We had a delicious fish chips made from fresh haddock. The batter was crispy and haddock light and tasty. Taste and feel wasnt oily at all. Size of portion was gorgeous. We ate one portion outside the shop and it was enough to satisfy two hungry people.Cheers

Worst fish and chips I have ever had!VERY DISAPPOINTING and not tasty at all. I had fish and chips - the batter was soggy and the meal was tasteless. My partner ordered a plain jumbo sausage and chips and when we took it down the road to eat it, she discovered they had battered it. She only ate half of the chips because they were rubbery and tasteless.Would not recommend this place :(

The best fish and chips i have ever had. The battery on the fish is so crispy but not hard. The chips are crispy too. I hate soggy chips, but these are not.

Chips were nice as were the fish cakes the battered fish and haggis retained to much oil. Not enough vinegar was put on. If you like way to much youll be happy. We didnt have salt.Its also rather expensive as well.

It was very good except, they put a little too much salt on, but still the fish was cooked beautifully, and chips were fresh and tasted good, mushy peas, were what you would expect, all in all a good takeaway, with a few seats inside 😋

Most reviews here are about the food but let me enlighten you an insight into their customer service. The guy at the counter was new, trying to manage things like a headless chicken. Not a problem, we all start somewhere. What was unacceptable that he went on to take order from the customer behind me despite he saw me waiting in front of the counter for 5 mins. This was a deliberate act, only he knows why. Manners cost nothing. It doesnt take a lot to be a good human being! Gentlemen behind me was kind enough to correct him and say I first in the queue, but the guy on the counter continued to be ignorant, as of he didnt want to serve. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I walked off. I hope the time management spends writing responses to these reviews, will utilise better to train these type of staff. The only bad experience I have had during my tour in Scotland. They say support local businesses...with this level of customer service, no chance.

Food was amazing, fresh and tasty, cannot recommend the shop enough.

The portions are huge. Id happily pay half and get half the food but they sell two of everything without asking. The food was nice but the owners obviously take offense when you post the food is nice.From the reply I understand the other comments where people comment stating rude arrogant owners.You should be ashamed the amount of food that must be wasted due to your greed for money. Obviously saying your products are nice is offensive to you. £25 for a chippy for 2 people is pathetic you must be secret oil giants.

Very oily rendition of fish and chips.Was really excited to eat here as I read the shop comments here that they use local top quality fish, fry them fresh to order, and make their chips fresh everyday.It was definitely made to order as I could hear them fry it while I waited, issue was that it was extremely oily. Both the chips and the fish. Drenched in oil and soggy. I ate it almost as soon as I left the shop so it wasn’t from being placed in a box for too long.Other than vinegar and salt, extra cost for condiments as well.Really wanted to love it. Perhaps others had better luck.

Food was excellent but our order got lost twice and we ended up waiting over half an hour.

Display offers Haddock, Cod, Halibut and Monkfish. Seems it doesnt matter what you order and pay for, they all come to the counter as a fish supper. I ordered a haddock supper, and the tiny fish I got in my box was no more a haddock than I am! Nor was it cod or halibut. Often chippers will sell whiting as haddock because the general public never know the difference, and it increases their profits. This fish wasnt even whiting. An educated guess, Id say it was North Atlantic hake, and it certainly wasnt fresh caught.If you say youre not knowingly mis-selling to your customers, then your fish merchant is mis-selling to you, and you should educate yourselves on the product youre buying.Worst fish supper Ive ever had, fish was cold by the time I got back to my car, the batter wasnt cooked all the way through, the strong smell/taste you get when eating hake wasnt pleasant, or expected and the fish didnt get finished. The only saving grace was the chips were good. Wont eat here again.Thanks for your response, if you are the owner, youll be fully aware theres no verbal communication, youre operating a ticket system for orders. Granted your shop was busy, and I waited in the que while the 6 people in front of me ordered various items, 3 of them ordering cod & chips, all of which came to the counter as fish suppers same as mine did.Perhaps you should re-read my review and edit your ridiculous response to save further embarrassing yourself. I accept I may be wrong in guessing it was hake, but Im certainly right it was no haddock.

