Lucano in Kirkwall

The Italian food id good but rather expensive, and the place is a bit pretentious and not at all cosy or atmospheric.

Garlic bread could have been better. The carbonara was lovely, they even added some chicken at my request. Half portion was just right for me. My husband said the gnocchi was tasty.

Fabulous… an expression of hospitality standards that all restaurants & cafes in Orkney need to match.Authentic Italian cuisine & expresso.I’m vegetarian and they have great vegetarian daily specials.During my four day stay here, drove from stromness & dined here everyday.It’s worth the journey 😀Thank you

We had seen the place busy and decided to give it a try. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food was okay but we felt the pasta dish was microwaved. We also felt it was overpriced. We left disappointed. We had desert and coffee elsewhere.

We enjoyed an evening meal here whilst staying in Kirkwall. The food was really good, the wait wasnt too long either. The staff were accommodating and friendly and the owner was lovely. There were a couple of hiccups along the evening, namely one forgotten item, and then turning up with an additional 2 desserts we didnt order, but we understand they are understaffed and the staff were very busy the entire evening. However I know how hard it is running places understaffed and dont think this should have a star detracted for that reason alone as the food was fab. Well done all, we will be back when visit again! And breakfast was lovely too ; )

Food good service good prices about average (everything is higher due to covid)

simple delicious authentic italian food served by young waiters who worked hard to ensure you were happy. We had house red priced reasonably and was an easy drinkable wine

Magnificent. Always our go to place for best dining in Orkney.Back to Lucano tonight, one month after last visit. Ordered same linguine dish expecting another magnificent meal. 1st time the sauce was rich and creamy bursting with seafood flavor. tonight dry and stiff with little flavor ( dull1st time it had a significant amount of scallops and salmon tonight 2 scallops and were so small hardly noticed them and very little salmon. My dining companions lasagna was burnt. Very disappointed with what is usually a great dining experience. Hopefully this was just a one off bc we really like Luciano. The service and staff were great as usual 👌.

The food was delicious, and the kids had a free Freddo at the end, which was a real treat :)

Had a wonderful ladies lunch today. Young waitress was attentive and polite. Food was delicious and waited by numerous staff so excellent service.Food delicious shared starter of squid and bruschetta followed by pizza ( sorry chef for pineapple requestlasagna and carbonara. Nice glass of wine ( a bit pricey but deliciousthen : different desserts. What I’d not to like about this restaurant ??Looking forward to my next visit.

The worst experience in my life ,I spend 39 pounds for uncooked pizza the seafood was soggy and bland ,I try to speak very polite to a lady but she was very rude to me I dont recommend to waste money in Lucano place .

Sadly not the experience was expectingThe food was ok, for the price, but - no doubt due to BREXIT & COVID - the service wasnt what one would expect from an italian restaurant

We came here as two for a business meal.. Absolutely shocked by the prices.. Examples: calamari starter over £13, pizza £18... Bottle of beer £8... These are simply grossly over inflated prices..The place mats were worn out so the table just looked scruffy...I was speaking to my colleague when the waiter just interrupted our conversation without any politeness....I had my main dish linguini with some seafood.. The serving was minimal and swimming in grease.. Only had two scallops in it.. I was left feeling hungry..The parmigiano cheese was served via a cheap plastic grinder.. This should always be available to diners in a dish with a spoon so each person can serve as desired..When the bill came it was incorrect - mistake or deliberate? Lucky we checked...!Overall a business which has increased prices to the absolute limit in the post covid market..Final opinion: .. AVOID ....

Really really disappointed. Restaurant was full which is normally a good sign. We ordered salmon scallop pasta and king prawn scallop dishes. I asked for no mussels. When dish came, it had mussels and one and a half small prawns, yes one and a half for £21. Sent it back and new dish wasn’t much better. The wife’s dish was as poor with very little salmon. Although we spoke to the manager, there was no offer of price reduction. You have been warned, very expensive food.

The food was delicious, seafood Linguine, but totally overpriced for a pasta dish. Atmosphere was OK, but bustling and packed. I didnt want to spend any more time there after I finished my dinner, which is probably what they want.The beer selection is good but again, way to expensive - 7 quid for a pint?The place is up for sale, by the way (6/2022)

Booked a large table for a 5 oclock sitting as we had a show to go to but didnt get our main course until 5.55pm which was s bit disappointing although the food was excellent 😀

Perfectly good food and service, however the prices are high and dont reflect the quality of the food. For example, £16.95 for a pretty average carbonara. £7.80 for a pint of local beer.

