This stripped back dining room serves seasonal British fare as a la carte lunches and set suppers.
The waiter was super friendly and gave helpful recommendations! We ordered the exact plates as he told us and every of them were perfect :Also the vibe was cozy. Not a fancy-looking restaurant but all the details were deliberately considered
Impeccably crafted dishes, unparalleled service and loads of choice. Particularly loved the mussel sauce. Very casual feel and a menu that changes daily. Would definitely recommend and come back. Thanks for a great birthday meal
Striped back venue in the heart of shoreditch. Excellent wine list especially excellent natural selection, simple ingredients done well. Staff took a lot of care to cater set menus for various intolerances.Favourite was the game liver parfait biscuit bite, smoked eel, ricotta ice cream. Some dishes were over seasoned and on the sweeter side.
We had the most incredible experience at Lyle’s for our anniversary! The food was sublime, and the cocktails (alcoholic and non-alcoholicwere absolutely beautiful. Every single member of staff we interacted with was lovely, knowledgeable, and down to earth. The place itself has an industrial yet elegant feel to it, and the ambiance is relaxed (and with great music too!). It was a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to go back.
Just wow. Treated ourselves to their degustation menu - the tequila aperitif is not to be missed. Every dish is an explosion of flavour, from subtle to woaw, how did they do that?. If you love food this is the place for you. The dessert dishes were a bit too sickly sweet for our taste, but everything else including service were on point
Good restaurant in shorditch, quite difficult to book.Service was excellent and very friendly. They only have set menu options with pescatarian and vegan menus to pick from too.Overall good experience but find flavours a bit too heavy and on the sweet side.Very fun and interesting wine list, can tell it has a lot thought put into it.
Delicious food in Lyle’s, good service as well. Special taste of the sour cheese ice cream which is worth trying. I love the foie gras, it melt in my mouth immensely.
Had the dinner set menu, there is no expensive ingredients in the menu. A bit of disappointing. The first two courses are quite refreshing and the rest of them are just so so.
Cool spot, excellent service, fantastic food. Very good value for a one star joint, and a reasonable 5 courses, instead of 20 😆. Best gazpacho I’ve ever had; if I lived in London I’d come back just for that.
Mind blowing culinary experience. Clams, sardines and then ... Totally amazing coffee meringue with caramel icecream and espresso. One of my top 5 restaurants so far!!!
I went there for dinner with some friends and I didn’t think it was value for money. Besides the forerib which was cooked perfectly and the courgette soup which was very flavourful (liked the caramelised courgette and parsley, the oyster and razor clam didn’t impress me.
Phenomenal experience: Lyles is a nicely located, discreet and award-winning restaurant that is worth a visit by anyone. We went there for Saturday lunch, so no tasting menu was available at the time. We instead opted to order most of the items in their Saturday menu, plus two desserts, which were more than enough for our party of four. The food was incredible, covering all kinds of products and styles, and so was the service, which were very kind to us. Most importantly, the price was very competitive for a restaurant of this quality. Overall, a very nice restaurant in Shoreditch which is sure to please you if you stop by.
Was recommended to give Lyles a try since it was listed on the worlds top 50 restaurant for a few years running now.Food was good, but I would not call it exceptional. We came in for lunch and was recommended three dishes by the waiter to share between two. We had the scallops, eel and pigs head terrine. I would say that the ingredients used and the way that it was present was unique and delicious. Though I think everything were somewhat on the saltier side of things, which made us a little thirsty after the meal especially with a few dishes coming with a side of bread. To circle back, we dropped by the restaurant as a walk-in just when they opened and were lucky enough to score ourselves some seats. But throughout the process until we got to our seats, I never felt welcomed. Maybe even unwelcomed, as the waiter seemed hesitant to even let us in. Im guessing Im not the only one to feel this way give that recent reviews also reported similar feelings.Overall, the whole experience largely felt like a restaurant to-do list, trying it once and maybe trying it a long time later again.
My favorite restaurant in London, which is saying a lot. Not just for the excellent, creative food. But also the always super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Can be hard to get a table, but definitely worth the effort.