Great service, and a delicious - and generous- portion of haddock and chips. Fresh made while we waited. Oh, and the biggest pickled onion!!

Visited here for the 4th time today, the staff where extremely rude , asked them very simple questions and they looked at me with discussed , customer tables occupied buy the shops delivery driver loitering around forcing customers to eat their food outside in the rain ,the food tho however is very nice ,it’s your personal choice if you can put up with the horrible staff to enjoy the meal ..

Friendly, quick (freshly cookedservice - portion size was excellent and very tasty. We had haddock/chips & monkfish/chips.Importantly, they put the salt and vinegar on the right way around.

Ordered 2 large haddock, fantastic fish, perfect. Unfortunately asked for salt n vinegar, none on! Asked for a receipt to be put in , no receipt! so I can claim company expenses, Still 5 stars for the food quality though.

Fish was ok, a bit small and oily.Chips were probably a few weeks old, only ate half of it.Wont be back. Youd get 3 stars if ketchup was free...but no. Had to pay for that too! 🤦🤔£9+ rip off

This was one of those surprise finds, a luck of the draw as we wanted a quick bite to eat - but we struck gold, tender fish that was perfectly cooked to order, just a thin layer of golden batter and proper chips - one of the best fish suppers Ive had for years - definitely worth a visit!

Had fish and chips from here last week and would happily say it was probably one of the best Ive had in a while.Unfortunately last nights fish supper was another thing entirely. To start with some of the chips were cold. Secondly, instead of the really good fillet of fish I had last week I was given four or five pieces of fish that certainly didnt live up to my expectations. Lastly on going back in to ask for the satchet of brown sauce that I had paid for the girl behind the counter said to me rather rudely " you have to pay for that".Unfortunately Im not here as a tourist and I could be working here for 9 months. Whether or not Ill try this chippie again remains to be seen. Very disappointed as I had been looking forward to last nights meal.

I ordered cod and chips with salt. What I received was completely bland, raw fish, wrapped in excessive batter.The chips were also bland, low quality, straight-from-the-freezer, and oily. I asked for salt for seasoning, I received nothing but bland food with not a hint of seasoning. It would have been nice (if not necessaryfor them to supply complimentary seasoning satchets. It is a takeaway shop, so customers will likely not have time to come back to ask for seasoning when their food is bland.The only redeeming factor was that the batter was crunchy, so it was at least fun to eat. Although that was also bland and oily.

We ordered 2 x half fried pizza super with curry sauce and gravy (pizza dipped in gravy is great). Really decent chippy and doesnt feel super greasy like some. It loses 1 star for the price - could get this back home (in the centre of Edinburghfor between £8.50-£10.50. This cost £16.

Ordered through just eat, food was ready for Takeaway within 10 mins, real chips cooked in beef dripping, proper chippy! Gravy is really nice, fish was fresh, portions were big, good choices. (Back again April 7th and food is as delicious as ever. Great chippy!!!)

I have ordered from Macaris numerous times and it used to be a favourite of mine. But over time it seems to have declined. Last couple orders took over 2 hours to be delivered as well as there were items missing. The food is good, but the wait times, missing items, cold food and £5 charge for using delivery on Just Eat ruins it.Good place to go if you are in town for a bite to eat, but I do not recommend getting delivery.

Had usual cod and chips take away, meal came in nice cardboard box, kept everything nice and warm. We parked at West End Car park couple minutes away and ate in the car with lovely view of the loch, boats, and locals fishing. Fish was nice and tasted fresh, not too greasy chips, perfect. Great end to a long day of driving to Scotland !

(Takeaway)Great fish and chips here - good quality fish. The chicken nuggets are also very good. However the best part by far is the posing which can consist of lovely cookie dough pie, amazing chocolate fudge cake, or cool ice cream.Great place! 👍

I’m still yet to find a place with chips I like, how’re the fish was really good. There isn’t a lot of seating if you’re more than two people so it’s best as a take away. I do like the wooden forks for the chips instead of plastic

Fish was really good and made fresh before our eyes, chips were a little dry for my taste. I do not recommend eating in though, since the circulation in the restaurant is not that good so you will smell like what you just had, also it is not a nice place after all.
