M.K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art in Marijampolė
Description
An amazing and intimate museum with lovely staff and ever-changing exhibitions.
Typical art museum. Ticket prices could be more affordable.
Laba djene! Hasnt been familiar with Čiurlionis before I randomly met a lithuanian old man in the train between Kaunas and Vilnus. He recommended visiting this museum and I dont regret a bit. There are very impressive paintings, experimental ones, and some are touching to the deepest of your soul. Museum is quiet and not crowded. I wonder why this guy isnt famous? He had some interesting ideas about art and synergy of different media to have a stronger and profound effect. E.g. he painted a symphony. If youre in Kaunas - dont miss this wonderful museum and spend some time to get to know Čiurlionis.
MoreSadly not well known outside Lithuania, this artist died young, after a busy of creativity. This museum is a loving tribute to his life. Sign up for the VR experience; its worthwhile.
MoreOne of the best painters of the early 20th century!beautiful museum!
Superb collection of Ciurlionis works plus displays of Folk art and some early Lithuanian art as well
MoreĮkvepianti William Kendridge paroda! “The black square has to stand in for all our gaps and my gaps of understanding.”
MoreThis place should have a sign “children under certain age are not welcome”. We came with our three year old who was walking around and looking at the paintings. As soon as we walked into Ciurlionio exhibit, immediately I felt like someone was following me very closely. After taking a few turns, I knew I was followed by a person who works there. She got so close that I could feel her breathing down my neck. I turned around and asked “are you going to follow me around for the rest of the exhibit?” She said “yes”. She didn’t explain whether my son was talking too loud, walking too fast. She just stood there not knowing what to say. I was appalled and pretty disgusted. When she said “yes”, I answered that she doesn’t have to worry about it, because we are leaving. If children are not allowed and your staff will harass the guests, please be upfront about it, so I won’t waste my time and money for nothing.
MoreGreat expositions, artworks brochures in English, very well designed museum, i really like the vibe here. Amazing open space library. Little concert hall is whole new experience, love it.

MoreFantastic modern art museum with beautiful architecture and innovative art works inside. Easy to spend 2 hours here. So impressed!
MoreBrilliant William Kentridge exhibition! Other very interesting art works also. Very nice books in the museum shop.
MoreThe absolute must visit in Kaunas. Make sure to have a guide who will tell you more about Ciurlioniss paintings, then listen to his music, and then go watch the virtual experience / movie Angelu takais.

MoreNothing to hesitate about - go and enjoy the fantasy world of Čiurlionis and other tallented Lithuanian artists of XX century. Unfortunately, mostly men names in their permanent collection.
MoreČiurlionis museum is an interesting place. You can see his paintings and other Lithuanian art from old times.
MoreValuable art exhibits, impressive, unique, mystical paintings of Čiurlionis. Just give enough time for the experience.
MoreThe program Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 presents William Kentrige, a genius of contemporary art, for the first time in Lithuania.
MoreU can find there plenty of Lithuania pasts artefacts and amazing Lithuanian artists reinterpretation of reality, merging sound, mind, memories and visions. U are allowed to take as many pics as u wish, without a flash.
MoreGreat place!Especially VR film. Cost of visiting museum for students 2.5€Cost for VR film is 10€
MoreLiked this galley. Some of Lithuanias main painters from 1900 to 1930s. Separate exhibition space for leading painter and composer Ciurlionis with a music room to listen to his symphony. I listened to a piece The Forest and the Sea: wonderful. You are only allowed to a few photos here. Cafe on ground floor. Helpful staff.
MoreGood and helpful staff. Very beautiful paintings. The whole story about M.K.Čiurlionis is in there . I recommend this place for foreigners and Lithuanians .
MoreBeautiful exhibition, very good service. Guy who sold us tickets was very polite and helpful.
MoreThis is the most remarkable museum, the exhibit of Ciurlionis work is accompanied by his compositions. It is a truly magical experience to immerse into the world of this great European artist. If only time to do one thing in Kaunas, visit this museum.
MoreVery beautiful, mystical paintings by Lithuanias most famous artist. Deeply symbolic and moving, they are deceptively simple and have a profound effect on your psyche that has to be experienced to be believed. You must visit, you will take away an experience that will stay with you forever. His paintings speak of the essential Lithuanian soul, essentially pagan and spiritual at the same time.
MoreGreat inspirational place with awesome expositions and artsy vibe. Love it!
