Also known as "Old Boots," this bronze sculpture of shoes is a tribute to poet Luis Carlos Lopez.
Los Zapatos Viejos in Cartagena
Description
Visited this place to take pictures but waiting line was too long and the sun too hot.
MoreThe metal gets really hot to the touch so be careful when climbing in during the day. The street merchants can be very annoying as they are extremely persistent with trying to get folks to buy something. Bargain for everything. People are very hungry so they are very desperate to sell. The cost of living is ~500,000 pesos. The average job pays ~250,000 pesos. So they hustle to feed their families. Its hard out here economically for them but great for visitors as everything is sold cheap. But be aware, they are very annoying and persistent especially when they know the visitor is from the U.S. No, doesnt mean no to them, it means they still have a chance. We didnt want to be rude so we didnt disrespect but began to ignore them until they walked away. We also didnt make eye contact as thatvwas a clear sign to them that we were interested.
MoreNice
Amazing to take a Pictures; the son its hard there
One of the places to se in Cartagena. It is fun.
Super cool
one of the most beautiful monuments in the city, the sculpture of the old shoes is a place you have to visit, around there are small shops where you can buy handicrafts.
MoreLoved it great place for gifts
Really long line to just take a photo.
Is a safety place and extremely beautiful with the historic museums and cathedral and San Felipe
MoreGreat place to visit.
It was a stop on our party bus tour.
Good, but is not a big deal.
I am a professional tour guide in Colombia. My base is in Cartagena De Indias and I visit the monument to the old shoes with my tourists since it is a reference monument of our culture and history.
MoreIts meaning its beautiful however , there are some many pleople begging its disgusting. There should be more police presence. The street vendors make sure to guide the people to be respectful and form a line .
MoreAttractive place with a very nice view on the Fort. The only bad thing is that there are not many trees around and it is so hot out there! Not to miss when come to Cartagena.
MoreA regular city park near the fortress. A good place to rest your feet and to take a pic of the fortress.
MoreCool park with a shoe statue that people love to take photos of and a persistent drone of annoying vendors.
MoreA tourist attraction is a nice history, nothing special
Pretty art but if you want to take a picture you have to make a big line.
Nice to take a pic or 2 inside the shoes. Usually a line of people waiting around the afternoon 4:30 or 5.
MoreFriendly vendors, lovely park setting
Ok if you like to wait in line to have your picture taken with bronze boots while being pestered by salesmen.
MoreGreat environment coming from the traditional Chivas to get together and enjoy the evening
MorePretty nice and comfy place, close to the same Felipe castle, Iconic place to visit in Cartagena.
MoreThese shoes represent the spirit of Cartagena, Colombia. Old shoes could be mended, or thrown away, but they feel so good that you keep them. A must for a foto shoot. Show it to any Colombian and they know youunderstood the essence of this place.
MoreSapatos viejos is a beautiful place near of Ciudad Amurallada. Its good to take a pic
MoreNice picture spot but nothing else. Really sunny and normally crowned with tourists.
MoreMarket place is tourist attraction...very busy. Monument large boots....makes nice picture.
MoreGreat part of history unveiled. Unknown story until we took the "RUMBA DE LA CHIVA".
MoreTraditional place for pictures. If you didnt took a photo here, you werent in Cartagena
MoreNice place. Los Zapatos Viejos or as many know them "Las Botas Viejas" is in homage to the "Poet" Luis Carlos Lopez behind "El Castillo de San Felipe" in his native Cartagena, Colombia.
MoreSuch a nice place great photos y you como to Colombia you must take pictures in this shoes and other monuments that they have here
MoreGreat cultural piece. Our guide told us the history and recited the entire poem.
Good place close to the castle and shopping mall, Just for the photos... Is Normal monument
MoreIts a must but you cant take a picture without having someone else in the background and Id say its better to visit at sunset
MoreThey are for sure the biggest shoes you will ever see. You can get inside them and locals are nice enough to take your picture. Also at night the "Chivas rumberas" or party bus stop there and people dance, eat food and shop.
MoreExcellent you have to comePlease the foreign people dont trashed, I saw Gringos and Europeans do that.

MoreNice square in beautiful city of Cartagena
Los Zapatos Viejos. A tourist trap. One cant help being on guard. All locals seemed to be about nothing but figuring out how to get fleece the tourist.Awful place
MoreNice attraction to take a picture with.
The boots are good photo op with the exception of all of the vendors pandering around you. They swarm you as soon as they see you and theres a market close by. Its right beside/across from Castillo San Felipe Castle.
MoreAwesome place to take great pictures. Line ups can be long and people dont respect the line, you just have to get in or wait a while until the line disappears.
MoreIts behind the castle, otherwise dont bother. Quick photo op being inside the shoe. Vendors bug you and hog what little shade is in thet small area so no reason to stick around after.
MoreIts a great place to visit, its near to Castillo San Felipe".
Usually very crowded. Not many shaded places to sit around. Good for a five minute visit.
MoreBeautiful sculpture! Apart from the photo inside the shoe theres nothing special to do around.
MoreCool monument, but good luck getting a good photo with all the tourists
The shoes are OK, but since they are a very short walk away from the castle, you might just as well go there. The view of the shoes with the castle in the background is nice.
