Iconic hilltop ruins of a large 15th-century Inca city featuring numerous structures & terraces.
Machu Picchu in Ayacucho
Description
Privilege
Theres a reason this is a wonder of the world. Be prepared to wait around for trains, buses, and entry though. It does get incredibly busy but the surrounding mountains and the wonder itself are well worth it in my opinion.
MoreThis place is amazing! We booked through Cusco Local friends and our guide was awesome. They have different circuits your wise 1 and 2 are the best ones for photos.
MoreA truly breathtaking place to visit. Most people have seen photos of this place, but to actually go there and experience it is fantastic. You will not be disappointed.
MoreIt is really one of the 7 wonders, a great, magic and unique place! Please remember to take with you mosquito repellent and, if you find early morning fog, wait for the sun.
MoreVisited September 09,2022 and it was absolutely beautiful here. The view at sunrise was unforgettable. Get here early if you want to beat the crowds.
MoreDidnt realize the size and precision of the megalithic architecture here, with more normal architecture built on top. Sun screen and mosquito spray would have been a good idea. The combo ticket to climb one of the mountains in the back and look down was very cool. The spring water coming through the blocks into pools is really amazing. How did they build all of this?
MoreThe park administration has changed the system for turist to visit. Before purchasing a ticket to the park do a research before you go. With the new system, there are 4 circuits and some of those circuits will not allow you to visit the location to take the iconic picture. I would recommend to go with a guide. The guide usually charge $10 per person. It is totally worthy. The bus system has changed too. You need to purchase the bus ticket either online or in person. It is recommended to get tickets at least the day before. There is only one bus company that goes to the park and its called Consettur.
MoreWith an excellent guide, the history and purpose of this place comes alive. Amazing that it took thousands from all over the Inca Empire to build, less than a thousand people occupied it. It lasted as an active city less than a hundred years. The surrounding mountains, agriculture experiments, worship of Water and 3 animals unique. So many beautiful perspectives - every picture is unique.
MoreIf this isnt on your bucket list, it should be. Pictures dont do it justice, the experience is beyond words. The weather changes every day so it appears different every day.Get a guide to lead you and explain, it is worth it.
MoreNice train ride from Ollantaytambo about 2.30hours and another 20 min to the ruins on bus. Once there inmerce yourself in the experience and majestic views of nature, ruins and history, get a guide to understand better the ruins and the purpose of this wonder of the world.
MoreA magical place worth every moment, start with the early morning trip up the mountain (circuit 3+Montanaif your feeling fit followed by the guided tour of circuit 2 in the afternoon expect to pay 10-20$ for a guide in a group 50-70$ for a private guide.
MoreThis is hands down a must see in the world! Go while you still can and enjoy the serene beauty! If you can hike the Inca trail, that’s even better!!!
MoreAbsolutely delighted by this place. Totally blown my expectations!I did a 2-day Inca Trail hike with Crossover Peru with a chill group and an epic tour guide. We got a viewpoint that was only for the hikers and the site itself wasnt crowded at all.Would recommend visiting this place for any outdoor lover as the hike to this place is amazing, it embraces you in the journey Inca people did to get to this city.
MoreI mean this is one of the seven wonders of the world and pretty much speaks for itself, the view is more amazing than pretty much anywhere else on earth! Id highly recommend getting tickets in advance to avoid the lines as well as wearing light clothing that covers your arms and legs to protect from both the sun and insects. Dont forget a wide brimmed hat, but you can get one on the way!
MoreClassic! What more can you say? There are already millions of pictures so mine wont add anything. Worth doing once...I have ALWAYS wanted to do it!! Bucket list! But like so many others on those lists, no need to do it again.I was not disappointed by the views and had read extensively about the history so it came alive. BUT, the increasing restrictions on where you can go and when are SO frustrating! I falsely assumed once inside you could go wherever you wanted! NO WAY!! Not only is there a rigid schedule for when you can enter... The guard would not let me in even 5 minutes early. But your ticket must stipulate which of the 4 "circuits" you are allowed to take. And some tickets allow any of the 4 and others only the lesser #3 or #4. You cant go backwards once on a circuit. You cannot climb either mountains without additional tickets that are booked months out! Even circuit 1 and 2 do not let you visit the Guard House. On top of all this, the Condor Temple is only open AFTER 10 and the Intihuatana is only open BEFORE 10!BUT, even all this is not the biggest issue. Thats the crowds. The buses run non stop from 6 until close and the crowds are everywhere! Its a pedestrian traffic jam on some of the stairs and walkways.I get it! Its one of the 7 wonders of the world!! But when it takes 3 minutes to get the photo you want as you wait for the hordes to clear, or you are stuck behind a large tour group paused on a narrow walk, it becomes just plain sad! The same has happened in many tourist attractions all over the world so maybe this is to be expected? But somehow, here, at the "end of the world," it feels especially tragic. I wont go back.
