Lychee - Thai restaurant in Puerto Escondido, Mexico
Lychee in Puerto Escondido
Description
Privilege
This was our final and most expensive meal in Puerto. By "most expensive" I mean half the price we would have paid in the U.S.The food was as good as Id expect anywhere, and the cocktails were the bomb. Great live music too.
MoreIf you’re an Australian don’t come here. The vibe is nice and drinks are amazing but the food suuuuuucks especially if you’re used to eating good Thai food. It’s bland and flavourless :(
MoreDrinks were delicious, food was incredibly mediocre. It’s definitely a “vibe”, which includes sitting in uncomfortable wooden benches close to the ground. Pad see-ew was bad, inauthentic noodles (thin ones as opposed to the thicker noodles that the dish is made with), but the sailfish crudo was tasty. Don’t expect authentic Thai food.
MoreAwesome place with a really great vibe. I love when they play live music, it really adds to the ambience. The staff is super friendly and the cocktails are awesome--the pollo satay is my favorite dish.
MoreThe food was quite tasteless. Didn’t feel like Thai food - which is supposed to be flavorful / perfumed.Doesn’t worth the price honestly, disappointed.
MoreThe food its good perhaps not authentic but the closest I could get to Asian flavors in Mexico. The place is beautiful, I enjoy the layout, the lighting, but I wouldnt go back though it feels super fast pace, its not relax the waitress are pushing the drinks, getting in the middle to clean the table every 3 min, it feels heavy, a shame really!
MoreI love it, nice place to have dinner and hear music. It has really good food and it is a good service! Definitely I will come back.
MoreThe place has a good vibe, there are few tables but you can wait for a it. The food was very good and the cocktail too.
MoreThe red curry was awful! It tasted like tomato sauce. I’ve never had red curry without coconut milk?!!! Who the heck is the owner/chef. Are you kidding me? Look at the photo. That’s the “red curry”
MoreSpring rolls were delicious, as was the grilled fish and green curry. Pleasantly surprised by the selections and quality.
MoreThe quality of the food is not what it used to be. The service is terrible, the waitresses are hairdressing and chatting amongst themselves as opposed to tending the tables.DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE FAME THEY USED TO HAVE
MoreWonderful, fresh food, with nice ambience, and amazing staff! I had the Pad Thai with camarones, so much flavor! The red snapper ceviche was incredible too! Highly recommend this sweet spot!
MoreFantastic place to go and really great atmosphere and friendly staff! That being said even though I can understand the hype around this place, the food had nothing exceptional compared to the price. Still would recommend to go especially for their excellent cocktails
MoreWow what a great place in general everything was cool.
The flavors are way off from traditional Thai food. The place has a nice atmosphere and the cocktails are nice but to call it a Thai restaurant is a mistake.
MoreOne of the best places in Punta Zicatela. Really good Thai food with variety of options and with dietary preferences options. Good service by the waiters and surrounding music, even nice dogs. We went there twice to eat pad Thai 🤤 it’s the best.
MoreGreat food, the shrimp pad Thai is delicious. If you want something more spicy ask the waitress and they bring you a delicious crushed pepper in oil salsa that is perfect.
MoreCool place on the beach, with great vibes, groovy ambiance and great food. I am not sure I would define it “authentic Thai”, but the both the carpaccios we ordered were spot on, and the tuna steak was cooked to perfection on the grill with pineapple, maduro and other vegetables. It seems seems like the raw fish and the drinks are better than everything else on the menu.
MoreThe drinks here are fantastic, one of the best mojitos Ive ever had, also tried the Tigre mezcal! Very delicious. The food was also fantastic, it was packed when we were there and despite what other reviewers mentioned it didnt seem to take too long!
