101 Cave Hill Rd, Luray, VA 22835, United States, Shenandoah
Massive underground lair with 140-ft. natural columns, colorful stalactites & brick walkways.
The formations in the caverns are amazing to look at. Its almost hard to believe theyre naturally formed. The walking paths are flat enough so that someone with a walker or wheelchair can navigate through the entire path. Several of the paths, a few I wouldve liked to explore, were closed off during my visit, but we were still able to see almost all of the cavern. From start to finish, it took our group about an hour to walk through. Admission is a little expensive, but it was on our list of attractions we wanted to see. Luray Caverns is a place I would recommend everyone visiting once. Probably dont need to do it more than that at it takes hundreds of years for the formations to change ever so slightly.
Beautiful caverns to explore. The lighting is excellent. They really did a great job of accenting the natural beauty of the caverns. The history of the caverns organ is pretty interesting, and getting to hear the docent play it was really cool. The tone of notes is truly beautiful and very special to hear it. There is also a great little rock gift shop across the parking lot. You can pick a bag of rocks and mine it in a water trough. The quality of rocks you get is excellent!
I heard from someone working at the front royal visitors center that Luray caverns was the best in the area. It was a good 45 minute drive but it definitely did not disappoint! It was beautiful!!We went on a Monday evening and it was empty. They took our photos at the entrance and ended up being really cute souvenirs. The caverns themselves were really big. We took our time and read through all 19 stops on the tour (they had self guided tours with a brochureI liked that we were able to go at our own pace and be able to take photos/ videos without other people photo bombing. There were pretty little lakes and huge formations. Great trip!
If you enjoy nature you’ll enjoy visiting Luray Caverns.Beautiful Place with amazing views.Friendly Staff!Even our 6 and 4 years old enjoyed it also.Parking is free!Adult tickets $32Kids 6 and up $16Senior Citizens $27They also have a gift shop and there are other things to do in the same plaza also.
These are the most colorful caverns I think I have ever been in. One comment I would like to make is the lack of places to sit down and rest. If you have mobility issues, I think it is important to have some places to sit and rest, because you are not allowed to sit and rest on the rocks. Worth noting, there are a lot of ups and downs on the walkway through the caverns. Some spots dont have hand rails where the rocks come close to the walkway. All in all, these are beautiful caverns. I would just like to see some additional rails and resting benches.
Absolutely beautiful caves with well defined paths and guides to help out along the way. The size of some of the stalactites and stalagmites is astounding! Tickets include access to some really fun family activities, and the cavern entrance is surrounded by beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I have a degree in geology. I am not in the field so I was missing some natural wonders. I picked this place because they let me carry my little dog into the place. It was also about halfway to my destination. This cave has some amazing features. I know, if you have ever visited a cave you have seen them all. Not true with this one. The formations are so old, they are huge. Its self guided, so you can go as fast as you would like. They even have a demonstration of an organ playing music on the formations. There are quite a few things to do and see in the property that arent the cave. Plan for more that an hour to be there
It’s a beautiful place to be with the family especially with the young ones, you learn a lot and enjoy the cavern and the museums. Lots of things to see. All the staff were very friendly helpful professional with a very heart warming welcome through the museum’s.Thank you all.
Truly a find of the century. Must visit place. The rock formations are magical which took millions of years to come to the state that they are today. Tickets are $32, The staff are very helpful, you will be given a booklet which serves as a guide and explains all the important formations. It will take about 1hr to complete the tour.
I loved coming here as a kid and I still love it as an adult. For the 1st time ever I took my 9 year old daughter with me to see the cave. She loved it. My other 2 older kids are into other activities that they didnt want to go in the cave with me. Well my 9 year old daughter also loved the car museum.
Awesome experience. Great historical landmark that weve been wanting to do. We did the self guided tour. Use your Giant Eagle or Martins grocery store bonus card to get a 50% discount on an adult ticket when purchasing another. The caverns were amazing. The pictures dont do it justice.
Overall nice experience if it’s your first of any caverns in the world. Well maintained, clean and lot of staff to help you navigate.Pros: surely breathtaking to see these natural formation, well marked to help you move, some of the formation are really surprising and mesmerising at the same time. Lights make the colours shine. Wishing well and musical area was good.Cons: 2 hour drive from Virginia, crowded especially on the weekends, tickets are a bit expensive, looks better in pics, can be bored post 10 min of walk inside, close to 1.5 hr of walk, should have audio tour for better guided experience.
This was a BEAUTIFUL cavern! All of the staff were super friendly and wanted to tell you about the history. If you go, definitely stop and listen to the stalactite organ. My young son and I had the best time. My suggestion is go during the week because it wont be as busy. The other little museums and maze around the caverns were cool but the cavern was the highlight! Also, the drive to Luray is amazingly beautiful as well. I would love to live in the area.
