Mad Chef & Chillar - Cafe in Oshakati, Namibia
Im so glad I came here. Very beautiful on the inside and the food was so very good! Ive never had more delicious swiss chard, along with lamb chops and lobster tail. My partner got the salmon, he enjoyed it. We also got the crab and artichoke dip served with soft pretzel sticks. We had a great and attentive server. We cant wait to come back and try more of the menu.
My husband and I had oysters and cocktails at Grill 620 (one of our favorite restaurantsbefore going over to The Mad Chef. This was our first time trying the sister restaurant of the Grill 620.At the Mad Chef, we both ordered the Ribeye Steak dinner and pre-dinner cocktails while we waited. I believe I was given a dry red wine, rather than the Pinot Noir I ordered. But okay...I listened to a waitress at a nearby table telling a group that the "Chef" is really stubborn and would not allow substitutions for side dishes. We didnt need substitutions, but good to know, since I do have food intolerances. Thats a deal breaker for me. And it is silly. Our food arrived. My husband immediately said something about how different my steak looked compared to his. Smaller, thinner. But okay...I started trying to eat the meat and quickly found it to be terribly chewy and overly fatty (even for ribeye!). I kept trying to eat, but I then I gave up and began to pull away the chewy fat to find the "eye". I ended up with a piece of steak 2" x 2" x 1/3". It was comparable to a half of a thin-sliced pork chop. Wow. Okay....Before I could even try a bite of the little bit of meat I found, the waitress returned and took my plate back to get the kitchen to redo my order. All of this could be overlooked, until the "manager" intervened a few minutes later. "What is your problem?" is not the way to approach a customer. I answer back "Nothing. Take my food off the bill". He laughed, sneered and called me rude. I got up and walked across the street to Grill 620. I got a burger to take home, but I was fuming. As soon as I walked into Grill 620 (where they know us), one of the waitress came over to ask what happened. Why did I return to 620? Why am I ordering carryout? They are so kind there. My husband, meanwhile, finished his steak and joined me at 620. His dinner was okay, but he did not like the manager. And he wanted to finish and leave the waitress a tip.Of course my 620 burger was delish, but the manager at Mad Chef has spoiled my enjoyment of Grill 620 and the River Hill Bar...all owned by the same folks.Do better.
This place is such a gem! From the service to the ambiance to the food to the cocktails - everything was amazing! Universal A+. My sister and I each had a drink which was delicious. I got the Israeli couscous which was so tasty and my sister got the sweet potato gnocchi - it was rich and delicious. For dessert, we split the pumpkin cheesecake, which was served in an actual mini pumpkin! And the zeppoles, served with Nutella sauce with a hint of orange. This is my new favorite place. We will definitely be back soon!
I went tonight for the first time. Service was great, food was delicious amd portion size was plentiful. We ordered the drunken mussels (amazinggreat flavor and enough to share. We also had the calamari which also was tasty and enough to share. For main course we both tried Inked squid seafood pasta. Very-very good!!I gave 4 stars only due to limited menu. I would habe like to have more variety.
Delicious brunch. I had the French Toast which I was warned was very sweet, but not too sweet for me! I didnt need to add any syrup, though - the French toast was coated in Capn Crunch making it crisp and delightful. I ordered a side of bacon to add some salty to my sweet and it was quite a lot of bacon! The bloody Mary was just OK. I will be returning!
Pros:Friendly and informative staff- will explain all dishes and recommendation their favoritesDELICIOUS brunch - highly recommend the crab loaded tots 10/10Clean and pleasing aestheticEasy parking
Really great/creative food and a wonderful environment. This place is rapidly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. They do such a good job of creating an interesting menu. And so far everything weve had has been delicious. Theres just a lot of attention to detail even on small side dishes.
Ive visited Mad Chef twice now and have gotten great food and great service both times! For the appetizer, we love the Crab & Artichoke Dip! It is warm, cheesy, and the pretzel bread is a great pairing. For entrees, my husband and I LOVE the Cauliflower Risotto. It is creamy and has great flavor. Our servers are always nice and very attentive. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of drink options that we will have to try next time. Definitely recommend visiting if youre in the area!
We found this place on a whim after having a bad experience at a festival and it was just what we needed to end the day on a high note.We picked this place specifically for the outside seating and was not disappointed. The waitress was super kind, the food was good and the drinks were great. It was not too busy so we werent shouting at each other. They had dietary options clearly on the menu which was a bonus.
An unexpected gem. Not only was the food amazing (we had the mussels which are the best that I’ve hadour server Alisha was amazing. She was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. Highly recommend all the drinks, dessert, and the mussels. If you’re questioning whether or not to go, go and ask for Alisha! 10/10
I was going to write a review last night giving this place a decent rating but I spent the time with, for the first time ever, food poisoning - hence the single star.Pros: employees are very kind and attentive and the squid ink linguini was on point!Cons: food poisoning (obviouslyand the paella (culprit of the former). The paella was severely lacking in seasoning, though it did smell and taste burnt. There wasnt much rice and what little there was was liquidy - no nice crispy edges like youd expect from a good paella. We overpaid, significantly for what we received.
