We went here because our hotel (Sunset Tower Hotelrecommended it.It is a nice restaurant with a large covered patio in the back, but it was more like a boring extension to a garage. The menu was a bit off balance. Multiple meat (6x), two (2 fish and one (1vegetarian main. There was better variety in the starters, but no vegan options that we could see. There was a DineLA offer, three courses for $59 but choice was limited to two (2dishes per course and oddly no vegetarian main, and a choice of pastries for dessert (nothing vegan). When we asked about the vegetarian, rather than offer us the one veggie option on the menu (vegetable lasagnathey ”offered” us a special veggie dish which was thrown together in a contrived fashion rather than a well thought out and interesting vegetarian option. The wine list was completely thrown together and random. Fifteen pages of wines and some really nice offerings but hugely overpriced. And frankly, missing out on some very good wine producing regions - Argentina, New Zealand, & Australia just to name a few (especially given the large range of “domestic” Pinot Noir on offer). With such a meat driven menu the lack of even one Argentinian Malbec seems at worst a bit unsophisticated and at best simply odd.Having said all of this; unfortunately the quality of the food was both good and bad. Nice roasted veg starter with carrot and beetroot salad but carrot tops gritty and unwashed. Interesting scallop dish but frozen scallops which were poorly prepared. For an expensive restaurant, the quality, and perhaps more importantly the consistency, is simply not there. One more naughty little thing. We were asked to pay a surcharge for healthcare of the staff. This was a tad odd, considering the prices charged. If asking us to say good little boys for doing the right thing and treating your staff humanely. Virtually every other industry offers free healthcare to the employee (perhaps not the familyso well done you for entering the 21st century. Tacky that you ask me to subsidise (not support). We won’t be back...

Very very slow service, tiny portions of protein as in the fish, poorly seasoned to no seasoning at all with limp under done skin which, I prefer more well done or with some crispness. Also, the carpet and floor needed vacuuming or sweeping. Lucques has sadly lost its luster and appeal.

BEST people in the World, so nice full of kindness and care, very welcoming. Me and my little girl came all the way from Poland for private party and we surprised by how amazing people can be, with such beautiful hearts. My daughter and I had a blast. Memories for life. Every dish from salmon, cod, chicken to pork was fantastic. Seasoning was just perfect and not overly salted. The prices are on the high end. Most entree dishes are low to mid $40.

Fantastic food, very tasty, the bread with butter was amazing I almost ate 2 portions. Food is fresh, and gourmet, definitely a perfect place for a date or a celebration. You might even see some really really famous people sitting next to you... As it happened to us... Was fantastic highly recommended... But be aware this place is top prices.... As in bring a lot of cash ✨

An LA classic! Lucques is a cornerstone of the LA food scene. You simply will not find more perfectly balanced plates of fresh seasonal dishes than at Lucques. Everything here is perfect from the fresh baked sour dough with cultured butter and fleur de sel that they serve when you sit down to the French inspired pastries like the cherry and chocolate marjolaine at dessert and everything in between. I could go on and on but really you just have to try it, I guarantee you wont regret it.

Had a great evening here with very good food and great service. While the food was good, it wasnt great and imho does not warrant the very high prices. All our main courses were very salty. The wine selection is excellent but most are on the very expensive end as well.

Great service they were all very attentive and we even got a visit by the manager himself. Food was a bit too risky for me, The coil with cooked well but didnt have a lot of flavors in it there was a lot going on a plate. Fish market was better but also subtle in flavors. I liked the refreshing meringue and grapefruit dessert, surprisingly not too sweet. This place is perfect for a romantic date and the portions were just perfect to be full and to share but not overwhelming filling. I dont think I will be back though, the food just wasnt it for me. Thanks for great service.

This restaurant has had a long run in LA. It is a classic and is quite different than the shared-plate newbies. Not getting the crowds or young visitors any longer by the looks of it on the night we were there. Food was quite good but not always up to the prices (entrees in the $38-45 range). Worth going to and we would return but best when being treated.

Scottish night - what fun! Obviously this is a fav restaurant for many people with means. This was a special treat outing for us and it was a treat. It was a Sunday night and a prix fixe menu with a Scottish theme. We were greeted by a friendly wait staff, there was a bagpipe player, a lively group celebrating a birthday in the bar, and a simple yet elegant dining room. We decided to put our dinner in the hands of the chef. We ate things we wouldnt normally choose and enjoyed every minute of it. From fish soup to haggis, (a modified version from the traditional recipewe loved every bite and every dish went back clean. The wine pairings were lovely and unique (I know nothing about wine except for what I like and dont. The sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly, sharing tidbits that were interesting and fun, despite my lack of viticultural expertise. All in all it was a great night. It was a splurge, mostly funded as a gift from my parents, but an experience that will be remembered as delightful. I highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time there last Friday. Their outdoor space must be designed for such beautiful early autumn afternoon and after 2PM we had the luxury of having the whole space to ourselves. Our hostess was a very pleasant and attentive lady and overall the service was impeccable. Detail tells everything: the soup was divided for two of us before being served.More tribute should be paid to the food. This place excels in baking - how am I going to describe the amazing texture of the bread and pastries! The soft crab BLT really really impressed me. You can easily cut through this giant thing in front of you with a knife. The two slices of loaf were so crispy as well as light and soft - to the point that Id like to conceive them as pieces of crispy cloud… And the soft crab, tinted with the smoky flavor of the bacon, was itself very delicious. At the same time, we pretty much enjoyed the sweet corn soup (which had an interestingly complex taste), the ricotta dumplings, and the stonefruit galette. After all, we agreed with our hostess: "everything on the menu is good."