One of the best art museum in Kaunas. Quality exhibition of a famous Lithuanian painter and composer. The building of museum itself is a great example of an interwar architecture of Kaunas.
MoreReally great place. All the art work is amazing. I love how it has he original paintings and not just fake copies if it. The way the guides explain the story behind the art is really really good and detailed. This place a really good place to spend time. It takes around 60-90 minutes to fully enjoy yourself there.
MoreDoubt to go or not to go to the museum. Visited. After the visit was a very inspired mood. Like a very detailed audio guide. The same staff answers questions. Shows the works and details that need attention. The museum can be found not only with the work and biography of Konstantinas Čiurlionis. There is a hall where you can listen to music. The works of Konstantinas Čiurlionis are quite deep. They need to consider the details, this is their essence. I liked the series of paintings "Zodiac signs".
MoreIt was not actually my favourite place. I was expecting more, but ive found some nice art pieces and the place was friendly. Also, they have a problem with the illumination system. In the first room is hard to see the painting and it other rooms the there are some mistakes like: an oil portait is too high on a wall and the light reflection makes it impossible to understand the painting.
MoreFriendly and hospital stuff, willing to explain museum and art collection. One hour is a minimum for this spot, I advice at least 2 hours for peaceful tour.Thank you.
MoreBest experience! Best staff! Best Čiurlionis! Best in Kaunas!
If you are not aware of the main artist before there is not that much to see here. Good for a rainy day to spend a couple of hours. Nice building and well presented artwork. The Great War museum next doors is a must-see!
MoreBig museum with a variety of varried exhibits. Good if you have some spare time.
I had never heard of this artist before and i found his work really interesting. Both his music and his paintings have made him one of the most popular artists in Lithuania. The museum has a large collection of his artworks, (i was impressed by the paintings called " a funeral symphony"and a music room, where you can hear some of his music works ( "the forest" is excellent). Also the museum hosts collections with works of other artists. Very nice museum. It really worths a visit.
MoreGreat works of art both by Ciurlionis and other Lithuanian artists. Amazing light effects for the Genius picture. Unfortunately, not all star signs cards were available at the souvenir shop(
MoreIm giving this only 4 stars because modern art isnt to everyone taste. The museum itself is very good, well laid out, and has friendly staff. It is also well located and we were able to park on the street for amodest amount and still had time to explore around several other sites
MoreI found this museum very cool.I didnt know much about Ciurlionis. However, after watching his paintings go and see usual paintings (they are presented in second flooris really difficult. His style is fully dive to topic, find association about it and create satisfactory painting without any redundant detail.Even names of his work talks a lot of. Just consider: Eternity, Friendship, Truth, Thoughts, Night... .Must visit place if you want see pure art.
MoreA truly amazing collection of art by one of the most prominent Lithuanian artists of all time. I was blown away by the pictures, the level of detail in them is truly remarkable, and the imagery itself is incredibly captivating. The museum staff was incredibly helpful as well and volunteered to show us around even without having paid for the guided tour. The audio guide is also top notch, very detailed, and there is a lot of interspersed music written by Čiurlionis as well.
MoreEvery Wednesday is a free entrance day.The exhibition is not too big, takes about 1-2 hours for the whole museum if you dont have the guided tour. They have a nice bookshop.
MoreThis is definitely a great museum. The people working in it are helping and friendly. If you use the audio guide, you will experiment a full immersion in Ciurlionis works, listen to some extracts of its music, and enter in a sensational state of mind. Although the duration of the audio guide is quite long, if you have no idea about this Lithuanian artist, you should definitely take one. The museum itself was renovated quite recently and now looks simply great. 100% recommended to visit this place!
MoreHighly recommended to those who would like to get familiar with Lithuanian culture. The space and the exhibitions are amazing. From photography, music, paintings to books you will enjoy each one of them.
MoreThe building itself is a sample of pure art-modern in Kaunas before WW2. Very autenthic restoration.Exposition of greatest Lithuanian symbolism painter and music composer M.K. Ciurlionis brings you to the feeling of unreal, fantastic wold of art of the edge between XIX and XX c.New exposition of Lithuanian art is opened
MoreThis museum is a must if youre anywhere nearby. Ciurlonis paintings are very well presented as well as a good exhibition about his life and some on his music
MoreInteresting topic and exhibits, but museum itself quite unorganized and monotonous. Could be better.
MoreIts worth to visit the museum even if you are not interested in paintings. Čiurlionis had a very unique style, so paintings are not boring to watch. Museum itself is nice and modern.
