Los Pinos Café - Dominican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Los Pinos Café in San Juan
Description
Privilege
My boyfriend and brother ate here at 6 in the morning. Night at the placita and drinking this place is perfect. But not for sober people I went for dinner the workers are a bit rachet. My waitress disappeared and never checked in on us . I ended up so sick i was in the bathroom all night mind you my flight back home was at 1 in the afternoon.
MoreAside from lunch specials be careful, overpriced mediocre quality and poor service. It used to be better.
MoreThis place has great Puerto Rican arroz con pollo frita (rice with chicken). It was delicious and in a nice part of San Juan.
MoreHorrible service please do not waste your time & money coming here. We just left the restaurant. Waitresses all they do is talk & ignore you when you ask for something…. Our waitress was absolutely horrible. Took for ever to come take our order & with a horrible attitude. Food is decent but you don’t eatComfortably with that type of service. We got to go boxes & left. We are here for vacation & I definitely was really upset, everywhere else we’ve gone we were treated amazing this place is a NO.
MoreHORRIBLE service. We got here and our waitress Angela didn’t come to our table for 10min. When she finally showed up she didn’t even apologize for the long wait. She took all of our orders, food didn’t come out for 40min and when it came out we thought one of our orders was just taking a little longer. Come to find out the waitress NEVER put that order in. We asked if it was going to be discounted or if anything will be done and the waitress was VERY incompetent about it and said absolutely not. The food will be out. We waited 5-10 more minutes and decided to ask for a manager. The manager NEVER CAME!! We asked for our check and the waitress was very rude and made us feel like she just wanted us to leave. NEVER coming here again!!! Don’t waste your time.
MoreThe food was a bit bland and the table smelled like seafood, mind you, we had not eaten seafood nor was anyone around us eating it. The server was disinterested in giving us her undivided attention with only a handful of people actually there. It does need some work in order for it to improve.
MoreVery good Puerto Rican food. I had the mofungo with shrimp. If asked why not 5 stars, simple. The service is not very good. I had to ask numerous times for someone to take my order.
MoreFood and drink was good. Ample parking in back. Service was great
Good food but long wait and not good communication. Good vegetarian options though
MoreIf I could give it a zero, I would. Horrible wait staff and management. Every single table around us got waited on before us and we were seated first. Had to walk out.
MoreThieves. Stay away.If I could give negative stars I would. Was here last night, just 2 people. The waitress assigned to us left us for 1 hour, no service. This was with constant asking for help. Finally a different waitress came to tell us our server doesnt speak English so didnt want to help us. She took out order and got us food. We were so hungry and it was middle of the night so we stayed. The old waitress brought us our check at end of meal. Pointed to tip. I clearly told her no tip. I woke up this morning and she had added $10 tip to my bill on my credit card. Complete thieves. Never again. Stay away. Btw, I gave cash tip to the waitress who actually helped us
MoreLiterally my favorite place to eat in PR, amazing service and the beans are soooo good. The tres leches is so amazing I loved it, will always be coming back here, went there four times on a six day trip
MoreHorrible service. They had 6 waitresses and they were chatting among each other instead of servicing tables, ignoring clients when called upon. We went at 9am for breakfast. The food took way too long and the restaurant was more than half empty. I dont even want to imagine how will the service be in a busy day. We order a pastrami sandwich that only had two thin small slices of pastrami. We decided to leave and not order anything else. The couple beside, which arrived before us, complained of the service as well, told us they took 45 min to serve scrambled eggs on top of the time they had served some other part of their order. The woman had to remind the waitress who didnt even follow up, that they still owed them those scrambled eggs. If I was the owner I would consider training those waitresses on client service and tell them to avoid chatting so much amongst themselves. To pay I had to stand up and go to them because I didnt want to wait what I thought would be a long time for them to do their job. I tipped them, not that they deserved it.
MoreI would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I went there fairly early on a Saturday morning (around 8am), just to relax and to enjoy sitting outside for a bit. Instead, I had to deal with exceptionally rude service and mediocre food.To give one instance: I was not greeted by the waitress. I asked the waitress how the pancakes and bacon was. She looked at me as if I was from Mars and said, "Yes, it is pancakes and bacon. What do you want?" And there was no chance of language difficulties, because I speak Spanish. The service just went downhill from there. Evidently at Pinos, the customer is the enemy.I do not think that it is too much to ask that the waitstaff be reasonably polite and friendly. My standards are low, but they could not even meet these low standards.Really, try to avoid this place, unless you are starving for food and literally have no place else to go.
MoreThe food is good and the service is fast. Open 24/7 and always has all the food on the menu. The prices are good as well. The staff are very alert of its customers. There is free parking available behind the business. So while in the Metro San Juan area you should stop by.
MoreGood 24 hour place to grab a quick bite. Always come for the breakfast which is good and at a good price.