This was my 1st time going there and I loved the food and the service!!
First time here and wont be our last. Met up with a friend for dinner and we started off with drinks. They were not overly sweet and strong enough. I forgot the names but they were great. Then unto the food. My friend ordered the ribeye steak and I had the Pallea. Let me say this: this was the first time we cleared out plates! It was the perfect portion and the flavors were amazing! The price was a bit high but worth it. Customer service was on point as well. Highly recommend! Cant wait to come back for their brunch 😊.
My 3 year-old grandson and I had lunch at the Mad Chef in Ellicott City and it was a wonderful. My waiter, Ethan, provided excellent service and Mario, who I believe was the manager, was terrific! The food was incredible and both my grandson and I had an excellent time. I would highly recommend.
The atmosphere was clean and luxurious. It was windy and a little cold today And the staffs kind explanation of the menu and the smiling face made me feel good. (But it was too long explanation. The food was delicious. I like the atmosphere clean. I want to go again and taste all the other dishes.
I went for brunch with a friend. I had the 20 dollar bottomless mimosas and my glass did not get empty. There are other brunch options that have bottomless mimosas that are cheaper, however, I will pay the extra because the food was so delicious. I had the avocado toast and a side of cheesy grits. It was amazing! My friend had the MC French Toast, the cereal of the week was captain crunch, so it was french toast crusted in captain crunch crumbs. My friend said it was the best french toast she had ever had. So definitely check this place out!
The best restaurant in the area for foodies. Gastro pub exciting. Seared Salmon on grilled asparagus with mango salsa and balsamic reduction
Outside or dine in options available. Ambiance is Beautiful inside. Menu could have more open options for vegetarians…but the small selections are delicious! JALEN our “Mad Chef host” was fabulous with the meal suggestions and the drinks!!!! Try his dragon berry Mojito!!l DELICIOUS!!! Calamari was light, perfectly seasoned and the crab/artichoke dip…ahhhh. Wait time and the food was incredible! Great first time experience!
We found Mad Chef on a Google search and felt adventurous. Well, I’m glad we did. We went on a nice sunny Wednesday and the outside dining was pretty full. So, we sat inside and had a nice area to ourselves. The service was very good and attentive. The food was very good. We had the 1/2 chicken and the flavor was outstanding. The guacamole and chips were excellent. Our Sangria(picturedwas really good, along with dessert ( picturedFlourless Chocolate cake. I also love the decor and wall art. We will definitely go back. 😊
Outstanding. My family and I went to this restaurant after a work event over the weekend, and we wanted fare that was tasty, creative, and comforting. This delivered on all levels. We went for Saturday brunch/lunch and everyone (we had a party of 7 - all with varying tasteshad something to choose from - whether it was the street corn, french toast, risotto or a sandwich. Everything was excellent, and the service was impeccable. At one point, one member of our party wasnt happy with how something was cooked, and the manager came and offered another recommendation, brought the dish out immediately and made sure we all had what we needed. It was a great experience and was exactly what we wanted after our event. Excellent food (the cocktails are terrific tooand impeccable service. I highly recommend.
Went on a weekday for lunch. It wasnt busy soon after opening at 11am. We were seated right away. I enjoyed the atmosphere and cleanliness. Employees were not wearing masks but most customers had them when they entered. The liquor selection had a bit of everything. Two stall bathrooms. Free parking in the shopping center. Grocery store, liquor store and other restaurants near by.
Went for lunch. Wasnt crowded. The decor and ambiance was pleasing and the staff very nice. The food was prepared with attention to details and very flavorful!
Services: she is very patient with someone that has know idea what to order. Never been here. The mimosas are ready good. The tacos were awesome. Light and delicious.
Amazing experience! Ethan was honestly the best server weve ever had! Ethan took the time out to really give us amazing recommendations and knew the menu through and through! He truly made the experience top notch. The women who filled our waters was also so kind and attentive! A man whom we believe is the owner or manager came up and struck a nice little Convo with us and was so personable. The food was perfect and everything suggested to us was fantastic. Try the flautas and the bread pudding! So good! 10/10 will definitely be returning!
Everything was delicious. Our waiter, Ethan, was a tad bit too hands on for me. If Im looking at the drink menu and youve made your recommendations, step away. It felt like we were obligated to order a drink. We were going to but having him hover over the table the way he did felt intrusive. He was nice but just a little too much. My husband and I ordered two cocktails which he said the bartender did a taste test of. He saw him place a straw in the glass pull it out and taste it. Id do that if Im tasting someones drink at my table but never if I were serving drinks so that was a bit of a turn off. The drink by the way was tasty but a bit too minty. The one my husband had was very tasty. Wed go back but i dont want the bartender to taste my drink befire he/she served it. Thats the only reason i cant do five stars.