In town just one night, I took a chance and headed to Lucques at five pm just as they were opening, hoping to grab a quick dinner without a reservation. As luck would have it, the restaurant was actually closed for a private tasting dinner with two guest chefs, but the staff graciously invited me to stay and found me a seat at a quiet table. The price tag for the prixe fix meal was $150 and well worth every penny. Just over $200 including one drink and the tip, I absolutely enjoyed every mouthful prepared by chef Suzanne Goins and the two guest chefs. From wood fired pizza to grilled veggies, seared fish to duck, the meal was amazing. The melon panna cotta for dessert was the perfect ending to a really outstanding meal. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff professional and accommodating. Just be aware that the valet parking is cash only or you will need to go back inside and outside with a credit card. I would absolutely go back to Lucques the next time Im in town.

The food has been exceptional on every of my several visits. Its basic food - meat and vegetables - but wow everything delivers. The service is attentive but not bothersome. My one disappointment was going on a Sunday, making a reservation for six, and not being told that it was a fixed menu on Sundays. The reservationist really should mention that for Sundays.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in LA, but they have seriously gone down hill over the years. The food is either too salty or under seasoned. The meat and seafood is under or over cooked and the salads are gritty with dirt. James Beard winner? I’ve eaten at the Beard house in NY and they are certainly not worthy of this reward, maybe back in 2005.

A warm cozy atmosphere and very good food. I would say the food is moderately pricey the service is excellent and the selection and the quantity of food presented is adequate to plenty. I would say that its a nice place for celebrations, or taking out friends for an impressive but not pretentious dinner.

If you want one of the best culinary experiences in LA, paired with outstanding cocktails in a understated romantic atmosphere - then Lucques should be the first place on your list. I have been coming to this restaurant with my husband for over 9 years (mind you I am 31 -- hey hey millennialsand it has NEVER disappointed. The chic farmhouse decor with comfy booths and a seasonal farm to table menu that reminds me of some of the best restaurants in Napa. The owner Susan Goines is a James Beard award winner so it is a foodies dream. If you cant get a table I would recommend walking-in and sitting at the bar and talk with bartenders about their awesome cocktail menu. If you get lucky and Christian is working - he tends to make new specialty cocktails based on your tastes and the season. Service is impeccable and they have a beautiful atrium in the back for an indoor/outdoor feel. Only complaint would be that there is only ONE girls bathroom but I forget about that the moment their yummy churros desserts hits my mouth.

Waitress arrived after we were seated for about 20 minutes. Apologized and was very attentive thereafter. Food was good but not what I would consider delicious. I visited Lucques during the most recent round of dineLA. Its considered a must-try classic Angeleno institution, famous for Sunday suppers, owned by a James Beard Outstanding Chef winner and renowned cookbook author. Lucques is categorized as California-Mediterranean. I would describe it as Californian-cuisine focused with a pan-Mediterranean flair (French flavor leaning). Our meal began with toasted almonds and giant oblong green olives, served along with sourdough bread, butter, and French sea salt. The highlights were the crunchy almonds and the crusty sourdough. We ate all off the bread, which doesnt happen very often.Moving on, I shared a Barbaras Greens salad with my girlfriend. The waitress allowed a split order for this dish. The salad was simple, direct, fresh, and seemed to emphasize the use of seasonal local ingredients. The elements were leafy, crunchy, and creamy in texture. I thought that the beet puree was brilliant and blended well with the nutty pistachios and pomegranate seeds. It would have also paired well with goat cheese. Although the thin crostini topped with tangy labneh didnt quite fit in with the salad flavor-wise, this pair tasted good on its own.For the main course, I had the Portuguese-inspired stuffed chicken and I ate a few bites of the pan roasted lingcod. The Portuguese chicken was obviously the more entertaining dish, consisting of a Portuguese cured pork sausage stuffing enclosed in a small bone-in chicken with skin attached. The chicken was accompanied with sweet raisins and a tomato rice thats somewhat soupy. One thing that bothered me - the chicken was glazed with a thick sauce thats as sweet as yams. I personally prefer a spicy and smoky BBQ flavor profile more for the chicken to pair with the savory stuffing. But otherwise, this dish especially the sausages was scrumptious.Meanwhile, the lingcod was the more sophisticated dish. In my head, I imagined a heavy casserole of white fish baked together with a lot of cheese and potato gratin. Lucques had something else in mind, pan roasting the buttery fish and then layering it with tomatoes and perfectly cooked salt cod-potato gratin that had a silky, evenly distributed texture, all situated in olive oil and a very light tomato confit. It tasted like a creative homecooked dish. For dessert, I went with the apple galette that the waitress highly recommended, but ended up liking the meyer lemon semifreddo more. The fragrance of the meyer lemon stood out. It was bright but not overwhelming. The dessert had the brittle nuts and flaky crust necessary to match the sweet/acidic flavor profile. For the apple tart à la mode, I enjoyed the crust and the accompanying nuts the most. The Armagnac prunes were somewhat syrupy sweet and rich, apparently Armagnac is a French brandy.I thought that Lucques did a solid job putting together Californian comfort dishes using seasonal ingredients. But food is not the primary aspect that motivates me to return to Lucques, its the excellent service, personal touch, and comfortable warm ambiance that made an impression on me. I came to celebrate a birthday and everything was executed smoothly. Id like to revisit Lucques for their Sunday Supper in the future.