Super cool place for a day trip or short road trip. The caverns are beautiful. The side attractions are weird but in a good way. This place feels like a hold over from the 80s and 90s in a fun way. I would recommend trying to go on a weekday when it is less crowded.
Naturally carved rocks in such fantastic fashion - was a sight to behold 😍It is a good within the caves - be careful as it is a bit slippery at places. There were few places that you had to stop and admire all of that you can see! There was not such a rush - so we did that quite often. The main attraction for me was the Organ player. It was such a large open space like an auditorium and then Organ sounding - it was mesmerising. Care has been taken not to damage these carvings though. We heard it few times before we decided to move on 😍
Great visit, caverns are beautiful and awe-inspiring. They have a good do-it-yourself tour that is easy to follow. Go early, we went at 10am and walked right in, no waiting. Also helped ensure that there wasnt a big pile up while looking at everything. Cool gift store, lots of neat things to get. The wine (whitewas actually good, best served chilled. They also give you free access to the Car Museum and Toy Museum with the price of the ticket. They are definitely worth your time, and dont take much time to visit. Also the car museum sells fudge and cookies baked on site it would seem.
Great 45 - 1 1/2 hour self guided tour though this amazing cavern. Definitely recommend and then you have the Car museum, a eclectic collection of turn of the century vehicles. The Toy museum was ok the train wasnt working in the middle. but seeing the old toys brings nostalgic touch to it. Kids did the mining which was fun. Seeing the blacksmith shop was nice.
A must see if you are in Harrisonburg or Shenandoah area in Virginia. It’s a world of it own. Very clean and beautiful sight. They have a carnival like setting outside the caverns with vintage car museums, outdoor maze, zip lining and much more activities. The ticket prices are worth it and gives you the access to all the activities. The cavern tour is self-guided so it’s up to you how long you want to walk inside.
These caverns are truly miraculous spectacles of a lifetime. It is such a treat to walk through and stand among these marvelous wonders. I really can’t believe it is so open and accessible for so many patrons to explore. I would love to come back, but probably only on a weekday. It was quite busy on Saturday afternoon, and I got a bit annoyed by the amount of people I had to wait behind or shuffle around. The employees in the cave giving occasional “presentations” were not very helpful, excited, or professional, and most of the time you could barely hear them. And if you did hear them, they never said anything that really caught your attention. In the caves it is a wonderful, cool temperature (at least in the summer, I don’t know if it changeswith occasional water droplets on your head. I took off the jacket I brought in after just a couple minutes of being in there. The walkways are not strenuous or dangerous, but sometimes a bit steep and mildly slippery - although they have handrails along almost all of the pathway. It is not quite as loud as you might expect; a baby crying behind you is still pretty loud and annoying, but not as ear-piercing or enduring as you may think. I didn’t visit any of the other attractions, and they didn’t really seem worth it at all. My main impression of them was that they were made to add on to the caverns, so that a visit to Luray Caverns could be an all-day trip. And I suppose if you did visit everything else, you would get your money’s worth out of that $32 ticket. But for just those incredible caverns, if I were local I would only return on very special occasions to see the caverns again. Still, I would love to take it all in again, they really are incredible. I highly recommend!
An unexpected stop as we were driving from DC to Charlotte. The self guided caverns allowed us to go at our own pace. The caverns were amazing. The mile+ walk was well lit and the pamphlet provided info on the specific areas. There were some places where there was a backup of people who were taking pictures and standing in the way.
We really liked our visit to Luray Caverns. A few pros and cons:Pro:Stroller friendly. While our 2 year old loved walking with us, we brought a small stroller for when she got tired. There are only a handful of places that are steep, and she was fine to stay in the stroller.Go at your own pace. Theres lots of staff around to answer questions for you, but this is a self guided tour. It helped with a toddler, who often would like to stand and look closely at all the little things. We could take all the time we needed.Cons:The price is steep - the most expensive we saw in the area. While the caves were beautiful, my family agreed that at that cost, its probably not something wed stop to visit again.Weird owners - we heard someone talking in the gift shop about how weird the owners of the caverns are. A simple Google search taught us that theres lots of greed and in-fighting in the family thats worth millions of dollars from this attraction. It left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Theyre worth 10s of millions of dollars, but the charity donations from the caverns come from people tossing money into the one pool? Its not a place I want to readily give my money to again, to be honest.
it was my first descent into a cave. its a wonderful experience. Huge palace halls created by nature and illuminated by man. This was spectacular. Some of the passageways were as narrow as human height. An organ is installed in the cave. Tickets can be purchased with cash or a plastic card. You cant pay with Apple pay or any other contactless method, its inconvenient.