This place is beautiful, the ambiance is gracious, and the design inside is inviting. But if youre in a rush, this place isnt yours. The wait for us took like 45 minutes. The food taste good. Thier omelet, the egg taste dry. The home fries, that cut squared, taste a bit salty.
Great seafood options! As some other reviewers stated portions were a bit all over the place (these two were entrees and the appetizer we ordered was of similar size). Nonetheless it was delicious.
So I tried to take a GOOD photo of my food, but it was so good that it didnt happen. The steak needed nothing extra to flavor it, but wow! Honestly the surprising factor was the mashed potatoes. These are often dont really well or really bad, theres never an in between, but today there was success and they were creamy and flavorful. Again, perfect seasoning was a thing. Highly recommended dropping by this place.
What a great dining experience. Rockfish was one of the specials and we tried some of their regular specials. From the flavors to the service, everything was on point. I can’t wait to return
Great ambience and the food is simply delicious. Everything tasted super fresh. Highly recommend!
If I could give 6 stars I would. Wow!, this place was absolutely amazing. From the delicious meals to the excellent service from our waiter Ethan, my husband and I were really impressed and already talking about visiting again. My only regret is not coming here sooner. Everything was fresh and served perfectly. I cant say enough good things about Ethan. He was attentive, knowledgeable and not too overbearing. He really made of first visit so enjoyable. If you havent been here yet, no sure what youre waiting for. Go....right now!!😊
My fiancé and I finally had dinner here after knowing about Mad Chef for quite sometime and they did not disappoint! We started with some shrimp tacos and a blackberry mixed cocktail that was only featured for valentines day. I got the squid ink seafood linguine and my fiancé got el jefe. My shrimp was a bit overcooked but the linguine and sauce tasted delicious! My fiancés burger and fries were cooked to perfection. We also had the flourless chocolate cake and it was moist and rich! The serves was also outstanding, Cody was very friendly and always checking in on us. We are definitely coming back for brunch sometime and maybe for a different dessert.
The food was delicious. The service is excellent. I love the dessert alcohol drink... The portions are random on the appetizer list because some of the apps like the empanadas are really small and bland with no taste. But then the appetizer for the mussels was huge and very tasty. Also, I love the shrimp tacos.
We went here for a birthday/girls dinner and had a great experience. Our waiter was phenomenal, knew the dishes in and out, and was very passionate about them all. We had the queso appetizer and it was perfect blend of savory with a touch of spice. For the entrées we had scallops, ribs, and the seared tuna. Everyone was delighted with their meal! The flourless chocolate cake with blueberry and raspberry syrup syrup with vanilla ice cream was a big hit too!
Lets start with our recommendation: visit MAD CHEF pronto! We will be back. And visit them anytime we are near! Must try their fish brunch we heard much about. This time four of us enjoyed dinner here.First, about the staff:- ask for Ted as your waiter, and- meet Mario, theamager we met. They were immensely helpful. You can trust their recommendations and their knowledge about the menu offerings. In a little hurry now, past our zzz time, so will post photos we took and label them later.Second, if like us, you like outdoor seating, here you will find a terrace with giant radiant heaters - the kind used in outdoor terraces in Vermont ski places! Finally for today, please tell us how their flowerless chocolate cake is because we were filled up. 😅🖖
Excellent food in a rustic atmosphere! Wood tables, exposed brick, arched doorways and candles on the table. The food is always great! I tried the empanadas tonight and they were perfectly crispy on the outside with a light drizzle of sauce. This is a good spot for date night!
May 2021Wonderful empanadas and mussels. Great beer and drink selection, we really enjoyed the sangria. The shrimp tacos were amazing, probably some of the best ever for me. The salmon was so fresh and delicious and the beet salad was very refreshing. Fresh and delightful but a little skimpy on salad contents, it was mostly beets. Excellent service, and I will definitely be back.
We had a good time overall staff was nice.food was good not for pricebut was fair I guess ...drinks were okay we spent almost $160.00 for two..flavor and style was good...would of gave 5stars but the crab wasnt lump like it said it was mixed and my calamari may have been cuddlefish was all bodies no tenticles which always makes me weary of authenticity but fried perfectly mussels was good..and the squid pasta was delicious Lobster was okay kinda small.. the rosemary fingerling potatoes were ruined by being twice fried...that was the only item we didnt finish...its just my chef DNA makes me critical when it comes to dinning out I expect what I would deliver the whole package especially at certain price points...#businessowner to the next...overall it was a cool outing expierene we got full and tipsy ,nice concept not as MAD as we expected but good food and method of cooking..just leave the fingerling alone ...
