Loughcrew, Oldcastle, Co. Meath, Ireland, Navan
6-acre landscaped garden with lake, plus an adventure centre, coffee shop and 1850's house for hire.
Lovely relaxing walk with fairy trail distraction for kids which has a riddle at every stop. €8 admission for adults and the 3yr old was free. Lovely coffee spot at the end is worth a visit , friendly staff.
Very interesting garden walk with the doggies followed by soup & sandwich at the Limetree cafe. Extremely enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
The estate gardens are amazing. They are beautifully kept and there is interesting and fun art in it. The history of Ireland is embedded in this property too. However they are quite small. The cost of admission is 8 euro per adult or 22 euro per family of four. Why it is so expensive is a reason for losing a star. There is also a coffee shop at the side I purchased 2 cappuccinos here and got little change of 10 euro! They were not nice if you cannot make cappuccinos then just make a Caffè Americano and Ill add my own milk. Second reason for losing a star. All in all its just very expensive and quite small which is such a shame because its beautiful area with amazing history.
The gardens are a pleasure to walk around. The children loved the fairy trail. Staff in the coffee shop were very friendly and helpful. Overall a very pleasant day out.
Beautiful park with fairy route for the kids and a pond when you can get gold, if you’re skilled enough. I was not.. but great fun. Great access to wildlife and beautiful scenery.
Gardens themselves were a bit disappointing. They were nice in a rustic way and have potential but need work. They were more like a Park than Gardens, they need alot more planting. Also the real walled garden cannot be accessed and have cattle grazing in there. Alot more could be done with regard to the Tower House (where St Oliver Plunkett was bornand Church ruins. The Lough Cairn walk was very disappointing and need a lot of work to bring it up to standard. The Gardens and walk could do with picnic areas to enhance them. The Coffee Shop is excellent though and staff very pleasant.
Fabulous estate and gardens beautifully maintained with lovely manicured gardens and flowers beds.Fantastic history and contains ruins of St .Oliver Plunkett Church. This was his birthplace. Well worth a visit.Oh did I mention the lovely cafe also on site.Enjoy.
Great coffee, lovely food. Super service! Our kids love the playground and walking around the gardens.
The fairy trail was fantastic, our 4 and 2.5yo loved it. The gardens are very well maintained and have sculptures around the different areas depicting characters and scenes from Alice in Wonderland. The white rabbit going down the whole was specificly nice. The cafe was a bit expensive for the cakes but they were worth every €! There was also 2 beautiful cats, one stayed about the cafe/playpark area and the other was roaming the gardens. He was very friendly and at one point was sitting on my teens knee!
Lovely place to visit sculpture and fairy trail amazing for little ones.. coffee shop ok, cakes a bit pricey.. overall a nice place, but not worth paying €16 ..(1adult, 2 children).unfortunately I will not be returning.
Would have been five but didnt have any Vegan cake - lovely staff and lovely coffee though
Truly special gardens. The kids loved it. Lots of imagination and innovation. Good value. Lovely way to spend time. Well go back.
Gorgeous afternoon spent with my Grandaughter and family here today after her 1st Holy Communion. Natasha looked after us so well. Beautiful sandwiches and desserts and a lovely safe space for the children to play. The glorious sunshine was an added bonus. ☺
A nice interesting place to visit . Nice enough coffee shop if not a tad pricey but it is what it is and there are more expensive options . But if you have small kids its a treat . An involving garden experience for both young and old alike . The setting is ideal as this part of Meath holds plenty of surprises if you like ancient Irish history.Set in the middle of rolling hills and local forests. Lough Crew megalithic tombs only a few kms away . Its a nice place to go for a coffee after a walk in the excellent Mullaghmeen forest all but 15 mins away by car . Recommended.
The Gardens are Beautiful and Peaceful and well laid out. I would say the entrance price is a little expensive at €7 per adult, but in saying that it is great value. The Coffee Shop prices are very high and cakes overpriced. I would recommend taking a picnic on your visit as there are numerous places to sit and enjoy the scenery. The seating in the cafe garden could do with an upgrade and perhaps some more toys for the children to amuse themselves with.
