Hands-on displays & other educational programs about Volusia County’s fragile ecosystems.
I go to this trail almost weekly. Well kept, easy walk with just the right amount of challenge to make for a good workout. Only issue - when the weather is humid or it rains, you can feel the heat rise from the sand.
Great place to hike and impressive visitors center with live animals and lots of learning activities for kids. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
I love going here with my kids after-school and it is right next to the library. They also have little projects and book readings for the younger kids, take you on a walk on the nature trail. Super fun.
Great hiking trails. There are some nice hills and overlooks. Something to keep in mind is there is limited shade for much of the trails so hats and sunscreen is important on sunny days. The nature center at the trail head is awesome, as well.
I love this area. Whenever I need a break from everyday routines, I take my camera,go for a hike, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. You never know whats around the next bend!
I simply love this place and how engaged they are with the community/organizations. Ive volunteered here a few times over the years and their educational expos are worth the visit! Theres a lot to see, do and learn, we did see garden work and was given a tour through the trails, love the gift shop too!!
Seeing the Scrub Jays and skinks was fun. There were not many mosquitos !🦟
Nice area. Tricky to find since it is located behind the regional library. GOS can get you there, but the entrance is tucked away in a corner of the library parking lot. No shade except under a shelter with picnic tables. Very well maintained!
This place is ridiculous. The security guard is on a power trip per usual with security guards. So he/she ruined the picnic I have with my 3 year old daughter every weekend when we go do trails. Ridiculous.
Theyre the best there is and what they do!
Very nice place, just wished we had more time. We had a fun birding evening.
Great place to walk and enjoy nature has signs explain whats there and why..Its free! !
Fantastic trails for observing Florida Scrub Jays!
This is a great place for an easy hike. Trails are clearly marked, and you will undoubtedly see at least a few curious scrub jays. Dont miss the nature center there. Its interesting and informative, and will add to your enjoyment of the preserve.
Hiked The red trail but didnt get to see any scrub jays.
Excellent little park, great for hiking and trail running. The dunes are especially useful for fat burning when hiking/walking. Scrub jays are always there.
Connected to the library, this trail area is nice. Lack of clear trail markers make it questionable if your going the correct direction for the trail of choice. There is a area for thats a small "theatre" area thats looks very nice. Over all a nice little nature hike that includes the ability to learn about an area bird, palmettos and doesnt allow pets ! Peaceful and tranquil.
Awesome place to hike and bird watch. There ia a learning facility also. I did not go inside and not sure of the hours
Wonderful experience!! Recommended 100% its a very large reserve with ap lot of trails...here you can see a lot of wildlife in there natural habitat....a lo of bird species, bobcats...etc...etc...I was amazed by the Florida Scrub Jays...those are such of an amazing species...we have to protect them and NOT feed them please...last time I went there...I saw a beautiful bobcat...just laying on the ground taking a nap....what a gorgeous kitty...to bad I didnt take a good picture...because he was pretty far away and in a shadow of a tree...but hey...just to see him...it was an amazing experience....take with you water and insect repellent...
Awesome place to see rare Florida Scrub Jay. Easy, quick hike.
Cool trails and wildlife. Tail has 3 options pretty much short medium and long. The longest was 2.5 miles I think but was a good walk. Picture is a scrub jay we seen there was a tortoise sign but did not see any that day.
Amazing. Great hike under 3 miles and the scrub Jays are playful and friendly.
Its awesome the Scrub Jays are not scared of you at all and will come right up to you.its a nice place to enjoy the wildlife but make sure too bring sunscreen theres not much shade.
Quiet place to walk outdoors. Several trails to choose from. We passed very few other hikers and it was easy to avoid others on the same path. Bring water.
Beautiful place. Amazing staff.
Amazing location for a short trail. Hot and not much shade but easy and great for families.
Nice trails. Always see gopher tortoises and scrub jays.