Luray Caverns was pretty incredible. I have done cave trips before like cave of the winds in Colorado Springs. These caverns were massive and the reflecting lake is a must see. How can a 2 foot cavern look like an entirely different planet. We also did the rope course activities which were well worth the cost to climb as long as you wanted.
Such a beautiful place!! They give you an informational pamphlet before you walk in and it lets you know that theres numbered markers along the way that coincidence with what youre supposed to read. Its not only beautiful, but you get to learn some cool facts about the caverns too! I also loved the lighting, it definitely makes you want to stop and take pictures when you get to each marker. My family and I had a wonderful time.
Very interesting place! Thankfully it is handicapped friendly! Small scooters will need help in some areas, big scooters and chairs should be fine as far as getting around. There is no way I would recommend a manual wheelchair as it would be an incredible workout. Now aside from that. The caverns are beautiful and neat to see, plenty of photo opportunities and things to learn. This is a self guided tour with a brochure that coordinates to numbered areas. You can take your time and enjoy the tour.
This is so far one of the best cavern experiences we’ve ever had. The inside is preserved well, and designed for walking and wheelchair, even pet owner can take their dog here(carry all the way). Highly recommended.
Such an amazing place to see! We were awestruck by the beauty of these caverns. While we didnt rush, we walked through the caverns at a good pace. It took us over 60 minutes. Staff are located inside the caverns to answer questions. There are other activities around the property to do like a garden maze, zipline, and museum. Highly recommend!
SO COOL!The adult admission i paid today, july 2022, was $32.Kids are $18 (age 7-13....i think), under 6 is free. The path through the cave is well paved, well lit, and flows in one direction. You get a pamphlet that provides a description of what youre looking at in the cave. Just a little over a mile of walking, its perfect for little kids to make it through without complaining! The car and carriage museum, included in admission, was so interesting!! Definitely check it out. Worth the trip and money!
First time back in 20+ years. Kudos to them for making the caverns much more accessible, and making everything move quickly. The caverns are more spectacular than I remember, and Ive been going since I was a kid. And the included car museum makes it a much better deal.
This cave is totally worth the visit. Per adult ticket is $32, 6-12 years kids $16 and under 6 is free. The ticket includes Luray Caverns, Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. We went early morning so it was worth the trip. Later in the day it started to get crowded. We enjoyed for almost one hour and half just inside the cave. They have employees who guides to and easy directions to go around. There are employees in some places to know more about the cave. They take pictures at the entrance which can be purchased for $40 or smaller packages also available at the end of the cave. The structures are mesmerising and the whole family enjoyed it.Please wear comfortable shoes as the paths can have water and a little puddles makes the way slippery. Lots of places and it was a long cave in and out. Totally recommend if you are in Virginia or DC.After lunch we explored the other places included in the ticket and return late in the afternoon. The have cafe nearby or downtown isn’t far as well. Enjoyed my trip to Luray 😁
Had a great time visiting the Luray Caverns with our family. Most of the place has safety rails for the elderly and anyone who has difficulties walking. The floor is coated with non-slip coating, but use caution. My 87 year old father made the trek. We walked carefully and slowly. A must see place. Its 1 1/2 miles in total. My husband and grandson were in awe. We have fun. We loved.
Easy to find with lots of parking. Self walking tour. Was bigger than expected. Not super crowded so able to get plenty of pictures. Been to many caves and this one was well organized, clear walking paths, good number of staff to answer questions and keep an eye on things. And then when done, cute little museums, fudge shop, small cafe, and they served wine and local beer at the heritage museum cafe.
Amazing! The caverns are a very impressive art form of nature! It’s is really nice in the caverns. The ropes course was cool and I really enjoyed the car museum. The cafe food was ok but not great. Everyone is super friendly here!
Great experience loved the caverns. The ticket price covers 3 attractions so after paying for the tickets each attractions is just a little more than $10 each. Not super busy great family fun would highly recommend.
I was very excited to visit Luray Caverns as the last time I was there was in the early 90s. Some of it is exactly the same as 30 years ago while other parts are brand new. We got there not long after it opened so there was no wait. By the time we left there was a rather large crowd for a weekday afternoon. I definitely suggest getting there early to beat the rush. The tour of the cavern is wonderful and you can walk at your own pace while reading about the different areas as you go through. It’s definitely a bit of a walk so be prepared to walk up and down slopes while inside. The price of the tickets was definitely high. There are a few other things to see included in the price of the tickets. However, they are rather niche, and many are not worth the higher ticket price for the cavern. The gift shop attached to the cavern is appropriately kitschy and overpriced. But it’s always fun to look for your name on branded products. Sadly they did not have a Molly Luray Cavern mug but I guess I can survive the injustice. The rocks and minerals for sale are always a hit with the kid. All in all a fun trip for the family and worth checking out if you’re in the area.