MoreNice spot for having dinner and drinksThe setup is cool as you can sit in the floor with pillows or they have communal tables and also regular tables.Food is amazing, I have to say I don’t know any Thai food but I think in this place it is very tasty. The drinks are very good please try their cocktails with mezcal. All staff is super friendly and we even have a mezcal with Abril :)Be there early as they close at 11pmMusic is so good
MoreWe took 3 starters which were ok for main course we took pad thai and red curry.Red curry it was not, it was a cheap untasty version of it and taste less, also the pad thai was very taste less.Im not one with high standards but i really didnt enjoy from the meal.
MoreVery nice place with live music, brings a really good vibe! We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen and it was nice to see them working together. We took a carpaccio to share it was okay but not incredible. The sea bream in red curry was very good! the satay chicken a bit dry though. Cocktails are very tasty. Overall we had a good experience :)
MoreI really liked the vibe, drinks and most of the dishes, the food is good but not authentic Thai. The mezcal drinks are delicious and very well served.Staff was friendly, food took 20 min to arrive but appetizer and drinks were quick. The environment was a mix of young people, families and couples.Went Monday night and it was busy, waited 10 min and got a place at the bar, which ended up being nice so we could order more drinks and talk to the hard working bar tenders.
MoreThis place is VERY hyped, so expect some waiting time when you arrive. BUT - it deserves the hype. Great drinks, great food, not the cheapest but still ok for asian food. The waitresses were extremely friendly, even though it was very busy. Food arrived quickly and was food, some people even said theirs was excellent. They have a small selection which I like, and it includes vegan options.
MoreReally nice vibe, good service and nice drinks. However the food doesnt have much Thai flavors. I would return because of the positives. Worth a try at least once.
MoreI have been a customer here for over two years.Lately, customer service has not been the best. The waitresses and management are not well organized. When I communicated to management the missing dishes or beverages they took the feedback in a professional manner. Feedback was accepted then they compensate in someway. Much appreciated but they should aim to better the dining experience and work on training.Unfortunately, that is not the case here as they keep making needless mistakes. I suggest that waiters get better training and clearly write orders on a note pad.The issue above is not my motivating factor for this review rather an embarrassing experience when I took my client to this restaurant, and he got food poisoning from the pad Thai chicken dish that they didn’t fully cook. The embarrassing part is that his friend was warned not eat here because they got food poisoning. Despite the warning my client trusted me and we dined here. He got food poisoning.Obviously, I’m going to eat here again.
MoreWent here for dinner after a long day on the beach. Ordered the shrimp pad thai. Vibes were great, pad thai was alright. The drinks however were absolutely amazing, we got two of the home juices.
MoreVery cool place with friendly stuff, sand on the ground and good music. The food was very tasty. Not classically Thai but still quite good. I had the vegan pad Thai which was very delicious. One star minus because I ordered the lemonade and they brought me a way moire expensive smoothie drink. The prices are good if you are going for vegetarian options. Very cool vibe there.
MoreThe carpaccio was spot on & refreshing. Atmosphere was fun, service was good and the vibe/music was on point. Can’t say the same for the pad see ew which was alright at best.
MoreThe capriccio starter was a 5. The green curry was a 3 at best. Really nice setting and very friendly staff. Added a extra lemonade onto the bill though and possibly a extra beer but wasnt sure about that so we didnt flag it. Could have been a 4 but was a bit pricey consideing the area.
MoreWhere do I start? How about with why I went there? Sure.So quite a few people we met recommended this place. I dont know why though. The place is really cool inside. But they are soooooo sloooooow. Like the same pace as this review.Next up: the foodIt was soooooooo average. Pad Thai was so plain it tasted of nada! So I asked for soy sauce, which never arrived. The fish curry wasnt a curry. It was a nice slab of fish, but the little bit of sauce wasnt good.Papaya salad was pretty deceSo slowSo blandSorryThe end
MoreGreat food, definitely worth the wait of you have to, its very popular. Try one of their funky drinks also, one word, delicious.
MoreNice place very good service, ambiance and all but its most definitely not thai food. The most amature flavorless thai food I have ever had.
MoreFood is delish! Ask for spicy, and you get it!! This only the pic of the drink of the day. Sooooo bueno!!