Probably not fair to rate this now. Picked the worst time ever to hike this. Just after noon, direct sunlight and hot. Just know that these trails have NO shade and its very sandy. No wildlife will be out in the heat, but ants. Im sure that it would be more enjoyable at a cooler time.
Nice education center. Lots of information, some life animals (snakes, baby alligators, goldfish and Coraland event rooms. Not sure what the amphitheatre was about. The trail was without any direction signs and kinda boring
A great little getaway from the hustle and bustle of Deltona. A wonderful educational resource, for all! Scrub jay heaven.
The scenery was astonishing right up too where we seen a bear witch crossed our path, he was about 9 months old, breath taking to say the least
Very beautiful. Lots of hills with a great view. Right next to the library. The only place in Deltona like this. Its such a shame that there isnt more like this in Deltona, as most of the land has been cleared for homes, gas stations, and stores.
Quiet out of the way place to hike. Not all flat have some little hills to change grade of hike lots of birds
Always enjoy getting out into nature and the Lyonia Preserve is a great place to do so right here in Deltona! I suggest going early morning or late evening- FL sun can be brutal. Keep your eyes out for the scrub-jays!
The trail is good but needs more direction to where the exit is ho lost and thank God for Google we were able to find the exit
Nice trails through natural Florida scrubland. Not easy to traverse so will be very difficult for those with limited mobility and near impossible for those who are in any kind of wheelchair or similar device. There is a wonderful and very informative educational center right next to the entrance which is great for all ages.
Great Scrub Jay preserve and other gifts of nature
Beautiful scrub habitat. Encountered Florida Scrub Jays and some of them actually landed on a few people in the group so we got some great views. Trail is sandy, so it is not very accesible for people with disabilities. The indoor environmental center had a couple interactive exhibits and a few live animals. Entry was free.
We love visiting Lyonia Preserve and today we saw many Scrub Jays as well as many other birds including a Swallowtail Kite. This property is so important to the wildlife and a wonderful place to explore!
Really enjoyed coming out to the festival and getting to encounter the blue scrub Jay. Fascinating bird, great experience.
what a wonderful experience! seeing the scrub jay was an experience of a life time. I attended the wildlife festival and the tours were so informative. I have a great time there.
We did the longest loop (blue loop). Absolutely beautiful. We were blessed to have 4 friendly scrubjays pose for all the pictures we could take! Worth the trip & I will definitely be visiting again.
Awesome experience! Great staff and volunteers, will be back. Great place to take kids or visitors. So much information is available here. A great place to make learning fun and interactive. Take a short hike or longer hike through the scrub, a great way to see a different Florida.
Great hiking with amazing wildlife.. trails are sandy with a few hills and mostly out in the sun, so bring plenty of water... and if your lucky youll get a chance to see a Florida Scrub-Jay..
A great place to spend some time if you like animals and hiking. The shrub lands are exciting.
The hiking is great here will a few hills to climb. The environmental center is very interesting and educational.
A vast, serene area with wildlife around and a nice trail to follow. It is known for featuring the scrub jay, which either stayed hidden or flew away when we visited, but I would imagine they would be visible at times.
A great place to walk and see local wildlife like scrub jays and gopher tortoises as well as native plants and trees.
A great place to walk and see what a scrub oak habitat looks like. The Scrub Jays are very curious and will check you out as you walk. We also saw many other variety of birds that you normally wont see in your neighborhood.Be sure to check out the Environmental Center to learn more about the Scrub Jay, see some live reptiles, live fish and much more.
The preserve itself was a good hike. We saw some of the Scrub Jays. The path is mostly sand and in the sun. There are several trails you can take. The center in front has animals in small enclosures on display. The tarantula has no water, just rocks in its bowl, and I was told they dont need water and can easily drown. I have raised tarantulas since 1994. They need water for humidity to help molt and they do at times drink it. The rocks are so the crickets dont drown in the bowl. So they get 4 stars for lack of knowledge.