MoreThe place does have a full menu and is very accommodating in the way you can order. Most people end up here because it is about the only decent place to eat on this side of the bridge (Puente Dos Hermanos, El Condadofor the locals without going to the tourists area. Getting a table might be 20 min wait, but so worth it. The beer selection is great, the wine is limited, but at 2 AM, why be so serious. Family place, yes, even there is even a something for the kids.
MoreBeen here multiple times. The food is great especially for a 24/7 location. Even eating it for left overs it’s good. Service is not the best when it’s busy at like late night at 4am.
MoreGreat people, super friendly service food was great! Churrasco was absolutely fantastic!!! The Orgasmo drink was always quite tasty!! The vibes were great and smiles were everywhere!!!
MoreVery satisfied with my food2 for 1 happy hour liquor was so string did not taste good they had to redo
MoreExcellent food and service, sometimes is tricky to pay because it seems their systems only accept swipe-type cards and no contactless chip (only place in PR where I got my card flagged as risky and declined by my bank). That’s why I’m rating it 4/5 because other that that the customer service is amazing, very kind and fun people, the food is local, simple but AMAZING, so greatly recommended. We went there 3 times in one week!
MoreExpensive - for Puerto Rico standards - and not super delicious.I had to try the local specialty but vegetarian style and they used clearly frozen vegetables to fill the entree. The sauce was good but the dish otherwise lacked dimension.Good service though and food prepared pretty quickly.
MoreDelicious food. Great ambiance. 5 min walk from the Lagoon at El Condado. Lovely. Outside seating was great I had my fur baby with me.
MoreWe are visiting this Island, searched for night food and found this place that we drove 40 minutes to get to. Walked in and was ignored. One server whisked by us and we hurriedly got his attention in aid of getting seated. We waited for 40 minutes before we were acknowledged after being seated only because I demanded attention. Initially we wanted to sit outdoors but was told tables seats 4 and there were 5 of us. Inside was freezing so I eventually told them we will make the seating work to accommodate the 5 of us. We finally got to place our orders and oh was the plating a mess! Each of us got what we didnt order, my soup was cold and came AFTER the serving of fried chicken wings with green plantains where the wings were fridge cold. I had to ask for them to be heated. After over an hour, we were finally correctly served. 1 person ordered fried snapper that chewed like rubber, 1 ordered BBQ wings that came out as fried wings and was told they could bring her some BBQ sauce on the side! After all the meal disasters the check came fully blown also containing what wasnt ordered for some person. No discount was offered nor complimentary servings. Food was not the best. Service was also frightening poor. 1 server tried his best to rectify the cold shoulder service we got from the 1st server. Ill never eat here again. Service is poor. Food is poor. Customer service was poor. Not a good experience for us as 1st time visitors.
MoreHorrible service, we waited 20 minutes to be served and the waiter went past us various times and when someone new sat down at the restaurant the waiter immediately went and served him. This was very disrespectful and we felt discriminated. I don’t recommend any tourist to come here.
MoreThe service was not great seems like everyone that came in after us was served before us. I think it was the waitress and she didnt check on us for refills or check on us at all. Food was OK but I think the service over shallowed the food.
MoreBogus like totally I go in with my cousin and I want a to-go order at 2 a.m. so I guess no one wanted to serve me and Im looking stupid for over 7 minutes at the counter while everyones looking at me and not a single well be with you shortly! I wouldnt have ate there anyway because Im sure after what I said my food wouldve been tainted and yes there is a problem with SKIN color also as another review posted so advise dont go if you have dark skin
MoreOrdered a mofongo with steak and unfortunately the steak was nearly raw and disgusting.Tasted the food and stopped eating immediately and still had slight food poisoning. I have no idea how this restaurant is allowed to be in business with its terrible service and bad food. Will never return.
MoreThe place was ok, cheap but you kind of get what you pay for. Service wasnt the best.
MoreGood food service can improve if she was keeping her eyes on the table
Sumptuous meals, lovely staff and great servings, highly recommend this place - we’ve eaten here twice and both times the food exceeded our expectations!!!
MoreWe love the food and we think because it was a Thursday night the service was not the greatest. We wait over 30 minutes for ours drink and the food was forget it another 40 minutes, few things was missing form our plate.
MoreFood was good. The attention to customer is really bad. We ask for water more than 5 times and not nothing. The waitress was not knowledgeable and was all over the place. We waited at the table at least 15 to 20 minutes before the came to ask us if we were ready to order...I will not return back again. Bad experience. Long wait no customer service
MoreThis place was packed when we got there. We waited about 10-15 mins. But it was super worth it. We got los pinos sampler and it was very tasty. The drinks are great, if you love sweet drinks I recommend the "orgasmo"
MoreOur server, Kia, kept touching her hair and wiping her nose and face. Not only is that disgusting and unsanitary, but the fact that another server’s excuse was that she has “allergies” is not an excuse. Food was worse than leftover fast food. We ordered at 3:45am, got our appetizers at 4:10am and the entrees weren’t even started. I do not recommend this establishment to anyone to dine in especially after hours. Slow service and hazardous food cross contamination.