MoreProbably the most stunning experience Ive ever had in my life. Absolutely beautiful views, the only thing that I wish I knew beforehand was that when you buy tickets for your circuit, youre only allowed to go through it once and you cant go back so when you do go you need to take your time and enjoy the views I would have gone much slower knowing that I wouldnt have been able to go back but still an amazing experience.
MoreOne of the most valuable things I have seen on my travels :The architecture is amazing and the history very interesting. Unfortunately, due to the different circuits, you can only visit a certain part of the area. But we could at least go up to the viewpoint.
MoreOne of the wonders of the world. An absolutely magical place despite all the tourists. However, they are limited per day and when you reach the ruins themselves it doesnt feel too crowded. Its a must to see in South America.
MoreNot gonna lie! The hike to get here was very hard and if you are a couch potatoes you probably should not do the hike. The site itself was stunning and our guide gave a very in depth story of each of the buildings and the purposes and use of the buildings and how the Incans worked the site. Pictures cannot do this place justice.
MoreNot much to say/explain about it - it is what everybody says! I would just point out that make plans and reservations (train, bus, ticket entrance, etc..in advance, so you dont waste time or get frustrated. And yes, totally worth the effort to visit!...
MoreBucket list item that Im glad I got a chance to experience. Try to come in the morning if you can. Make sure you get a good guide that speaks your language. It completely changes the experience without a knowledgeable guide. Also buy your tickets as far in advance as possible. They sell out quick.
MoreBucket list trip and definitely worth the wait. Incredible place. Our guide was very informative and passionate about the history. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit
MorePictures do not do this place justice. You have to experience it.There process to get to and enter was took some energy away. After the train ride. Two sign in lines and a bus ride.
MoreViews are outstanding.Note that you have to order tickets about a week and a half up to 2 weeks prior to your visit.Although there are lines on the entrance, inside the site it doesnt feel crowded at all.Taking a guided tour is highly recommended as they explain a lot about the site and the history of the Inka.
MoreI was left speechless when I saw the Iconic view of these Inca Ruins with my own eyes. Pictures and videos cant portray the true thrill of this place. If this is on your bucket list, its worth the journey.
MoreUtterly breathtaking. I have no words. Absolutely magnificent. Gem in the rain forest. Must go place. Strongly recommend getting a tour guide.
MoreExceptional beauty, a piece of heaven on earth. Challenging travel arrangements getting there, but worth it. Even the hike to the highest point was hard, but wow, breathtaking view of history.
MoreWords can’t help to describe how beautiful this place is, it’s just so beautiful you can feel the energy right away, it’s something you have to watch with your own eyes, the only bad part is that they still ask for face mask which doesn’t make sense since it’s an outdoor space but meh
MoreCool attraction! The hike to go up is fun! Not too hard so everybody can do it! Otherwise theres some bus that can take you on top. The mountains and the views are amazing! People are kind around this area. The small city aguas caliente is super aswell. You can book 2 days for the hike and visit around loved it
MoreThe place to be when it is about Peru. Very impressive, Having a good guide was very helpful, although going on your own is also possible. You can walk from Aguas Calientes, but in that case be sure you know what you do. It is not that easy
MoreWhat an amazing place and so grateful to have visited it after doing the Salkantay Trek.It definitely pays out to be the first one to enter this place. Try to get to the first viewpoint asap and you will be able to enjoy the view without any people. Wild lamas are the only other tourists. After an hour, the whole city is filled with people and you’ll have to queue.Make sure to visit the city at the end, once you get there you are not allowed to go back.
MoreSimply amazing, our guide made it extra especial. He took great picture memories. Worth staying an extra night in town.
