Casual Chinese restaurant serving family-style seafood meals & other Cantonese specialties.
I took my family there for dinner. We order some lobsters stirfried with ginger and scallions. We chose the live lobsters but after the food is cook , meat of lobster is definitely not from the live lobsters. 28 usd for a pound of dead lobsters. We paid hundred of dollars for the dinner which was very expensive. What a scam. Never be back again. People beware
My family has been going here for a many years. We still love it here! The food is amazing and comes out fast! The servers are also really nice.
Literally allowing the phone to ring... at this very moment. Delivery till 11... please read the timestamp
Asked for shrimp lo mein, no rice. All rice is what i got. Kinda angry, food tasted like it was cooked on an unclean grill kinda fishy tasting, all of it.Also I woke up during the night to throw up, and have been puking all day, pretty sure i got food poisoning. I Will not be returning.
The nicest service Ive ever had and the most amazing egg rolls too! Lightly battered chicken and delicious for the 5.99 dinner price per small!
I ordered sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice… I got all rice and maybe 8 pieces of the chicken… the egg rolls tasted like vinegar. It was the same with the general chicken. All rice and few pieces of meat. The only thing I liked was the wontons I ordered.
Sat in the restaurant for 15 minutes without someone asking if I ordered will not be coming back.
Paid for general saos chicken and fried rice with crab Rongoon. No sauce on the meat, hardly got enough meat, rongoons tasted off and the sweat and sour also was off. Opened the fortune cookie and it was stale..
We literally called and checked if they were open taking guests .. we just stopped here and they said to turn around lied to us that we they didnt talk to us and said closed for a private party.. we understand private party but this is very disrespectful
Order Hong Kong Style specifically. It is a different menu from what I could see. Much more authentic dishes. Wife (Vietnameseand I had the America Style standard Chinese food here one day and it was good but not that much different than others in the area. Next day had the Hong Kong style menu and it really was fantastic. Different more unique flavors. The Beef Chow Fun tasted as close to NYC Chinatown Beef Chow Fun as I have had. Wife explained the way it was cooked from how it tasted but that is beyond my pay grade. They have 2 different audiences here. I would go Hong Kong style and highly recommend that part of it.
Small amount of food compared to most restaurants of the same genre. Didnt get the order right and over charged for food we didnt realize wasnt included.
Every time we dined at Lucky Star we always had very good experience excellent food and service I’ve been following them since 2005
Food was good. Had to wait a while longer for it to be ready to go, but I did place a large order
Ordered General Tsos chicken & Egg rolls at 1030pm on Saturday and was absolutely blown away. Quality was excellent and service prompt.Cannot wait to go back again:)Also seemed to have an American style menu with the food everyone would be familiar with. GG hen a completely separate menu for, what seemed to be, authentic Cantonese cuisine.Dying to dive deeper into the foreign dishes.
Awful! Glasses were dirty, carts with dirty dishes all over the place. Food was horrible except for spare ribs & mostly fat.Not returning.
Great food but rude servers. These people act as if they want noone in their restaurant but those from their own culture. I wont go back. Will spend my money elsewhere. Theres many other places to dine like this. Its interesting how people forget where they came from, especially when coming to America from another country.
Food was authentic and very good. Wife is Chinese and she approves. Was not able to order a couple pork dishes which was kind of a bummer.
Great food, served family style. It was absolutely amazing being with the variety of food and love being there for dinner!
Delicious authentic Chinese food. If you like authentic Chinese food and not one of the corner chain, this is one place you should go.
My wife and I were worried when we first went inside. There was no one there and we waited. Finally a pleasant man came and seated us. Still kind of wierd that there were no customers. We ordered and the food was pretty good. A little pricey but that is the way it is anymore. My wife and I ordered 2 different meals but the sauce was the same. Didnt expect that. Good wonton soup. It had slices of pork In It.I wasnt thrilled but I wasnt dissapointed either. I would probably go back.
Great service and delicious food. Highly recommend.
Absolutely terrible!! Will not recommend AT ALL. Waited about 20 mins when it was supposed to be 10 and when I got my food there wasn’t ANY sauce on my chicken and it looked like the chicken was old. Waste of $12!!Asked for pork fried rice and got what looked like white rice with soy sauce on it. The broccoli was the only decent looking part of the combination.
Restaurant was not busy at 7:30 on Tuesday but the service was excellent and the food was excellent as well. The beef ribs are a must have! The whole lobster was very good...$38 a bit pricy. My wife had the jelly fish salad and like it a lot. She also liked the shark fin soup. Not a perfect ambiance but who cares if the food was great. Definitely recommend this place.