Lucques is one of this citys best restaurants. The food is excellent, the cocktails are tasty, and the setting is absolutely perfect. Sunday Supper is one of LAs treasures for good reason: three delicious courses for $45. Youll add on cocktails and a bottle of wine or two, so the meal will stray (farfrom the prix fixe... but you wont be unhappy.

Im giving three stars as I have had a wonderful meal here in the past - maybe two years ago. However, the last time I ate here, I was very disappointed. I would have sent my meal back but I was having a dinner meeting and didnt want to seem picky or difficult. It would have been too embarrassing to make a fuss in front of a client. My shrimp were tough, overcooked (which I cant standand the toast it was served on was so burned, it was black. I couldnt finish it. I contacted the restaurant the next day about my experience, and was told Id receive a gift certificate - but that didnt happen. So thats it, then.

Lucques is always on every LA list of best restaurants, so Ive had it bookmarked for awhile. I was pretty excited to come here for a work lunch, but honestly I was a tad underwhelmed.I do have to say that it was a gorgeous day out and I enjoyed the peaceful ambiance of the beautiful patio. The service throughout the entire meal was impeccable - the waiter was very patient and explained the options to us patiently and thoroughly. To start, the table was set with some almonds and olives, both of which were fine. I wouldnt order them myself though. For the mains, we decided to order the burger and the ranch steak frites to share. The burger meat was particularly tasty, although the burger overall was on the drier side, despite the sweet balsamic reduction. The steak itself was good, but was doused in a sauce that i didnt particularly like - also too sweet. I did enjoy the fries though!Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the food, especially considering the hype for Lucques. Maybe I just didnt order the right things. The ambiance is relaxing and peaceful, but its really all thats worth coming for.

I know theres just a generic review system, but that doesnt mean I compare all places to each other. You dont compare a 5 star fast food place to a 3 star haute couture Bauhaus eatery specializing in urban locovore post-modern consumption. So when a restaurant gets an average rating, it means its an average place that meets my expectations for that kind of place. Im not surprised. The food is as expected. The service average. All based on the kind of place youre at. Remember, compare apples to apples. Just because its better than your last trip to the local diner, or is better than what you cook at home, doesnt mean it gets max points. That said, Lucques was ok. It was fine. My boys brothers Manhattan had too much ice, and when we asked for one with less ice (because this one tasted mostly like water by the time I got it), they went back, scooped the ice out and put it in a new glass. It was still watery, but at least the damage didnt get any worse. The salads were impressively composed, anything made of bread that was toasted was superb, and the vegetarian ricotta dumplings are monotonous. Bite one is great, and all the ones after it are boring. The waitress, albeit a bit rude and short with us all evening, was right, however: the shortribs are really the house specialty, and definitely nice. Soft, flavorful, complex and well done. But not unexpected for the price and location.

Came here for their Sunday supper special - $45 prefixed menu. It was well worth the price. The chicken entree I ordered was very juicy and flavorful and the portion was surprisingly sufficient for my huge appetite. The biggest surprise of the meal was the pea salad. Who wouldve thought a plate of plain looking green peas could be so tasty! Great beer selection as well.

I came here with a group of friends for Sunday supper and it was great experience. We had some greens to start off with, and then you get to choose either a chicken dish or a fish dish, all of which were excellent.I did order an alcoholic drink: Kentucky Cola, which was really good. It went down smooth and was very tasty. Id highly recommend the Kentucky Cola. For dessert I had a lemon ricotta crostata was just the right amount of sweetness.

A gorgeous dining room, and great service come together in a perfect package with the fantastic seasonal menu from Suzanne Goins. While they are rightly famous for their short ribs, probably the best meals Ive had here have been the prix fixe Sunday Supper. There was one with a main dish of duck confit over fava beans, which I still long for.

I had high expectations coming in based on press and other reviews, and was not disappointed. We started with the ricotta dumplings and the prosciutto/figs/melons, which were delicious. We also loved the short ribs, though I didnt love the flavor combinations used in the CA sea bass special. All in all, though, it was a great experience - the wine list was extensive without being overwhelming, and the service spot-on.