Had dinner last night with my partner, I ordered the monkfish and it was delicious, unfortunately my partner got pasta with Italian sausage and it was average at best I could of made better at home, the sausage was slices not chunks, no became sauce and really just a plate of pasta with a weak tomato sauce and the drinks were £20 for 2 drinks a beer and a wine will not be going again

Nice food and friendly staff. This is a nice treat when we visit orkney. It can get busy though so, if you want to eat in, booking is advisable.

The food was lovely and we enjoyed it. However we were denied to have a look at the desert menu because our table had to be cleared for other customers, when nobody was waiting at the entrance. We found it quite impolite. Anyway good food, but the service should be improved.

Great atmosphere with super food. However I was a little disappointed that my linguine ai frutti di mare, as nice as it was, only contained 1 king prawn, 1 scallop and 3 mussels, especially as the menu said prawns and scallops (i.e. plural).

On a trip from Glasgow to Orkney for a few days. My group and I popped into this Italian restaurant for a quick coffee and shared slice of pizza. Turns out to be the best coffee and pizza I have tried in quite some time. I am a particular fan of pizzas and have tried quite a few, including many highly regarded Glasgow restaurants but its hard to find an authentic Italian made pizza these days. I certainly wasnt expecting it to taste as good and reasonable prices.I ended going back for a second time, partially to check if maybe I was exaggerating in my own mind how nice it was the first time. So I went back for a full pizza and can honestly say its one of the nicest pizzas Ive tried, along with the coffee and lovely house red wine.Good friendly service, clean restaurant and only wish I had more time to try some of the other food on the menu. Whoever cooks the pizza certainly knows what their doing and is a more than a match for any pizza Ive had with all the variety available in Glasgow. Thanks again.

It’s Italian in Orkney. Had breakfast and dinner both. Really good food, good price and wonderful service. Tried both pizza and pasta.Oh and don’t forget to try their tiramisu.

Pretty solid, loved the mozzarella bread stick thing, and nice beers.Shame the raven was out, but that made us try some even yummier ones. Wouldnt accept part card part cash or other split payment.

On arrival we had to wait for a table it was so busy.It was worth it. Delicious food and attentive service. Décor is simple and tasteful. Pizza so "light" and delicious I was gobsmacked. And a coffee was scrumptious. Highly recommended.

What lovely food! Like other restaurants in the area, you have to book ahead. Well worth the effort. Great young, enthusiastic team of staff and food that was really enjoyable to eat. Standard Italian menu well cooked and presented.

Very much enjoyed our meal. Service was quick and friendly. We had two vegetarian dishes, the gnocchi and the rocket pasta. They were both good though I would suggest more rocket cos I love it! Meal not cheap but we were happy to treat ourselves on holiday.

I was visiting Orkney and did not find any other options for Italian food so I decided to check out this place. The bill for a pizza, a pasta, garlic bread with cheese, a slice of cheesecake, and one coffee was about forty pounds. According to Orkney rates, that is on the pricier side. The food was a good change from the other food I had been having at Orkney but I would recommend the staff make their pizzas more exciting; like adding or providing olive oil for the pizzas. If you are looking for Italian food, do check out Lucano and be specific about what you need with the staff. Do not rely on the reviews of others.

Best Lasagne Ive ever tasted, truly authentic Italian food, atmosphere great and staff friendly. Interesting choice of inventive fruit juices along with good selection of local and other beers. Highly recommend.

Gracia Mille. Little Italy at Orkney. The pizza is authentic and delicious. Other dishes as well cooked with love from 🇮🇹. Good choice of wine and local Beers. Staff is helpful and nice. Highly Recommended for lunch or dinner.

I think this is an authentic Italian restaurant. I saw the pizza oven and it was very big. The salted fish pizza I chose was very delicious. The clerks service attitude is very good. Ill come again if I have the chance.

This is one of my favourite places to eat. Had a wonderful meal tonight to celebrate my birthday. Absolutely brilliant. X

Food was OK... though my salmon was overcooked for my tastes. Staff were mostly lovely (two outta three aint bad). The dining area feels a little like a cafeteria. The bread was disappointing (tasted a little stale). Highlight was the scallops. Wow. Perfectly cooked and so fresh.