This place in business for a long time so as the staff. They are very friendly and the food is authentic (as least the menu that I got). I do know they cater to non-asian customers. The place is a bit run down, but seating is comfortable. The portions seemed less than before, however, still ok as they need to survive without hurting our pocket. Since they dont have part time help, normal weekday or weekend is fine, but during holidays, except to wait for a long time for service and food. Finally opened for take out only. Was told weekday not sure if it will open, but Friday to Sunday is from 5-10pm.
I will say that it was pretty delicious. The only thing was the texture of the chicken was the chicken was different from other Chinese places Ive eaten at. But you can tell that the chicken was completely fresh. It wasnt like normal breaded chicken that other Chinese places use. It wasnt very crispy, but it wasnt horrendously chewy neither. It was a pleasant meal, but the portion was kind of small for $10. However it was made with attention to detail, and the customer service was ideal and hospitable. Only reason i rate it 4 outta 5 is I loooveeee very crispy chicken. Ill be gladly returning.
Ive known this place for years. It might not seem appealing from outside, its clean inside. Was I amazed at the quality and quantity of the meals served! It brings back so many good memories of going to chinese restaurants with my folks and friends! Ive been here already 3 times in 1 month! Won Ton and hot & sour soups, as you would expect, spring rolls different sizes but always freshly made. Beef & Broccoli, General Tsos chicken, Pork in garlic sauce, moo goo gai pain, everything is served fresh and hot. Im not into waterchestnuts and have asked them to omit them. You still get the crackers duck sauce and mustard served. Tea is ordered. No Ice Cream though at the end. Fortune cookies, : They need some music in the background. Really unexpected, not sure why I have been avoiding it all these recent years. Expect doggy bags for next day lunch!
I called to order food and the woman taking my order was yelling at me I asked for beef and broccoli teriyaki and to add a side of lo mein and she started yelling that it doesn’t come with lo mein I was already aware of that and I wanted to buy a side of lo mein I don’t know what she didn’t understand because I tried to specify it a couple times ended up just hanging up because It was very unprofessional and the way she was talking I felt like something would’ve been done to my food
GREAT FOOD, DECENT PRICE, AND FRIENDLY SERVICES. Trust me it’s really well worth the money!!! Love to being here and enjoy their delicious food 😋
We come here so often, they know our order. Authentic Hong Kong style cuisine. Not exactly fancy, but their fresh seafood and prices more than make up for it. Family style dinners cater up to 10 people a table. Family owned restaurant, service is exceptional. FYI- September they are usually closed for their annual vacation, otherwise they are ALWAYS open.
This has been my favorite restaurant for many years. The steamed oysters are the best. They are amazing at their service. Food has always been fresh and delicious. You don’t have to have to ambiance to be served delicious food.
The food is so delicious and fresh. The staff are super friendly. I cant believe this was my first time going after growing up here. This is my new favorite Chinese food resource and I cant wait to go back again!
Took a while to get my take out because I was dumb enough to get it in fathers day lol. They were very apologetic. Great food, served family style. Was told about its authentic Chinese food, was not disappointed, well be back!
This place is most horrible Chinese restaurant. Do not go there. My bill was $279 and were written in Chinese. I think they intensional overcharge me. I will find out...? I The place is old and run down. The foods are expensive and horrible. Lobster in ginger sauce 0 point, oyster or scallops are all not fresh. Fried rice is hard and no flavor. This kind of crook restaurant should be closed down. I will report them regarding the receipt in Chinese language that means they are dishonest to customers.I JUST EAT ON SUNDAY, June 13rd, 2021.
Love this place. Extremely fast dine or pick up. Excellent service always. Give them a chance you wont regret it. My favorite Chinese restaurant. -Joe
I absolutely loved the ginger scallion Maine lobster, Chinese broccoli and vegetable fried rice that I ordered for take out. They prepared the food quickly and it was delicious. Very flavorful and they made the lobster slightly spicy upon our request. They also don’t use msg in their cooking and you can taste how fresh their ingredients are. I would highly recommend this place for takeout. The staff was also very friendly when I went to pick up my order. The lobster portion is big enough for two people with sides.
Watch out! These guys will over charged you!!!! A little Over $25 for beef Lo mein and ma po tofu. They have 2 menus and handwritten the price so it’s never the same with what is on the menu. Sad greedy...surprised they are still in business.