MoreMaybe we came in on an off day, but we had a lackluster lunch here. Service was extremely slow, it took ~15 minutes for us to even see our server when we sat down. I ordered the mofongo stuffed with crab (I had to wait a little extra for it as the wrong dish was brought out for me). The mofongo was good but the crab stuffing was an odd kind of stew that didn’t taste much like anything. We had also ordered some garlic bread to start which never came, but we were still charged for it.
MoreOur order never arrived. It was never prepared. We waited one hour for 2 sandwiches and the cook never bothered to prepare them. Our server was embarrassed because the cook decided to put other orders placed AFTER ours before. Our waitress didn’t charge us for the coffee and boiled eggs. She even thought this was disrespectful towards us. Never come to this place. Awful customer service.
MoreI stayed at the Miramar and we decided to walk to eat and came here. We all ordered and no one enjoyed the food. There were whole uneaten plates of food left on the table. I did enjoy the coffee. Party of 5. No one ate! Went back…ordered coffee again! We noticed plates of uneaten food again on tables. Outside we spoke with another guest (Canadian and another set of Americanswho were also disappointed in the food. So it wasn’t just us. The Canadian told us it was horrible and we agreed!
MoreIt was worth your money and portions were huge. Otherwise service and food was just okay.
MoreGreat food. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because it took hours for you to get everything a hour to get your drink hour food hour for bill. Wasn’t busy or under staffed. Our waitress had to be new because our bill was wrong. Not a problem she fixed it. We were there for over 4 hours I really wasn’t trying to wait on a bill to be fixed . They are open 24 hours which is a plus. Would go back oh and you have to show a negative Covid test or vaccination card. I’ll go back if everything else is closed
MoreI found this place when I was forced to go elsewhere after waiting for 3 hours at Casita Miramar for food. This place was amazing!!! The Bisteak Mofongo was highly recommended and amazing!!! I ordered the coconut mojito, which is sweet from the coconut cream. The service was great! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, since I was a visitor, they had a waitress who was fluent in English. I would highly recommend to anyone.
MoreWent in with my family on a Thursday night. Had the mofongo with shrimp husband ordered carne frita with mangu. Everything was very good, freah and authentic. Service was great as well.
MoreOur flight got cancelled last night and we ended up staying at a nearby hotel. My sons 12th birthday is today so I walked over here to grab a flan for him. Carla assisted me and was absolutely fantastic. Slight language barrier but we triple checked the order and she even had a candle for me to put in the flan. I’m from Philadelphia and let me tell you that this establishment is well beyond friendly!!! Horrible night turned into a beautiful morning. The Cuban coffee here is fabuloso!!!
MoreThe service was great and the food was amazing. The barbecue wings were amazing. My cousin had the Chuleta Con Con which was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place for dinner.
MoreIn town on business with a coworker who had never been to PR before. The beer and glasses were cold, the grouper in garlic sauce was very good (although I wish they had a deep fried non-breaded option available). According to my partner the mofongo and flan were excellent. I was able to give him an accurate taste of the island. The service was also very good. I believe our waitress name was Carla, but Im not 100% on that. I could be wrong.I would recommend this place.
MoreYou know a place is good when random people keep recommending it. After the 2nd Uber driver in one day mentioned it, we went. It was full at 6:00 pm. Our waitress was wonderful and food arrived quickly. We tried a Mofongo de carrucho, rice, beans, avocado and shrimp. We also ordered beer and cocktails. The portions were generous. The seasoning was pleasantly criollo but not overwhelming, something our traveler stomachs appreciated. Los Pinos has a family atmosphere and everything is run efficiently without feeling frantic. One thing I regret is not having checked to see if they have valet parking, a necessity in this area.
MoreIt’s open 24 hours which was great because our flight landed very late at night. I ordered the steak with onion. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be just a beef patty instead of a steak. Overall it’s pretty good but everything was a little bit too salty for me. And the rice has bacon in it. Depending on how much you like bacon, it can be good or bad.
MoreDelicious plates. I had a traditional Dominican breakfast with mashed plantains, fried cheese, and two eggs. I also accompanied it with a “Morir Soñando” which tasted heavenly. I would not deter from coming back.
MoreThe food was so delicious. I had the garlic shrimp mofongo. The shrimps were big and fresh. The service was a bit slow. The restaurant was pretty empty and there were about 6 servers. Our first server kept making mistakes so she asked another service to switch with her. Thank goodness because the second server was way better and so nice.
MoreIm a vegetarian and they had the best arroz con vegetables Ive had. It was a great food experience. The wait staff was great too. And free valet parking also.