Wonderful dinner. Empanadas were really good. Squid ink pasta and fish and chips were all on point. Fish and chips were fat chunks of fish with crusty, tasty breading. The lobster, scallops, and shrimp were all cooked wonderfully for the pasta. We will be back for the paella
Service was an absolute 5. I had the wedge salad and water, my husband had blackened catfish sandwich and he said it was really good. The menu was kind of small, looking at pictures I was expecting more. Only got a 4 because when we walked in the bartender didnt say us and was joking with clients/possible friends about something super inappropriate.
I was SO BUSY enjoying the food that I forgot to photograph... We started with the tuna taquitos, which are a sushi-fied version of tacos like you love them on the streets of Mexico City. Omg - I really wanted two orders! But Im glad I saved space for the paella, best in the US!! lobster, razor clams, fish, mussels, and much, much more. Really worth it!
Our server Jay made this experience! Amazing rundown of the entire menu. Every food recommendation wad on point. The cherry on top of it all was his great energy made the family meet up an absolute joy - mom and baby sister met my wife and I halfway (NC and NYfor the weekend. Great value and a nice vibe for this place. Well be back for sure!!!
Went during an off time (around 2pm on a Saturdayand had a terrific lunch. Hubby ordered and truly enjoyed their Fish and Chips. The crust on the fish was crisp and flaky while the potatoes were crispy and flavorful. I ordered their Grilled Half Chicken which was topped with a Shallot Chimichurri (of which I asked for extra!then served on a bed of Broccolini and Bacon Braised Collard Greens--lordy, that was an amazing meal! The chicken was cooked perfectly-- super moist and full of flavor. For dessert, we paired their delicious Banana Cheesecake with their fresh, French Press coffee. We cant wait to come back and try their other dishes, especially their tasty looking list of apps.
Dan and Danny were amazing!! We stopped here for lunch on our way to Shepherdstown, WV. It was convenient to I-70 and was an easy off and on.We shared the shrimp tacos, empanadas, and beef sliders. All three were good, but the tacos took the crown. Danny let us know that they were all pretty small, so we should get three if we were sharing. He was totally right. If we would have gotten two we would have still been hungry.I had the Purple Monkey Dishwasher by Evil Genius. It was amazing!! They even have 3 wines on draft including Matua one of my wifes favorite wines. This place has a wonderful ambiance, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a great selection of food and drink. You will not be disappointed!
Decided to come out on short notice but was able to get seating of our choice (likely due to covid). The outdoor seat is well appointed and comfortable. The service is very good. Our server was very kind and sweet to our 15 month old.The food looked very delicious but the taste didnt hit the mark. It was bland and not very appetizing at all. Wifes cocktail looked pretty but was meh as well.Well consider coming back in the future but not anytime soon (this was our first time eating out since the covid shut down occurred, needless to say we were left pretty disappointed)
Service was amazing and the food was so amazing. We tried an appetizer- chorizo queso and chips. The cheese was a mixture of many different cheeses melted together with chorizo on top.I had the weekend special- rock fish with a tomato cucumber salad. It was delicious. My fiance had the steak sandwich with fries. The steak was so tender and flavorful, you could tell it came from a beautifully cut of meat. The fries were amazing, apparently they use some type of malt salt. Everything was great. I can not wait to go back. The decor was very nice also.
The staff here were so kind and attentive. The menu had a good variety of food that we all wanted to try, but could only try so much at once. I loved the beef sliders! The bacon jelly was so good, and complimented the burger so nicely! The shrimp and grits were the only thing that we didn’t like as much, I think the cheese was not to our preference.Overall this was a great experience!
We had a wonderful outdoor dinner here! The patio space was nice and comfortable, our server was helpful and attentive, and most important of all, the food was absolutely delicious! I was impressed with the number of options and creative dishes that set this place apart from anywhere else. This is my new favorite restaurant in Howard County!
Honestly Ive been here once in the past and it was amazing. I know its difficult getting back in the groove since covid. But our waitress was a mess. She was too busy socializing rather than making sure everything/everyone was taken care of. She was extremely behind and forgetful and it was not even busy. When youre ahead thats when you can socialize, not when you have tables waiting on you. The food is always good but this time the service was whack.Fifty fifty burger, crab dip, kids mac n cheese, mad chef salad.
My first experience was on restaurant week and being able to try something new was worth the visit. The Manko Shark meal was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Appetizers were plated very aesthetically and drink menu gives you plenty of variety in cocktails, wine and beer. The shopping center it’s located in has other food options so if it is packed you can walk around and check out some other places. Wasn’t a fan of the strawberry shortcake dessert, but then again, I’m not a dessert lover. I would rather eat an extra fillet of Shark to fill up. Bar area is open atmosphere is very relaxing with easy on the eyes decor.
