Madame Hien - Vietnamese restaurant in Son Tay, Vietnam
Although the restaurant was very pretty and the waiters quite attentive, the food was very underwhelming, at any price point. They also served a watered down version of Aperol Spritz which I would not recommend here. If you must come for the ambience, I suggest just ordering a beer and spring rolls; even they couldn’t mess that up.
We order the Madame Hien and Hanoi 36 tasting menu. Everything came in small portion which is expected since it’s tasting menu but the overall flavoring was not impressive considering its high price. We had 4 cocktails and everything adds up to 1.7M dong or 75 USD for two people, which is upscale even for New York standard. You would mainly pay for the overall nice ambiance and service but not the food per se unfortunately.
This is my favorite place to bring family in the busy Hanoi. The restaurant is quiet and elegant with the traditional French architecture. The food was excellent, we did not do the full meals but we was very happy with the cocktails and desertsThe hospitality is great considering the customer service around Hanoi is not very customer-centric.Definitely come back next time we are in Hanoi
Good food thats not too expensive, plus very patient and courteous staff. Would recommend. Ambience which is open air dining, is also nice.
This restaurant has been chosen by a chef in Israel who always have a dinner for his guests during the trip in Hanoï. Every year Mr Chef Chalom comes back here to eat, because he founded this restaurant great and special. Food is for him originally good with the typical dishes of old Hanoï.
Really special eating in the courtyard at night. I had simple fish and noodle dish. Beautifully cooked. Staff lovely. 🌌🍜😁
the taste was delicate and clean. It is one of the foods that I remember a lot from my trip.I think I had a meal full of yellow bricks with Hanois sensibility.Good place :)
A very trendy and nice restaurant in the heart of the old quarter. The menu options are excellent and you can eat a selection of different small plates to share as well. We had so many different ones I can hardly remember their names but they were all good! The prices are on the high side for Hanoi, but I think it is worth it.
Prices are on the high side but its worth it due to the nice environment and great service. I would highly recommend this place for first time visitors to Hanoi. You can try the many different Specialties of Hanoi. They may not be the best but most are good.
The restaurant was recommended by a local friend as a fine dining place. However, apart from the nice environment, English speaking waiters and high hygienic standard, I would say the food is quite average. However, by saying that I think its still so much cheaper compared to a Vietnamese restaurant say in London and here at least the food is authentic.Would recommend to first time travellers if you want find a clean restaurant to start your food exploration journey, you cannot go wrong with food served here. :))
Come to Hanoi / HCMC a lot for business trips and have tried quite a lot Vietnamese restaurants and this one is pretty average to be honest. The highlight for this meal is actually a dessert named “Half cooked chocolate cake with black sesame ice cream” , cake is moist and not crazy sweet and I love sesame ice cream ! Great combination !【Service】★ ★ ★ ★ ★【Ambience】★ ★ ★ ★ ★【Food】★ ★ ★
Lovely and cozy environment. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious and authentic dishes.A neat little historical house.
Comfortable dining environment with great service. Cuisines are delicious.
Beautiful place with amazing sitting out ambience. The food quality is great the taste seems to be controlled to attract expat crowds. The pricing is on the high side for Hanoi standards but It’s worth One dinner.
Fantastic venue with a hint of colonial vibe. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but thats where my story ends. The food was not that great, felt like it caters for tourists looking for a trusted place to spend the night. Pricey, a bit bland and probably not worth the visit if you atravel on a budget; bare supper hungry. Good spot for a date night or more mid-range dining
Not highly recommended, because the price with the menu is too high. This kind of Vietnam food is not my appetite!by the way, they accepted credit card.
Very delicious healthy Vietnamese food. I took a menu with a soup, a starter, main menu, and a dessert. Surely the price is quite high, a tourist price. But still I’d recommend this restaurant as a good start point where you can start your culinary journey in Hanoi without failure. English speaking staffs, visa accepted.
