MELBA Vulcan - Cafe in Auckland, New Zealand
Friendly service but the food was a bit disappointing. Especially the portion size… my girlfriend got a smash toast and for that price it could easily be double the portion.
Rude offhand service. We were a group of 6 for lunch - 2 of the group arrived yesterday from the US for their first visit to NZ. I ordered the Three Cheese Panini with tomato and caramelised onion on the side. I got two thick slabs of ordinary sliced bread, with cheese (one kind), a slice of tomato and a teaspoon of what looked like chutney on the side. Looked like a toastie from a greasy spoon cafe. I politely said I had ordered a panini - the response "oh well they must have run out" and the guy walked off. One of the American ladies asked a different staff member if he could take a photo of the group for us - the response "I dont take photos" and he walked off. A third guy cleared the plates and I repeated that I had ordered a panini and got ordinary sliced bread. His response "where our chef comes from that is a panini". I felt as if I was in an episode of Fawlty Towers! I was so embarrased for our overseas visitors at this blatantly rude, offhand service. They did take the "panini" off my bill.
Great place with awesome coffee and food - must check out!
Incredible egg Benedict 🥰All the team is lovely thank youOne of the best breakfast
Great coffee, lovely little cafe. Small portions.
it was a busy holiday day, food was ok but it wasnt eggs benny as I expected. I didnt feel like returning them because place was crowded. I dined in but the ice coffee was in a take away plastic glass. Staff were friendly.
Very good coffee in a lovely, central location. Service was friendly. The decaf beans were freshly ground, which for me is a minimal standard of service I look for in a cafe.
Best cafè in Auckland! We ordered the Eggs Benedict and the French Toast. Pictures are included. The service was on point.
while the door says 4.30pm dont be fooled, we were told to go next door to mojo unless we wanted takeaway cups.pity, these guys used to be friendly.
Cozy little cafe. Good service, decent food.
I got the salmon hash - my poached egg was overdone, and there was very little salmon in the meal. The flavour was okay. Coffee was decent.
We arrived around 11am on Sunday for brunch. It was clearly a busy, popular spot. The outside tables were full so we went inside and were able to grab a table for three. The staff gave us some menus and we made our selections. Lots of good stuff on the menu so it was a struggle to pick! My daughter went for a iced chocolate and a cabinet brownie which she enjoyed. We also shared a French toast. My other daughter ordered the porridge. We got some hot drinks too. The drinks all came out quickly. The menu food was a little slower but understandable as they had so many tables of people. Everything looked great and tasted great too. Staff were doing well, given how busy they were.
Clean and efficient.. the breakfast was great. I would have given 5 stars, but my poached eggs were cold compared to the rest of the dish
Shocking service. Friend arrived a little early to a reserved dirty table. Asked them to clean it and they got shirty. I arrived and I had to go and ask for menus after 15 mins of sitting there. They took our order in respectable time and we got our coffees but 3 other tables - who arrived after us - got their meals before us. Asked staff where our meals were and they said we’re coming. Almost 40mins in they continued to serve others with food who arrived after us so I told the staff we were leaving. Waste of time. Not good enough considering the large number of staff on service vs table occupation. Won’t be returning.
Nice back street café excellent breakfast.
I loved this cafe. Superb service and great food.
Had a very disappointing experience here and wouldnt go back. Ordered porridge and it was served to us cold. Not even lukewarm but cold. Staff seemed irritated when we asked them to heat this. Once reheated it was hot but still very average in terms of toppings and flavour. Quite expensive for something that tasted like microwave Uncle Tobys porridge.
Love their coffee and food. Always have the egg bene and it was so good and it would be better if more greens can be added to that. Lovely ambience and great customer service. Hope they can have coconut milk in the future.
Excellent bacon benny with home made hash, great for a light breakfast thank you.
Melba is a gem of a local cafe. Its warm, actively welcoming to their customers, the coffee is really good and the food is reliably good. ( Mushrooms are my current favourite). The staff look after you so well and go out of their way to make your visit pleasant. 🌻🌻🌻
Came into the Cafe at 1:45pm today. Others were being served, when I went into the counter to order, I was refused service with the excuse being "kitchen is closed because were too busy". I noticed that the others being served were not Maori like me. Hmmmmm racists much!!! Never going here again!
Love the coffee, the ambiance, and the salmon hash was very good.
Had brekkie there had wholesome mince. I trying to cut carbs so no toast gave me extra egg. Brekkie was beautiful 5 star
I had three eggs omelette. I kinda liked it but I could taste something like coriander? My partner ordered french toast and he said it is the best french toast.
Outstanding coffee in the central city, from a page that seems to be open whenever you need it to be.
Most amazing crew of people! So welcoming and lovely every single time! Best vibes and no doubt THE BEST COFFEE IN AUCKLAND !!!