Delicious food, great service. My husband and I were in town from the States and randomly walked. We were lucky enough to get a cancelled spot at the bar. Highly recommend. The Oyster, monkfish dish, and butter cake were the highlights.
the service seems to be oberloaded. the menu tastes well but nothing special. the creativity and finesse, I heard so much about, were absolutely missing. The dishes are carelessly arranged.
Unfortunately dining at Lyle‘s ended up being a bit of a disappointment. Noisy room, loud (if goodmusic, poor lighting — all of this made it hard to really focus and enjoy the food. The standalone impeccably prepared ingredients didn’t benefit from the chosen combinations in most of the dishes – the fish being the successful exception. The service was friendly and nicely unobtrusive, then again some courses were served rather rushed, others needed quite the wait. The menu changes daily (?!), so maybe just bad luck, but we won’t return.
We had the most wonderful evening, and will be back very very soon.I called to let them know wed be late and was made to feel relaxed and at ease that we would be seated when we arrived, like it was no problem at all.The ambience was sublime, truly one of the more relaxing, cosy and fresh restaurants Ive been in.The food was of course exceptional and again my vegetarian requirements were covered without a problem. All of the staff were attentive, fun and (on a running thememade us feel completely relaxed.
Amazing food , nice laid back atmosphere and great overall experience! You go to places and think , ok I liked this but not that , that part could be improved... Not at Lyles! Solid , even big, size tasting with limited number of dishes. All are absolutely fantastic with their own story to tell! Mouthful of flavors. Will be back.
Really really delicious and I appreciate their down-to-earth approach to fine dining.Highly recommend the smoked eel (their signature dishand the oysters. The smoked eel had an unbelievable savory flavor and it was paired with a charred cabbage with a wonderful creamy dressing.
Party of 4 — we ordered 8 dishes to share. Food looked deceptively simple but every dish tasted refined and well thought out. We especially liked the cockerel terrine and the smoked eel. Kitchen forgot one of our dishes and kept telling us itd be out "shortly", "in 2 minutes" — we ended up waiting a half hour for it. Apart from that mishap everything was perfect. Also the toilets were done up very thoughtfully — equipped with female sanitary products and hand towels. This is something Ive never seen elsewhere and I really appreciated the gesture even if I didnt need it at the time.
We visited Friday the 17th of June for my wife birthday. The first dish salad had a worm on top, we returned they offered a Fresh one we refused as how you can trust after seeing that... I convinced my wife to stay (not a good start).- Salad: -1 out of 5 critters included if I was in a Oaxacan restaurant and ask for worms will be happy as they are cooked not live...- Tripe: 2.5 of 5- Eel: 4 of 5- Grilled cheese: 3.5 of 5- Pork: 4 of 5- Pastry: 3 of 5- Coffee dessert: 4.5 of 5Service mediocre, they dont explain the menu. I add on the reservation that was my wife birthday they didnt write it on the dessert, disappointing.Ambient is unremarkable, like a Soviet era Polish Milk bar...Staff need retraining and more attention to detail.
Such an awesome restaurant. I fully understand the great reviews. Every detail was perfect. The reception, personal and very friendly. The food was just amazing, even the bread, couldnt stop eating it. Water bottles get refilled without you even noticing it. Simply perfect!
Such a great dining experience. Probably one of the best in London at the moment. So love the plate-sharing format where you can try 6-7 different dishes and all of them taste great. Every plate was thoughtfully prepared and made up to perfection. Will definitely come back again one day
amazing food with excellent service. meat is superb. scallop is not as good as i thought though. wonderful experience anyway.