This was an amazing experience beautiful venue and lovely people
Absolutely gorgeous. The grounds are well-kept and the fairy trail for the kids is great for keeping them busy.. I loved all the recycled sculptures. The little forest walk to nice aswell. Good place to vist and have a lovely walk around the grounds. Car park is big so plenty of room. There a cafe on site. Its selling food and hot drinks.
Lovely gardens and a great place to walk! Lots of green area for a picnic and areas to sit back relax and enjoy all the scenery around you!
Beautiful place, we done an Easter hunt there with the kids, they had a blast
We just went to the café area. But the options there are great. The sambos, the cafes. Our food was delicious and the area to seat is great too. I highly recommend a stop there. I think the gardens must be a good options for kids. Im posting some photos with all the fairy things they seek in the shop. Theres a free playground area too. The gardens area is paid.
Been twice, loved the beautiful scenic walks, the flowers and landscaped gardens, the church ruins, all make a wonderful experience. Haven’t been since 2018, but looking forward to visiting again soon.
we were there in time when was fairy tales style there...everything was amazing...the trees was with small symbols...small faces, smiles, decorations..
Great Cafe! The chicken pesto with mozzarella on toast was excellent!
Nice place for a walk. Quiet in winter.Sort of 3 walks available.1)The gardens and church is a short stroll with interesting ornaments and flowers2the forest walk. A circumference of the gardens with some forest2creve Lough walk. About 6There and back. Open countryside walk through farmland and copse forest. Very tranquil views of rolling countryside and smallish lake.
Absolutely amazing Alice in Wonderland Christmas lights installation. Great park and very good coffee shop.
Alice at Loughcrew was, for 9 of us a family treat outdoors & in the dark which made it extra interesting. Its hard to describe so the photos do that job. The walk around lasted about an hour. The atmosphere of lights, dark & installations was exciting for kids & adults alike & was worth the distance to travel there. A little on the expensive side but then it took a lot of work to design & put together. Well done Loughcrew Estate
Wow and wow these people have recycling ♻️100%....its a brilliant experience ..went to see Alice in wonderland and its well worth the ticket price ...lovely cafe with great hot chocolate and treats ..all of the props used were recycled materials just brilliantly done..cant praise loughcrew crew enough 🙌cant wait to see what they do next year...just book and go !!!!!!
Great experience at the Alice in Wonderland lights show at Loughcrew Estate, coffee show. My 3 kids really enjoyed it and well worth the visit. Great value for money too. Staff very friendly and hot crepe and mulled wine on sale after make for a nice festive treat
Lovely gardens. We were there for the first lights show. A great way to explore the gardens.
I just want to say, on behalf of myself and my mam, dad, sister, niece and nephew, that we had such a wonderful, enchanting experience at the light show on Saturday evening. We all dressed up in our winter woollies and it was so nice to walk around with our hot chocolates and admire the innovative displays. I was especially impressed with the giant teacups and the displays made with recycled plastic bottles. The kids (aged 6 and 2.5!!loved it and were SO excited, they loved finding the miniature displays within treasure chests, chests of drawers... they didnt miss a thing!! We had visited the gardens in the summer for the fairy trail and this is now one of our favourite places to be. We all had a lovely time and then headed to Cafferys pub in Oldcastle afterwards for a scrumptious dinner.Keep up the great work Loughcrew Team!! 😀😍😎
Nice, peaceful park of fairies. Had relaxing walk
This is a great day out for kids, with lots of things to explore and space to run around. The coffee shop was a bit overpriced but was nice all the same.
Nice garden but small €7 adult entry slightly overpriced
Beautiful place. Fairy trail was brilliant. Fabulous day out. Could do with a bit more kids activities but regardless would definitely go back.
The Lady working behind the counter in the coffee shop was a fantastic person with a great personality and attitude a blonde haired lady eastern european i think, the Gardens are an amazing sight and fantastic for kids with the fairy trails.its a must visit easily.