Lovely little cafe bustling with a lively atmosphere. Was a busy place (as is to be expected on a rainy Sunday morning!but the customer service was friendly and efficient. Chai was hot and delicious. My partner and I shared the French toast and they beautifully plated it on two dishes for us. It tasted just as good as it looked! Nice thick French toast is always the best. Good value as well. Highly recommend checking this charming cafe out.
The food and coffee was great but the reason Im reviewing is because the service was exceptional. Felt really looked after. Thank you
Love, love, love The Energizer. And the best hot chocolate ever! Plus we were very kindly given some to take away (so kind). Great food, amazing service. Can’t wait to go again.
Absolutely adorable! Little European alley in the heart of Auckland. The food was incredible and the coffee perfect. Quick and friendly service by the staff. Highly recommend!
One of the nicer chains with good, NZ breakfasts.
Our go to place for a delicious bite and the best coffee including decaf. Their cabinet foods and pastries are delish. Their menu caters for vegans and gluten free as well. Great selection with reasonable price. The staff are really polite and friendly. They have accommodated my request when cabinet food finished which was really nice. Highly Recommend 🤩🤩
Best French toast I’ve found in Auckland! The waiting staff is nice and very attentive. Mocha had just the right amount of chocolate, and the outside seating is a perfect place for some fresh air while eating:)
This cafe is tucked away at the top of Vulcan Lane off Queen Street. I was initially drawn to the name, having a soft spot for Australias early tough diva. I stayed though for the food.Have visited here before when I had their delicious Granola for breakfast. This time I chose their omelette for a late breakfast and it really hit the spot. Light, fluffy and delicious, it put me in good humour for the rest of the day.
Yummy salmon bagel. Fresh fluffy scrabble eggs. Omg so good.
An amazing cafe with friendly and polite staff. We had a delicious hearty breakfast with great coffee in central Auckland. They also listened to my instructions for my order. Good seating options, very clean and cosy. Highly recommend. We definitely will return 🥰🥰
The service is outstanding. Very clean and lovely place for breakfast. Food was delicious. My only personal negative will be the coffee ☕. It wasnt strong enough for my liking. Otherwise great 👍. Eggs were cooked spot on.
Great atmosphere on a weekend.Had a burger and coffee on a weekend morning.Busy but friendly staff. Would definitely want to try other menus next time.
Great coffee drinks and the eggs benedict are too die for! You can sit right outside in the alley and people watch. Highly recommend!
Cappuccino was weak and milky. Chocolate on top average. Breakfast burger was tasty. Nice bread. Bacon wasnt good though. Nice place. Friendly staff.
Pretty decent food and coffee! Had the louisana Chicken and salmon bagel which were quite filling and good!Would reccomened!
Always a solid breakfast choice down the lower end of town. Great service and coffee, mocha was sooo sweet though
Nice little place on Vulcan lane, had avocado smash and friend had honey chicken salad, nice good and great coffee, great place for a weekend brunch
A little bit expensive for the quantity in our plate (a small salad for 20$). Plus, I expected my salad to have a little seasoning (or some special tastebut it wasn’t really tasty.I haven’t tried something else except the salad so I can’t judge entirely but in my opinion, it is overpriced for the quantity you get
Great little cafe, with lots of regulars that come in and grab their coffee before work. The food was good, opted for something healthy, not enough milk or yoghurt was given with the meal to finish the granola, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and gave me more. The coffee tasted weak, wasn’t enough coffee in it in comparison to the size. Apart from the coffee, it was still a good experience.
The first time I went there I had the salmon bagel which was really average. You have to assemble your own bagel, very hard to work with. By the time youve finishes assembling the bagel, your bagel is already cold. However my second meal there was much better very tasty. The staffs there are nice. Food didnt take too long to arrive.
someone mentioned they serve one of the best eggs benedict and i can attest to it... you know its hard o get it right, but they done it... crispy base bread, egg that is properly drained (some bad shops get bresd soggyand in my case the pork belly with sweet sauce reminded me of japanese BbQ on ramen. they could have done with less hollandise sauce in fairness but i didnt find it troublingnicely tucked away in a laneway in city. service quick and friendly. they even accept Amex card which is plus for a traveller
Nice find on Vulcan lane, good service and decent range of choices on the menu. Food was served efficiently and promptly. Good for brunch and lunches.
Cute little breakfast place. Eggs were good and the coffee was great. Friendly staff too.
Vulcan Lane is the perfect setting for this amazing cafe. We came here for breakfast on our first day in Auckland and never went anywhere else for breakfast while we were there. Thats something I normally avoid doing, but there were too many amazing things on the menu to try.The eggs benedict were good, but the breakfast burger was incredible.