An Honest Review, Lyles has doubled their price and downgraded their food over the years. No need to come back. Started coming here in 2016 and was blown away. Super quality cooking, reasonable prices. Fast forward to now, charging £30 + for small plates, and they use the cheapest cuts of meat. An almost raw stringy skirt steak, ground goat patty, with large chunks of fat. It makes you question who they may know at the 50 Best List, because this isn’t in the top 50 best restaurants in England, let alone the world. I challenge anyone to go here and think is the 2nd best restaurant in London. The service is very unprofessional. It’s like a hipster vibe, not a lot of attention to detail and the dessert was so basic, I was shocked. It’s ice cream with a few specks or rhubarb underneath. This wasn’t a “one off” this is seriously what they serve. How can a restaurant serving an undercooked chewy skirt steak be considered one of the best restaurants in the world ? It makes me question the integrity of that list. Seriously not worth a trip to Shoreditch
Many better places to spend your money - give this a miss. One of our guests started to feel ill mid meal, but we were still charged for their menu with a paltry 15% discount. Was also surprised to see the bartender sticking his mixing spoon in his mouth after stirring each cocktail he made for different guests that night. Not something to expect of any restaurant that considers itself a fine dine.
Everything about this lunch was a fantastic experience from the knowledgeable and friendly staff to the exquisite food. Luckily I was with a group of friends so we got to try quite a few of the dishes. The highlight for me were the razor clams in dashi with smoked olive oil. It was the perfect dish for me. Very yummy seafood in an umami flavourful base. The wine list had some delicious wines on it - white wines, orange wines, red wines and everything in between. The staff will help you choose the right matches for your meals!Highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. The chef and his team are superstars!
Perfect from the minute we entered to the minute we left! Eden looked after us so attentively without being In Your Face - a very pleasant person. Beautiful, clean restaurant, staff happy and appearing relaxed, even when it was very busy. Kitchen staff great to watch as they created their very tasty, special masterpieces. Everything we ate was sumptuously delicious. A wonderful evening.
I can’t understand how can people give less than five starts to this amazing place. If I could I would correct the most probably few that gave less than five. Because it’s simply impossible to give less than five. Unless you’re not able to taste (maybe you had COVID recently), hear, touch (from the human touch to the linen napkins detail), to make your palate grow like a cathedral dome (tasting out of this world wines having Gabriela as your guide), or you don’t know what life is about too.Thank God Lyle exists.
Very much a special occasion place due to price bracket. We popped in for a kitchen takeover by a Brazilian Chef. The food is excellent, with each dish explained as served by staff. A very upmarket mature crowd. Drink options seemed limited beyond wines, but I guess that is because wine choices were the best partner for the food there. Staff are professional. Lyles has become a staple of the area but this was the first time I had been here since it opened. Can get more for my buck elswhere normally BUT certainly worth it for that one gastro treat blowout you deserve.
Had an amazing meal at Lyles. Great service and a nice atmosphere. Highly recomend for a special occasion.
Best place I’ve visited in London so far. Not cheap but worth it. The ambiance is chill and relax, nothing pretentious but you get your Aesops and toilet goodies. The staff is cool and friendly, the sommelier planned a very interesting pairing and gave a lot of context for every wine which we enjoyed. The food was very very good. We had the cheese before dessert which we could have skipped but enjoyed every piece. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Had a lovely mid-week dinner, that started with a warm greeting from the host upon walking in (she came by to talk to us towards the end of our meal & she was a hoot!).The # of dishes was perfect - starting with a memorable oyster and shaved apple ice on top. Sublime.I love that theres a pescetarian menu alongside the main 1 (the only difference was beef vs monkfish last week).Meal per person was ~£165, with a shared bottle of wine & a couple cocktails (their pear vermouth cocktail was also phenomenal!).Lastly, I could probably live on their brown butter cake. Absolutely divine.Only constructive feedback would be that the table service isnt as attentive as other 1 stars Ive been to (where they fill water promptly, know how you use your utensils & arrange it accordingly etc).
excellent service. highly recommend the sea bass and smoked eel. bitter leave salad is of good balance.improvement needed on: razor shell lose the natural flavor, too salty. raw scallop is a bit bland. raw beef is a bit greasy due to the extra creamy sauce underneath.