One of the best, huge & spectacular caverns I visited so far. What a beautiful natural crafted caves from inside, the temperature is so pleasant & a bit cold from outside. We loved the place, will definitely recommend and will definitely visit again. The guide services and the working model is amazing.
This cavern is truly one of the.most spectacular natural wonders I have seen in my life. The history of how this cave was found by accident about 150 years ago is amazing. The tour of the cavern was well planned and thought out and responsibly preserved. The tour takes about an hour to walk and a very good camera is highly recommended.I suggest visiting during the off peak season so that you feel rushed through the cave. There is a small Cafe, a gift shop and a few other shops.I highly recommend this park to those who enjoy nature and for those who want to experience a once in a lifetime thrill.Pictures do not do this cave justice. It must seen in person to appreciate the beauty and amazement of this place.
Some of the biggest and most impressive caverns we have been in. All self guided tours are great so you can go at your own pace. Staff here and there for info or questions and a numbered brochure to let you know the area youre in. You also get to see a car, toy and heritage museum included in the price, garden maze and rope adventure are extra. Small cafe and gift shops too. Easy to find, huge parking area, all very nicely kept and clean. A wonderful experience - highly recommend!
This place is spectacular. My first fun filled experience viewing the wonderful caverns. Also, there is an car museum and a antique toy shop included in the admission. I definitely want to go back and highly recommend it to anyone.
Went at the end of our spring break and it was really fun! It’s about 60-90 min to walk all the way through, depending on how long you stop for photos or listen to the organ. Many amazing sights and some parts of the caves are 7 million years old! Very interesting history and would recommend grabbing info pamphlet before you go through so you can follow along what each item is (they’re numbered). Tickets also include free admission to the toy museum and train/car museum next door. Really neat to see more historic items.
Great place to explore caverns, Caverns walk is about 1.5miles (per customer care person). Inside walk takes about 30mins to 1hour. Visited around 2:30pm on Sunday, not so crowded! Gift shop is cool to collect a souvenir. There is a cafe in front of the Caverns to pick a bite or ice cream! Kids love this place.
Great place for a trip with the family. Beautiful entrance to the caverns with a nice path and a self-guided tour brochure giving interesting notes on particular features. Friendly staff. A toy museum, zoo, garden maze, ropes course, and place where kids can sluice to find colorful stones from a bag of sand round out great activities. There is also a snack bar and gift shop.
Visited on a Thursday afternoon and it was decently crowded. My family of 3 was able to walk through the caverns in about an hour and it was spectacular. It is self-guided but you can pay for a guided tour. You are given a pamphlet with information as you walk through the caverns. Although it is definitely a tourist-y spot, I highly recommend checking this incredible place out as it is one of the great wonders of the east coast!
Great family fun! Caves are well lit and the formations are very impressive. The entire tour takes close to an hour. Plenty of nice restaurants in the Town of Luray, which is about 3 minutes drive from the caverns.Price of $32 per ticket might sound steep but the expereince is worth it.
This is by far one of the most unique landscape I ever visited. This place is around 2 hrs drive from Richmond. It has entry ticket of 32 dollars per adult as of March 2022 but totally worth it. Generally there is a tour guide who briefs about each spot and the history of caverns but during pandemic the tours were self guided.
Always a wonderful time! Its truly magical in these caverns and so much inspiration! The new renovations are amazing and are handicap and stroller accessible. My kids love the garden maze, rope climbing, the luray valley museum has a fun sluice for them to sift for gemstones, coins and arrowheads. We went on a rainy day this month and it was still very fun because most of the exhibits are indoors. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful. Luray caverns is a must see attraction. Went at opening (9am)on a Saturday, no wait, no crowd. Tour is self guided but friendly staff are there throughout the caves to answer questions and provide info about the rock formations. It is quite humid but cool down in the caves.
My Husband and I went to Luray Caverns after our Valentines Day Get a way at our Cabin. We enjoyed the caves and all the cool formations you will see. It was worth going, it will be something you remember. When you go in they take a picture of you infront of a green screen and when you come out to leave you can buy the pictures 2 little pictures 1 with a magnet/ photo frame that has Luray Caverns and a 8x10 for 45.00 or just the 2 little and the magnet/frame for 20.00. I got some nice pictures in the Caves.
Highly recommend to people coming to the area of Shenandoah National Park! The ticket is $32 per person, and it’s easier to purchase online va wait in line. It takes roughly a hour to visit the cavern. It’s very large and very beautiful. We really enjoyed the time here!
We came here in the end of October. It was a great rainy day activity. There was no wait to get in. The cave is bigger than Skyline cavern and it has a lot of cool formations. The price is a little steep in my opinion. It is a little cool in the cave so it’s recommended to have a light jacket on.