It is average. The duck is not fresh so has a strong smell and the prawn is average. Bun Cha Ta meat is hard and lack of taste. I would recommend u to go "Bun Cha Ta" at "21 Nguyen Huu Juan Street" to taste the best Bun Cha.There was a lot of empty tables but without reservation, we had 2 options of near the kitchen or street. After we finished, the restaurants are still rather empty.
Super delicious tasting menus! And the signature cocktail was great.
Taste is not bad. Price is on the higher side. Service could be improved greatly. Staff doesnt smile nor helpful. Food is very slow. Furthermore they can mix up the orders and send the wrong food to the table.
Delicious meal, very good service where they explained us the menu and adviced what to order. We went for mix of starters where you could try a little bit of everything, bun cha and cha ca for mains and mixed dessert platter. Would love to come back and try other dishes.
Really 4.5 stars. Great food. Awesome location. Good staff. And of course the great price you enjoy in Veitnam. Thnx Madame Hien .. was a excellent meal. Well worth adding to your Hanoi food trail. Cyclo by cycle ride dont pay more than 150000 for one hour..
Good environment, good setting of the food, but terrible taste. The worst food I ate in Hanoi. Why the chef can cook so bad taste food in this beautiful place? Unbelievable ! I prefer to the street food.
very interesting restaurant with reasonable price. The pho and the afternoon tea are must try ones
Madame Hien comes highly recommended by locals and tourists alike! And with good reason! The fact that the place is always packed and it is really difficult to get a table unless you make a reservation, really says a lot about Madame Hien!Ambiance of the interiors gives you that classic French feel with Vietnamese hues. The menu thrives with local specialities that come in small servings; but prepared with excellent quality. Once the food arrived at our table, we just devoured everything to bits. The food was that good. Try everything from the duck to the squid to the pork and others, you can’t go wrong with your selections.Service crew was very attentive throughout the meal period. And were very much friendly.
Great cosy ambiance and tasty Vietnamese food presented beautifully. Enjoyed every dish here, especially the mango roll, refreshing and delicious.
Ambience and Service certainly five starsWe were in Hanoi for a weekend with a group of friends over a weekend and we settled upon this well known restaurant for lunch.Set in what is a beautiful old colonial style house, beautifully decorated and evoking a past it most probably has, the dining room has bags of charm, character and importantly for today’s vogue for online reportage has plenty of angles for interesting photo snaps. The menu is a mix of Vietnamese and what I’m guessing a fusion mix. The quality of ingredients is good but the execution is a bit mixed- the Vietnamese food to our untrained palates was very well executed and well received the Pho (of course was one of the items ordered off the menucame in a well seasoned clear broth, the spring rolls both fried and fresh were reordered twice which speaks for itself, but the more western style dishes, possibly as they’re more familiar to us and hence get a more critical assessment were a bit less well executed for instance the duck was a bit overdone and the stewed pork wasn’t as tender as it could have been. What certainly was five star at the restaurant was the service. The staff didn’t bat an eye at a group of 6 grown ups and 7 children of an age turning up unannounced for lunch. They expertly guided us through the menu and after that weaved their way in and out of the toddlers circling the table as our food arrived. The total bill seemed reasonable and not overpriced but definitely not local rates that you’d pay in a real locals restaurant.Would recommend if you were nearby to pay a visit here and if you weren’t in the mood for dining at least take in a cup of their delicious coffee and watch the world move slowly by.
Ambience was lovely but the food was just average. Only tourists dine there. Much better local food outside if youre looking for authentic fare.
Excellent dinner in a great restaurant with local and historic decoration. Very professional and friendly staff
The services was ok. The food was quite poor (we ordered specialitiesconsidering the expectations you have when you go to such well-known restaurant. We were awkwardly wandering around restaurant for 5 minutes and there was no one around to ask for table. We did not get any tissues untill we asked for the bill at the end. While preparing the food on the table one waiter took my chopsticks and I had to ask for another pair. The food is nothing special and I would dare to say there are plenty of better options around in Hanoi especially considering that prices are a quite touristy.
The best Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi. The food was delicious. My girlfriend and I loved it. This restaurant is an absolute must in Hanoi. Booking a table in advance might be a good idea.
I ate here twice already on two separate trips to Hanoi. Excellent Vietnamese cuisines.