MoreAmazing experience that should be a must do and part of everyones bucket list.Advice:1. Buy journey tickets (train and busin advance - like a month in high season2. Go early in the morning!3. Take a tour guide! There is no inscription anywhere explaining what you are looking at! 😅4. If you took the circuit 4 be aware:a. You can go and climb the mountain (4hours in total for tour and climbing)b. At some point you will have to choose "the mirror" or "the condor room". Choose wisely, you cant do both... (Unless you come back at the start and redo the whole tour)5. SUN CREAMMMM!!! ☀️🌞I hope this will help you all to have the best experience
MoreA must see. It truly is one of the worlds wonders. We had a guide that told about the history by the Incas and the discovery in modern time.
MoreEntirely worth the four day journey on the Inca Trail to experience this magical place. Absolutely stunning natural beauty, historical and spiritual significance
MoreIts everything you have heard and more .. plan well as coming here is not as straight forward as it may seem.. Inca rail has all inclusive package.. do that and they will take care of everything.
MoreDefinitely recommend getting a guide from a tour company if you want to learn about the history and Incan civilization. If not, then zooming through the ruins to get to the hike portion is also possible. We missed the hike as we had many questions regarding the structures, way of life etc but it means we’ll have to come back with the kids for that.
MoreHighly recommended taking the 4 day trek to see this. It was the hardest thing Ive ever done but the most rewarding thing too. Views are stunning, beautiful and I felt truly privileged to see this with my own eyes
MoreMachu Picchu is a small Inca town located at the top of the Peruvian Andes Mountains. It is considered one of the 7 wonders of the modern world and those who travel there always say that the place is charming and mystical and that it is a really exciting tour.
MorePerhaps the finest archeological site on the planet. Visited the place in 2018. We walked up the stairs with my friend (who thought it was very toughwith all our bags but it was so worth it. Many tourists, so be early.
MoreOne trip that actually lives up to the hype. We took a couple of years out of work and went all around the world, we saw pretty much everything there is to see and a lot of it is a disappointment....not Machu Picchu, this was really breathtaking. Top tip, if you want to save a bit of money AND have a better experience, dont use the bus to get up to the top, you can walk up for free, its not that difficult at all, its all stairs, and if you look at some of my pictures, those views are insane and some only visible on the walk up.
MoreOne of the seven wonders! Such an amazing place to visit! No more words to describe how beautiful it is! It is a must go! BUT! Please be aware of the following things: no food inside, just water; theres no toilet inside, use the toilet before you enter the main entrance; you have to walk a lot, make sure you wear comfortable shoes; bring as less things as you can, otherwise you have to walk and carry all your belongings the whole time; bring a rubbish bag if you can, because theres no rubbish bin that you can find!
MoreWhat an Amazing experience. The view is breathtaking. Its a place that must be visited at least once in a lifetime.
MoreAmazing! Must visit! You will find peace, history and stunning views on top. Such a precious experience!
MoreMost beautiful attractions on earth. We took tickets with the entrance at 6AM and it was definitely worth it to wake up early. Our tour guide Elisban was amazing and 15$ are totally acceptable for the experience and information that a guide offers you. You should book your tickets in advance and research which type of ticket you want (there are student prices). The Bus ticket up to the entrance are 24$ per person up and down. You can also choose to hike up for 2hrs.All in all it was the perfect experience and I would recommend it to everyone!!
MoreWow. Its all I was able to say while I was there just wow. Highly recommend bringing your backpack, as long as its not over packed where youll beore in the way, youll be fine. Bring a rain poncho, they do not allow umbrellas, it is a rain forest so expect rain. If youre having trouble with elevation grab a coca candy. Otherwise take your time enjoy and just take it all in. Cant wait to return.
MoreOne of the most beautiful place in the whole world 😍We are super impressed by the monument. Also views on Andes mountains are truly jaw droppers!
MoreReally amazing architecture which is alive even till date and remains untouched.Must go to see if you are interested in old architecture and the must do it with a guide who can explain in detail about the uniqueness of the Inca architecture at 8000 ft height.
MoreThis time im short in words to describe you just need to admire and recognize why these mountains where once considered expression of their deities; the city itself as well is a wonder portraying advanced engineering, math, agriculture and culture; respect and admiration its all Im leaving here after visiting
MoreAmazing and beautiful experience! If you go early in the morning there will be less people. When its cloudy its very majestic! Make sure to bring Soles for the restroom. Theres only one at the entrance so theres not one inside.
