Ballinastoe, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, Sandyford
A popular view destination for hikers, this scenic, privately owned lake is surrounded by mountains.
We saw this place as part of Djouch mountain trail view,In end of September, with black water and brown sand- it does look like pint of Guinness. We have a lovely time
One of the best lakes we have visited
Lovely place where you can find an amazing view.Free parking also!!!
No pug even on the leash allowed to enter.
Great point of view when leaving the road.
Could be a magical place if it was open for public. We tried to visit but couldn’t get even close to the location. There seems to be a new owner who strictly permitted every entry. There are „Do not enter“ signs up and even two security stations who keep you from entering. Very sad, but the security stuff is very nice and has Tipps for alternate routes and points of interest!
Absolutely stunning view 💓 wow!! Paradise on earth ❤️
Stunning sunset, gorgeous Irish landscape, totally recommend the visit. Specially during spring where fields are covered in a beautiful limestone green and flowers are awesome
Beautiful place, lake, scenery....if you are in Wicklow...a must place to see

It’s always spectacular view here, fall in love everything when I come back.
One of the Most beautiful places close to Dublin City, for landscape views, hiking, picnic and cycling.
Amazing place to visit. Lovely views , lake look stunning. Road to lake is very scenic too. Small car park so best time to go is off peak .
Stunning sunset, gorgeous Irish landscape, totally recommend the visit. Specially during spring where fields are covered in a beautiful limestone green. Be aware that winds are strong in this area.
Impressive! A must see
My best place!
Great sunsets
What a natural wonder! such a beautiful lake.Lough Tay, also known as Lake Guinness got its nickname because the color of the water resembles the color of Guinness beer and its shape is like a pint.
One of my favourites places in Wicklow Mountains (and brilliant for cycling). The lake is astonishing and Sally Gap close by is a truly unique place.
Amazing view. Great to go for a hike. Fun road trip.
Amazing spot just one hour away from Dublin city.
Lovely lake and surrounding scenery.Beautiful place. Also called Guinness lake. Actually looks a little bit like a glass of Guinness...Well in my photo I think it does.
How can a lake be private property ... the Irish people should take it back as its disgraceful that any one person owns such a beautiful part of the Republic of Ireland ☘️.
They also call it Guinness lake and it’s a private residence. One can only see from outside
Stunning location! Great views over this beautiful lake aka The Guinness Lake. There’s a lot of filming done in this area. Midges are an absolute killer at times. There’s a bit of car parking space at the side of the road and at the weekends there’s usually a van selling drinks and snacks.
Beautiful, relaxing with a quiet and beautiful view
Nice lake with the scenery from Vikings. You cant actually go down but you can see it from the road and its impressive, full of beautiful scenery.
Well worth a vist. Lovely spot
Absolutely superb place within an hour drive from Dublin. View from the top is amazing, sad that we cant get to the bottom as the road to the lake is private. Been here multiple times and always a pleasure to go again and enjoy the view. Parking available near the viewpoint.
On the way to Wicklow Mountains, we came across this beautiful view of the lake. It can be parked to catch this photo. Unfortunately, there is no approach to the lake because it is privately owned.
One of the most popular attractions Ireland, you can go to the lake. At the entrance, there is a small brother to record each group of phone numbers to prevent get lost. The lake is very beautiful. Cute lakes can be seen from the top of the side mountain. The landscape is very beautiful. This is also one of the lens of the Viking series.
Amazing views, thoroughly recommend going to see it.
Having lived very close by with my mother for many many years we both visited this place many times. I couldnt I wouldnt count the days that I passed by in the car gazing down on the beautiful lake but its many images and variations of color.Indeed I was only 11 years old when I first scaled the mountain besides the lake, I did so alone and at sunrise. I climbed to the summit of almost all the mountains around. But my biggest climb was the scale challenge I faced in the later years of my mothers life.Living close to this lake is something that is always felt, you sit beside your fire in the living room or at the table in the kitchen playing music always aware that this great lake is within walking distance to the soul.Sean T O Sallaigh
Spectacular spot to visit. Always takes my breath away 😃 Pictures dont even do it justice.

Fantastic windy spot amaizing view
One of my favorite spots in Ireland. Very relaxing
Amazing spot for walking around with all family very enjoy it.
One of the most beautiful places in IrelandReally love the place
Beautiful spot. Nice for a Sunday walk
Beautiful place. Catch this on a Sunny day and your in for a treat. Great hiking paths all over as well!
Absolutely beautiful. We stopped here on our way back from the sugar loaf for a picnic. Beats hauling the picnic basket up the sugar loaf. Its a beautiful spot. Small area no official parking spot you just pull in to a layby on the road. Its a nice. Apparently the guinness family imported the white sand to give the guinness effect.
Lovely spot, must see when visiting Wicklow especially if you’re a Vikings fan !
We ended up here while out for a drive, what a hidden gem. Such an amazing example of glacier movement. Well worth a visit. 💚👍
Beautiful view on a sunny day, a must see for "Vikings" series fans (Kattegat set around March)
Amazing view on sunny day ,good place for walking also for picnic .Need to see . Trip for family but not for small kid or small children in a pram.
The Guinness Lake (let’s me honest, no one remembers Lough Tay – official name); is a privately owned lake and one of the main attractions when visiting Wiclow mountains; it is absolutely stunning.
Beautiful spot to pull in and take in the beautiful Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains. There are two car parks with viewing spots, both offering slightly different views.
Love it so peacful and lifelike lake - you can see films being shot here
A must see Lough Tay looks like a pint of Guinness really nice place to see the mountains are stunning and the Fourthy Shades of Green Ah Ireland on a good day stunning enjoy