Phenomenal lunch deal; pho foie gras with lemongrass and bun cha are must-haves but the salads turned out to be quite pedestrian! Good and friendly service.
We didnt really like the food even this place was recommended by our hotel as really good. Looks cute, cozy and separated from the main road. But...the food wasnt great at all, we didnt even eat half...and yes a bit overpriced...but visitors were only Europeans so for them its fine i guess.
Great testing course dining experience there last night.Mostly it’s for foreigners.I went there by myself and ordered a testing course. It’s a bit pricey but good to try fancy Vietnamese cuisine:)
This is my find of the year for food and relaxation. Lovely garden to sit in at this former Spanish embassy. Food is great and beautifully presented and so well served. People as usual make the extra smile for you. Lovely staff. Lovely place.
very delicious restaurant hide inside Hanoi street, all the set menu taste so good even for vegetarian menu. better do the reservation before go there. will take about 1.5-2.0 hours there for dinner.
A bit too upscale if you’re looking just for a casual place to have Vietnamese food. The decor is beautiful though and the food is really good. The staff is very attentive and friendly.
Friendly staff with a very good English, very clean, cozy and relaxing atmosphere, the plating of the food is great and very traditional.Highly recommend the smoothies. Definitely one of the best options for a good Vietnamese experience.
Ambiance is so romantic with the soft glow of the lanterns and candles. Service was impeccable with staff speaking good English. Good selection of wines. Food is extraordinary from presentation to taste. Now I’m a fan of Vietnamese food. Deserts are to die for. I had a very enjoyable evening with my family.
Nice place, I feel the restaurant hope to be fine dinning, but it still away from.
Over rated is an understatement. Rice served was burnt and over cooked. Dishes were served lukewarm. The chef recommended foie gras pho pales greatly in comparison to the flavourful pho ga served along the streets (and costs less than a quarter of Madame Hiens). Madame Hien certainly did not do justice to the smorgasbord of culinary wonders Hanoi has to offer.
Exsquisite dining in a top quality restaurant with multilingual staff providing an excellent service, informing patrons on both the dishes available and those you order. Signature cocktails and dishes, many of which are upscale versions of street food and traditional French-Vietnamese cuisine, all served in delightful building with outdoor seating. Good value dining off the set menu, otherwise a little pricier but well worth it. Best dining experience in Vietnam by far.
So came here for dinner. I had duck three waus which was delicious and my wife had bun cha. For desert we had the tasting plate and the chocolate lava cake. All of which was delicious. To top it off staffs english was amazing and to be highly commended. Definitely recommend coming here as you wont be disappointed.
Very elegant ambient. Fusion Vietnamese and France food. Better phone and take a reservation for the dinner...
Nice Vietnamese restaurant with a great variety of local traditional dishes and a touch of French cuisine, definitely a must-try place. The French architected mansion has a cute little garden where you can sit out. Try the "banh cuon" and dimsum here.
Vietnamese cuisine. 👍 food. reasonable price. Staff are kind & good service. Nice ambiance too.
Do it. It totally pays off. We didnt get a table at other places (Saturday nightso we ask for a recommendation and thats how we discovered Madame hien. Great and delicious food for more money than usual in the area in Hanoi but its really worth it. We had a 4 courses menu and I would rate every course with 5stars. Nice staff and a stunning atmosphere at night when you get table outside. Thumbs up!
Tasty Vietnamese food in nice outside garden restaurant. Good service until we asked for the bill which took far far too long (we had to ask a few times for it too). Hoping that was a one off.
(Visited second brunch but opted for ala carte as we wanted to try the pho with foie gras only to be told after our appetisers arrived that it was unavailable)Nice atmosphere with average food.Mains (duck 3 ways and prawn with caramelwere mediocre.I would suggest to skip desserts. Banana around the world although a good concept came with horribly icy ice cream. You can get better che at half the price elsewhere.Only saving graces were the pomelo salad and bun cha.Although there were clearly fluent English speaking staff, the person waiting on us could barely understand us.Maybe youll have better luck with the main brunch.