Loughcrew Estate & Gardens are full of history, beauty, fantasy, and atmosphere making the visit a magical experience. Loughcrew Gardens are a breathtaking spectacle from 17th and 19th century landscape and pleasure gardens. Take a walk through centuries of garden and landscape fantasy. The central area of approximately six acres includes a lime avenue, extensive lawns and terraces, a magnificent herbaceous border and physic border. Within the gardens stand a medieval motte and St. Oliver Plunkett’s family church and Tower House. If you would rather, there is also a longer lake walk around Lough Creeve. There is some beautiful scenery to be taken in along the way, as it goes right past Loughcrew House. With extra treats along the way as the walk itself takes in different forest and rockery walks and also has a fairy ring. This walk starts and finishes at the Limetree Coffee Shop.
Such a relaxing place! You can enjoy the fresh air and nature. Children, and not just them, can enjoy fairytale trails. I noticed the ants made by plastic bottles and the soldiers by not anymore used, gas cylinders. A spring that appear from the root of a tree and forms a wonderful lake.
Went to christmas lights terrible not worth the money 5mins and ur done waste of time and extortionate price for what your getting very very disappointed.Beautiful place to stroll around.Amazing statues and fairies hiding so keep an eye out. Cafe is trying to be more then it needs to be, nothing wrong with a good oul Ham Sambo.....Definitely worth a day trip.
We visited on a sunny day in early August and the place looked stunning. The gardens were in full bloom and the kids followed a fairy trail around. There are information points around the gardens with explanations of the history. Oliver Plunkett’s family church is an interesting place to explore. Don’t leave without seeing the waterfall which is hidden away. The coffee shop is very nice Covid19 compliant. Staff are friendly and helpful helpful.
Was here for Tough Mudder challenge race. Unreal surroundings, top class event. Spent 2.5 hour on a road to get there but it was worth. Everything was organised excellent. All obstacles were such a fun and effort to do. Dont miss it next year as this is only one weekend in a year.
The walk is steep and takes about 15/20 mins. It is well worth it though. We went on a beautiful clear day and the views are spectacular.
Superb place to visit. €20 euros for family pass into the gardens was a bit tasty at first but on reflection its worth the entrance fee. The fairy trail is a nice touch for the children of an age thatd appreciate that. Did get a chance to pop into cafe but theres an excuse to visit again. 5/5
Gorgeous place, beautiful gardens with lots for kids to explore, they loved it there. So much history and a lovely cafe with friendly staff. Well worth a visit
Interesting place with a lot of history.Whole family enjoyed walks in the gardens and the Fairy trail kept kids entertained. Also had good coffee and dessert afterwards and the staff was amazing. Will definitely visit in summer and have picnic.
Best day out ever!! Ziplining, wall climbing, ropes and witches ropes and archery, it was class!! Excellent value for money and the afternoon tea with home made cakes and scones was simply delicious. I highly recommend.
Excellent service and food. Cute little cafe. Had a quiche and two salads. The carrot cake was delicious.Had a flat tire and had to wait for service. The lady working was very understanding and told us to just sit back and relax. We were her only customer at the time but she spent time talking with us.Made the best of the situation.
Fabulous walled gardens about an hours drive from Dublin, went to see the Cairns first followed by a leisurely stroll around the estate. Nice peaceful day out and great for kids as they have a fairy trail signposted along the way.
A magical fairy walk for all ages. Fantastic attention to detail and very well preserved. The staff are so friendly and the cafe is lovely and quaint. For the more adventurous there is the huge zip line and adventure Park.A must visit for all ages.
The Limetree Coffee Shop is amazing - tasty food and very nice service. The gardens are great, especially for children who love fairies. Lots of fairy stuff! As we were there at the beginning of spring, not many flowers were there yet. Big grass areas. They have there adventure centre. Check the website for that. The zip lines looked cool.We did not visit the Estate (it’s close by though)
Such a great find. Travel along the Boyne Valley Drive and look out for the Loughcrew Cairns signs. You will find loughcrew on that road. It has a little of everything. Great open demesne. Art and sculptures placed around. Beautiful flowers, water features and hedges. Lots of info signs. Activities center for those more adventurous! Coffee shop is light and airy and the food fresh & healthy.