One the the 2 restaurants in London to make it to the recent world s top 50 list. Lyles had been on our list for sometime now. Finding a convenient lunch time reservation, we went to Lyles in January to see what the fuss was about. Located in Shoreditch in a very nondescript building. The restaurant is not pretentious. A very simple, canteen like feel. The food was brought up one by one, and the chefs could be seen busy in the open kitchen. The restaurant wasnt very full at lunch, but everyone seemed to be very happy with the flavours and the simple presentation of the food. The service was the only reason why I cant give this restaurant a 5 star. It was lacklustre and a bit confused and not very friendly. I dont see why that was, given how empty the restaurant was.All in all, kudos to the chef and their team. But a friendlier service crew would do wonders. I suppose its the ranking that has made them a bit snooty. Not a pleasant experience, I certainly wont be back anytime soon.
Had high expectations here as Lyle’s is ranked 33 in the World’s 50 best restaurants list.Having dined in a vast variety of restaurants in London, sadly I do not understand what the hype is about. The ingredients were fresh .. but flavours were not extraordinary.
We had a fabulous evening of the most amazing food and wine. Everyone was incredibly nice to us and the information they provided on the food and wine made the experience run full circle. Would come back in a heartbeat!
A wonderful atmosphere, very attentive and friendly staff coupled with modern British food. There is no separate vegan menu but the kitchen is able to prepare a few tasty plant-based dishes.
they have different tasting menus for different dietary requirements, which is a great bonus, i ordered the pescatarian menu. the bread is really great, has the appropriate amount of moist. jerusalem artichoke was delicious, walnut and radicchio accompanied it really well, but the sea bass was absolutely the highlight. and for the desert i’d say buckwheat, chocolate and caramel was the fav, seems so simple yet so flavoursome.
One of the best restaurants in London by far - every time the texture, flavour and ingredients are top quality and their wine pairing recommendations are always the best, trust them blindly. The service is what you ‘d expect from a michelin starred restaurant yet not pretentious at all, very casual butalso attentive and informative. It’s by far my favourite place in London!
Jus wow. Went here on a recommendation from a friend and it was fantastic. With the menu changing on a daily basis you wont know what to expect, but this just adds to experience. Special shout out to all the staff who were unbelievable, super attentive and made my partner feel really welcome when she arrived early.
amazing dinner at lyle’s! good food good service nice wine selection. love the interaction at the bar. definitely planning to head back soon!
Nice room, nice food, nice service. The girolles were excellent, sour and appetizing. Teal duck with beetroot sweet sauce were a good combination! Everything was quite small, but because they were so good I wanted more. Fantastic experience.
Recently had a delightful birthday meal at Lyles. Very special place. The food was insanely good, the wine pairings perfectly complimented and fantastic service. Couldn’t be happier or recommend more highly!
We had such a superb experience at Lyles. The food was brilliant -- especially noteworthy are the porridge bread and the godly coffee/caramel meringue. Beyond the spectacular food, the service and atmosphere was great, with friendly and professional staff. A single sitting was enough to mark Lyles as one of our absolute favourite dining spots in London.
The very simple decor does not reflect the exquisite menu.We had a most enjoyable evening celebrating a friends birthday! The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The menu was exciting and provided a great selection of dishes for all the taste buds! The drinks selection was equally enjoyable.
Have been to Flor so many times during the lockdown for the pastry and ASAP pizza. So decided to try Lyles for an upgraded version of experience. All dishes are amazing. Especially the flatbread reminds me of the tasty ASAP pizza! The most impressive dish was the chicken. Good flavor and very juicy, not a typical dry roasted piece.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. Everything on the menu is delicious and creative. It may seem a bit on the pricey side but if you’re consider it is a Michelin star restaurant it’s surprisingly affordable. Staff is super friendly and the deco is minimalist and unpretentious. I’ve been there several times and will keep coming back
Last night I finally had a chance to try out Lyles. After dining here, I highly recommend this restaurant and its tasting menu. It is definitely one of the best I had tried so far.Portion is great, you will feel full but not overfull. Cooking style wise, I would describe all dishes are very down to earth. How so? It may not have luxury food presentation, but every bite of food you can expect to be surprised by new combination of flavour or texture. It comes back to the essence of food.I love all dishes, the only one I less like is the summer pudding with St Jude ice cream. However, it is definitely good to try it out.