MoreIncreíble ambience right at the heart of Punta Zicatela. Never been anywhere like this before. Friendly service, tasty drinks and excellent food. Can be a bit on the pricey side but its definitely worth it.
MoreIt’s not great thai food but it’s okay and kind of a cool spot but they could wash their cushions now and then.
MoreGreat music and ambiance, sometimes they also have live music nights which are awesome! But to be honest the salad rolls I ordered were a little bland and dry. Maybe the other dishes are better?
MoreThe rolls are as fresh and deliscious as in ever had. Drinks are really good, Alcoholic and otherwise. We had Crispy Bananas and Molten Lava Cake for dessert, they were spectacular. The only drawback was the chicken was dry, highly recommend the shrimp or vegetarian Pad Thai.Highly recommended.
MoreThis place is amazing! The food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. Try to go early or expect to wait in line. The menu is very simple but theres nothing wrong with that...
MoreCurry and drinks were incredible. Nice hummus dip appetizer! And I loved the Jamaica lychee mezcal cocktail. Dont get the phad thai though, it was absolute garbage. I looked at pictures of it beforehand and I shouldve known, but gave them the benefit of the doubt...heed my warning haha. Great service and bartenders! Just skip the phad thai.
MoreGoing back again for sure! Love the cocktail choices and the food surpasses my expectation. P.S.: for those haters out there giving bad reviews, you can’t expect food to be exactly like Thailand.I am impressed by how well they can make those dishes with ingredients they can find here.
MoreWent for dinner. Hoping they would have some vegan options. They could offer Paper spring rolls and sweet and sour curry with vegetables and rice. The food was quite bland. The vegetables in the curry were a bit mushy.-Prices a bit high for what you get.+Nice atmosphere and moctails.
MoreNice atmosphere. The Pad Thai with shrimp was ok. It came out fast but the corona I ordered beforehand never arrived and wasnt asked again for something to drink until after I finished the Pad Thai.
MoreA great spot for some thai food! If you are a group of 1-3, I recommend sitting at the bar, you can watch the chefs make the plates as they are ordered, its a very fast-paced restaurant with various cooking stations. The service was very quick and friendly despite how packed the restaurant gets in the evenings.
MoreHouse green curry was amazing, flavors were Thai, but very unique. Bar seats around Open kitchen are best seats in the house, Live cooking show!!!
MoreThai good. Vibes are great. You can also eat on low tables sitting on the ground. They have nice homemade cocktails. Although a cocktail could be more pricy then your main course. If its busy staff can be a bit overwelmed. But they are nice and polite.
MoreGreat service. Professional and friendly staff.Good location... thats about it.They have an aeration issue, cooking smells all over, especially at the bar/counter closer to the kitchen.Imagine with all the sauteing and grilling...Be patient for your dish.Average food quality = overpriced. My peanut sauce based dish was full of soya sauce base with actual peanuts. Nothing to do with a real creamy peanut based thai sauce. Tasteless.Try it yourself, you might love it.Im a bit picky with the gastronomic experienceVegans and vegetarians be aware, they only have one really vegetarian option...the one in the picture... Teastless sauteed veggies 🤭
MoreThis is not the local experience, nor cuisine. This is the ‘alternative’ option in the city. And it’s very good in flavor, ambience and service!! The cuisine is seafood with a touch of Thai flavors. Highly recommended. Average prices vis-a-vis other restaurants in town.
MoreWe went there because a local coconut seller recommended, saying it was a very good place to eat. Indeed, the food is great and the drinks are good. We asked for the grilled fish of the day and it was delicious. Then we asked for the phai thay and it was also great. But, it is not yet on the same level as Chicama.
MoreWe had a great time here. The cocktails were delicious and the food was so full of fresh flavors. The green curry was so fresh and the shrimp was nicely done. I had the Thai basil chicken, and the flavors where in point. Only problem was that the chicken was precooked and therefor over cooked. Our server was always there even though it was fairly busy and it was New Years Eve.