Food can be really good and some of it can be not so great prices are high imo.
I thought it was good! Home cooked style authentic Chinese food. Definitely a taste of home for me originally from Malaysia. I would definitely be back to try the other dishes!
Authentic home cook Chinese food. Not too fancy interior but big round windows. Westerners step out of your comfort zone of spring roll, beef & broccoli, dumpling or wonton soup ...there are more to offer more insider interesting exotic dish. Bring a Chinese friend there let them make decisions. If u touch the menu ud ruin everything. Lol
Excellent service, food, and value! My family and I have been coming here for years and its a family favorite! Our favorites are the steamed fish and peppercorn squid, which are always extremely fresh. Theyre very accommodating and I highly recommend.
Im not a very picky person and rearly find it necessary to write negative reviews. HOWEVER this place is really a let down and after spending $20 dollars on a combination platter and a "side" of house special fried rice($8all of the food Is low quality. lesson learned drive the extra 5 minutes to the next Chinese food spot.
Bland, tasteless. Truly a minimal effort. I ordered for pickup and was told 10 minutes. 40 minutes later, it still wasnt done. The orange chicken came out Gen Tsao, with orange sauce on the side. Chicken & broccoli was about 1 to 10 ratio of meat to veg. Steamed veg & shrimp lo mein was completely tasteless. The dinners averaged more than $10 each--too much for what we got.
My dish was supposed to be spicy, it was just sticky sweet. 4 people ordered hot tea, we got one pot and were not offered any more. Nothing to make me eat there again.
My family use to go go here all the time when it was Marbo many years ago. Not sure whats been going on since then. Weve still gone quite enough times since its been Lucky Star & have always had something wrong, whether it was an order, something about an order, or the service. We hadnt been in over 2 yrs. & decided to go. The night we went they failed to inform us that they were only taking cash because their system keeps crashing & not accepting cards blaming other things in the area. Needless to say, we didnt have much cash, the plan was to pay with card, which they "tried, but card declined" but yet the big family that had a birthday party before us, their card went through. Our food wasnt that great this time, let alone the service. We dont recommend going there.
Although the ambience is simple, the food and the service we excellent! I had sweet n sour shrimp combo. It was cooked perfectly. Light and crisp. Egg roll- same. Pork fried rice was fresh and yummy. One of the best Chinese meals Ive eaten in a long time.
We have been going to Lucky Star for years. Its one of the few authentic Cantonese style restaurants in town. We love the fresh seafood (steamed scallops in garlic and vermicelli, eel in a stone pot, steamed oysters in black bean sauce, salt and pepper calamari). We know the wait staff well and they are so friendly especially to my elderly grandma. The food is really delicious.Like many mom and pop style immigrant restaurants there are some cons...the decor isnt great. This is definitely not a fancy place but oddly there are often Asian wedding receptions here which always make for a very busy evening.
Appearances...so deceiving. This restaurant could definitely use an update and some maintenance to the exterior and interior but food is tasty. Seated quickly by a very nice man who was friendly and helpful throughout our entire dinner. This is a family style restaurant so best to order a few dishes and share to get the whole experience (as well as taste more dishes!). Dishes that were ordered at our table: crab meat and fish mow soup, salted fish fried rice, beef chow fun, whole fried tilapia in a ginger sauce, shrimp with garlic chives, and snow pea tips. Almost everything tasted good. I didnt care for the fried rice, would not order again. Tilapia was good! Fried perfectly with a nice sauce. Snow pea tips are always good anywhere that I have been, and Lucky Star is not an exception. Soup was ok, kinda bland.Extensive menu, will have to come back and order the duck and try some other items. Unfortunately, they were out of a lot of seafood options that my friend wanted to try. Other than that, service was great and I didnt leave hungry!
One of the two authentic Chinese restaurants in the saint Pete area. It has the best Asian seafood in the area as well. The style is Cantonese/Hong Kong style and they serve hard to find seafood its like white eel, giant diver scallops, giant oysters and the freshest shrimp. If you want to try authentic Chinese food - this is the place. You might have to ask for the family style menu though
Tasty, egg roll cabbage not as good as I have had and pork fried rice was mixed with white rice not completely brown. Service really good. Fresh shrimp lobster and crab right out of the tank fresh.
get the special house tofu. It is delicious! Weve been going here for forever. The staff is always friendly and the seafood is top notch. flounder is so tender and flavorful. pig intestines are delicious too, so crunchy and goes great with the pickled vegetables. this place is a very very excellent Chinese food place. #RealCuisine
