette, and got a morning bun as well because it looked so good. I feel bad for not noticing that the man serving me gave me two extra pastries! Madison sourdough is always great and with this experience I had to share my thoughts :)

A very comfortable, relaxing and hip place on Willy Street. Tastefully decorated with art, great music playing, and a wonderful outdoor seating area. They have delicious homemade breads and some of the best sandwiches that I have seen and a menu that will keep me coming back to try nearly all they offer. I had the avocado egg toast and it was fantastic, very thick slice of delicious toasted bread, spread with a generous amount of avacodo spread, and topped with a freshly cracked over easy egg….you’re gonna need a fork and knife to eat this!. Everybody keeps telling me about the eggs Benedict which is what I will try next time… I only wish they were open longer in the afternoon.

Excellent pastries and coffee! Today I picked up some cold brew and the sweet Danish of the week (blueberry cream cheese). Both were delicious. The from-frozen (not concentratebottled juice is nice too.

everything i have had from this bakery is amazing! the sandwiches are so thoughtfully made, and the pastries are some of the best ive had! we also ordered a cake here to celebrate my grandmas birthday and it was great. there were so many options for a custom cake and the decoration was beautiful! the frosting (parisian cream optionlooked like it had real vanilla bean in it, which was so above and beyond. my grandma is 92 and said it was the best cake she has ever had. thank you!

I bought a loaf of sourdough during my bicycle ride across the US. It was what I dream of – hard crust (won’t get crushed in my panniers), in a paper bag (won’t sweat), and tastes great even if a little dry (doesn’t crumble or get mealy). I savored it for a week, covering it with peanut butter, tuna fish, avocado, and prosciutto (not all at once). I longed for it for weeks after I finished the final slice.

This place is really busy, which is a good sign. I ordered lavender, funfetti and chocolate caramel cakes for my Rehearsal because you can never have too much cake. They were moist and the right amount of sweet. The real caramel in the chocolate cake was so good. Also the cakes are reasonably priced and Liz was very kind and even sent me a cutting guide.

The items we ordered were all delicious. We loved the frigate sandwich and the curry. The rubbard and almond paste pastry was amazing!

Had an amazing Turkey Club BLT sorta sandwich, believe it was called The Pilgrim. Sooo good! Cranberry sauce, delicious tasting meats, and a sharp cheese all on delicious bread. A great local spot with freshly made artisan breads!

This wonderful place was recommended by family and was well worth the stop. The bread is ancient grain quality and worthy of eating, and I don’t waste bread calories. Breakfast choices are many, pictured here is the eggs Benedict (the hollandaise sauce was perfecton their cheddar and chive biscuit. The apple pie was topped with their homemade cinnamon ice cream. Best apple pie I’ve ever had. Lattes were good-you will not be disappointed!!

We had Madison Sourdough make a small cutting cake for our wedding in June. Liz was so sweet and easy to work with. We had so much fun at the cake tasting and Liz helped us create a unique cake that was so delicious and pretty. I highly recommend using them for a wedding!

We love it here for breakfast or lunch - always fresh and delicious.The yogurt and granola is great, the eggs diablo my favorite, and the sandwiches are tasty.The breads, baked goods, and ice cream are all excellent as well. The service has always been friendly and helpful.Wish we had a place like this near us.

Great cafe that consistently creates and serves bakery, bread, breakfast and lunch dishes. Portions are pretty generous. The daily soups are pretty good too; they are hearty and not the watered down kind. Sourdough breads are fantastic - highly recommend it. The bakery is pretty high quality and beautiful. They cater and make special bakery items as well if you have a special order. Space is pretty nice and simple; free wifi, and often quite busy. Perfect for brunches. During summer, they have a great outdoors space. Street parking as well as a parking lot on the same block makes it easy to visit. As a coffee lover, my only issue is their coffee - not a fan. I drink other beverages, tea, etc. Enjoy!

This has become our go to place for bread. Worth the drive. Breakfast and lunch choices are also excellent. Todays tomato and red pepper soup was oustanding!Added a photo of my Eggs Diablo, because it was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.Jan 2019. Had the sourdough French toast with squash maple puree. Badass! And added some cool pics of the sun in the door (outside temp -4!)

The place is great. It has outdoor chairs and its really big inside. They have a lot of delicious desserts that looks fabulous, and they also have lunch and breakfast. I had a turkey raspberry sandwich and it was delicious.

Great food. Somehow they make a version of biscuits and gravy that seems lighter and fresher than the uber heavy versions in most places. Have also enjoyed the eggs Benedict and farmers omelette

Cool and casual, friendly staff. Veggie burger was great, flavors blended well and a good texture. The sweet potato salad was lovely! A variety of soft tender greens....mmmmm. Brought home a bread, WOW!
